    Hey Dave, All Freewell magnetic filters have been updated with an empty base ring right after our release & hearing user feedback i.e almost 2 years before.

      Magnetic Freewell are very nice filters. I have them on all of my lenses. I use them a lot in my hiking trips. But Freewell doesn't have a 49mm magnetic filter system. Unfortunately.

    Hello from Kyiv Ukraine. Very impressive. I already have many Freewell filters but I will say that Freewell also addressed that situtation by supplying a UV and a magnetic ring in each pack.

    I'll sometimes use UV filters over CPL if I'm at the beach. The ocean spray is some nasty grime to clean, so I'd rather let those take the hit so I can still use my CPL while those wait for cleaning. The initial clean is rather simple though, just smear Dawn soap all over the filter and wash it under running water, then clean again as normal. I've never had any scratches from the salt water.

    Thanks David. I own and use K&F filters and they are excellent optical quality, yet more affordable than some "celebrity photographer" branded ones. Cheers

    Dave - what about threading on a UV filter to the lens, then threading on the "base" ring - wouldn't you then have the advantages on keeping a UV filter attached and swapping a ND filter too?

    I know this video is 2y old but I just discovered it. If I have lenses that take 77mm filters, would using a step up ring to fit the 82mm K&F filter set help with vignetting from stacked filters compared to using the 77mm set? Great video btw!

      Maven filter is the way to go I suppose.
      They aren't cheap. But they seem to be the best one the market. No reviews I've watched so far pointed out any vignetting issue. From my research Kase filters falls in 2nd place. can't say anything about K&F filters though🤷.

    I bought the Freewell magnetic filters. Purchasers did not have to use the UV filter which you indicated in your video was a weakness because the filters came with a magnetic ring without the UV filter as well as a magnetic UV filter and you could choose which one you wanted to use.

    • @DaveMcKeegan
      @DaveMcKeegan  3 года назад

      I believe that must have been a change to the filters after it was released then, as I reviewed the system when it was first launched

    • @barbaraolk749
      @barbaraolk749 3 года назад

      @@DaveMcKeegan I think that the feedback the company received from photographers not wanted to use a UV filter because of the possible degradation of the quality of the picture probably caused the change and it was an easy fix.

    Nice video though would like clarification on the nature of the UV filter. The obvious use case (for me at least) is to have the base ring live on the lens, and have a magnetic UV filter attached to it most of the time, but it being attached magnetically, so it is quick and easy to remove and replace with one of the other filters when needed. Is this how it works on this system?
    However, from your video it appears that the UV filter is instead screwed into the lens in place of the base ring, and if you want to change it out for another filter (because you don't want the UV stacked under the other filters for image quality and vignetting reasons) you still have to unscrew the UV, then screw in the base ring, before being able to attach the ND or CPL. Is this the case? If so, it completely undermines the point of using the magnetic system (for me anyway) and you still have to screw and unscrew things in order to replace a UV filter (which would be in my lens almost permanently) with another filter.
    This was the exact same problem Freewell had and I remember commenting on it at the time in your freewell video.

    • @DaveMcKeegan
      @DaveMcKeegan  3 года назад

      The UV is optional, it can magnetise to the adapter ring or you can screw it directly onto the lens if you wish
      Judging by a few comments so far it seems that Freewell have now also adopted this setup with their system rather than the setup I originally reviewed

    • @Hrubicundus
      @Hrubicundus 3 года назад

      @@DaveMcKeegan thanks. So just to be clear, with this system it is actually possible to leave the base ring screwed in to the lens permanently, attach a UV to it magnetically, then quickly pull off the UV and replace it with the ND and/or CPL, all without unscrewing or screwing anything? And without having the ND/CPL stacked over the top of the UV?

    • @DaveMcKeegan
      @DaveMcKeegan  3 года назад +1

      Correct, you can leave the adaptor ring in place and then attach any combination of UV, CPL or ND you want

      So I just received mine. I was worried about the same thing. I feel the magnets are plenty strong for one filter at a time. You can add more and each one gets weaker, this is kindof obvious. With three on I don’t feel that they will fall off when shooting but o wouldn’t walk around with them hanging from my next strap bumping against my body. With just the magnetic ring and a filter, or magnetic ring and the cap, i don’t think there is any chance these fall off accidentally. I say go for it.

    In all fairness, Freewell comes with an EMPTY base ring this company did not solve that issue they basically adapted their idea.

    The annoying thing about the K&F magnetic range is that they don't have any ND16 or ND32 filters.
    I was also frustrated by the fact that all filters come with an adapter, or adapter+lens cover, and you can't buy the filters individually, therefore paying more than you need to. I messaged K&F about this and they advised I could have individual filters sent at £20 each + £10 shipping which is useful, however I need them next week and they advised it could take anywhere from 7 - 15 days for delivery
