- Spoiler: The Hebridean line of tartans is an offering of the Scottish tartan mill, House of Edgar. We at USA Kilts work very closely with them in fact. In this clip, Rocky explains how these variations came about and discusses the trend for naturalistic, toned down tartans including tweed tartans.
Hey here’s the interview Rocky did with House of Edgar:

Anything worth doing is worth overdoing. That being said, the Hebridean tartans sound like (and the examples you show seem to be) a very attractive alternative to muted or weathered tartans.
I have the MacLeod of Harris Hebridean as my first kilt. I love it, and I have received a number of wonderful comments on it. I didn't know the uniqueness behind the concept of the collection. Very cool with the information about marled yarn, so thank you!
WOOO NELLIE!! This take on the Loud McLeod is fantastic!! It rates up there with the Muted Buchannan for taking it in a whole new (and IMHO) better, more appealing color palate!
Thanks for this video. Didn't know about these tartans.
I really like the Hebridean. Another one for the wish list.
+USAKiltsOfficial *Thanks for the heads up on a marling process for wool.* Can ye sew a five-yard in salt-and-pepper Tweed check? Might be a to-consider for a Central Valley (CA, USA) summer, when highs post on or about 40°C.
My next kilt will be one of the Hebridean line. I love them.
I like the weathered, hunting, and muted tartans. Then found out only certain tartans for certain wool weights.
I think they look great!
I want to buy one of these tartans . let me know how i can . thanks
SL and Orlando
Marling is VERY popular in knitwear in general right now. I'm not surprised its showing up in tartan. Pleased actually.
I like them!
Register says 2005 for the Hebridian Heather. I like the marling.
I'd love to see that done with a muted line- a "field" (instead of hunting) variant of the military branch tartans. Not sure how it would work for other branches, but for Navy you'd probably replace the lighter blue with and olive, similar to the color of aviation greens of how FMF often uses USMC uniform components.
Anyway- marling - I also feel like a marled branch tartan would be able to tone it down as well with a darker muted contrast yarn
also, yes- I'm aware of the Polaris, which predates the Edzell by 2 decades- but no one outside of a few bubbleheads actually uses the (more attractive) Polaris.
Is it just me, or is Hebridine Ice basically Earth Rise for the rest of us who weren't able to get the real thing (or earthrise muted).
KILT AS IN DEED MONKEY...HOUSE O' WHIT,,A PROUD IN A KILT AS AN DEED..Aye!
