    After watching all the reviews on RUclips, i still cannot believe that Panasonic did not send one to Griffin. That just doesn’t make any sense. I like PotatoJet, but he has no history with them to speak of; where-as Griffin has built an impressive career and catalog of work using the GH series of cameras. Overall, it’s still one of my fav cameras to shoot with given the video centric focus. Might be tempted to try them again.

      I appreciate you saying that, Richard! But I wouldn't read too much into it. Panasonic made me the face of their GH5 launch in 2017, sent me all over the world to teach the camera-also involved me heavily in the launch of the S1 and GH5M2. I'm very grateful for how much they've entrusted me with their equipment.
      Like some other commenters have mentioned, I'm not sure I have any need for 5.7k resolution. So it's understandable that Panasonic would reach out to a different set of filmmakers this time, who are a better match for the new functionality. (They've always been good at recognizing my strengths.)

      Panasonic have send this camera to people like Gerald Undone and Tony Northrop who are very sceptic at the future of m43. They send it also to many people who aren’t in the LUMIX ecosystem.

      @@angeloregina they obviously have more reach and figured even lukewarm reviews was worth the exposure. Northrup ended up doing a 180 and praised the gh6.

    Hi Griffin! I really hope you will make soon a video about the best setup for the GH6! Your videos on the settings of the GH4 and GH5 have helped me a lot! Thanks! All the best, C.

    Can’t believe you’ve not got a copy. I’ve seen reviews with exposure being absolutely scorched!

    I'm actually ordering this camera for the tilt screen implementation, I always wanted the s1H for the LCD tilt/flip, but it was a much heavier system to switch to, so I stayed with the GH5 until now, can't wait!

    Great video as always! My recommendation is that Griffin should buy a new GH6 try it out and do an actual hands-on review and then return the camera, or … better yet: call Panasonic and ask them to send one over for review. I think Griffin knows more then anyone about the features of these cameras in actual day to day use.

    I pre-ordered one for the higher quality 240 and now 300fps. I use 240 on the gh5s and eva1 often. I think it's usable, but barely... higher quality slomo is worth it to me by itself. Sounds like it is really nice, can't wait to see :)

      Ha ha, thank you! The GH5 launch in 2017 fit very nicely into my life-I was full-time freelancing, not yet a father, and living in NYC. Now I have a full-time job, parenting, and not in the city-so I probably wouldn't have had the bandwidth to produce an exciting GH6 film.

    Does it still have the focus transition and live cropping?

  • @oneeyedphotographer

    Canon has announced there will be no more EF lenses. If you're ok with that, the MB camera is a good option.
    I would prefer dual SDXC V90 cards. I'd have the choice of using apr if V60 or even V30 cards if I wanted. The more demanding modes would be accommodated by recording to SSD.
    Optionally, replaceable cartridges for the memory card, you want two CFExpress cards? Replace the cartridge, do it.
    Nick could record to memory card, you edit the live stream, perhaps for brevity, but also to incorporated his better quality vide.
    If uou want to stream games, please do it to a different channel.

    Rant coming
    Great as it is, I really think Panasonic dropped the ball on this one. Nothing extraordinary, and like Nick said: incremental changes.
    I feel like this camera is more of an ego thing. It does seem that all video record settings are covered by 10-bit, and there are a lot of 4:2:2 options as well, which is indeed impressive, but it seems they sacrificed fancy specs to boost their ego. This camera isn't aimed at their general audience, it's aimed a snobby people who wants to talk spec about their cameras, without actually ever really utilizing or needing anything out of the ordinary, making the choice to buy this camera fairly redundant (might as well go for a five to ten year old camera instead). No this camera has been "optimized" for photography only, and simply been improved slightly for video (with focus on all the wrong aspects).
    GH3 was 2012, +2 years = GH4, +3 years GH5 (with GH5s one year later, and now all of 5+ years have passed, and THIS is the upgrade!?
    GH4, GH5 and for that matter GH5s all had impressive improvements. GH6, not so much. I'm sort of hoping they will release a GH6s in a year (not in three years) with proper video improvements.
    So what would >I< love to have seen on this camera? Well:
    - Why not 960fps? Yea yea 10-bit is great, but I would love the option to do 960fps, even if it were 8-bit and at 720p (still HD). This does not at ALL seem like a stretch to me, this seems very possible to implement. I mean, if they can do 1080p at 300fps in 10-bit, surely they can do 960fps 720p 8-bit. 40 times slomo, now THAT Nick wouldn't be able to call incremental. But is it useful? For most people, no, but for some people, that alone would make this the ONLY camera for them. A proper all-around camera, which could ALSO do proper outstanding slomo, yes please. Suddenly, this camera would bud in on the slomo camera market. Now THAT would be the GH6's GH4 4k equivalence, or GH5's IBIS equivalence, or GH5s' low light equivalence. I mean come on!
    - Okay how about this; Panasonic isn't exactly known for great autofocus, the GH6 does see a great improvement here, buuut they are still years behind Sony and Canon. So I'm thinking, why not do the DJI trick: Include LiDAR focussing. Sure, this'll mainly be manual focus, but oh boy of boy would it not make this the BEAST of manual focus for consumer cameras, once again, including something that no-one else (anywhere near this price range) has. And sure, LiDAR isn't super compact, but I would totally settle for it to be an add-on that you could pop into the hot-shoe mount. I would happily pay 500dollars extra for a LiDAR attachment for this camera, maybe (definitely) even more. Sure, this won't silence the autofocus photographers, but videographers? Yes it would (somewhat anyway). Having a top-down superimposed view of your focus on screen would be a crazy addition to this camera, dare I even say; more pinnacle than the GH4 4k, GH5 IBIS, and GH5s low light capabilities.
    The GH6 seems to have upgraded most of the specs from the GH5, to 100% peak performance. Great. This IS a great camera, and in five years, this will still be an amazing camera... but we waited five years, and this is not worth a five year wait. Let me put it this way:
    When asked if Griffin would buy this camera, the response shouldn't be "Well I HAVE the cameras I need, so I don't think so", it should be "Well I HAVE the cameras I need, but,,, I feel I NEED the GH6, it can do SO many new things which will open up SO many new doors for me", alas, that was NOT the response THEIR AMBASSADOR Griffin gave, and THAT is the problem.
    I WANT to say that I would wait for the GH6s or GH7 for a proper new camera (not just an improved camera), but,,, if that wait is going to be 6 years, believe me, I will be the owner of a Sony by then. And to be completely honest, if no GH6s is announced fairly soon, that Sony may come sooner rather than later, as I have been putting off buying a new camera, to see what Panasonic would bring.
    Disappointment is what they brought.

    • @makatron
      @makatron 2 года назад

      Wow after reading your comment I couldn't agree more. When the a7s3 came out it sure was worth the wait. And even Nikon is doing great video AF with the Z9 now and in 8k without overheating issues, now that was a true upgrade from whatever nikon had in its lineup and I should now since I've been shooting nikon since 2007 and the d40. If there's power to process 4k/120fps then what's the excuse of just doing 1080p 300fps? Yeah I love using the GH5 and even the old trusty gh4 that now looks like it's been through a lot but still going strong. This sure doesn't look like 2,100 dollar camera to me, even if still looks like it'll make my life easier with the dynamic range boost modes and included vLog, but still kinda average compared with what's in the market right now.

  • @kevinpeer1295
    @kevinpeer1295 2 года назад

    Am I correct in interpreting from the above vid that if one is shooting video and does not have need for 5.7K, that the GH6 does not offer anything significant over the GH5M2? Not even a significant boost in dynamic range? How about a significant difference in the HDMI lag when using a monitor? The GH6 is $2197, while a like-new GH5M2 can be purchased for less than $1200, so nearly a $1000 difference there. For high-quality run-and-gun documentary work, is there a viable reason to choose the GH6 over the GH5M2?

      I think we’d be more likely to see the next S1H. The GH6 is likely the last we’ll see of MFT bodies for a bit.

    • @makatron
      @makatron 2 года назад

      Wouldn't count on it mate, even though I still think this will sell well but they're focused on full frame cameras now and after using the S1H I can tell you that's an amazing piece of gear, but m43 still has its place and I love it for when I want to shoot wide open without blurring everything in the background.

    What on gods green earth am I using 5.7k for?! I still shoot 1080p over 60 percent of the time lol. But this may make me move my gh4 bcam to a gh5 as this will drive prices down. My a cam is a 4k camcorder.

    • @GriffinHammond
      @GriffinHammond  2 года назад

      I agree that 1080 is about the max resolution most audiences can even discern. (On a projector, for example, the difference between 4K and 1080 is nearly imperceptible.) But for cropping in post, or special effects work, I can understand the desire for 5.7k. I probably wouldn't shoot 5.7k either-though I would use the 120 and 300fps video on the GH6.
