I don’t understand your problems with the cheesy dialogue in RE4. Resident Evil was always a cheesy action franchise, with the very first game having an over the top intro that announced the characters names, with all of the text being on fire.
I haven’t played separate ways yet, so I hope I like it. But I’m not the biggest fan of the new Ada voice.
EDIT: I made this comment before getting to you discussing that. I still disagree.

I agree the cheesy dialogue in RE4 was part of the charm, so if this man played the original when it first came out he should have known this because fans were actually scared that it was going to be super serious in the Remake it did have its cheesy moments and I'm glad Nick fought to keep those cheesy one liners in. Because he said an interview, they were going to take someone liners out, including the famous Bingo line

No. The reason why the games are perceived as cheesy is because they hired hack voice actors. Gaming wasn't treated with the same respect as movies back then. Japan put out a casting call for the live action parts of the OG game, and the very first group of people who showed up got hired. They didn't intend for the game to come off as cheesy at all. Mayhap, you don't understand that people who don't use English as their native language don't know about tone in English. You can be 1000% sarcastic, and they think you're 1000% serious. Maybe, have an understanding before openly lying about gaming history?

Sadly the only two ppl who rlyyy cared about REs story among capcom were :
"noborou sugimuru" (screenwriter for OG2,founder of "flagship" which handled the writin of RE till OG4) he sadly passed away like 10+yrs ago
And "kenichi-san" basically the guy who enriched the simple story of OG1 with the lore,he quit capcom after 96,and went on to work for the company tht made "parasite eve"

Like in my opinion least : mikami provided the right raw material for the story, while kenichi-san filled in the blanks, enriching the world, and noborou sugimuru would b the guy u want for buildin up the grand story/writing a decent deep nuff script

What RE2R Claire did you play? Yeah, she's capable woman but she's still acts like a caring big sister to Sherry, which was basically her whole character in the original.
I hate the "Girl Boss" trope, but Claire just being a capable woman who swears in pretty understanable situations, doesn't make her one.

    • @JG004-kk1do
      @JG004-kk1do 7 месяцев назад +3

Yeah she’s definitely not a girl boss type, I think they are referring to her more brash and vulgar nature. Her new actress was given creative freedom with her so she based Claire’s new characterization off her own personality.

@JG004-kk1do i would agree that those are boyish traits. However, Ellen Ripley also had masculine traits whilst still being a feminine capable woman.
Claire was raised by her older brother, so that characterisation actually makes so much sense to have more brash side.

I wasn’t trying to say she had boyish traits, I was saying she wasn’t a girl boss stereotype but what you said was accurate. Her original characterization had a bit of a brash side but the vulgarity was a little too much to suit Claire’s character.

He should be complaining about the schlock in current "RE" being entirely artificial and forced, like a parody of something it only understands at a surface level, instead of a natural byproduct of aiming to be cool like it is in the actual RE games.

My guess is that because RE1 Remake is his favorite, he sees the serie's cheesiness as a mistake that they wanted to correct in the remake, and is so familiar with the remake that he no longer registers the cheese that is still there. So in his mind the series was meant to be serious and only accidentally ended up cheesy, and RE1 Remake fixed it and was meant to be the style going forward, only for 4 to be even cheesier ON PURPOSE. I like the cheese, but I think there should be a proper middle ground which the new games fail (mostly because they are poorly written on the serious bits, and seem ashamed of the cheese, so they fail on both, to put it simply).

the amount of laziness with capcom is beginning to grind me down with Resident evil, yes reusing environmental assets is normal and part of game development, but when i was playing RE8 halfway thru i stopped and realized "Holy shit......this games world design is specifically made to reuse as MUCH as humanly possible for the RE4 remake" to the point i began wondering "was this game made specifically so capcom could have 2 games using near identical enviromental assets"

      @BaffledBuffoon  8 месяцев назад +2

Right, that's something that doesn't get talked about enough. I actually like the RE engine, it's obviously very flexible. But it's also made it far too easy for Capcom to reuse existing assets instead of ensuring each game stands on its own and has a unique atmosphere.
They've become reliant on a copy & paste approach to design.

I'm going to have to disagree with any negative comments about the remakes. All the new stuff (7, 8) is pretty bad, though. I can't take the supernatural elements seriously at all. Also, creating a new enemy for the sake of having a new enemy was a bad choice. Why Capcom is so obsessed with steering away from actual zombies is beyond me. People say they're just reinventing the genre like they always have, but it's not even in the same vein. I'm personally excited for 9 to come out just so this "trilogy" can be over and we can move on to better things.

Ummmm, actually.... Lol, just goofing. I have a few notes to mention. First off, I am halfway with you on being done with RE. However, my distancing started with Code Veronica. I still live by the original canon that Wesker is dead. CV and after has just been downhill with all the wacky stupidity being tossed into each new game. When everything becomes wacky and stupid, it becomes the norm and is no longer the same tone of the original games.
REmake 2 starts off pretty well, but then dives into that wacky stupidity I mentioned. There is a RUclips video a lady had uploaded spending 2 hours dissecting how the remake isn't good and what they could have done. I agree with about 90% of the video. It's the only video uploaded to that account, too. I would have to look for it to find it again, but I will if needed.
I am not blaming Lily Gao. I think she did an excellent job, but it sounds like the microphone was two rooms away from where she was standing when she recorded her lines. I thinks it's frustrating and disrespectful how some fans of the games harrassed her so much she had to delete her social media. Her quick cameo in WTRC was fine.
I also hate how they constantly change the characters. Chris' physical change to a completely different person really bugs me. I had some hope at the end of RE7 that they were going back to a good design. Oh well.
That RE5 shit started before the game even released. Back then, most caught on that it was fluff garnered for clickbait. It died off relatively quickly. But, it was low-hanging fruit. RE4 had a similar plot, yet killing of that population was fine. My opinion is it would be racist if RE5 didn't have Africans in it. Thankfully, this "remake" of that article has been shot down, too. But, it still got its clicks and mentions in many other RUclips videos, so IGN won that.
Looking forward to part 2 of your Twisted Metal video.

Hmm, I can understand that perspective. I've always hated sudden character resurrections, it's a quick way to make your audience realize your story has no stakes.
And CV has its fair share of unnecessary goofiness for sure, starting from the very first cutscene.
I'd definitely be curious to see that video you mentioned, but don't worry about trying to find it again.
The thing with Lily Gao is, I've got zero respect for people who play the race card to dodge criticism. Some of us can play it very easily but choose not to. As was her choice to throw Sally Cahill under the bus with her remarks about "inauthentic" voice casting.

my dream is to make a canonical movie of RE1 that has everyone surviving and making it make sense.
gonna be my second project once my first novel is out.
i hate the fact that there is no continuitiy for the first game, which is the base pillar for the whole series.
but there will be one thing for which the community is going to crucify me.
wesker needs to hate chris, like really really hate him bad, so somebody, has to be captured, somewhere in the middle of the story.
which would also greatly work into her next game she headlines, cause she has a chip on her shoulder ever since, which would explain why she felt like she needed to stay.
but, i'm hard pressed to believe that crapcom would buy my idea, to make it a movie, even if i achieve the unthinkable, and write the next potter of the rings XD
as you said, they need it to be this vague, cause this way, they really only need to focus on the story beats which are important, and otherwise they can go all revisionist and the fanboys will protect the corporation.
my personally, the day RE died, was RE4. everything which made RE worse, started with that game. it maybe a good game, aside from the fact that, most ppl feel this way about the whole game "oh no, not that part." but it was when the series lost its identity, and turned into the germ of the weak.
the virus thing made sense. you can use those to deliver mutated DNA into a host. that's literally how they work.
parasites like the las plagas, would downright destroy the body. mold, mold doesn't work like that. whatever uroboros is, nothing works like that.
and even birkin was really tough pill to swallow. you can't just grow in mass exponentially, without adding mass. they could've had him absorb bodies, they could've had him eat bodies, with a pronounced belly, to strike even more fear into the player, seeing him break of williams jaw and shoving whole legs into his defomred stomach. but nope, the g virus allows your mass to just grow in size. which should basiclly turn him into empty space inside.
the t virus meanwhile, always stayed in that realm of suspension of disbelief. the experiments they did, stayed in that, disgusting yet totally believable for corporations and GVT, that they would pull sh1t like that. i mean, read a hitory book that is uncensored, profit makes ppl do wild things, same as the dream of accodales, no matter how you reach the point when you get accoladed.
so, if i'm honest, since i was a kid and read about RE 1.5, i actually wanted that game. i was kinda mad before i got RE 2 cause they threw out most of it. i just felt that they would do something stups. and i was right. they uped the anty with the g virus, for a form that made no sense.
meanwhile, they could've secured the g virus for nemesis, and saved themselves from using a parasite, that was programed to hunt down ppl with a certain jhob description. which is ridicolous XD
would've made more sense if the G virus jut heightened the mutatablility, without destroying most of the mind.
so, would i want to write RE2, 3, and CV?
tough one. i guess i could fix them into functioning timelines. and with CV being the 4th movie in a horror series, which would make slop be an expected part of it, as most 4th movies in horror movie series are the slopiest, or the funniest, guess this is how far i would push it.
RE4 is a 80s action movie with monsters. RE5 is a 90s arnold schwarzenegger movie. RE6 is too much. would have to be a disjointed trilogy.

    • @johnnyjohn-johnson7738

RE4 feels like a cross between Dagon and The Temple of Doom. One movie that really reminded me a lot of RE5 is "No Escape" with Owen Wilson (though it's set in a fictional unnamed Asian country instead of a fictional unnamed African country). RE6 is like World War Z since it's also about an ageing pretty boy traveling around the world to stop a zombie outbreak no matter how many plane crashes it takes.

  • @emmaevans9498
    @emmaevans9498 8 месяцев назад +9

Yeah, the franchise should've ended with 6. They bungled it according to the fans (although i generally had fun with it) but their attempts at a 'reboot' with 7 were shite at best. Crapcom's main angle with that was to have the player 'step into the character's shoes', but when they realised not only have the RE games hinged on you knowing the characters & liking them, they backpedalled completely in 8 to give an already tedious character a generic 'my baby needs his daddy' bollocks. Add to the mix Chris Redfield being there to fill in a blank is just cringeworthy now.
Its ok to let a franchise end. In fact, most should the way things are these days. The more 'fans' will stop sitting there waiting for the next installment of crap with a name stamped on it, the sooner folks can become sane again & actually expect their money & long running support to produce something of quality. Dunno where most people seemed to lose that expectation but that's probably a whole other problem.

I think the one significant feature of RE1 Remake, which hasn’t aged well, is how you still cannot see a portrayal of Wesker’s rebirth and escape from the Arklay Mansion, within the narrative of the game itself. You still need The Umbrella Chronicles, what should be a purely optional spinoff/supplementary game, in order to see an event as pivotal to the timeline as this.
On one hand, RE: Code Veronica kind of made a gratuitous retcon by suddenly bringing him back as a superhuman villain, who would then become the main overarching threat until RE5, despite this seemingly not being the plan at all during the Original RE1’s release. So if RE1 Remake’s goal was just to be the game Shinji Mikami always wanted to make back then, I wouldn’t necessarily hold it responsible for later games’ retcons. But on the other hand, RE1 Remake did take the time incorporate many call-forwards to the sequel games’ events/lore, including RE2, RE3: Nemesis, and even RE: Code Veronica which brought Wesker back. Given that, and how it would have helped smooth out the franchise’s overarching narrative in general, I still think it was major missed opportunity on the RE1 Remake’s part. That is, much more so than not giving players an ability to see all four characters being picked up by Brad together. At least for the latter, each of those individual characters’ escapes are still possible to see within the game itself, so it is not hard for someone going into RE2 to just picture the canon story being an amalgamation of those available campaign options.
Also, Baffled, I finally bought my own copy of RE4 Remake at half-price, so I could get both DLC packs without paying more than the regular price in total. While I might play through the Original RE4 first, so that I am most refreshed and able to directly compare the two games, I might finally play through all of RE4 Remake soon and have my own definitive opinion on it.

Today i was playing re4 remake and the note about the guy who turned into verdugo ends with "im going to be YOUR VERDUGO". Like, it was already enough to say he was experimenting on himself and would turn into something else, the context alone would made us understand that the file was about the enemy we were facing in that moment. And honestly, I see you getting a lot of hate in the comments, and I don't think it's warranted. I didn't see anything you said as sexist (I'm a mixed woman), I agree in fact, I'm exhausted with girl boss plots and pc dialogue, when the writers are too afraid to tap into their creativity because someone somewhere is going to get offended of course the quality is going to drop.
I loved Ada, but we don't need every female to become a pallet swap of Ada. And I liked the casual jokes and flirting in Og Re4, in fact I think capcom peaked with og Re4 and it's just been a downward spiral since. (And on that point, I think they completely misunderstood their own character, Ada wasn't bland and uncaring. She was sexy, confident, intelligent and calculating. She had her own secret goal in mind that no one knew. She wasn't monotone, but that seems to be what they're turning all their female protags into, cookie cutter, monotone girl bosses. Nothing interesting about them anymore, they're all as flavorful as a bag of flour.)
I was so disappointed by the Re4make, they took out and changed 90% of what made the og so great, the only compliment I can really give is the extra details we learned about the cult and the bonus Luis Sera content, but even then I didn't like how they plastered him in a chapter he had no place being in. (Though I'm glad they added him to mercenaries, always felt that that was a sad overlook on their part)

I was around back then and very into RE games and I remember the outrage and them completely changing the game for these reasons. So no, it has nothing to do with woke culture. Even Capcom knew something was wrong themselves and decided to change it. While I don't think Capcom did it on purpose and I don't think Capcom is racist but I do think Capcom agreed that the imagery was a little on the offensive side.
If you aren't in a position to understand why something is offensive to a group of people, it's best to not speak on it, but calling the people who understand it crazy because you don't - is dismissive and adding to the offense. Was RE5 the game racist? No, ofc not especially not to a fan like me who understood the story however, was the imagery recalling a very real problem for blacks in reality, yes.
Anyone is free to disagree, but if you do you either don't understand why its offensive or do understand, and chose to be complacent...and we all know what complacent equals.

Did you feel the same way when Leon was mowing down Spanish speakers? Seems like most people who complain about RE5 didn't.
And I'll talk about whatever I choose, thanks.

@@BaffledBuffoon RE4 doesn't have the same imagery that recalls a real problem with "Spanish speakers" being citizens in reality. To try and compare the two only shows ignorance to the real problem or avoidance due to a stubborn stance on what you believe is right or wrong in a closed mind.
There's a reason why most people who have a problem with RE 5 don't have a problem with RE4 and that reason isn't fueled by hypocrisy. It's simply because RE4 imagery isn't a sad and scary reality for a group of real people (Spanish people) but RE5 is (Black people). It doesn't matter if you don't understand why, you wouldn't because you're not part of that group of people. It's ok to not understand but, it's not ok to not respect someone when they say something offends them.
If you go to a foreign country and that culture tells you that its offensive to wear socks - do you dismiss them and not respect their culture because you don't understand what's wrong with socks? No, ofc you wouldn't. It wouldn't matter if you don't understand why, you just know it's their culture and it offends them, but it seems -to you, black people don't deserve the same respect when they speak out and say something is offensive to their culture, you'd rather argue, deflect and dismiss them.
If there was a German man part of the BSSA blowing away and gassing Jews in Israel because they had a virus, do you think that imagery would be appropriate, or to tell Jews you have no reason or right to be offended? This borderlines the same feelings for blacks. If a person still don't understand that, it's ok but if a person don't respect it, then there's something broken somewhere in their morality or have a hidden bias that doesn't allow them to respect all people and cultures equally regardless if they understand all aspects of their cultures or not.
And yes, you can talk about whatever you want, you are very free to, I never said to not talk about anything you want. I simply said "IT'S BEST" to not speak on something you don't understand (if you don't). It's a suggestion to avoid sounding uniformed, ignorant or miss informed. You could easily give people an impression of you that you didn't want them to have. But in the spirit of "free speech" by all means speak as much as you like, especially if you don't care about how you come across or who you offend. All types of people should have the right to say what they want.

I agree you shouldn't speak on thing's you don't fully understand.
Why don't we ask Black tribel people in Africa how they feel about RE5 ?
I'd bet almost anything they would not give a flying f*ck about it.
But until African players of tribal people complain who tf are we to say it's offensive or racist on their behalf not even black Americans or Europeans can complain.

2007 and there wasn't woke culture? Of course there was and people were calling it out then even if the term "woke" wasn't being used. Its was called it different things such as "Liberal", "Progressive", and "Politically Correct" but it all meant the same thing.

@@TheLastArcadeSamurai You would have half an argument if black people didn't COME FROM AFRICA or wasn't sold into slavery and forced to come over to America, but I guess we are going to ignore that.
