Priceless information for a new pilot. Well done as always. Thank you for everything you do.
I really appreciate that you will review the same material multiple times over the years to help us stay current with all of the fast changes and improvements. Thanks Lee.
Cheers Lee.
Was trying to decide what to put in my Mini Drak. You’ve just made my mind up for me. 👍
Thank you for this video!!!! I just purchased a Matek F405Wing to put in my Stratosurfer and I am so LOST with this stuff. I've been flying line-of-sight for over 20 years, but I'm really new to FPV. Your videos are very helpful!
Thanks for explaning the drone modes!
I entered the drone world today and I'm searching about inav and how to build my own drone. Keep it up!
You have definitely got me Very curious about I Nav...think I need to get into it!!🤔🤔🤔👌🏻🤘🏻
Thanks for this Lee!!!
Not all of us are comfortable, and are very new too this, and YOU have a terrific way of explaining these sorts of things.
I for one, am hanging on every word and look forward to more videos such as this!
Thank you Lee!
You're very welcome!
I couldn't agree more!
I just received my AR Wing Pro today!! I think I'll have to invest in an Inav soon. Thanks for your videos!!! Cheers from Oregon!
This is one i defo need for that endurance kwad you donated as im still fairly new to inav.great stuff lee take care stay safe
Thanks Lee, building my first alien 7" with bn880 gps & akk f4 fc. Only ever used betaflight so this is going to be new to me.
Great video, Lee! Thanks for all the tips!!! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Looking forward to future videos.
One of my planned projects is to put a FC into my Twisted Hobbys Zorro ( a fun, flying wing which I have souped up with a quad motor and 4S). I fly 'dumb' FPV on it at the moment with no OSD. I'm not that bothered about the OSD but auto launch, loiter and maybe RTH will all be extremely useful, not to mention an element of stabilisation to stop it jittering in the wind. This series has arrived at the exact right time for me!
Thank you for the excellent introduction. Much appreciated.
This gives me all the reason to finally use the Matek F405. I have it pinned out and originally geared for a Volantex Ranger Ex. But now thinking my RMRC StratoSurfer 1.5m🙂
Great, got some rc pilots in our club who are interested in Inav, now I can refer to your channel again...
Great. The last 3 fixed wing builds since the New Year have all been iNavFlight. Links in description . Happy flying
looking forward to the rest of this series!
No need to wait. It's all in the playlist... Happy flying
On the soldering pins topic, I would highly recommend learning. It's fairly simple, and having less pins can make things much simper and safer to hook up inside the model.
Many of these boards cram things together, so it can be quite a simple mistake of having a connector off by one pin resulting in things not working as expected, or potentially even being damaged with some controllers.
Thank you, this helped me make a big decision to use this instead of trying to write my own flight control system. (I know, crazy idea, but my requirement is/was quite simple, after seeing this, I realised that using a flight controller gives me extra features that would be really useful) I could then write my own later when I want that specific learning experience :)
Congratulations!
Bought and built a 250G from ZOHD with a Matek F411 WSE, I am primarily a Quad builder, but Servos and throws are different for me. and setting up auto launch, is exciting to me as well as RTH in iNAV...will be following along until my new bird is as you say, Tickety Boo for a maiden...I also have a Dart XL I want to fly FPV once I get enough FPV Fixed wing experience, by the time I actually fly the XL, I will likely be putting HD via Byte Frost on it and doing desert flights in the middle of nowhere in UTAH. Till then I am flying Quads and Hex's happily enough.
Really really really useful video and exactly what I need to learn.... problem is I wont be able to sleep until video 2 comes out! Lol... Thanks
No need to wait. All in the playlist...
Spot on again Lee, glad to see you are lending your vast amount of knowledge to those of us trying to catch up 😁. I am just building my new dart XLe with Kopilot. Think I might move over to INAV after you have finished this series. Thanks again. Patreon Mick Elson
iNav is not too tricky to setup. I can do it all in about 15 mins from start to finish but this series shows all the steps and I explain why things are set like they are. Pop me a question on Patreon if you're not sure about anything in the series.. Have fun!
Excellent, thank you!
Thanks Lee, you are the perfect instructor! :) I am about to finnish a Caiprinhia2 that has been on the shelves for a year. I will be using a Spektrum iX20 TX with a Crossfire module and a a Matek 765. Hope you will say a word or two about Crossfire RX setup too :) Cheers!
See the iNav setup video in the Lockdown build where I cover that.. Happy flying
Awesome video for beginners
Thank you, will wait for more. Cheer's
Great presentation! New to fpv. Thinking about installing this on a new Croc with gps and betaflight using the dji hd system... I know the dji goggles do not display all info but inav I think will be better suited to my needs...
Thaaaanks, i did want to build a plane, but i did not know anything about inav... Thank you
I’ve had a ZOHD Nano Talon v1 and a Matek F411 Wing FC for a while now, but I just don’t know where to even start. Inav is so confusing and busy in comparison to Betaflight. Thanks for making this series.
Love it! :)
Does inav osd work with new dji fpv goggles? I followed Matt from Rage and setup inav 4 years ago with omnibus f4 and now I want to do another but with this new matek 405 ( or should I get something better?),,,, looking forward to hanging out with you and several of your different videos after Xmas when Santa class brings all my new stuff,,,, So Merry Christmas from California
"Time to settle your nerves" Aint that the truth!🙂
I have another speedybee drone build with 2400KV brushless motors and really Flys nicely! 250mm frame
Hi Lee, keep up the excellent work and appreciate your noob friendly content!!
I'm about to purchase my first FC and no better time with inav 3.0 to play with. I struggle to understand the specification variants from Matek.... WSE, WPX, SE and so on. I'm a fixed wing guy flying FT DIY foams and ZOHD Dart. Is there a Matek all round FC that you can recommend. One that has all features, won't be left behind with inav support soon and feature full.
All response greatly appreciated!
If you check out my INAV builds you will see the same Matek boards used to over and over again. For fixed wing I use one of the 'wing' series or a F411WSE if space is tight... Happy flying
Thanks.
Hi as tech moves on, which is the best Gps ? the M8N search brings up many options.
will be putting a ZOHD rebel together soon ( when available) and am looking for the best combo !
I'm also converting one of my drones to INAV so GPS info is relevant here too .
thanks !!
I use the larger Puck style M8N, the BN220 and the Matek GPS for the builds here. The most sensitive seems to be the M8N... Best of luck
I fly quadcopters. Looking to try fixed wing. Because of that I have a bunch of 4S 1300 batteries as well as a bunch 2205 2450KV RDQ motors. Would the ZOHD Nano support these parts? If not, any recommendations on a plane where I could use these parts?
Most models will have recommendations for batteries and motors. I use 1300mAh packs on a few things but I've only added motors like that to cheap wings.. Check the specs for the model you are looking at... Happy flying
Does iNav allow for the creation of waypoint missions that are stored say in one's home computer, for copying to a smart device used to fly the drone? I own several older DJI drones and fly Litchi waypoint missions exclusively, but due to the 6-mile round-trip distance limitation of those quadcopters, my dream is to DIY a fixed-wing VTOL plane like the Hewing T1 Ranger, but have it capable of completing waypoint missions even when signal connectivity is lost between the airplane and the RC controller.
ruclips.net/video/J6UBai-OIYQ/видео.html
Do you like the M10Q series of gps or is the M8 series all that’s needed?
M8 is what I use here and works great! Happy flying
I was wondering if you have found iNAV 4.1 to be a bit buggy. I tried to flash the latest firmware on a Mavek f411 and it kept on locking up “saving default settings.” Also said no dataflash chip found. Anyways I reverted to INAV 3.1 and firmware so it works now. I am using a Mac with OS 11.4 big sur. Any ideas why newer iNAV is jamming up on me?
Not sure, I've heard of a few issues with configs and timeouts so will wait for 4.1.1 to update here..
Hi Lee, after watching a countless number of your videos, I just can't quite see the woods for the trees, so I'm hoping you can advise me of the best system to use for the particular display that I'm after.
So I'm just waiting on the arrival of the new Avios Bushmule V2 that I've purchased & I'm looking at putting an advanced flight controller in it including GPS, pitot etc, because I want to be able to have a glass cockpit HUD, the type with the blue/green horizon image as opposed to just a horizontal line across the middle of the screen. I intend to have this displayed on a small external screen or phone/tablet that I can mount to my Taranis X9D+ like a sort of ground station as opposed to using FPV goggles, I just want it more for the data, heading, speed, hight, bank angle etc, as opposed to a camera view per say & I know a lot of this is more down to the software.
Now from what I've seen from all of your videos, I'm thinking that the F722 or H743 would probably be the most suitable flight controller to go with, but I really don't know whether to go with iNav or ArduPilot, so which one in your expert opinion do you think would be best to give the type of display that I'm looking for??
Neither. Both use the on-board, basic text based OSDs. The only vector based OSDs I've looked at on the channel are the ones from Vector (no longer in business) and BrainFPV.. Best of luck
Can you use the Matek F722 wing FC on a VTOL... Could you put the power outputs on a switch??? Such as quad mode with all 3 motors running and switch to airplane mode with just 2 motors running??? I have one that keeps eatting the switching servos. I want to use metal gear servos but the board in the plane wont run the 6v servos.
Possibly. Arduplane is one of the best ways to try that... Best of luck!
Hey buddy good to be in touch with you! Got a question for you? I was thinking of putting together a 500mm Quadcopter using speedybee I was wondering if 380kv brushless motors would work on such a large build???
It is not the size, but the weight you need to know. You will need over twice the weight as thrust to fly...see my motor and prop videos... best of luck
thanx for sharing, would you have a source of where to buy the unit for fixed wing edf jets
You mean the EDF unit itself? Lots of local resellers who stock that kind of stuff like Sussex Model Center, Robotbirds and Steve Webb for example..
I have Drift and 411wse I am not sure how calibrate throttle and enter programming mode for enable brake - any idea? I tried via manual mode but no success :( maybe simple build based on Drift / similar plane not only wings? :)
I'd do all that ESC setup before installing iNav. See how I do iNav ESC calibration later in this series. Happy flying
Hello, I am not getting any video through the Matek 722-wing controller using INAV. I do get OSD on a Black background. I have tried connecting camera directly to the VTX and get good video. I have tried the camera switching in INAV with no success. Is there something in the INAV setup that I am failing to setup. I have used INAV on other plane with no problem. Where am I going wrong?
Larry
There is an option to switch cameras and check that the camera is getting power too - there are solder pads that pick some of the voltages.. See the manual..
If you buy a cheaper f405 what is better or easier to install on it? Arduplane or Inav ?
No need to post multiple times. I'll answer on the other one of these questions..
I have this software and first time using it - trying to flash a Matekf40sse, when I plug it in I get dfu mode so that's okay. but when I try to flash it the software says cannot open Usb port. Any suggestions? Using windows 10.
No need to post twice, I've answered on your other question. Happy flying
If I select rth and loiter on the same switch will it rth and then loiter?
Or would it just loiter where it was switched?
You wouldn't do that. It is one or the other. For RTH on a quad it'll return then land (by default), on a fixed wing it'll return home then loiter around the home location (default).
thank you this is what i want to know how to set up inav using the latest config as i have been told it is completely different than all previous versions. also i tried to open a patrion for you but it tells me i am already a subscriber but i cannot ever remember subscribing is there any way to check if i have cheers keep up the great work i have learnt a lot from your vids and cannot wait for the current situation to go away and i can finally get to my club and learn to fly and then start my FPV flying
Nope, it's still the same as it has been for years. Very few new things for the basic setup have been added over the past few years.. Best of luck!
is the focus of this series on fixed wings or is this series also intended for multirotors
Fixed wing first. See the other videos linked in the description...
Follow a pre-programmed course mode ? With option for operator to assume/relinquish control while aloft ? . . .so learners could learn to fly in modules corresponding to each of stage of flight .
Check out my video on mission planning... Happy flying
F765 is no longer made. Will a F743 be adequate or can I go with a lower cost of one of the 400 series. I am a Beginner
Check out the later series. F405 powered flight controllers are common choices... Happy flying
I am having an issue where my matek f763 is drifting on the setup page. For example, over the time I have typed this comment it has gone from perfectly flat to -60 deg pitch and 25 deg roll while sitting in the same spot with no movement. I have changed the accelerator and gyro according the matek's instructions for setting the board up so I'm sure where to go from here. This is happening directly after plugging the fc in while being powered solely by the usb port. I have performed the calibration and all pre-arming checks are fine.
Not sure, I'd try another iNav version and make sure you don't move the FC as it initialises..
can inav used for grid search drone (quad copter)?
INAV can run autonomous missions but for complex missions, Arducopter has more functionality. See my video on comparing INAV and Ardupilot.. Happy flying
hoping you can help my new F765-WSE wont connect to serial port it has power but wont connect to inav
Have you tried another USB cable?
Matek F411WSE, Strix Gobblin. When armed and Navlaunch enabled my control surfaces don't angle up even with climb out set at 45 degrees. what am I missing?
The won't while you're holding it. Why do you think they would?
I've watched other tutorial videos on the subject and noticed the aircraft behaving that way. What I'm experiencing is zero climb out during launch. I can provide a CLI dump file if you care to take a look at it and see if I've got something out of adjustment.
Unless the level is set correctly (and you have the throttle setup high enough) then it'll struggle to climb with whatever the nose up attitude you've set for auto-launch (18 degrees by default if memory serves). I'm working on a AutoLaunch video at the moment that'll show how I set it up... Stay tuned!
@@Painless360 Thanks, standing by.
I'm wondering if someone would help me! I've been building and flying drones for over a decade but have taken a break for a new years. I'm doing an iNav build with a Matekf411wse. I cannot get my RX to respond in the iNav Configurator. My TX is a taranis x9d+ and my RX is an R-XSR. I've updated firmware on the TX, RX, internal module. I've quadruple checked my wiring. I've tried inverted and non inverted (including soldering to the RX uninverted pad). I've even gotten on the iNav fixed wing FB page trying to remedy it. I've even bought a second FC and a second Rx to resolve and it still won't respond. I'm must be missing something super obvious????
I've used the Matek F411WSE in lots of builds (see the INAV FW build series in Playlists). It sounds like you are making a basic error.. Best of luck
OK, i guess this series is what I need to get in the air .
I have a matek 405 laying in the shelf for 2 years but without gps unit.
I checked the coupon list for a gps but i am not sure if they'd fit all .
So I searched for matek f765 you had mentioned and couldn't find or check it cause column b is to small to read it.
Maybe you can give column b a bit more width and let us know the gps that will work with matek boards ... maybe it is part of next video
thx
Ok, I found some answers in the wiki like recommanded gps
Thanks
i just put inav on my quad which previously was on betaflight. test hovered in acro, also tried position hold which worked.
accidentally actived rth and it instantly went full throttle, had to disarm. any idea.. from reading the docs it should have just landed... had a 3d fix with 7 satalites...
If you were a decent distance away it was probably climbing to the RTH height you setup before flying home... Best of luck
@@Painless360 I was hovering at where I took off.
@@Painless360 i was stil at home position had only took off and hovered.
I'm used to Ardupilot. Wonder how it compares to Inav.
I have a video on that.. Happy flying
hi, I'm building my first fixed wing. Ive ordered a fms ranger 1800mm .
I've just ordered the plane so need to get shopping for bits to build what I want. fancy giving me a shopping list 😁?
I want fpv
rth
stabilisation modes
altitude hold
osd
usual gps helpers.
what easy set up and maby plug and play fc should I get and what r/c t/x etc.
on a medium range budget.
Sorry its long message. I was going to email but Web page said to message here.
Cheers
Chris
Check out my inav for beginners 2020 series for a modern build using up to date pieces.. best of luck
@@Painless360 cheers. I'm sure il have questions along the way. especially weary of the tuning and setup in the software
Have you ever had a wing spiral into the ground using inav. I have twice, but ARDUPLANE never. Both times on two different wings and unrecoverable. It must have been me but I changed to ARDU rather than figure it out. At the time I was new to fixed wing so I do not blame inav but, Ardupilot was amazing to me and I never went back. Love your work and look forward to all your content THX for all you do.
I've never had that. If you follow these steps you'll always get a good outcome.. Happy flying
Hello,it will work with radiolink at10ii?
If the receiver talks one of the supported protocols like SBUS.. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 Thank you

What is the advantage in using inav than ardu?
I'm guessing you are not a regular viewer. ruclips.net/video/ZwCLdkjqM-Y/видео.html
@@Painless360 i am newbie..thanks anyway
How does iNav compare to a PX4? I use $35 PX4s from China which are very reliable and well built. PX4 doesn't have a built in OSD SO I use a $10 Minim. I have not found anything that can beat a $35 PX4.
See my flight controller for fixed wing comparison video from a few months ago. I cover all of that.. Happy flying
I really need a video explaining the difference between ardupilot betaflight and inav. I don't understand :(
All of my videos are carefully organised into playlists and every video has a number of text tags on them to make them easy to find if you use a search. This video should help and explains a few tips for finding the video or playlist you're looking for - ruclips.net/video/CIuUNdVfBJQ/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/P4soR6QgOk0/видео.html. I have a video on 'flight controller comparisons' that covers this.. Happy flying!
@@Painless360 i kept watching your videos and now I get it. Sorry for the duplicate questions
Is this flight controller suitable for a quadcopter?
It's designed for a fixed wing but there are versions of it designed for multirotor.. See the Matek website.. Happy flying
SBUS... so no ELRS then huh? 😕
I've shown CRSF setup for INAV already ;)
Honestly, I think INav a and builds have been done to death now and there really isn't any point making more.
Can we get more Ardupilot/arduplane stuff instead because there are hardly any good clear and straight forward tutorials on it
Thanks for your opinion. Great to hear that you are a fellow iNav pilots with lots of experience: I guess this series isn't for you. See my 3 recent ArduPlane builds on the channel and the PixHawk 2020 series for lots on Arduplane. Please remember that there are other viewers with a lot less experience than you who will find this basic iNav series a real benefit. See the comments. Happy flying!
