How do you attach the PVC pipe to the canister? Is it with an adapter? My 3/4" white PVC pipe have to have an adapter to screw into the canister, right?
I didn't use the wrench actually, it was hand tightened, so I'm not sure how it got wedged in so tight. But you are correct hand tighten only to secure the housing.

Do not use the wrench to tighten…only hand tighten. Use the wrench only to remove canister.
