    We all know less weight is better, but what exactly is going on with the reduction in rotational mass on the 2.0T of my Volkswagen? In this video, we take a look at the numbers between weight, diameter, and rev time to see what the CTS Turbo lightweight pulley is actually doing!

    Less rotational mass is less load on the engine, which is less exhaust gasses to spool the turbo. Kinda like how it's difficult to spool a turbo and get any real boost in neutral with no load on the engine. A lightweight flywheel and the lightweight crank pulley basically do the same things. Too light a rotating assembly can make a turbo car feel a little more laggy, but will rev faster once in the powerband. The stock crank pulley revs faster to 3K because the additional load is causing the engine to make a little more boost under 3K. Once the car is in boost, the reduction in rotating mass causes it to wind out quicker than with the stock pulley if that makes sense.

      And there it is! I knew someone would be able to nail that down and explain it! Much appreciated, that makes perfect sense!

      completely disagree, and I have dyno data to prove it. Light weight will rev faster because its less weight that has to accelerate, there for it will rev faster and accelerate the car faster. Rather than wasting the power to patristic loss, you are now putting that power on the ground. Even if the spool time was a tiny bit slower the benefit of removing weight from the crank shaft far out weighs the tiny bit of lag you might create. lightening up the rotating assembly will also translate into much less rev hang, so your shifts will be much quicker and smoother as the rotating mass can slow down faster between shift to drop rpm for the next gear. My only concern with this cts pulley is, it likely does nothing for harmonic balance, with out that you are putting those vibrations into the crank shaft, it can be troubling for some engines.
      here's my dyno video that proves my theory. power was up every where in the entire curve with lightened rotating assembly. ruclips.net/video/L-zTxKbFjBY/видео.html

      @@A2J_Tim You're saying you disagree, but you're basically saying what I said. I agree the power increase outweighs the little lag increase but it is there and might just be a couple hundred RPM. Once you're in boost the power is absolutely better everywhere while revving faster. I was just explaining why. Unless you're in a ridiculous Honda drag car with no accessories on a 9lb flywheel and a huge turbo and top end that sacrifices drivability via air velocity for outright flow, the lag you get from the lightweight pulley on a street car like the MK6 GTI is mostly negligible.

      @@KMFDM781 if you look at my video, the torq curve and power curve come on sooner even at the lower rpm's, it seems to me that it made little to no difference in turbo response, but because you can come up in revs faster your into boost faster there for its almost as though it improved boost response.

    Hey, I just found your channel, I’ve been watching a few episodes and I love what you’ve done with your car. I also have a mk6 GTI, and I love it. I’ve done a intake, full exhaust (catless), and tuned it. I’m still inspired by your car and you, I have a lot of work to do lol. Please keep up the work!!!!

    great video. I'm building a mk8 GTI now, and I'm adding the neuspeed version of this to the build. Thanks!

    HARMONIC BALANCER:
    They are in effect vibration dampeners and are frequently called dampeners. Dampeners are like torsional shock absorbers used to dampen torsional twist and vibration in an engine. Torsional vibration is a twisting vibration caused by the firing pulses of each combustion event.
    The performance benefits of using the proper harmonic damper are considerable. A properly functioning damper also stabilizes camshaft and ignition timing. A reduction in twist at the end of the crank also stabilizes the valvetrain. The result is more power and longer engine life.
    Four cylinders are unbalanced engines which generate excessive vibration frequencies. Stay away from this aftermarket mod, there is a reason it is called a damper (the pulley is solid steel and hardened rubber). The crank pulley (damper) is meant to absorb the vibrations (rubber portion of it) from the engine.
    Maybe and only maybe you can get away on a stock application, but once modding it is a matter of time for the bearings or oil pump to blow up and it will, dont ask me how I know, lol...

      what about when people run these engines without any accessories you really think a single wheel is the most crucial part of most engines maybe of a few that are not designed well but I doubt that is the rule for most engines if any at all.

    I swear youtube wants to censor christian creators. I have not gotten anything of yours in my feed in months and i have notifications on. I assumed you stopped posting until i just randomly remembered you and wanted to see what you are up to. The quality of these videos are just too good to have such little numbers of views! Can not wait for this channel to explode. Keep up the good work and God bless you!

      Well I am glad you are back! If I am to stop posting for any period of time, I'll make a video about it so it isn't random! Gotta keep posting to catch that there algorithm. Do not do this mod. This pully is not meant for a harmonically balanced engines, our engines are harmonicallybalanced. Not sure why CTS would even make these, very bad R&D. Mine caused a huge leak on my front main, twice. It has now been removed. Use the Fluidampr pully, it is made for a harmonically balanced engine.

    • @TheParkingLotMechanic
      @TheParkingLotMechanic  Год назад +2

      I have no doubt Fluidampr is better, but with 17k miles on this pulley, I still have yet to have an issue. In fact, every non-Fluidampr pulley I have installed hasn't cause any issues.
