    I have had their Variable 2-5 stop ND, and the magnetic element is a game changer. When you add the fact that their filters come with very little color distortion, and the reasonable price for their product, I don't know why everyone doesn't go this route. I will be getting this thing when it is released.

    2 things. 1. To everyone watching, filters are probably one of the most useful and best investments you can make in your film and photography journey. 2. Omg! That is such an amazing price for that system. If you don't have filters yet, and you can get this kit for under $350, then I would highly recommend you consider it. To give some context I spent roughly $500 on 4 Polar Pro filters.

    Ah I wanted to love these! Bought the 7-in-1 set about a month ago to film my surprise proposal to my lady during a backpacking trip in the Red River Gorge. They are of great quality, and the image quality looked great out of my a7r iv. But, I ended up returning them. I loved the magnets, but also hated them. For my use case, my camera typically lives on my Peak Design Capture Clip during our hiking adventures. I had numerous issues with the lens cap, or lens cap + ND filter, falling off the lens during the hike. It seemed like the slightest brushing up against my body would knock them right off. I also had the issue when I'd go to remove the magnetic lens cap, the ND filter would pop off with it, so I'd have to realign almost every time (would fix if you used two hands to remove the cap... But I shouldn't have to use both hands to remove a lens cap).

      Same situation here. Last november I bought the 2 VND's + pro mist however the flaring is irritating at times + CPL doesn't work with VND but only fixed ND. Another reviewer claimed that flaring is non existent here so not sure if 400 USD (which is way more expensive with eastern european currency, haha) is worth the price just because the lack of flaring and the separate ND32. Dunna didn't even mentioned about flaring, hmm. Maybe when I decide to get a second camera body :D

    The Freewell magnetic system looks wonderful! But is the 6-9 stop variable ND the same, optically, as the 16-9 variable ND you reviewed against the PolarPros? Because I was surprised at how inconsistent the look of the Freewell 6-9 looked compared to the 2-5, whereas the PolarPros had a much more consistent look between the two filters.

  • @ExploringWorldYouTube

    Is there a way to use the new CPL with older freewell Hard stop: ND64 / ND1000 filters? OR could you use the new Freewell CPL and stack the 6-9 VND if you want to cut down on glare but want the extra stops?

  • @joshpetermann

    Another question, on my Freewell 2-5 stop ND, I find it doesn't have enough resistance to avoid "slipping" (turning) on its own when not wanted. Curious about how "rigid" the turn is on this new system?

    Interestingly, it's very doubtful (for me) to ever use the 'mist' filters, and I already have a CPL, so the others definitely have caught my attention! My question would be, I've seen a few videos where someone used a 10 stop ND and added another 6 stop on top of it, so is that possible using this filter system? Not that I would be caught in that circumstance, but with the different numbering on these filters, I'm unsure if that's possible in stacking them? I do like the idea of variable...as I do have one, but it's a screw in, and often (as mentioned) can be time consuming, putting on...taking off, changing and going with a different filter again. Great video, thanks!

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  3 года назад +1

      Honestly, quality wise, this is exactly the top notch stuff that we’ve come to see from freewell. I’m pretty sure all the glass is probably the same stuff they’re using in their other filters too (that’s my assumption anyway).

    • @xxxjmgxxx
      @xxxjmgxxx 3 года назад +1

      @@dunnadidit
      The only thing I'm thinking about is the more "DIY" approach when it comes to multi-glass components.
      Basically the screw-on ND filters for example, were a single unit built from two pieces of glass, whereas the new system separates these pieces and allows you to LEGO your filter from separate pieces.
      I can't help but wonder about the precision level of such a system in comparison to the "native" one (for example - aligning the inner filter to fit for the specific mark on the filter). I know this is quite hair-splitting pixel peeping approach, but when you look for best-of-breed glass, these small details start to matter.
      Would be interesting to see a head-to-head comparison down the road, especially glare and cross-pattern vignietting wise.
      Thanks for the details once again! Really appreciate it :)))

    I watched the video of the Freewell Variable mist and this video. Is the base nd/mist a 1/8 or a 1/4 in this new system? I'm assuming 1/8 diffusion as it's less intense. I'm assuming that these new Base Mist with VNDs are more consistent in it's diffusion as well since the base will be the same for both VNDs. Thoughts?

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  3 года назад

      I haven’t run into the issue of them falling off accidentally except if I pack my bag too tight, ill pull the camera out and the filter will stay sometimes if it got pinched in there. They’re really well fitted so they kind of “latch” in a bit which makes them feel more secure. I’m sure you could shake it hard enough or bump it hard enough to make it fall but it hasn’t happened to me in my regular use.

      Late to the game, but I did run into some issues with the filters falling off, or sometimes just the lens cap. If you aren't hiking with them, they are an excellent buy

      You’ll need step up rings for the other lenses. I personally actually like the freewell step ups because they’re thin and they’re also magnetic for the normal freewell filters. But any step up will work to fit the new base ring.
