Reasons Why Veterinarians are Useless without Vet Techs - Part 2

- Had to make another one!
Real talk: veterinarians are pretty useless without our technicians. Very similar to human doctors and nurses, from what the comments section has told me! Doctors are really just there for legal purposes, to have a name on the prescription, to schmooze people, and for brain power… most days! Love all of my technicians at work, and all of those that support and follow me!
as a veterinarian I totally concur. I lose my pen about 30 times a day, and a file or two. Thank God for staff that saves the day.
First step towards improvement is admitting it. Good for you
"Just go do doctor things, I'll figure it out, okay?"
IF I HAD A FUCKING DOLLAR....!!!!!
My shift lead utters this 20 times a day to our vet. It’s always the same vet
I used to be a vet tech. Things vets have said to me:
"Does April come before or after May?" (Dr. G really needed to stop picking up night shifts, she was not okay.)
"Where's my badge? I can't get the door open." (The badge was on his chest, however, that door was the door to the storeroom, which only our storeroom manager or night storeroom manager could open, with a physical key. This was clearly stated on a poster that hung on eye level on the door...a foot in front of his face.)
"Do you think we could fit a llama in Exam Room 12?" (This was sadly not a rhetorical question; a farmer had brought his llama, Judith, in to our clinic and that vet had told the receptionist to put them in Room 12, which was approximately 10 foot by 10 foot. The lead vet tech turned shades of red I've never seen before when she yelled at him for being an idiot.)
"How does this thing work again?" (In reference to our blood centrifuge. That she had used 4 times already that day.)
"Wow, you smell!" (I was covered head to toe in diarrhea, on my way to the emergency shower. Thanks, Captain Obvious)
"Does anyone smell something weird?" (The dog was covered in pepper spray. Our eyes were watering, we were coughing, and we were getting covered in the stuff. All 3 techs needed a change of clothes, it was so bad. Yes, we could certainly smell something weird; it was all we could smell for the rest of the day.)
I do not miss that job. Vets are the smartest dumbasses you'll ever meet.
I'm sorry to tell you this also extends to human doctors.... Yeah
@Dracossaint I'm sadly aware. I suspect it's because they had to make so much room in their brains during schooling that they ended up dumping out their common sense too.
@@mirih5368like pfft! common sense? i don't need that! Yes doc you do.... you really do.
They needed help operating a centrifuge? It isn't exactly rocket science.
@@janetmiller2980 I would rather trust any sort of doctor with rocket science than with lab equipment. 🤣🤣
As a healthcare worker, I can say human doctors are the same. I practically had to lead them by the hand, lol.
Came here to say the same thing. Medical Assistants and nurses are the real brains of the operation.
I work on the documentation end of healthcare. I have to email and call doctors constantly to either put in their documentation or fix something on the documentation (why is there no diagnosis!). I couldn't image being there physically, it feels like roping in a bunch of kids with rampant ADHD from my end alone.
And a medical lab technician I can say that this is true. Idiots can't tell the difference between a qualitative pregnancy test (to see if the woman was pregnant) versus a quantitative pregnancy test (to see how far along she was) and kept ordering the wrong one or accusing us that we did the wrong test.
Once worked with a vet that couldn’t set up a fecal test, but could do the most complicated surgery. It’s true, the advanced degree pushes out basic or simple info from the brain.
Vet Tech for almost 12 years now, pretty sure I've said most of these things to the Vet before! Also, you forget the all important, NEVER let a Vet trim nails! It will be a bloodbath and there may be toes missing by the end.
Truth!
Things I, a veteran vet tech, will never let a vet do again:
1. Tape an IV in. [cries in piles of sticky tape]
2. Trim nails. Just.... no.
3. Write anything in their own handwriting, ever. They are only allowed to sign things. I am over deciphering chicken scratch.
4. Go anywhere *near* an IV pump..... or lab equipment.... [war flashbacks]
5. Clip fur. No. Put the clippers *down* and go do doctor shit while I deal with this. You are not going to scare our clients with your clip hack job.
😂😂
So basically when us groomers are looking at nails that were done at the vet with raised eyebrows it was when the vet was trying to be helpful? 😅
@@jwolfe1209 Most likely. Don't even get me started on anal glands.
Pretty sure doctor has adhd, we recognise our own 😂
If I had worked for a Veterinarian like you, I might still be a tech. Ten years, zero appreciation, no living wage, no benefits.... I could go on. Thank you for showing technicians appreciation ♥️
Your brain only has so much space & advanced degrees push out common sense. 😂
My Dad has been a lab tech for decades. Completely different industry, but yeah....he put out so many fires....some of them ALMOST literal fires.
We ask my BIL that weekly if not daily. So smart, but also a wee little infant who is helpless without ppl keeping track of him when in reality he’s a 52 year old man with 4 degrees and a law license
Ah yes, the feeling when you walk into a room with an 80 lb dog growling in the corner and the vet (and owner) just look at you and wait. Or worse, an 8 lb cat 😂
Wish human doctors appreciated their staff or had a sense of humor. Love your videos
"How can you be so smart and so dumb at the same time!?!" WOW. I felt so called out by this comment.
ER vet here. This is all true. 😂
Former ER Vet Tech here. I concur! 😂
As a vet assistant, Tom is my spirit animal
a Different Booze bottle in each video... should we be worried?
THANK YOU for showing how it really is & being so pleasant about it!!!!😄 Unfortunately my experience with veterinarians wasn't that pleasant! High Intelligence does not mean they have common sense!!!😃 & I've also discovered people & animals (mainly pure bred dogs) can be extremely intelligent but extremely dumb at the same time..... Isn't nature fascinating!!!😄
You're funny! Most doctors would never have enough self-awareness or sense of humor about themselves to post something like this. It's refreshing! (NP here).
And this is why we need both kinds of people!
This works into my theory that human and veterinary medicine attracts the gifted ADHD kids, cause there's so much to learn, and continue to learn, you can't get bored- but also why a lot of them have yeeted the boring information after the exams or never took it in in the first place. Also hyper fixation on subjects that are totally obscure and uninteresting to many :P
Excuse you, I resemble that remark 😂
"Just go do doctor things!" Lmfao
This is incredibly accurate for human surgeons too. 🥰 I say that with love and slight frustration.
I do vet tech education now because I'm too old and busted to do medicine anymore. I tell all my students that if they want their jobs done effectively, efficiently, with minimal mess, to never let the DVMs do a single thing. I still remember the "helpful" vet who was trying to set up some fluids for me. I appreciated it. I really did. But 500mls of D5W on the floor later...
My sis is a vet tech, she dun take no crap from vets. It's not good cos that attitude is rubbing off on me and i work in corporate 😒
Not sure I see the problem
These made me chuckle as a former tech in a specialty hospital - as a nurse practitioner in hospital medicine, the dynamic is definitely different since we all work independently as we round on patients
I’m getting ready to start my Vet Assistant internship and these videos are just amping up my excitement!
It can be a fun job, but prepared for the emotional toll it will take on you, especially if you want to work at an ER Vet clinic. Take if from someone who knows.
@@mlmartin2922 I can’t imagine all the things you must see in an Emergency Center. I’m dreading that rotation, not gonna lie. I’m blessed with a great support system, but I know I’m going to see things there that will make me feel seething rage and absolute heartbreak. Do you have any advice for someone just starting out in the field? I will take every shred of information I can get! My goal is to work with wildlife doing rescue and rehab, but I know I have a lot to learn before I get there.
Married to a veterinary technician. I now regularly ask him what room the next triage is in.
You know now I understand why I get to talk to the vet tech when I call with a question for the vet. 😂 I'm serious, though.Warm wishes from Minnesota! ❤️❤️❤️
Thought I would fall off my chair laughing.
"Just lucky I guess" positively sent me. Are we not all Tom? 😂😂😂
Doc needs to share some of his whiskey with Tom
Vet Tech: "How are you so smart yet so dumb at the same time?"
Dr Bozelka: (*swinging arms in clueless veterinarian*) "Just lucky, I guess!! 😁😁😁
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have no words!
OSHA is afraid of Tom - LOL!
Try working with human doctors and highly qualified nurse managers. 😵💫😳😠🤪
So true, in so many fields. Scary 😮
Tom is a hero.😂😂😂
My mom is a vet tech qnd utterly loves your videos
You are hilarious! Thank you for the funny and informative videos :)
0:31 and with impeccable comic timing, YT decided to buffer after the question - legit had to check it wasn't a 'Vet.exe has crashed' meme
🤣
I felt the subcutaneous fluids struggle
Ahhhhhh helpless doctors who cannot function without the rest of us ~ spot on doctor (cough pain in my ass) 😂😂😂😂
If someone wants to become a Vet Tech and they only have their general education associates degree- what steps should they take to become a Vet tech?
From a Vet Tech… see if the state you live in has any specific Vet Tech programs. My state MN only has 2 left. That type of program, usually 2 years as well will include an internship and state board exams. If you pass you are then a certified/licensed vet tech. For me that means more money and marketability.
Some vets will have vet assistants that may train to be a tech but not do any other formal education.
I would recommend looking into school, and volunteering to help with any animal organization you can. Birds, reptiles, rabbits, anything to get more experience than just cats or dogs. My practice treats everything and there are only 2 of us who have any experience with all. We make 10 dollars more than our peers.
You will be able to find better job opportunities with a combination of experience and education.
Good luck!!
Thank you so much!
Also, stock up on Valium
@@Kate-f1n I just spoke with a friend who talked me out of it. She was a Vet tech since we were in high school and now is a stay at home mom.
I’ve met so many people that are highly intelligent but, lack any common sense or social skills.
So. True. 😂
🧡
AND VET ASSISTANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Neurodivergent side-eye 👀
Vets spec in Intelligence, not Wisdom.
Fortunately for everyone, the Techs have Wis and Con as their top stats 😂
Always makes me 😅
Real ADHD, I'll tell you what (I say as someone who has ADHD)
More evidence for my theory that doctors can't read
😂😂😂😂
😂🤣

When all else fails, talk shi+ about the women. Ha. Ha. Ha. *eye roll*
