The inner split-ring is adhered to be flush with one side of the outer dial. When it is placed onto the key tube, there is a small area where the screws allow the dial to spin. You can't pull the dial until it is lined up with the opening.
The dials are not in line with the screws so they are like holes for it to escape and if you do it all right next to the screw then it will work better
Just wondering what speed did you use on your dremel? I have the 4000 and used the quick release cutting add ins and it seem to melt the pvc also what speed did you use for the sanding not at that step yet...
I finally broke down and made this one. I'm quite pleased with the result. Now the tricky part is to put it out into the wild and create a riddle for the solution.LOL
THE GEOCACHING DOC yea im thinking 3 inch PVC for the internal chamber with the pegs in it and in the video how did you know how to unlock it with unmarked dials
*sigh* one of the MANY MANY projects i want to do, but not enough time in the day... :( thanks for the video though.. if i ever get around to making one, it will come in very handy!
Annoying music playing, when you should be narrating/explaining how & why you're doing what you're doing...if you're going to just make a list of parts and pictures of how to put it together it could've been a simple PDF file.
LOL thanks for the feedback. The video was made over a long span of time and at that time had no way of laying narration over the video in post production. Thanks for watching though

Hola, los planos no se pueden visualizar. Podrías compartir los planos gracias. Excelente trabajo.
I've made them too. The more I make the easier they seem to get, and people have wanted to buy them from me. So it works pretty good for me!
Nicely done! We watched it from beginning to end, thanks for your work on this one!
Have you tried this using 1" and 1.25"? The 1" slides right into the 1.25" without any sanding. But I'm not sure if the fittings for these will work.

Home Depot bites here in Canada... but i did find at a local store! Thanks for the info! And the video!
What are the dimensions of the key and base tubes? Trying to build it but can't find them.
Where did you find the bushings? i can find everything else....
Where did you get the parts from. Especially the 1-1/2" x 3/4" SPIG x S bushing. Maybe if you can send me links.

I definitely could. I make/sell them on a as needed basis so I can customize them to your liking.
Great video!! We have all the materials and an awesome video guide thanks to you! :)
I just found one just like this one about a month ago. I wonder if they saw your video for the idea.
Please explain the spacing of the screw holes. The first one looks like it's a lot more than 5/8 inch from the end.
I'm referring to 6:07 in the video.
did you spray paint it in pieces then put it back together ??
lesley andrews bennett nope, all at once when it's connected. I do this to makes sure that the dials will still turn well.
Do you still sell these? If so where can we make the transaction?
how long does each piece of PVC have to be
Oh cool, how much do you sell them for?
I made one out of the same plans and is in place. Your's looks better constructed than mine :)

I've never found a cryptex but they look cool
I have found them at bothe Menards and Home Depot. Menards has a better selection and is cheaper!
I've actually thought about doing that. I would be more than willing to make one for you or anyone interested.
Could you make one for me? I can pay you.
Wow! That is cool! I don't have any power tools, so I don't think I can make one. Not to mention, I don't have enough time! :-)
Oh my that is a lot of work.
