- Welcome to the review of the Chilli Surfboards Sugar Twin Fin!
The Sugar I have been riding is a stock 5’6 x 20 ¾ x 2 7/16 @ 31.2 liters
I’ve been lucky enough to be surfing the Sugar right across summer and across a whole variety of conditions from 1 foot onshore slop, through to some pretty fun waves in the 4ft+ range, and the Sugar has performed across all these conditions.
Intrigued by the Sugar after seeing Lee Wilson from Bali surfing it and drawing some different lines you don’t normally see on a “Fish” I had to check it out.
The Sugar has the flow of a fish with its generous outline and nice distribution of foam, but the key thing that differentiates it from other fishes and adds to its performance is the fin setup. The Sugar has its fins set back slightly, and this allows you to ride an upright twin fin in the board, and while you can still surf it with a keel fin, I loved the way it would pivot off the upright twin fin.
I rode two different sets of fins in the Sugar which were both from Futures and they were the T1, and then when I wanted a bit more hold I went with the EN by Futures. If you are an FCS user then I think the MR and the Power Twin are the fin sets you’d be looking at.

Good video, except not a single paddle in or take off was shown. WOuld have been good to see how well/early a 95kg guy on a 5'6 can get into those kind of waves.
Sorry - didn’t even realise, as I actually try and include this as I think volume at times can be overrated.
One of the best reviews i seen about fish and fins, exactly what i needed.
Thank you from Europe.
Thanks - hope you enjoyed it!
hey mate how tall/heavy are you - sick reviews/shredding.
95KG he said
What did you like best between this, the Panda Rocket Fish, and Christenson? Looking for a retro-inspired fish that will go in small-6ft surf.
Another great review. Craig, which do you prefer, the fishbeard or the sugar ? I want to buy a twin fin surfboard. My other boards are, the holy grail, the neckbeard 2 and the untitled from HS. Thanks
Heya! Thats touch as I really liked both. Considering the other boards you have, I'd probably go the Sugar over the Fishbeard!
Wow you rip the sugar. Im getting one!
Hi mate ! 183cm 95kg the 6’0 is okay for a big Guy ? Thanks for your RUclips channel ⚡️🙆🏻♂️
Should be fine - I'm roughly 95kg's and I'm riding one much smaller than 6'0
can i using xhilli sugar with 2 fins be used for beginners ? Coz i like with a model and colour 🤗
Ordering a 5’8” now
🔥🔥🔥
Just got a board that is 5'4 x 21 x 2 7/16 . I'm really digging it and it has the same kind of outline as the sugar, a classic twin fish shape with single concave going to double at the tail. I like the classic fish outline, allows me to surf anything from 2 to 6 feet with a one board quiver solution.
Yes!
Hi Craig!! How would you compare the Sugar to de CI Fish?
4:09 it had more hold because the finbox is more placed in the back.
Great Video! Is the sugar similar to the „Gerry Lopez - Something fishy“? I‘ve rode this one in 5’10 and it was great. I‘m thinking about getting the Sugar in 5‘10 too, but I‘m not sure if the sugar is as easy to ride as the Gerry Lopez one.
Hey - this is different cause this is a twin fin and the GL is a quad.
Still easy to surf, and i think you'd like this if you like the GL!
Hey hey, quick question, I am 71kg and I have been riding a Rocket Wide. I would like to try some twin fins or 2+1. Which one do you suggest?
Wow! There's lots out there, so it's hard to single out one.
I really liked this Chilli Sugar here - have you checked one out?
What is your weight. I am about 195 and 5'10" and trying to find the right size for my self
808hkl808 hey! I’m 5’10 x 90kgs, I’m not sure what that is in pounds... maybe around 200?
I’d add around 2 liters above your shortboard volume 👌
Nice barrel! 2:10
Ferdinand Arcinue haha! I was so deep I didn’t know if I was going to come out! Haha!
Hi Craig! How does this board compare to the "go fish"?
I preferred the Sugar… ✌️
Nice video love that spray!
Yeah, i was frothing on the pink!
I am dropping twin fins in my back quad plugs
Interesting...
How did you get them to spray your board pink?
Hey! They actually had a few with colour in stock on the shelf, so I grabbed the pink one for something different!
Looking great on that board mate! This bad boy, black baron or fishbeard?
Hey mate! I think it'd be between this, and the Fishbeard. The Fishbeard you'll ride a bit longer/narrower - so if you like a longer rail line it would be good. Otherwise the Sugar is epic, and there isn't much it can't do!
The Surfboard Guide and the Black Baron?
great review...how this compares to DHD mini twin?
1982FM hey! I’d love to tell you, but I’ve never surfed the DHD twin or mini-twin, they look good though!
Nice review Craig! Looks like you kinda enjoyed the Panda Astro Zombie more? Astro Zombie seemed a bit for loose and maybe funner to ride? This one looks sick too! Snappy looking turns on the Sugar
They are both very different boards and the Astro Zombie was a lot more of a cruiser, where this was much more performance! I wouldn't say I had a favorite! I surfed this board a lot and absolutely loved it, but unfortunately we didn't get a lot of filming on it as I tore my meniscus and ACL...
how is it surfing with a torn/previously torn ACL?@@TheSurfboardGuide
cccccc54able it’s not much fun. I can surf ok with a brace, but don’t have a lot of power in my rear leg.
My ACL has a tear and I’m leaving it for now, but I’m having part of my meniscus removed as it’s torn and stuck in the knee joint.
Cool review! I'm thinking of getting one, I'm 6'1 x 78 KG. Would the 5'6/5'5 be okay? I normally ride boards around 5'9 never gone shorter, cheers!
Jonas Akyildiz you’re a lot taller and lighter than me so that’s a tricky one. You want a fish fairly short, so maybe go off volume and add around 2 liters onto your shortboard volume and see where that lands you. 👍
Cheers just ordered one, 31L can't wait to get the thing in the water. Tried a twinny in Morocco crazy experience. 6ft pumping point breaks just flying down the line enjoying the ride, totally different feeling than your hpsb ey.. CI Fever also was mental thanks for the reviews keep it up man!!
@@jonasakyildiz6494 I think at least one twinny is a must for every quiver... Maybe two!
Hi @@jonasakyildiz6494 how was the board for you? Im the same height and weight.. and btw the 56 or 58 with 33l... is perfect or could it has a little more foam?
Board looked great under your feet. Nice review!!
Mike H thanks!
Gotta do something about the echo in the audio for these videos... great content otherwise
Hey! This should be the only video with this problem. Arriving home after filming, the external mic hadn't been turned on, so there was only sound from the camera mic...

Nice review! How do you think the Al Merrick Twin fins model (not the keel) would go in a similar board with fin boxes placed quite far back? Have you ever tried them? Looks like they're right between EN and T1 in size, quite upright template, even more height than EN (although Futures claim it a Medium template x EN X-Large). I'm enjoying this channel! thumbs up
Fernando Frazão probably go good, especially if you’ve ridden them before and know you enjoy them!
Will you review the stacey times two ever?
koan vette hey! Probably not. I’d be keen to check out their bullet twin, but can’t see it happening anytime soon!
Great stuff, a twinnie is my next board.
They are a must!
Hey, chilli sugar or lost rnf retro?
Chilli Sugar!
@@TheSurfboardGuide Why???
@@ccozzarelli Why not!!!
@@TheSurfboardGuide lol … i wanted to know why would you prefer the sugar over the RNF Retro ! Even if you have surfed the CI Fish …
@@ccozzarelli I had a RNF in like 1999 - haven't ridden one since.
The Sugar is epic - a great blend of keel/fish surfing, but also capable of high performance twin fin surfing!
