I find combat to be the most boring part of this game. I just find myself merely mashing buttons mindlessly during most fights, casting Levioso, Accio, Incendio (I know Bombardio is better than Incendio, but Bombardio's cool down is too long and throws off my rhythm -- I keep Bombardio in my spell quad for Trolls, but I rarely use it for other enemies), then rapidly blast them with Basic Cast while waiting for the cool-down. I'm NOT saying they should dumb down or shorten the combat since so many people enjoy it, but I don't. For me, these long fights just take so much time away from following the story, especially when they throw an Armored Troll or two into the fight.

Wigenweld 2 turns the potions into full heals, meaning you can carry 25 full heals to use during the invicibility time at 1HP. Give's a lot more room for those struggling with combat still
I actually took Wiggenweld 2 without taking Wiggenweld 1. It doesn't do a full heal but it's a HUGE increase over the normal potion. I'm not sure if the 2nd rank is more potent than the first since I didn't take it, but it's possible. If someone wants to test that it may be worth waiting until level 16 if you don't want to take both.
I absolutely recommend the revelio mastery because you can see enemies before they appear on the mini map & also u can see far away chests in a large building that you may miss.
Can be really useful for popping baloons too, but isn't necessary. If you don't explore that much, it is not that good. Quite terrible for a whole talent point, I'd say. Very useful if you love exploring, but if not, extra range while normal is plenty already, is useless.
I watched many videos of tricks & combat stuff... however this one is an absolutely great video, mate! how u demonstrate the spells & weaknesses of enemies is on another level. KEEP UP!
The last minute of this vid was gold for me, I struggle so much with clunky movement using the controller so Im grateful that you gave some tips on this. Thanks so much.
Best guide for HogwartsLegacy yet I’ve seen. I got this on the switch and the in depth combat redeemed the shortcomings of the switch version by so much! I was taken aback by the limitations of the gameplay (not the graphics because I was briefed by the reviews) , but the combat… this saves the game from being mediocre.
Having played 40+ hours in the game, I knew some of these tips, but watching your video dedicated to combat tips AND the one dedicated to talents I know I've made some bad choices. This is why I'm starting a new character, using the tips you've mentioned in your videos. Thank you for the tips, and keep'em coming.
Just got the game this week. This video was exactly what I was looking for! Combat gets a bit sweaty for me due to my tendency to panic lol. This really helped me rethink movement and combos, making combat so much more fun/flowing. Thanks man!
I turned 'camera relative' targeting off from the beginning. Still getting use to it but, I like the versatility of it. Super fun game. Thanks for the tips.🏰⚡
Try expelliarmous + glacious + ancient throw. It's same as using glacious against a troll. You need to be quick to catch the weapon b4 hits the ground but, it does some high damage and it looks awesome. Smashing a frozen enemy with their own weapon
For the camera targeting stuff: I recommend and love keeping camera relative off, the benefit of being able to initially point to someone with the left thumb stick and still targeting them if they are behind you and you don’t move the left stick again is awesome. One thing I haven’t tried that I realized while watching this is actually R3 locking onto a different enemy while my current one is behind me. It would be really cool if the R3 lock on feature was camera relative even if you have camera relative targeting off so you can quickly snap to an enemy without having to move left stick. I haven’t tried it, and honestly don’t even know if this made sense LMFAO
Nice! Glad to hear you like camera relative targeting off. It's my preferred playstyle as well. And that's an interested idea you have with combining camera relative off and lock-on targeting. I like it! Unfortunately, I don't like using the current lock on targeting because it forces the camera to follow the target as well. Makes sense on the surface, but I find it limits my ability to stay aware of other enemies. Anyway, thanks for your comment!
@@ArktixOfficial I’m right there with ya! I thought of testing to see if the lock-on targeting is based on camera-relative targeting or not because I also just can’t bring myself to using the lock-on target. I don’t really like how the camera angle/distance changes when it’s activated, it feels zoomed in and restricts the intuition of just panning between enemies. It would maybe be better if it zoomed the camera out of anything. The only thing I do that I would consider weird is that instead of sliding camera acceleration all the way to 0 or 0.1, I actually maxed it out at 1.5. I know it sounds crazy cause I also am never a fan of sensitivity acceleration ESPECIALLY ON CONTROLLER but for me it still felt way too slow after turning the camera sensitivity all the way up. I tried leaving it at 1, and a few others, but maxed out acceleration kind of feels really nice honestly. It seems like the acceleration is applied over time rather than how far you push the joystick, but since it’s so fast you never have to hold a direction for too long at all, so I really never notice that the sensitivity is getting faster, but you can notice it for values lower than the max. I could be crazy, but I do recommend giving it a try. We aren’t aiming with the camera anyways, so turning a tad bit too much sometimes doesn’t really put you at a disadvantage. Although, I did not know that there was a dead zone feature, so I probably will try that as well. Steam controller layout settings could play a part in this too though, it could be defaulted in those settings to 0.1 so even if it is lower than that in game it wouldn’t change if the game is ran on steam.
My man, thank you so much for pointing out the camera settings changes. I had no idea that they had the dead zone jacked up by default. Same with the other settings. Those are nuts to have for default. It never crossed my mind that they'd be set this way and I just thought it was on the clunky side. I also came straight over to Hogwarts from finishing my platinum on Elden Ring so a somewhat loose stick didn't even register with me.
Absolutely great video. This is the first game Ive ever played where I actually need to be decent at combat and it was really disheartening trying to figure it out on my own since I’m not used to this play style. This video helped so much and I’m actually enjoying every aspect of the game now thank you so much!
I'm glad to see this comment. I know I'm a couple of weeks late lol, but I just came across this video. It's really refreshing to see someone who was struggling with the combat not just badmouth the combat system of Hogwart's Legacy. It's quite the complex combat system, and I've seen a lot of people who struggle with it just call it bad instead of trying to get good.
Probably the best tips video I've seen for this game. Very good tips. I like the more ranged spell combos, so ending in diffindo. An alteration I use is to use arresto momentum as your levitate option. It lifts enemies just like the other control spells BUT with the curse talents you can cause it to also curse targets. This means even more damage for descendo or the red spells. Especially if you have unforgivable and/or concentration (damage to cursed targets/damage from spells) weaved into your gear. My go to spell loadout is; arresto momentum (cursed) -> descendo -> glacius -> diffindo.
8:08 I prefer the camera relative aiming so I can see if I am actually hitting an enemy.. I admit it sometimes is bothersome when enemies pile up on each other which makes it hard to select a specific target (to break shields), but that is where lock on comes in handy.. 15:57 Can confirm, I was level 21 when I finally unlocked talent points (from a level 5 quest).. Main reason I was 21 at that point was because I kinda went Skyrim mode and wandered off after they finally let me outside.. Also, I was playing Pokemon with all the pages and flying books.. GOTTA CATCH'EM ALL!!!
Just a note - this game was absolutely made to play on consoles so if you have a PC I strongly recommend getting a controller. I just use one of our old wired Xbox controllers as they work for PC as well. This was a game changer for me. It's so much more enjoyable with a controller.
Thanks for taking the time to explain how some spells interact. You've definitely helped me figure out how to refine my spell binds too, as right now they were functioning but not well for combos without doing lots of switching.
@@ArktixOfficial Even just mildly applying the spell interactions and redoing my binds tonight to my game really made me feel like a badass in combat. came back to say thanks again.
definitely upgrade your dark magic and learn the curses. You can put curses on people using stupefy and other frequently used spells, and once you have a group of them cursed just use the killing curse on one enemy and every cursed enemy dies at the same time. Its a talent you have to learn but well worth it.
This is one of the few actually super useful guide videos in gaming, same for the “how to move like a ninja in rainworld”, cause it actually tells more advanced stuff that the game doesn’t tell you outright
I've been looking for a great video for combat tips... specifically for settings and this is one of the best I've seen. Definitely subscribing and checking out your other Hogwarts Legacy content!
Arktix, As a Beginner to this type of game your vid here is amazing! And I also like that you didn't exclude PC use! Probably the best overall HL vid I've watched. Well Done!
11:30 Adding Bombarda to that combo makes it even better. Accio-Descendo-Bombarda has grown to be my all-time top-favourite spell combo in this game. Very, veeeeery closely followed by using Flipendo on trolls' clubs. Best combat mechanic ever 🤣🤣🤣
I use an X-Box controller on PC, and have found that if I assign a control spell to Y (which is yellow), a force spell to X (which is blue), a damage spell to B (which is red), and an additional spell to A (which is green), I have an easier time remembering where things are.
Loved how you presented everything and even though I finished my first play through already, I’ve learned a great amount more watching this video. Subscribed and looking forward to catching up on the rest of your Hogwarts Legacy content!!! Ty!
Thank yo for the video! I think the best combo actions when dealing with multiple enemies has to be Crucio. The extra damage to other enemies is so good!
Just watched a video where the guy says to put Glacio in the dustbin. But, you've shown me the Jedi ways of using combination spells and how to store them. Thank you!
@@ArktixOfficial Got to give credit where credit is due =) Now if you could just do a video teaching how to not panic when facing 10 mobs at a time! Playing console, and having my direction and camera controlled independently has been very challenging. During the chaos I sometimes struggle keeping up with where all the enemies are. Watching your game play where you seem so calm and controlled is inspiring lol
I'm a fair deal into the game and randomly decided to watch your video. You just saved me from all my frustrations with the camera settings, sensitivity and all 😭👌.
I didn't know about the Ancient magic hot spots increasing the ancient magic meter. Definitely a lot of helpful tips here that that game doesn't tell you.
Personally I have put accio, depulso, levioso and descendo on the same set since they all move enemies in one particular direction. The problem with associating spells according to specific combos is that executing a different one (ex: accio, descendo, glacius, incendio to levioso, descendo, glacius, diffindo) becomes much harder.
Best RPG RUclipsr, you don’t need to change my mind about this, you need to change your own if you don’t agree with me. And if anyone needs proof about how dedicated this guy is, check out any random video he made on Horizon, you’ll think this guy is a dev by how many things he knows about games
Awesome guide, I'm currently about level 28, just got the game a few days ago and didn't know about the perfect Protego circle timing. It's a pity the game doesn't have a respec option, or a new game plus, lets hope that's added soon :)
Very helpful video, I'm aiming to do my 2nd playthrough without the usage of plants (other than for the duelling feats) and possibly not potions and obviously none of the curses which make combat way too easy. I think it will be an way more action focused run compared to the more story and exploration based run I had before. Will probably take a bit of a break though, just playing the game twice without break might probably make it a bit too boring in terms of the questline since different decisions kinda don't change the game
This video has to be one of...if not the best I've seen in terms of explaining things or giving most helpful tips. I actually found myself going for pen and paper to write down said information. Ive never been good at combat in games liking it mostly to math word problems of my youth, so I usually skip the combat in games. A lot has been helpful beyond belief in this video however, so thank you for the clarity. I was still very much scratching my head when you spoke of the camera and its settings in combat. I play on a switch and I really don't get it. Do you have or do you know of anyone who does have a video that works with a complete combat beginner with terms and what to do with them with camera settings, what they mean and how to figure out what works best with how you fight?
Very solid trips, I just started playing HL and i'm enjoyting it very much so far. I will definitely be taking into account the tips you mention in your video!
I lucked out with the trait drop and was able to get 6 laceration III equipped in early midgame. Doing that while in disillusionment and one-shotting enemies was more fun than it has any right to be. I didn't even know how lucky I was at the time, diffindo is literally the most damaging long range spell (not counting AK and special cases)
If you're doing that from stealth a lot, ambush does way more damage than laceration. Although, in a stealth build, I prefer to run cabbages. Herbology is disgusting and the enemies don't have shields if you're stealthed, so cabbages just delete everything.
@@willferrous8677 No, I'm saying if you do exactly what you're doing now, using Ambush instead of Laceration means your Diffindo does double the damage
so i have glacious + diffindo and accio + incendio as my main spell set, idk if its good but it works, now idk which spells to put on the other spell sets
I’m gonna have to screenshot your video at the end so I can get my settings the same! I had already reduce one of them, but too many to memorize. great video as always!
If playing on hard I recommend not going full tilt with attacks on large groups, focus more on protego and countering. It's real easy to get fucked up trying to spam spells. I have 3 4 spell combos and used to just hold r2 to rapidly cast but it got me in trouble at first trying to kill everything as quickly as possible
Here's a tip: Equip herbology 2 or 3 Equip fangs 2 or 3 Equip ambush 2 or 3 Equip them all twice, or just once, your call, best effect is twice, obviously. But you could also combine it with protego 3, ancient magic 3 and ancient magic gathering (its not called that, the one that fills the meter up faster). But it works best if you Equip those 3 twice each. Then create just 1 combo with: Accio of square Transfiguration on triangle Expulso on circle Disillusionment charm on x And lastly equip a bunch of chomping cabbages, but you need to ve boosted the talent for it so you get 2 cabbages for 1 Then just cloak yourself and attack from a distance, close to something you can hide behind, release l1 once to sent 2 cabbages to attack and no matter who you face or how many, it'll be over in seconds
I was really having trouble understanding how to fight as I've only played Witcher 3 before and got really used to it's way of fighting but your video was amazing! Thank you👍!
I only started playing two days ago so the most helpful thing for me here is that you can have multiple spell sets- I was wondering how on earth that was meant to work!!
Thanks for the tips, especially the camera one. Also I just discovered you can use motion sensor with flying, a much better way to get around with the broom as I found the flying controls not really good.
It seems like for the basic attack, there should be some more options. Maybe hold the button down for a charged attack (because it kind of gets annoying to press it 4 times), or just like using the other spells, hold it down while using the basic spell to release a multi bolt spell.
For those who are concerned about talent points, the latest update of the game allows you to reset them now for a small price so now we don't have to worry about it!
Aaand for those of us who have no co-ordination --- Drink your endurus potion and spam chomping cabbages -- (getting plant upgrades and chomping cabbage upgrades to your clothing) --- Also later on i swap coats depending on enemy set (you could extend to other clothes) - used thunder potions when i ran out of vegies -- but admiteddly the early trials i found very hard due to lack of protego ability.

Nice! That sounds like a good setup 👍
3 mins in and this vid is already super helpful thank you, well done
Awesome! Glad you found it helpful 😄
Most thorough and detailed guide on the tube. Thank you sir.
Thank you! Glad you found this helpful 😁
Loved how you presented everything and even though I finished my first play through already, I’ve learned a great amount more watching this video. Subscribed and looking forward to catching up on the rest of your Hogwarts Legacy content!!! Ty!
Hey thanks a lot! 😁 Glad you found this helpful even as an experience player. I appreciate you comment 🙂 Lots more Hogwarts Legacy content on the way!
Best CT video! Watched a lot of videos… this is the one!
Hey thanks! 😁 Glad you enjoyed it, and I hope you were able to pick up some tips!
Thank yo for the video! I think the best combo actions when dealing with multiple enemies has to be Crucio. The extra damage to other enemies is so good!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed this!
Just watched a video where the guy says to put Glacio in the dustbin. But, you've shown me the Jedi ways of using combination spells and how to store them. Thank you!
The best combat tips on RUclips for this game. Thank you!
Hey thanks! I appreciate that 😄
These are some really good tips. Well done. I will be sharing this to help friends who have been struggling with the combat in this game.
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful, and I appreciate you sharing it with others!
These videos are awesome. So organized and clear. None of that prattling on that muddies the message. Thanks for the work you put in. Very helpful.
Hey thanks! Glad you find my videos to be good quality 😄
Well done mate. Learned a few new tricks. Thank you.
Thank you! Glad you were able to pick up some tips 😄
Hands down the best combat guide I've watched. Super helpful - thank you!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed this, and I hope you were able to pick up some tips!
I didn't know about the Ancient magic hot spots increasing the ancient magic meter. Definitely a lot of helpful tips here that that game doesn't tell you.
Awesome! Glad you were able to pick up some tips! Thanks for your comment!
Best combat guide ever
Hey thanks! Glad you liked it 😄
New player here, and after watching this video, my experience with combat has greatly enhanced in both skill and enjoyment!
Awesome! Glad to hear you found this helpful!
Hey thanks! This is very kind of you 😄 Glad you enjoy my content!
@@ArktixOfficial you can’t realize how much you helped me 😂😂😂
@@Hybr1d996 Glad to hear that! 😁
This is very comprehensive, thank you! I’m still in the early part so I haven’t got some of the mechanics yet but it’s easy to understand!
Thanks! Glad you found it comprehensive. I hope the tips are helpful!
Best tutorial video yet. Thank you!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Awesome guide, I'm currently about level 28, just got the game a few days ago and didn't know about the perfect Protego circle timing. It's a pity the game doesn't have a respec option, or a new game plus, lets hope that's added soon :)
Thanks! Yeah it would be nice if you could respec skills
Thank you this is extremely helpful and very pleasant to listen to the way you're explaining 👍🙏🏻👌💙
Liked, subscribed and ringed the bell ✅️
Very helpful video, I'm aiming to do my 2nd playthrough without the usage of plants (other than for the duelling feats) and possibly not potions and obviously none of the curses which make combat way too easy. I think it will be an way more action focused run compared to the more story and exploration based run I had before. Will probably take a bit of a break though, just playing the game twice without break might probably make it a bit too boring in terms of the questline since different decisions kinda don't change the game
Glad you found this helpful!
Holy moly a Good Combat Tips video that doesn’t have background footage on Easy/Story mode.
Haha thanks! Yes I play on hard only 👍
THIS is what I was waiting for, sir! 😉
Awesome! Hope you found it helpful 😁
Great video. I'm like 6hr into the game and really love it! I'll try a couple of your tips when in due times. thank you
Awesome! Thank you 😁 Hope you find these tips helpful when you get a chance to try them!
Amazing video mate, the information you give has opened up new ways i will now play the game. Thank you so much bro
Awesome! Glad to hear you found this helpful 😄 Thanks for your comment!
Great presentation. You gained a new subscriber. I received more useful tips from this one video than 10 other ones. Keep ‘‘em coming.
Hey thanks a lot! Glad you found this helpful 😁 I appreciate your sub!
Very solid trips, I just started playing HL and i'm enjoyting it very much so far. I will definitely be taking into account the tips you mention in your video!
Thanks! Glad you found these helpful 😁
Thanks for the tips! I shall use this knowledge to my advantage.
You're very welcome! I hope you find them helpful 😁
@@ArktixOfficial I have found them helpful!
Great explaining! Keep up the good work! Very good info! Subscribed after seeing multiple videos you made related to Hogwarts L.
Hey thanks! Glad you're enjoying my content. I appreciate your sub!
Glacius and Diffindo is one great combo. Thank you for this information. Will surely enjoy playing this game even more.
Nice! Yeah that's a pretty sweet find early on. Diffindo is probably my favorite spell, so I love the Laceration trait too 😁
If you're doing that from stealth a lot, ambush does way more damage than laceration.
Although, in a stealth build, I prefer to run cabbages. Herbology is disgusting and the enemies don't have shields if you're stealthed, so cabbages just delete everything.
@@Danceofmasks The range is part of why it's fun doing it that way.
@@willferrous8677 No, I'm saying if you do exactly what you're doing now, using Ambush instead of Laceration means your Diffindo does double the damage
@@Danceofmasks Ah, well i didn't get ambush until very late. Besides I like the freedom to go loud if I want
so i have glacious + diffindo and accio + incendio as my main spell set, idk if its good but it works, now idk which spells to put on the other spell sets
Those are solid 2 spell combos for sure!
Subscribing. The first video (so many tips I wished I knew, etc) was really cool. But, this one earned my subscribe.
this is so informative and helpful, especially the spell combo!
Great tips. Thank you also for timestamping them so we can easily jump to the section we want to hear about.
Thanks! And glad you find the timestamps helpful!
This was extremely concise and helpful!
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful!
I'm so excited. I can play within 2 weeks and I'm trying to learn about stuff before I start without spoilers, thank you for your videos!
That’s exciting! 😄 I hope you’re finding my videos helpful 😁

I’m gonna have to screenshot your video at the end so I can get my settings the same! I had already reduce one of them, but too many to memorize. great video as always!
This is a very well done guide, sending this in a howler to my homie in slytherinth... they need a lot of help.
Haha hey thanks! 😁 Glad you liked it and thanks for sharing it!
Man this video is 10/10 great job
Hey thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 😁 Hope you picked up some helpful tips!
Well set out. Well explained. Great guide.
Thank you! 😁 Glad you liked it and found it well done 🙂
Great video! I'm one of those who likes to group colour groups in the same set, but after watching this I will change things up.
Easily the best vid I've seen so far on this topic
Hey thanks a lot! I appreciate your that🙏 Glad you liked it 😁
Bro thank you very good info great narration and you spoke over the video 📹 great stuff helped me a million
You're very welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Damn you took the time stamp to another level! thanks for the video o/
Haha yes 😄
Here's a tip:
Equip herbology 2 or 3
Equip fangs 2 or 3
Equip ambush 2 or 3
Equip them all twice, or just once, your call, best effect is twice, obviously.
But you could also combine it with protego 3, ancient magic 3 and ancient magic gathering (its not called that, the one that fills the meter up faster).
But it works best if you Equip those 3 twice each.
Then create just 1 combo with:
Accio of square
Transfiguration on triangle
Expulso on circle
Disillusionment charm on x
And lastly equip a bunch of chomping cabbages, but you need to ve boosted the talent for it so you get 2 cabbages for 1
Then just cloak yourself and attack from a distance, close to something you can hide behind, release l1 once to sent 2 cabbages to attack and no matter who you face or how many, it'll be over in seconds
I was really having trouble understanding how to fight as I've only played Witcher 3 before and got really used to it's way of fighting but your video was amazing!
Thank you👍!
Awesome! Glad to hear you found this helpful 😁 Thanks for your comment!
I'm now getting around to doing my playthrough. You're A+ my guy
I only started playing two days ago so the most helpful thing for me here is that you can have multiple spell sets- I was wondering how on earth that was meant to work!!
Glad you found that helpful!
Thanks for the tips, especially the camera one. Also I just discovered you can use motion sensor with flying, a much better way to get around with the broom as I found the flying controls not really good.
Thanks! Glad you found that helpful. And yes, good point. Motion sensor flying can definitely be nicer!
Expelliarmus + Ancient throw! It could have avoided a good amount of deaths in my case. Thank you.
Yeah that’s a great combo! Glad you found that helpful!
The
best hogwarts legacy video i have seen
Hey thanks! Glad you liked it 😄
New subscriber. Thank u for the tips! 🥰
Hey thanks! Glad you found these tips helpful 😄 I appreciate your sub!
Super useful. Thank you! Wish I watched your video early on😊
It seems like for the basic attack, there should be some more options. Maybe hold the button down for a charged attack (because it kind of gets annoying to press it 4 times), or just like using the other spells, hold it down while using the basic spell to release a multi bolt spell.
Very well put together. Thank you 🙏🏽.
Hey thanks! 😄 Hope you found these tips helpful!
