The answer is yes. It's literally a hidden gem and a rotten turd. The most intriguing aspect is the Spawn suit, which you can tell they blew the budget on creating.
Dude, it was 1997. After wed seen the 5th element for the 3rd time and a slew of natural disaster movies, and titanic, there wasnt much else to do as a teen before free internet!
I remember going to see this film when it first came out with my then girlfriend ( we were both in the army at the time ) stationed at Ft Hood,Tx.Counting myself and my girlfriend there were 6 people in the theatre.Never been in a theatre with so few people before,it was weird. I didn't like this movie and didn't ask my girl if she liked it either. LOL. Haven't watched it since.
This was an entertaining watch mate! This is coming from someone who has never seen the film, nor do I know sweet fck all about the source material lol. 👍
I did realize it was a flop. At the time it came out everyone i knew seemed to love it. In hindsight, it has a lot of issues that my teenage self never noticed but its still a fun watch
What's sort of cool with the casting of Cog in the movie is that the actor also played Merlin in Excalibur. In the Spawn comics Merlin is just one of many names Cog has used given he's been alive for a loooooooooooooooooooooong time. So, there's some accidental goodness in that. If you wanted to look at it as Excalibur is a prequel to Spawn lulz.
The only true spawn movie is the animated series all cut together into a single showing, which is what I did with my copy. In all honesty pretty much all the Spawn material has been lackluster after episode 100 of the comics. Games included and it certainly doesn't help that Mcfarlane has pretty much come out every 4 years since 1997 claiming a new movie/tv show is in the works ..and then nothing. Repeat and recycle for what is now literally 27 years
Man, I'd still love a solid Spawn game. The Darkness got two that were pretty good at the time, but the best Spawn game is still that kinda generic DMC clone
A game where a level up system consists of a massive web like Assassins Creed Valhalla. The three branches break up into Armor and Suit tree that focused on defense stats and capabilities. Attack with Guns and explosives. And Last would be the Special Ability tree for Abilities the cape could transform and grant different playstyles.
Yup agreed I don't know what the hell was going on in the Melinda Clarke red head titties scenes... she still looks good today! This movie was my guilty pleasure for a few years, I absolutly loved this movie but all of a sudden I didn't watch it for like 15 years and couldn't get through it it was so bad:) so I'm gonna choose to still love this movie even tho I can't watch it!😂
its an awesome movie with an insanely awesome soundtrack. the toyline was the best thing that had ever been seen til that time in detail. idk what the problem was other than people are too stupid to know anything about whats good.
You have to remember that this movie was made in the 90's. They were told that they couldn't cast a black actor because of the "rule of 2". It was an unwritten rule in Hollywood that there couldn't be more than two prominent black characters in a film because they believed that white people wouldn't go see it. It was insanely racist casting, and it also shows how lowly studious really think of white people and their capacity for thinking. They assume we're all racist. It's not like the race swaps of today, it was done with racist intent. This all comes from Todd Mcfarlane himself in interviews.
@@kalkella8822 The truth is that Hollywood itself is, and always has been, racist. The current trend of fetishizing black people like some sort of fashion accessory is every bit as racist as any "rule of 2" that may or may not have existed. It would never occur to anyone in Hollywood (or all of California, for that matter) to simply be decent people.
I still think Leguizamo deserved some award for literally breaking his body to play Clown... and eating live bugs.

The suit really does look great!

The soundtrack Album did a lot of the heavy lifting on this movie.
To be fair, it never stood a chance with John Leguizamo, bloke's a curse
land of the dead
I think Spawn fans have a hard time seeing that as dark as Spawn is there is infact a corny or hokyness to it all.
Its so morbid and dark its funny.

The “Dr. Claws Second Life Avatar” line got me 😂

Good catch, I've never seen Excalibur
@@BaffledBuffoon it's not a bad King Arthur movie. Zack Snyder loves the hell out of it. It's ok, kinda goofy, very 80's fantasy.
@@wurm4676gonna have to check it out at some point

Yea the only thing I remembered from this film was Leguizamo I thought he was hilarious.
Hidden Gem
Spawn rocks.

The cgi doesn't hold up on this movie at all. But Clown was the best part of this movie
This cartoon is like smoking pot with Doug Funny if he aged every year since I was a kid ❤️
No joke this dumb movie got me a lecture form my parents cause I rented the R rated version and this was one of tamest movies I’ve ever watched
Really?? Can't imagine why, unless they're extremely religious or something

You were doing so good until the weird race-swap bs. wtf
