  • Why do the echoes of the past seem louder in the stillness of the night?
The quiet moments of night often serve as a stark reminder of the shadows we thought we had left behind. For survivors of pathological abuse, night can bring a resurgence of the fears, trauma, and pain that once dominated their lives.
Pathological abusers, such as narcissists, sociopaths, or psychopaths, use manipulation, deceit, and control to break down their victims, creating psychological scars that last long after the physical abuse has ended.
These scars often surface in the form of PTSD, where night terrors and memories become an inescapable part of their reality, keeping them bound to a past they desperately wish to escape.
I know this struggle all too well. For over 20 years, I lived under the control of a psychopath diagnosed with severe antisocial personality disorder, exhibiting extreme narcissism and Machiavellianism.
Even after escaping his grasp, the trauma persisted, manifesting in complex PTSD and a rare speech disorder that reminds me daily of the battles I’ve fought.
"In the Stillness of the Night" draws from these experiences, reflecting the terror that haunted me long after the abuse ended. My loyal dog Courtney was my beacon of hope during these dark times, giving me the strength to push through the fear and reclaim my life.
