Great video!!! There are the possibility of uploading videos with all tests SSMP?
great video...if you reduce pain with scapular assistance, what are some of your "go to" exercises/treatments?
Then the assistance will be the treatment perform reps with assisting scapula so pain will reduce
It is not the original SSMP as prescribed in the scale you just introduced its concept
Flexion pressing against therapist into adduction
Abduction pressing against therapist into adduction
Humeral head procedure (AP and PA):
- Pinching the top with your hand
- Applying PA or AP pressure
- Asking if they can lift into flexion
Hello! PTA student here. Great video and thanks for posting. My question to you guys is (from the example in your video)...if the client had pain relief with flexion as he presses in, do you essentially prescribe exercises that replicate that same exact movement??
Thanks!
Hi Mark, sorry for the delay. Yes you would prescribe an exercise that mirrored this using bands or other equipment
Not the way original SSMP is prescribed.

+Garry Dredge Thanks Garry, I will usually do some MWM in the session (thinking from a biopsychosocialaspect) to reduce the perceived threat in the patient and to get them moving. Essentially in the same way you have done the assistance test but for repeated reps.
I do often use some manual therapy as well depending on what I find but this is always combined with movement.
I will then also usually do some form of closed chain work e.g. serratus push ups or thread the needle etc. Blackburn T's and Y's could also be used depending on the presentation and on the SIN factor.
Hopefully that has given you some ideas although tough to give exact prescription without the patient in front of me
