Hogwarts Legacy could be canon. Because it explain about ancient magic. The magic that lily used to manipulate voldy magic and make his avada kedavra spell to split his soul to harry.
And also about harry can control stuff in the muggle world. When he inflate that annoying lady. That was indeed ancient magic there. Accidentally activated because harry was angry. Remember, guys lily's power back then WAS NOT "LOVE MAGIC". IT WAS ANCIENT MAGIC. Ancient magic lured by the emotions.
It doesnt make any sense if you think the plot of "love magic" is logic. Lol what era is thjs today? 1500s? XD
Love is just one of emotion/feeling. It should not have any power except for the delusional feeling to that person.
Ancient magic is far more logic answer.

Especially given we find out about his fascination with Dragons from an early age earlier in the story, on the Rowland Oaks quest, similarly to Voldemort and Snakes.
With all that said, I was a bit disappointed by the final fight. I was hoping both Ranrock and I would be infused by the Ancient Magic and have a super powered battle, using more regular spells that were now magnified, then you have a choice to return the magic or not, which changes the game’s ending. One counterpoint: players are not able to obtain THE Elder Wand, only a wand using Elder Wood; The Elder Wand had a Thestral Hair Core, whereas players in H.L. can only obtain wands with the typical Olivander cores: Unicorn Hair, Dragon Heartstring and Phoenix Feather. While Elder Wood wands were very rare, owing in-part to the dark reputation of The Elder Wand no doubt, it is stated on the official website that other Elder Wood wands are made, and that those who were chosen by wands of Elder would often find connection with those chosen by Rowan Wood wands.
While The Elder Wand is featured in the game, it is only as part of a quest that saw the player go inside an enchantment, living out an interactive test based on The Tale of the Three Brothers, and not, in fact, real events, or memory of events that happened in-game.

    @ipatch9856 Год назад +13

Ok, since a lot of people are commenting about this, I’ll attempt to make an explanation that is a bit more comprehensive.
    Spoiler alert!
In the game, at one point, you’re given the task to go to the headmaster office to initiate your next trial.
But unlike the previous ones, this one in particulars requires you to approach the book on the pedestal which is the iconic tale of the three brothers, The Deathly Hallows.
The transition where your character gets pulled into the book is undoubtedly supposed to be a nod to Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets.
In that the same thing happens to Harry when reading and communicating with Tom Riddles diary.
Reminder that in both cases at that point, both Harry and your character are seeking knowledge. Your character to gain knowledge from the pensieve memory and Harry to gain knowledge of Aragogs existence.
The one crontradiction in that section is how your character seemingly ends up at the map chamber rather then back in the headmasters office. Harry was simply shot back out into the chair he was previously sitting in.
I would also like to point out the art style during that section resembles the art style of the movie in The Deathly Hallows part 1 during the scene where Hermione is explaining the story.
So in a way, that trial is following a double canon.
Hopefully this helps settle the confusion as in the video, they don’t go into detail about that part and I can see why. As It can be a very crontroversial subject.

My headcanon on how Hogwarts Legacy fits in HP canon: The exact history and details about the identity and choices made by the MC were lost or corrupted over time.
No one knows for sure what their house, name, gender, or exact actions were, except for things that are vastly agreed upon, like their ability to weild Ancient Magic, etc. Everything else is a rumour or uncertain reports. No one knows for sure if they actually learned or used Unforgivable Curses.
TL;DR: All the choices we can make in the game are historical rumours and the only things considered as facts are the things we can't change in the game.

I think it's canon for several reasons. We have several ancestral characters that we encounter there. Both main and secondary characters. There would be the Weasleys Matilda and Garreth, then Ominis Gaunt, Director Black, then a female character that we meet there in a side quest that becomes very well known later on. Then the Rookwoods Charles and Victor, who are ancestors of Augustus Rookwood, a Death Eater of Voldemort, and also someone who doesn't pay much attention but who actually goes on to become the Minister of Magic in Fantastic Beasts. He's one of the students at Hogwarts. He's also the only one of the students you see at Hogwarts as an NPC that has a name and he's also dressed differently than the other

When it comes the canon of the Harry Potter universe, it comes to one simple aspect; if it is labeled officially as 'Wizarding World'. Everything under that label is now official canon, even if some stories are better than others. The Wizarding World has swiftly grown far past JKR and her writing, and is now a franchise much more in the line of Star Wars. Star Wars was created by George Lucas, and while he penned the scripts to the first six films and directed multiple, he also, even before he sold the rights, had other creators adding to the world and lore of the universe he had created. Hogwarts Legacy falls perfectly into the canon (even if I'm sure there is a true canonical ending, ignoring the other possible choices that players might select while playing, in the way of many games) There will very likely be in the near future a host of other games, films, tv shows and even books made by other creators that all fall within the Wizarding World, and likely nearly all of that will be considered certified canon.

Rookwood fight alone would cement your character as arguably the most powerful magic user of all time. You’re fighting up to 7 dark wizards and a wizard comparable to a high ranking death eater all at one time while summoning insane lightning blasts and spells that turn people into dust. And you do it with relative ease. The finally story fight also sees you being incredibly powerful. Like my dude could look at Dumbledore, Grindlewald, and Voldy and match them all at the same time. The magic dash and ancient magic would definitely be more than a match for those three to take on. I give my wizard 7/10 vs Grindlewald, Dumbledore, and Voldy. Really, the author doesn't have much to do with anything. Take Jurassic Park series. A lot of the canon stuff really isn't "authentic" to the original material. Heck, there is a soft canon video game.

Extended canon is Everything outside hard canon that JK says is canon, soft canon is the extra media that is more maliable and is subject to being overwritten in the future. The line between extended canon and soft canon is sometimes blurry.
Just know that so long as it doesn't conflict with Hard Canon it should be treated as a temporary treat. 20 years from now there will be a different game that completely negates the concept of Ancient Magic and changes the story of the Goblin Rebellions. Recently while running past the library I heard one of the students say that none of Professor Blacks kids are old enough to be going to Hogwarts, if this is true then it's a small break in canon. According to the developers the game takes place sometime in the 1890's. This timeframe causes a problem with that statement because Professor Blacks eldest son Sirius Black II would have become a 1st year in 1888. If they made it late enough that Sirius had graduated, then we would have to move onto the question of why didn't they do cameo's for Dumbledore and Grindelwald who became 1st years in 1893.

i don't think you can get or even see the elder wand in hogwarts legacy, the only time it i've seen it appear in the game is in the story book section where it's not actually there and all the articles about getting the elder wand actually just say that you can pick elderwood as a color option when customizing your wand in the first act

8:06 you never obtain the elder wand. The part you have the elder wand is when your in a “dream-like” state. You never physically possess the elder wand in the game

As far as I'm concerned, the Cursed Child is fanfiction. I will never consider it canon. Hogwarts Legacy, however, I do consider canon, and I wanna mention that you only really "obtain" the Elder Wand in a story-based trial, so it might not be the real Wand, just a copy from the story.

  • @wztdb

Just on the elderwand - she actually states the trail is based a famous children’s story; confirming that it’s just an idea to showcase the trial not to actually hold or keep any of the hallows in the real world

Personally, I _despise_ "ancient" magic. Wizards are already a drop in the bucket, making another tier of "specialness" is just absurd.

I have never heard somebody calling "cursed child" glorified fan fiction. Its an attack on the Potter canon, and seems to be solely made to insult it.
I would not even say Rowling has to be involved to achive canon status. A real fan wants to be as near as possible to canon and can achive the same level, so yes to Hogwarts Legacy.
Cursed child should probably be called 'extremely losely based on Harry Potter'

A prime example of someone other than the author establishing canon would be Tolkien. After Professor Tolkien passed, his son Christopher undertook the task of going through mountains of notes, letters and other documentation, refining and compiling it and releasing what is arguably some of the best Middle Earth material available.
While JK may not have had direct input into Hogwarts Legacy, you can be certain her team of continuity checkers, lore nerds and other creatives acting on behalf of the author were consulted regularly to guide the story as it progressed. So it stands to reason that apart from having Jo's direct "ink" on the project, her interests were well-represented.
With regard to HL being canon, because of its branching narrative, they would likely have to pick one path and declare that to be the definitive or canonical tale within the wider scope of Wizarding World lore. The fact that we have Weasleys, Gaunts, and other families represented suggests an historical hermeneutic that weaves itself from established canon and mingles it with HL rather nicely.

Yup I agree with you, according to your description of true canon, I think Hogwarts Legacy should be considered canon, and I also think the cursed child is absolutely Rowlings work even tho she had co-writers, it still has her energy in it and I think it’s brilliant! Great video thanks for the info on the whole canon thing!

I like to think it’s possible as during this time period the history of the Elder Wand is kind of blurry so it would be amazing if our character did have it. I feel it would connect us more to the world in a way

It would be pretty hard for it to be canon. Who was this Ancient Magic wielding child? Boy or girl? What race? What house were they in? Did they use forbidden spells or not? Did they decide to keep this power secret and contained or did they absorb it and flaunt it for all to see? At least it is more lore accurate in one regard vs the films. As a Ravenclaw, the house colors are actually correct and the emblem is an eagle like it should be.

We don’t wield The Elder Wand in the game. The 3rd Keeper Trial of Niamh she says her trial was inspired by a story and when we begin the trial we are sucked into a book (that’s why it looks like a book come to life) and we used the Deathly Hallows to pass the trial.
But we only do so in an enchanted book we don’t use them in the over-world or actual game.
Besides that point this was a great video, keep it up.

  • @z0mb055
    @z0mb055 Год назад

The Deathly Hallows being in Hogwarts Legacy doesn't interrupt canon based on how theyre integrated. The entirety of the 3rd trial takes place in a trippy, illusionary world conjured through magic as a trick of the eye so as to engage in an altered world of the story of the Three Brothers & that, being altered to serve the purpose of being able to get through the trial. Something to compare to in an earlier game would be Batman's Tales in Wonderland part of the Mad Hatter DLC in Battank Forever. That said, the wielding of the Deathly Hallows is apart of said conjuration & therefore as the actual in universe ones werent held by our custom player character, the timeline remains in tack there.

Potential “loophole” for the elder wand, as used in many open ended/world games is often there is only one play though/line of quests etc etc which is classed as canon for that game. Could also be used to explain house choice, learning the dark arts etc etc
