I have an ancestor listed as Mack or Mark Gregory, born in either Ireland or Pennsylvania in 1747. I was always concerned that he married a lady with a Scots last name. Most people married within their religion or culture at the time. Both he and is father-in-law fought in the American Revolution. I found out later about the ban of using the Mc/Mac in their name. They listed the different spellings that might appear for the MacGregors. So this information is very interesting for me. Thank you.

That might be a name some assumed when “MacGregor” was banned.
