    I have friends that wanted to get into archery but they were eyeballing $1000+ bows and it's too much for them to start with. the Alaskan and Bear's other entry level options are a great choice. I started with a Bear Species and it served me well. Sold it to a friend so that he can experience archery. It was a good start for him. none of the headaches of setting up a bow. Went out with him and shot same day.
    p.s. we need a review of that kitty at 5:23!

    The Alaskan is a pro shop bow that is hard to find in stock locally, but the Resurgence RTS package is the same bow that can be ordered online with color options, so I bought one! Great specs, smooth draw, nice lightweight cast aluminum riser, okay accessories, easy to setup and tune (60 lb model using bare shaft method tuning and Gold Tip 400 carbon arrows). Upgraded the peep, stabilizer, and cable guide (PSE roller guide). 4 pin sight is workable but LED light is on off only and too bright. Could have shielded the fiber optics a bit from the light but upgraded to a rheostat light instead. It had a marked nock right tear at stock which I tuned out with top cam shimming. During the process, I found each axle was a tad long so I added a 0.020" shim to the upper and lower shim stack to eliminate slop gap under the axel C-clips. End point of perfect tune was 13/16" centershot, arrow rest height so arrow shaft exactly centered in burger holes and arrow exactly perpendicular to string. Top cam lean corrected from marked lean to cable side at brace to only 1 degree cam lean to cable side after tuning with more shims swapped to left side (factory 40% of shims on left and 60% on right with marked nock right tear, and 60%-40% after swap tuned with bullet hole). Bottom cam was leaning 1 degree to cable side (okay), but after adding the 0.020" shim on left side lower cam lean reduced to 0.5 degree to cable side. Didn't need much yoke tuning after the cam shim tune, but nice to know it has an easily tunable yoke system. Cam timing was spot on from factory. Trick was to use my wife's lipstick to smear each cams' cable stop and execute one shot with light back wall pressure, both stops had cable "fingerprints", meaning both touched in good time. I then penciled marks on the cams where the cables intersect to easily confirm timing at brace in the future. After tuning, brace nocked arrow perfectly in line with limb bolts from the front, parallel to stabilizer, and string bisecting the center of the grip from the rear. Shot bare shafts parallel to and stacked with fletched arrows. Sweet shooting bow after minor tuning work. Highly recommended!

  • @huntsimple9527

    Pulled my Alaskan out of the box. Checked spec on A to A and brace. Right on from the factory. Set poundage. Timed cams, they were slightly off and needed one twist. Put on a whisker biscuit and shot a dozen arrows to settle the string a bit. Switched to a Vapor Trail Pro VX. First shot was point high/tail low. Moved the nocking point up a hair. Bullet hole. Zero side to side. With a 400 spine it shot bullet holes with 100, 125, and 150 grain points. One of the easiest bows to tune I have had as of late. Not bad for a $499 bow, considering I have had much more challenging times tuning the big flagships in some cases. Also worth noting, the peep settled in the first couple shots and there is now zero peep rotation. Bear strings are better than Mathews and Bowtech for sure, and at least as good as Hoyt and Prime. It looks to me like Bear might be thinking of dropping the Alaskan from their lineup soon, get one now if you want an extremely high value bow.

  • @drmitofit2673
    @drmitofit2673 Год назад

    Of note, Bear uses coarser threading on their limb bolts so although you are only allowed a total of 6 full turns, the bow poundage range is 15 lb (some say even more than 15 lbs). You can see the free threads on this model. My PSE Evolve has finer threads that allow 10 full turns but only a 10 lb weight range.

    The vibration comes from those 4 string grubs. I replaced them on my Whitetail Maxx with actually brass speed nocks and shrink tubing. It reduced noise a bit, but mostly vibration by half, AND increased my arrow speed by 2 fps. Oh, and I swapped out those limb dampeners with more robust ones.
    The mid-priced budget bows now still can't outperform my 14-year-old Bowtech Destroyer 350 with upgraded Barnsdale limbs, but I agree that they'll outperform most. Hell, even my Whitetail Maxx at 64# outperforms my Solution SS at 71#.

    I had a budget of $1000 for my total set up. I was coming from a diamond black ice 2005/6 bow. I shot alot of brands, I liked several different options but chose the Alaskan. Man am I thrilled with it. I have a 30.5" draw so alot of bows were instantly out. To me the draw got smoother and better up to 200 shots. I love this bow. Went with trophy ridge react 5pin, hit man stabilizer, trophy ridge drop away and it shoots awsome. I did shoot a few flagship bows but couldn't justify the additional $500+. This is a great option.
