I loved this!!!! I had no clue that the MacClouds could only have small farms! Or that they also held land in the main land. I would like to know more about the cottars and farm servants, but unfortunaley theres no documentation. Thank you for sharing this!!!
The marriage connections are pretty well-documented, as things usually are when the upper echelon of society is involved. The question is one of "did they intermarry". The big question is if you are the descendant of any of these unions. I don't believe there is such a thing as "entitled" to wear any tartan. Most people prefer to wear a tartan that they have a personal connection to but there are no rules. I own one kilt where the connection is pretty indirect.
@thescottishclans ...thanks for your reply. My mother said many things. ..and I was never sure of the meaning behind any if them...but thanks for clearing that up...and so forthrightly 😂

A McKinsey from Texas here. 😊
My father was Walter Macleod Mackay.
Hi...my mother once told me that I was entitled to wear the Mackenzie-Macleod tartan. Could you confirm that these clans intermarried ?
