@@RetroRaconteur Also the single and double question marks also tell you which pad to turn. Single question mark problem then use the pad with the single question mark.
You can also link the creature's features to the numbers i.e. Unicorn has 1 horn, graphorn has 2, next one has 3 heads, fuzzy one has 5 feet, spiders have 8 legs, last one has 9 heads. But easiest is to count 0-9 in the order they are depicted on the arch
About the Arithmacy chests, I'd save them for around lvl 30+, because level progression is so much faster before, so loot will be replaced faster, and the importance of legendary gear isn't going to be relevant until you are higher level anyways. Considering they are guaranteed legendaries, it makes gearing up 2-3 times from levels 30-40 extremely easy, convenient and noticeable, for example. So I'd say just ignore them until higher levels.
I don’t know if anyone has figured it out by now but if you use the transfiguration spell on an animagius that turned into a wolf it will transform them back into human instead of transforming them into a barrel or explosive barrel if you unlock the perk in the talent menu also you may get some funny reaction from the animagius you turned back
I found out about this accidentally because usually I don't see these guys transform into wolves. Mostly I only see them after they're already in wolf form, and it was when I cast the Transformation spell on a wolf, who afterwards turned into a dead person (I must've cast another deadly spell after the Transformation spell), that I realized there was a connection. Thanks for bringing it up, I'd most likely have forgotten about it if you hadn't. :)
I was doing the merlin trial with the big stone ball that you have to roll and some of ranroks loyalists were around and I just used accio to pick up the stone ball and was dropping this stone ball on top of the goblins over and over again. I was just laughing the whole time, they really did a great job with this combat and how in-depth it goes
Yeah I honestly love the amount of creativity you can have with taking out enemies. Plus random stuff like centaurs showing up and helping you finish them off
Here’s a tip: Explore the vivariums that you unlock in the Room of Requirement. There’s 4. Forest, Coastal, Swamp & Grassland. Search the corners as there is little chests with locked cosmetics in for the Room of Requirement. Aside from buying them in Tomes & Scrolls in Hogsmeade, as well as completing all the bandit camps you can find in the Valley, this really is the best and safest way to get all the cosmetics for it. The fact you can explore the vivariums as well as the map of the world just adds a little bit of extra replay value to the game if you miss them on your first play through. I mean I don’t know how you would because you unlock them through the main campaign. But you’ll probably miss exploring them thoroughly.
Imperio is so underrated. Personally it’s one of my favorite unforgivable spell when you’re outnumbered and cornered. It forces one of your enemies to turn against each other and temporarily become an ally. You can use it on trolls, poachers, spiders, goblins etc. but it doesn’t work on Inferi. You either have to use incendio or confringo.
I spent so many hours going out my goddamned my mind trying to get the loot bag when you first go into the RoR and then got the biggest _"Oooooohhhhh. I'm so stupid aren't I?"_ moment of my life when I realised I could accio it. Super love the amount of things the game doesn't necessarily directly tell you and you have to figure it out.
The Merlin's Trials with the cubes stumped me for a while. I finally had to look it up and felt very dump for not even trying that particular spell. Genius on Avalanche's part.
Very important progression tip: you can manually save before opening the bandit camp treasure chest, reloading after looting to reroll what drops, so as long as your patience holds out you can hand pick exactly what Traits you intend to use out the gate. Bonus points if you look up where to grab the Kneazle cats to grab for your Vivarium as their fur is needed for I think all the T3 Traits. Additionally, if you want to keep the game challenging I recommending not straying off the beaten path much, specifically you'll want to keep your level relatively equivalent to the recommended level for your primary quest as you go along and don't get caught up grinding challenges, otherwise you'll quickly wind up in a full set of over-leveled Legendary gear and just one-shot everything your character is scared/nervous about in cinematics, really screwing up the immersion.
@@RetroRaconteur , I realized at the third bandit camp that I can do that (saving at the moment before opening the chest, then going back in time to roll the dice again), since I've been using this technic in other games for ages... I was reluctant to take camps since I was bad at combat against wizards and goblins but instead leveled up pretty fast mostly by exploring and killing fauna, and I heard from someone that being higher level increases the chance to get 3rd tier trait from a bandit's chest. I don't now if that's true, but I got only two random traits out if 8, 6 others are the result of "rerolling", and it never took more than 4-5-6 trials to get what I wanted every time. Here's the screenshot: i.imgur.com/q4NVdF1.jpg (and I made a thorough research about the best traits an was aiming for the few specific ones). But be aware, that when you reload the game, most often the enemies in the camp respawn. The good thing is that the chest is always in some hidden corner, so they won't spot you immediately, but anyway put your Disillusionment spell in a slot to be readily available before making that manual restore point... Allow me another tip about the best 3,000 spent in the game - I'm talking about "Hopping pot that brew random potion". You can get in from 'Tomes and Scrolls' right after you get the Room of Requirement. The thing is - for the same price you conjure 3 (three) hopping pots side by side, the preparation takes 12 min, and the amazing thing is that every potion, except the Invisibility one, has the same chance to be brewed (the probability of the Invisibility potion is reduced approximately by half). You will fill your potion slots in no time without a warry about hard-to-get ingredients... Only thing, when your slot of some potion is full, you can't empty the pot like you do with plants, you will have to "Evanesco" that pot and conjure a new one in its place, though it doesn't cost you anything, just takes a bit more effort... Here now it looks: i.imgur.com/ywTs5nE.jpg
The hardest merlin trial i've come across so far (aside from the one with the blocks shown in the vid) was one where I had to jump on multiple pillars. I kept falling off when jumping so I used the aim button to align my character toward the center of the next pillar and i didnt fall off again. took like 10 min to figure this out tho lol
If you save before you open the chest in the bandit camp you can reload if you don't get what you like or need and because it's randomized you can use that to farm traits you want
I popped an enduras potion to survive, dropped a couple of Chinese Chomping Cabbages and hopped on my broom to fly away to the edge of the battle area to be safe as the plants just made short work of the enemies. The depth of what you can do with combat if you have the skill to pull it off is insane. - Doc
The stone Merlin trial you showed, easy solution is to flip (flippendo) on side until you match up the same symbol, once that happens go to a side to the right or left and start flipping and it should finish the trial. If you don't find the symbol on the first go around go to the right and flip once and go back and start flipping. The big bolder one, you can use accio or depulso but the easiest is Wingardium Leviosa, you can just pickup the bolder and move it. The jumping trial, just take out your broom and fly to one stone to another, you don't have to land just your feet touch the top. Check first for any objects on top of the stones and blast them out of the way.
Yep! I just didn't have flipendo yet! The game doesn't really tell you if you don't have the spell you need though so thought that tip may help some people from struggling needlessly. 😅😅
I’ve had good success saving right before I open a trait chest and then if it’s a garbage trait, just reload and try again. Wastes some time, but works great if you’re looking for something specific.
I disagree with you on one thing, combat in this game is both easy to understand and easy to master, but that's more a positive than a negative in my eyes. Not all combat has to have a massively high Devil May Cry-esque skill ceiling to be satisfying. This combat achieves exactly what it should achieve while remaining fun, it makes you feel like a cool wizard.
The Levioso diffindo combo doesn't just work on dungbogs. Any cc into a high damage spell (Defindo, Bombarda, Expell, etc) is better than using basic wand attacks. CC increases the damage of the next attack by 1.5 and 2x in some cases. Add the curse damage on that and you're cooking with gas. Glacius applies a freeze which is why it plus a red spell afterwards is so much overkill.

The talent trees are available after you finish "jackdaw's rest" (from what I could tell) I've played the game through 2 times. So much fun and is not a short game, which is good imo.
For the arithmancy doors, his way may be correct, but I always find out by the number of “?” In the thing. One has 2 and the other, 1. Same on the door. They correlate
I think once you start the puzzle though, the question marks on the door no longer show. But that should work too as long as you take note of which one is which before you start the puzzle! EDIT: Oh wait, I see it now!!! That's probably even easier than my way, lol. But the direction of the triangle works too 😄
The first tip works with enemies under imperio too. If it's the only one remaining just approach and execute it with petrificus totalus. Doing so doesn't remove imperio so you can curse a troll for example and spam petrificus totalus until you kill it
The first tip works with imperio as we'll and it was intended To be like this the way u can tell is because he shouts or says partrificus totalus he doesn't whisper it.. U might be thinking wtf does that have to do with anything we'll it has to be programed into he game and recorded somehow the incantations have a whisper and a loud phrase for the incantations so does partrificus totalus it's a not in combat spell which is why u can cast it in glacier and imperio
Your four spell combo isn't close to being the best four spell cast. A better one: Levioso Desendo Glacio Difindo Glacio adds a damage multiplier to any succeeding spell. The highest damage spell is actually incedio but the range is tiny. This makes using accio with incendio essential.
The switch combat works but in Story Mode, when you hit the (X) or (a) button in combat it doesn't do what you want it to. It doesn't register it half the time. Still fun though.
Using Accio to get the loot from bags around in the game world..., what a great idea, I had _not_ thought of that at all. I've been doing the slow methods so far, climbing, and sometimes hopping on the broom, to get to them. A joyful and fun tip. :) Great video throughout, and most of the things you mention took me a while to figure out. These are good things to know about in advance. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Good to know! That still wouldn't account for side quests and exploring though. Some people are putting off the main quests quite a long time by just going out and exploring.
@@RetroRaconteurI personally try to stick to the MQ pretty rigidly until I get talents. Hell, I was level 16 and 9+ hours in before I got talents and I only did 2 side quests. Never played an RPG that locked the skill system behind so much of the game. Odd design choice; and by odd, I mean stupid.
@@nonamesoloist I feel like the game intended for you to do side and main along side each other, like how Sebastian’s story line kinda goes hand and hand with the main quest
Hey Guys, Petrificus Totalus can also be cast on enemies that you used imperio spell on. Easiest way to kill a troll and he cant even fight back cast it multiple times
With the Arithimacy puzzle its not triangle direction - but one number has one "?". the other one has two "??", each dice to rotate also has corresponding one or two question marks - so thats how you know which number is which :)
Once you’ve activated the puzzle, you don’t see any question marks on the door though. You only have question marks on the wall panels. So it’s just easier to look at the direction of the triangle and see which one matches. EDIT: Oh wait, I see it now!!! That's probably even easier than my way, lol. But the direction of the triangle works too 😄
I got past the quest to unlock the hippogriph and my pre order bonus hippogriph and thestral aren't there in the mount section of the gear page. How do I fix this ?
Just get Unforigveable III, put it on every item, skill that crucio jumps over the curse status, search for the biggest enemy in camp, press R2 like stupid kinda easy.
For the first combat trick. instead of icing them you can literally just use an invisibility potion, walk behind and petrify them. And for the tricks the field guide doesn't say, they are usually on the bottom right as combat feats
I don’t know if it’s just different systems or what but I’ve seen several people say you can’t get back the talent points but with my PS4 it says I can pay coins to get the point back??
What’s too strong is 1 tapping everyone you’ve put a curse on… wayyy too overpowered you just have to spam flipendo expelliarmus stupefy crucio Imperio then AK… that’s like 6-7 free kills just from spamming different spells at enemies… wayyyy too OP
I actually managed to figure out the puzzle doors. They are all related to the picture. So the thing that disappears, 0. The Unicorn-1, Goat-2 (2 horns) Spider-8, and so on. Some are trickier than others but once you have a few down, the rest fall into place. I guess if you're watching this, you don't really need this comment because he shows the sheet but still... just saying.
I don't know if anyone can help, but I think I stumbled across a bug while doing this. I've only got one field guide left in the whole of Hogwarts and it's in the bell tower wing. I ended up following this tutorial, cast revelio in all the right locations, and nothing. I have discovered all the field guide pages (and remember doing them all) but the map is still saying there's one missing.
Tbh a better combo with glacius is; Accio, Descendo, Glacius, Incendio. Well at least this is a combo I found to better suit me as it nearly one shots enemies that can be affected by spells like Accio and Descendo.
If you're a completionist like me, go to mapgenie and they have the hogwarts maps which shows most field guides, landing pads etc. Also some things won't work or reveal themselves until you progressed far enough into the story. Like getting into the kitchens won't happen until after the Jackdaw Quest. A landing pad doesn't work until you pop a set of balloons. FYI to able to check off everything on the map there is a $5 pay wall but at least with it and can show you things you might have missed. Also the 2D map of hogwarts is easy to find places you might have missed.
There is one thing thats seemed kind of odd to me that my game has my character and surroundings are always highlighted. And i hav no idea how to remove it as well, im on ps5 btw
This game is so much fun, maybe im alittle biased bc I’m a Harry Potter nerd, but I haven’t had this fun on a game in a minute, and I played God of War, and Elden Ring.
The biggest problem with the combat in this game is that it's already so ready in hard mode that learning all these cool combos isn't even required to daily defeat all enemies you encounter
Random chest hack. Save before opening them and if you don't get something you're looking for, reload and open it again. Repeat until you get a desirable item. I can't take the credit for this tip and can't recall who provided it.
Those Merlin trials with the stone where you have to match the symbol are so annoying! I have every spell unlocked i beat the story part I'm level 35 and i cannot finish the trials. 😫
Yeah, what I meant is that it's hard to say when people will unlock it in terms of hours played. Because you can go for hours on end just doing side quests and exploration. So while the mission that unlocks it is the same, it's hard to say after how many hours.
those arithmacy doors scare me, i'm so bad at math i barely understood your explanation lol, i'll probably have to look at online guides when i play, i'll be getting my copy of the game soon but it'll be on PS4 so i'll still be late to the party, hope your playthroughs going good :)
You add up 3 numbers and get the number at the centre. Something like 1 + spider + ? = 11, you know spider is 8 so 1+ 8 + ? = 11, so 9 + ? = 11, ? = 11 - 9, ? = 2 that is the bicorn figure.

The talent trees are available after you finish "jackdaw's rest" (from what I could tell) I've played the game through 2 times. So much fun and is not a short game, which is good imo.
With the takedown method, if you use Glacius on one enemy and aresto on the other enemy, you can take both down with totalus.
You can definitely use petrificatus totallus in combat ... with invisibility potions.
Beef up the cabbages and let ‘em roll. Takes care of nearly everything in short order, and have you seen those bad boys jump? Outstanding!
But the direction of the triangle works too 😄
Best Hogwarts Legacy video I’ve seen so far, so clear and to the point
Wow. That means a lot, Tommy! Been working hard on these so I really appreciate the kind words.
The patrifacis totalis (however you spell it) also works with the imperious curse
The first tip works with enemies under imperio too. If it's the only one remaining just approach and execute it with petrificus totalus. Doing so doesn't remove imperio so you can curse a troll for example and spam petrificus totalus until you kill it
13:30 the puns, I love it 😂 sneaky sneaky!!
😄
The first tip works with imperio as we'll and it was intended To be like this the way u can tell is because he shouts or says partrificus totalus he doesn't whisper it.. U might be thinking wtf does that have to do with anything we'll it has to be programed into he game and recorded somehow the incantations have a whisper and a loud phrase for the incantations so does partrificus totalus it's a not in combat spell which is why u can cast it in glacier and imperio
Haven't done all the puzzles. But atm the arithmancy are my favourite
1:38 actually you can use Accio, Descendo, Glacius, Diffindo in that order to 1 shot nearly any enemy that can be pulled in by Accio
Your four spell combo isn't close to being the best four spell cast.
A better one:
Levioso
Desendo
Glacio
Difindo
Glacio adds a damage multiplier to any succeeding spell. The highest damage spell is actually incedio but the range is tiny. This makes using accio with incendio essential.
Not trying to get through this super fast. Taking my time and understanding it 😀
The switch combat works but in Story Mode, when you hit the (X) or (a) button in combat it doesn't do what you want it to.
Great video throughout, and most of the things you mention took me a while to figure out. These are good things to know about in advance.
Thanks for sharing! 👍
Glad to help!
One of the best tips vids I've seen so far, not the same recycled tip vid I've been seeing all over.
Wow, thank you! Glad you found it helpful 😊
Awesome video, I love the combat combos so epic. Man I'm stuck between wanting you to stream again but loving these videos!
More streams are coming too!
The talent tree is unlocked immediately after Jackdaw’s Rest quest. 100% confirmed.
Hey Guys,
Petrificus Totalus can also be cast on enemies that you used imperio spell on. Easiest way to kill a troll and he cant even fight back cast it multiple times
Really helpful tips without giving away any real spoilers, thank you.
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful!
I beat all main quest and side quest in 35 hours. Awesome game, hopefully they will bring us an expansion later this year.
What is the point of the loom if I just find more gear with better stats? Everytime I find better gear does the game expect to me weave traits?
You can apply stronger type of buffs on them
There’s a respec mod on PC. There’s also an inventory management mod for those not wanting to toil with inventory management.
But the direction of the triangle works too 😄
Levioso->decendo does extra combo damage and puts them in a vulnerable state.
You unlock talents with the jackdaw quest and when you find the map chamber
I got past the quest to unlock the hippogriph and my pre order bonus hippogriph and thestral aren't there in the mount section of the gear page. How do I fix this ?
May have to contact Avalanche about that one something may not have downloaded
Just get Unforigveable III, put it on every item, skill that crucio jumps over the curse status, search for the biggest enemy in camp, press R2 like stupid
kinda easy.
For the first combat trick. instead of icing them you can literally just use an invisibility potion, walk behind and petrify them. And for the tricks the field guide doesn't say, they are usually on the bottom right as combat feats
Well yeah you can go invisible…but where’s the fun in that?!
@@RetroRaconteur honestly your right, I just need an excuse to use the consumables because there never seems to be a reason to actually use them xD
@@Vesperios2350 LOL. True! The potion is so quickly too! I know there are ways to extend it, but by default, it's only a few seconds 😄😄
I don’t know if it’s just different systems or what but I’ve seen several people say you can’t get back the talent points but with my PS4 it says I can pay coins to get the point back??
Yep, this was added later as part of the 2024 summer update! Great feature for new players, for sure.
What’s too strong is 1 tapping everyone you’ve put a curse on… wayyy too overpowered you just have to spam flipendo expelliarmus stupefy crucio Imperio then AK… that’s like 6-7 free kills just from spamming different spells at enemies… wayyyy too OP
You can imperio a troll and spam square to hit the stealth and you can fully kill it pretty fast
Another fact about the arithmancy doors is that the single ? answers can only be odd numbers and the double ?? can only be even numbers.
The combo spells that I use is flipendo and depulso plus flipendo and descendo
you can use petrificus totalus in the middle of a fight if you cast imperio
Thx very good vid❤❤❤
Tbh a better combo with glacius is; Accio, Descendo, Glacius, Incendio. Well at least this is a combo I found to better suit me as it nearly one shots enemies that can be affected by spells like Accio and Descendo.
I didn't know you can climb on a box that you are levitating. Thank you great video
Yep! Very handy to reach certain areas. Appreciate your comment on the video.
That little *ding you hear when you use revelio is not just for field guide pages.
If ANYTHING is considered interactive it will make that noise.
If you have a surround sound system the Revelio spell sound will even help you face the correct direction to find the field guide pages.
Ahhh, very nice!
Nvm, i found it.. high contrast colors😟
0:07 "Or pull up a combo like this?" *just spams every spell without any synergy*
Nope
Can you make a video on to get the Merlin coat and all the Twitch stuff. I don’t have any and I linked my accounts Twitch and WB.
Will you make a video on easy kills without using wand? Currently I’ve found the cabbage to be OP when used correctly and beef those core talents.
I'll add that to the list. Sounds like a fun one to try!
Another great video Retro! Thank you!
Appreciate it! Hope you're enjoying your playthrough.
@@RetroRaconteur Loving it!
BTW that hidden room was only hidden because you had the mini map off. They show up in the mini map, so something to help if you are hunting for 100%.
Ahhh. That kind of ruins the fun, lol. Another reason to keep the mini map off!
This game is so much fun, maybe im alittle biased bc I’m a Harry Potter nerd, but I haven’t had this fun on a game in a minute, and I played God of War, and Elden Ring.
I'm having a blast with it!
The biggest problem with the combat in this game is that it's already so ready in hard mode that learning all these cool combos isn't even required to daily defeat all enemies you encounter
Does the trait stack?.. or just one will make your spell stronger?..
Good question. Pretty sure they do, but I want to do more testing to see how much.
If you stack multiples of the same trait, they stack, hell they even multiply the effect.
i thougth the same about the doors exept i counted from 1 not zero ... lol
Count the number of appendages on each symbol also works. Unicorn = 1 horn, Spider = 8 legs etc.
Random chest hack. Save before opening them and if you don't get something you're looking for, reload and open it again.
Repeat until you get a desirable item.
I can't take the credit for this tip and can't recall who provided it.
👍
What graphics mode is this gameplay in the video? It looks like 60fps.
Performance mode on PS5, which runs at 60.
The Talent tree unlocks as soon as you meet the first keeper in the map room.
At what level is the buy the shop level start
Imperio will also allow you to cast Petrificus Totalus onto an enemy at any time.
Why is accio considered purple and levioso yellow, when their effects are the opposite?
you can just save before opeing the chest and get the trait you want
Those Merlin trials with the stone where you have to match the symbol are so annoying! I have every spell unlocked i beat the story part I'm level 35 and i cannot finish the trials. 😫
To answer your question talent trees are unlocked when you complete the the Jack mission in forbidden forest
@@IchigoMadara1 i appreciate the attempt to help, but honestly i can't even do multiplication or division at this point lol, its really bad, i'm better off looking up guides
@@professorbaxtercarelessdre1075 to put it in simpler terms if there's a symbol of an animal, a number and question mark you work it out by knowing which number the animal represents then you add or subtract depending on the puzzle, that's it, literally a 10 year old could do it, it's extremely easy.
@@delzsupreme i suppose i'll find out when i finally get my PS4 copy, i just can't understate how bad at math i am, literally can't do division let alone algebra
Lmao why I was having issues with that particular Merlin trail lmao I tried everything lmao so most likely I ain’t got the spell
I’m like 30 hours in my first play through and I JUST got to winter 😅 needless to say I’ve been getting distracted
Hey, nothing wrong with that! Take your time and enjoy the ride.
Kee[ up the content, really love the game and I am about ready to watch your stream replays, just wanted a spoiler free playthrough at first :)
Appreciate it! Enjoy the videos. Hope you had a great first playthrough.
@@RetroRaconteur I did and now I'm going for that platinum trophy
I dont know if anyone else noticed this, but you can use petrificus totalus on solo enemies and infamous enemies you use Imperio on. Its.. really busted, lmao
This video did help 🎉😂
you can combo so much faster on pc. the spell swapping is so much better
Just a shame it runs like shit on pc
@@Marlesden true still looks damn good tho
Hell yeah so much faster hitting the spells n the game runs so smooth on my pc
Ohh interesting. I'll probably try the PC version at some point as well.
@@Marlesden It runs awesomely smooth like butter on my pc, you must have a turd of a pc.
LOVING the game, and loving the advice. :)
Thanks, Rossi! Glad to hear you’re enjoying it. It’s so good.
