  • The doctrine of the Trinity is one of the most significant differences between the Mormon faith and Christianity. Many Latter-day Saints are quick to point out that the word “Trinity” is not found anywhere in the Bible, and that the Trinity is a doctrine that was invented by men shortly after the writing of the New Testament. But is that claim true? Was the Trinity really invented by the early Christian church?
The doctrine of Trinity can be summarized in these three points:
    1) There is only one God.
    2) The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God.
    3) The Father is NOT the Son, the Son is NOT the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is NOT the Father.
This video explains the Biblical basis for three points that form the doctrine of the Trinity. Christians are not trying to invent a new doctrine, but are simply receiving what God has revealed about Himself. These three points, revealed in Scripture, serve as guardrails that keep us from thinking wrongly about God.

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. So much of what he said is exactly what we believe. Heavenly Father is God, Jesus is God let me repeat that we absolutely believe Jesus is Divine He was Jehova before He was a mortal. He was who spoke with Moses through the burning bush. The Holy Ghost is God. They aren't the same being. I remember the author of this video saying they were different. Yet other Christians have explained this differently to me. Jehova told Moses that there was only One God. Yes this is in fact in The Bible. At this time Israelites were very prone worshipping idols and false gods. They didn't understand the nature of the God head and so Jehovah simplified this for them and fed them milk because they weren't ready for meat. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints believe all 3 beings are perfectly in unison on carrying forth the plan of Heavenly Father to bring about the immortality and eternal life of man. Because they are in perfect unison it really is like in many ways like they are "one." Jesus taught us some of this doctrine when He said He was here to do the will of the Father. Jehova being created before any of our existence was with the Father in the "beginning " just as John says.

The Trinity made perfect sense to me once I took the time to understand all the doctrines regarding the Father Son and Holy Spirit. I learned it takes time to understand the full doctrine.
Because many people are unaware of this that leads them to think that only reading a few verses will prove the doctrine. It isn't that shallow of a doctrine, it is extremely deep. The concept is simple, but is also as deep as God Himself.

There are SO MANY scriptures that prove that God the Father and his son Jesus Christ are two completely separate people.
    Psalms 110:1
    Hebrews 1:3
    John 8:17-18
    Acts 7:55-56
    John 17:6-23
    Matthew 3:13-17
    The trinity teaches that...
    - God asked himself to go to earth to save mankind.
    - Then he agreed with himself and volunteered himself to offer himself as a sacrifice for sin.
    - Then God impregnated a woman as himself so she could bring himself into the world.
    - God prayed to himself and glorified himself repeatedly.
    - God introduced himself as himself and said I am well pleased with himself
    - God strengthened himself and talked to himself.
    - Finally God forsook himself and sacrificed himself to prove his loyalty to himself.
    - While dead he resurrected himself so he could exalt himself above himself.
    - Then he sat at his own right hand and waited until he placed his enemies as a footstool.
    - Finally with Satan's forces defeated, God would turn his kingdom over to himself...that all things would become everything to himself."
The 3 in one God theory of the trinity is a ridiculous doctrine.

Love your videos, currently witnessing to 4 mormons at the same time. Its been interesting and fun :) the mormon church has changed it doctrines so many times that it seems they are confused.
I asked them do they believe God is eternal. No beginning or end. And they said yes. So I brought uo their own scriptures and writings that point to other gods then they started to fumble saying well we don't know who his god is.
And pointing to those same scriptures, they were like the bible was corrupted. So I am going to have them "prove" that. They are 19 year olds but seem very interested even when I confronted with tough questions for them. Praying God helps them

      Hi Chandler!
We're not trying to be deceptive or inaccurate! I understand that Latter-day Saints believe that Jesus is Jehovah-but could you affirm this statement: "Jesus is the only one true, eternal, unchanging God"? My understanding is that you see Jesus as *a* God, but not *the* God.

I really don't think we disagree about the things stated in this video (except, you are misinterpreting some ancient near eastern literary devices, but that's minor); There is one God or godhead. God is composed of 3 different persons with their own functions. As Latter-day Saints, we recognize that these aspects of the trinity are true. However, there are aspects of trinitarianism that we do not affirm, but those specific aspects were not brought up in this video. If they were, the claim that the doctrine of trinitarianism, specifically, is taught in the bible would be untenable.

    • @chandlerparkin9225

We disagree with statements such as "the substance cannot be divide," and whether God is material or immaterial. The aspects mentioned in the video above, are not points of controversy between Latter-day Saints and Creedal Christians, which is why I insinuated that you were arguing with a straw man.

    • @GLM
      @GLM  4 года назад +4

From my experience, most Latter-day Saints would reject the notion that there is only ONE God.
LDS teaching holds that Jesus is the spirit-offspring of Heavenly Father. Though they are "united in purpose" in LDS doctrine, that still means that the Son is a distinct "being" from the Father. Though the Son is now exalted to godhood, there seems to be a dramatic difference between the Biblical position that "the Word was with God, and the Word was God" and the LDS teaching that the Son is distinct in nature from the Father.

In 2 Peter 1:1 in the KJV it says not "Our God and Savior Jesus Christ" but rather "God and our Saviour Jesus Christ." To me this is a big difference. It isn't necessarily saying that they are the same and that Christ is being called God there, but rather that there is God and there is Jesus Christ. (Same scenario with Titus 2:13). Also, John 8:24 doesn't say that those who don't believe in Jesus as the "Creator God" will die in their sins. It doesn't say anything about the "Creator God". Even reading verses surrounding that one I don't see the word "creator". I also took note that in John 20, yes, Thomas calls Jesus his Lord and his God, but Jesus Himself in that chapter also said to Mary in the garden that He was "not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God." To me that says that Jesus says His father is God. In Romans 9:5, it says "...and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed forever." This doesn't say that Jesus is "God over all", although I could see how it can be interpreted that way as it is similar and slightly confusing, but the wording is different. Matthew 4 to me doesn't imply that Jesus is saying He himself is God, but that He again is saying to worship His Father: God. In Matthew 14, it does say His disciples worshipped Jesus, but they say, "Of a truth, thou art the SON of God", not "Thou art GOD." It doesn't say whether or not Jesus APPROVED of their worship of Him - it simply slips ahead in the narrative. Hebrews 1 is kind of confusing. Acts 5 says basically the same thing in KJV as it does in the video, but it does have the change of Holy Ghost vs Holy Spirit (same with Matt. 28). This is one of those things I am figuring out if they are one in the same or if they are different. Also a question in my mind has been LORD vs GOD vs LORD GOD, etc (example in 2 Cor. 3)
Just pointing that out, as well as it may be useful to have different "versions" of the Bible, but it can make a difference in how doctrine is understood, or even what doctrine is.
With the illustration of the 3, are you saying that they are all carrying the title of "God" kind of like how there may be more than one person with a specific title (ie like saying (sorry, not a very good example, but:) "Senator Smith" and "Senator Jones"? They are both "Senator" but different people? or something totally different? Is it more like in marriage the couple is two persons who "become one"? or like in a family everyone bears the same surname? So there might be Tommy Jones and Johnny Jones and Jane Jones? If I am way off of what you are trying to say, can you give me a "parable", so to speak, that I can understand better what you are saying? Thanks!) I am trying to wrap my head around your illustration and points.

      1. The reason the KJV renders these passages differently than every modern Bible translation is because in 1778 a man by the name of Granville Sharpe discovered a grammatical rule in Greek that shows us that Peter and Paul are calling Jesus God. Since the KJV was translated in 1611 the translators were just ignorant of this rule and couldn't render it correctly.
      2. "Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
John 8:24. Jesus is calling back to Exodus 3:14 "And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” so Jesus is claiming to be the eternal creator God.
      3. Your objection to John 20 doesn't really work. Because Jesus is truly God and truly man. So he can call the Father his God because of his humanity, and he can be called God because of his God nature. This passage only makes sense if the Trinity is true.
      4. Romans 9:5 needs to be look at closely here. If you follow the flow of the text Paul is clearly talking about Jesus as God. To read it an other way is to break the flow of the passage.
      5. Matthew 14:33 and Luke 24:52 both have the disciples worshiping Jesus. This would be wrong to do if Jesus isn't God. "Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things. Then he said to me, “See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”
Revelation 22:8‭-‬9. Note how quickly the Angel rebukes John for worshiping him and not God. If it was wrong to worship Jesus, the disciples would have been rebuked by him. It's not because he is God.
      6. Hebrews 1 is pretty clear the Father affirms that Jesus is God.
      7. Holy Spirit and Ghost mean the same thing ghost just carries baggage.
      8. LORD in the old testament is God's name Yahweh. So LORD God = Yahweh God.
      9. There aren't different versions of the Bible. There are different translations. I encourage you to read through Galatians for example. One through with the KJV, then the ESV, and then the NIV. You'll see that while they use different words they say the same thing.
      10. The problem is that God is unlike anything in creation and so they're are no good analogies to use. So what we are saying is, there is only one true and eternal God. Yet within the one being of God there are three coequal and co-eternal persons. Namely the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Not that being and person are different.
I hope this helps and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

This is merely saying that they are the same God, which means they are of the same state and power, it does not and never in the Bible say that they are one being. Mormon 7:7 And he hath brought to pass the redemption of the world, whereby he that is found guiltless before him at the judgment day hath it given unto him to dwell in the presence of God in his kingdom, to sing ceaseless praises with the choirs above, unto the Father, and unto the Son, and unto the Holy Ghost, which are one God, in a state of happiness which hath no end. Hi Maryna!
Except the Bible DOES teach that the Father and the Son are one being!
John 1:1-2 - "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God."
      > Word = Jesus, who was WITH God, and who WAS God.
John 8:58 - "Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”"
      > Jesus claims to be THE God of the Old Testament, the same God who spoke with Moses out of the burning bush.
Only God is worthy of worship (Matthew 4:10), yet we see Jesus willfully receive worship (John 20:28).
Tons of stuff throughout the Bible that teaches this! Hope that's helpful!

Sorry, but that's not quite what we were saying in the video. We believe that there is only ONE God-and He consists of three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The REASON we believe this is because Scripture teaches the following:
      1) There only ever has been, and will be, ONE Creator God.
      2) The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God.
      3) The Father is NOT the Son, the Son is NOT the Spirit, and the Spirit is NOT the Father.
These three points are found all over Scripture, and are WHY we believe in the Trinity. So no, I have to reject the notion of "separate and distinct beings" that the LDS Church has taught. That is an unbiblical view of the nature of God, because God says that there is NO other God but Him. There is only ONE "being" who is eternal and unchanging.

Praise be to the Most High God! JESUS clearly tells us about His sonship and His God that He fearfully worshipped. According to the new testament, JESUS worshipped, and faithfully obeyed God Almighty - the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

HERE ARE THE MAIN SCRIPTURAL REASONS WHY JESUS IS NOT ALMIGHTY GOD AS BEING EXPRESSIVELY THOUGHT OF IN THE EXPRESSION OF THE TRINITY: “Jesus answered: “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel, Jehovah our God is one Jehovah,” Mark 12:29
    (1) LIKE EVERYTHING IN EXISTENCE JESUS WAS CREATED BY GOD AS THE BIBLE EXPLAINS CONCERNING JESUS IN RELATION TO GOD THE BIBLE SAYS OF JESUS THAT HE: “Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:” Colossians 1:15 KJV ONLY A CREATED BEING CAN BE CONSIDERED A CREATURE
    (2) UNLESS WE WANT TO CALL JESUS A LIAR HE FLAT OUT TELLS US THAT HE WAS CREATED UPON RETURNING TO HIS PRE-HUMAN HEAVENLY EXISTING PLACE: “To the angel of the congregation in La·o·di·ceʹa write: These are the things that the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God” Revelation 3:14
    (3) IT IS SAID OF JESUS THAT: “However, to all who did receive him, he gave authority to become God’s children, because they were exercising faith in his name.” John 1:12 HOWEVER FROM HIS OWN POSITION IN CREATION UPON HIS RETURN TO HEAVEN THOSE THAT WILL EVENTUALLY FOLLOW WOULD BECOME HIS BROTHERS: “For it was fitting that the one for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the Chief Agent of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 11 For both the one who is sanctifying and those who are being sanctified all stem from one, and for this reason he is not ashamed to call them brothers,” Hebrews 2:10,11
    (4) EMPHATICALLY HE EXPLAINS CONCERNING THOSE OF HIS BROTHERS WHO ARE STILL EVEN NOW REMAINING AT THIS TIME HERE ON EARTH WITH REGARDS TO HOW THEY ARE BEING TREATED BECAUSE OF THE WITNESS THEY HAVE BEEN COMMISSIONED TO RENDER TO ALL WHILE LOOKING FOR THOSE WHO WILL BE FAVORABLY DISPOSED: “In reply the King will say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’” Matthew 24:40
WITH THE CREATOR IT IS POSSIBLE FOR GOD TO HAVE SONS BUT VERY INCONCEIVABLE FOR HIM TO HAVE A BROTHER AS THAT WOULD MAKE THE BROTHER HIS EQUAL: “Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth, For I am God, and there is no one else.” Isaiah 45:22 NO WONDER THE MEANING OF THE NAME JESUS IS: [JEHOVAH IS SALVATION]
    (5) THEREFORE THE TRUTH CONCERNING THE UNIVERSAL FAMILY OF THE FATHER AND HIS SONS: “For the creation is waiting with eager expectation for the revealing of the sons of God.” Romans 8:19
    (6) ALL OF THIS LEAVES NO ROOM FOR THE SON WHO ALSO IS A WORSHIPERS OF GOD TO BE THOUGHT OF IN ANY RESPECTS TO BE WORTHY OF BEING EQUALITY WORSHIPED: “The one who conquers-I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God, and he will by no means go out from it anymore, and I will write upon him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the New Jerusalem that descends out of heaven from my God, and my own new name.” Revelation 3:12
    (7) THEREFORE IT IS EASY TO SEE CLEARLY THAT SINCE JESUS IS A CREATION OF GOD THIS ALSO MAKES HIM A WORSHIPER OF GOD BY RECOGNIZING THAT HE HIMSELF HAVE A GOD WHO IS WORTHY OF HIS PRAYERFUL WORSHIP: “Jesus said to her: “Stop clinging to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.’” John 20:17
    (8) THE FIRST CENTRY FOLLOWERS OF JESUS KNEW WELL THE AUTHORITY OF HEADSHIP AS IT WAS PUT IN WRITING: “But I want you to know that the head of every man is the Christ; in turn, the head of a woman is the man; in turn, the head of the Christ is God.” 1 Corinthians 11:3
    (9) AFTER THE LIE HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE MINDS OF ALL HUMANS CONCERNING OUR CREATOR WE ARE TOLD: “Next, the end, when he hands over the Kingdom to his God and Father, when he has brought to nothing all government and all authority and power.” 28 But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him, that God may be all things to everyone.” 1 Corinthians 15:24,28
    (10) THERE IS NEVER A NEED FOR GOD TO HAVE TO RECOGNIZE ANYONE ELSE AS HIS GOD THEREFORE THE TRINITY IS NOTHING MORE THEN WHAT IS BEING SAID BY PETER WHEN REFERRING TO HOW THE VAST MAJORITY WILL TREAT WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHERS: “Furthermore, consider the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote you according to the wisdom given him, 16 speaking about these things as he does in all his letters. However, some things in them are hard to understand, and these things the ignorant and unstable are twisting, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.” 2 Peter 3:15,16
    (11) THE VERY CREATION OF THE ONE WE CALL JESUS IS VIVIDLY DESCRIBED FOR US IN THE BOOK OF PROVERBS AT CHAPTER 8:22-36 AFTER READING THOSE VERSES COMPARE WHAT IS BEING TOLD TO YOU AT 1 CORINTHIANS 1:30,31 JUST IN CASE SOMEONE TRY AND TELL YOU THAT PROVERB 8 IS REFERRING TO WISDOM
IN THE FACE OF THE FOREGOING WITH THE ERRONEOUSNESS TEACHINGS THAT ARE UN-SCRIPTURALLY MAKING JESUS EQUAL TO GOD IN A GODHEAD OF THREE IN ONE ALL I CAN SAY IS ONLY THE DEVIL HAS THE POWER TO MAKE ANYONE PERVERT THE MEANING OF WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A FATHER AND WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A SON JUST AS WE ARE TOLD: “If, in fact, the good news we declare is veiled, it is veiled among those who are perishing, 4 among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through.”
    2 Corinthians 4:3,4
BEING THAT THE TRINITY DOCTRINE FAIL TO TEACH THE TRUTH ABOUT JESUS YOU ONLY NOW CAN IMAGIN HOW WRONG IT IS CONCERNING THE HOLY SPIRIT BEING A PERSON RATHER THAN AN INTRINSIC PART OF GOD’S OWN BEING
I CAN ONLY PRAYER IN JESUS NAME THAT SOME OF YOU WHO WILL OPEN YOUR BIBLES ALONG THE LINE THAT THE FOREGOING IS CLEARLY EXPLAINING WILL HAVE THE VEIL REMOVED FROM THEIR MINDS SO THAT YOU MAY HAVE YOUR VISION RESTORED WHILE THERE IS STILL TIME

Two Bible passages that refute the Trinity doctrine
    Acts 7:55-56
55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the fright hand of God,
56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.
    Jon 17'20-21
    20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

Jesus talks about the Holy Spirit as distinct from Himself. John 14:15-31 is a good section to look at for this: Jesus will ask the Father to send ANOTHER Helper/Advocate to be with His people forever. The FIRST Helper/Advocate was Jesus. This "OTHER" advocate is the Holy Spirit.
Jesus says that we will dwell in Him, and He in us (John 15:4-7). When Jesus said that, He was referring to a mutual indwelling...a union that we have with Christ. Believers in Jesus are bound spiritually to Him, so that we were crucified in Christ, and will be raised to new life in Christ (Galatians 2:20, Romans 6:1-10). In fact, every spiritual blessing that Christians get, we get because of this "Union with Christ", because we are made ONE with Jesus, and found "in Him" (Read Ephesians 1:3-14 about this idea...every single spiritual blessing possible, ALL Christians get because we are "in Christ"...It's really cool!!).
1 John explains that the Holy Spirit is an evidence of this mutual indwelling: "By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit." (1 John 4:13). The Holy Spirit seals those who hear the Word of God, and believe in it.
Ephesians says, "In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory." (Ephesians 1:13-14).
      Hope that helps!

I'm not here to argue points of doctrine, but I would like to make one thing clear; At the beginning of the video you suggested a distinct separation between us and Christianity. I am here to declare that we ARE Christians.
The name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
The full title of the Book of Mormon is "The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ"
    In it, it says
"And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins."
Jesus Christ is my everything. You don't have to believe anything we say but rest assured, we ARE Christians.

      Hi!
To clarify - We agree that Jesus wasn't talking to himself when He prayed to the Father! In the video, we try to clarify that Trinitarian theology does NOT think that the Father IS the Son. The Father is NOT the Son, the Son is NOT the Spirit, and the Spirit is NOT the Father.
What specific texts in the video did you find to be out-of-context? We try to be careful to not make the Bible say things it doesn't say by ripping verses out of context!

The language that Christians have developed over centuries to describe the nature of God: God is one being and three eternal and distinct persons. The persons of the Trinity interact with one another, demonstrating that they are indeed distinct.
It is mind-boggling! And we, as humans, are unable to completely understand HOW the Trinity works! Yet that doesn't mean we're unable to describe what the Bible teaches about God.
I don't think what we're saying is any more confusing than what the Bible says itself! John didn't exactly provide great clarity when he wrote: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God." (John 1:1-2).
Jesus (the Word) was with God, Jesus was God. Both WITH God, and BEING God. We don't know HOW that works, but we accept Scripture's teaching on it!
Check out on of our other videos explaining why the Trinity is so confusing (could be helpful!): ruclips.net/video/o2Wv6PWm1W0/видео.html

Furthermore there is an explanation of how the Father and the Son are one, you can read it in the intersesory prayer.

    • @GLM
      @GLM  4 года назад +1

      > "why can't God The Father have a Son that is like him but not Him, meaning not the same being."
      1. Because there only ever has been and will be ONE Creator God! If Jesus was a separate being, that would mean that there are TWO Gods, but Scripture plainly teaches that there is only one single eternal and unchanging Creator God.
      2. Because the Bible is teaching that the Father and Son are not ONLY "united in purpose", but even moreso - the Son IS God! Jesus even personally claimed to BE God when He said “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” (John 8:58).
Here's another video that could be helpful...it talks a little about the uniqueness and divinity of Jesus (how the Bible clearly teaches He is the ONE and ONLY God): ruclips.net/video/iuHw84KCCLE/видео.html
      > "In the beginning was the Word and the word was with God (The Father) and the word was God (The Son)."
The Word = The Son/Jesus (John 1:14 - "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.")
"In the beginning was [The Son/Jesus], and [The Son/Jesus] was with God, and [The Son/Jesus] was God." (John 1:1)
