I wanted to say THANK YOU! My 2016 TRD Pro remote start hasn't worked for about a year and I just gave up because I could not find any answers. Dealership wanted to charge me a lot of money to fix it so I just gave up on it. I never knew that switch existed and it fixed the issue IMMEDIATELY. I searched everywhere and nobody ever suggested this simple, but effective solution. I live in Chicago and this is a cold weather life-saver especially when you have a toddler. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Thank you so much for this video. I was able to restart my viper remote start without taking it to the shop and having it taken apart and charing me $100. That was what they told me they would do.
Hi, thank you for this video. My rav4 2015 year starts remotely (Avital 7111 L) but dies after 5 - 10 seconds and on the dash tpms light strats flashing. Then a car cranks three times but engine does not start . Then car blinks and does to sleep. I can oopen and start the engine with a key with no problem and no tpms light is on or flashing. What could be the issue?
Did you have an extra key made?? If so, they mustve knocked out the bypass programming..if nothing is or was touched, then the bypass went bad and you need a new one..or try to have someone reprogram it for you.
Question is there always gona be one of those buttons that look like an eraser I Ben looking for awhile and can’t find it I have the same fob as u as well on my 05 1500 ram
Answer. Lol. Unfortunately no. That could have been up to the installer. Luckily that truck is major easy to access where the starter would be. There are 2 screws or 3, hmm, havent touched one in a minute. But lets say 2 facing upward under the dash by the hood release. One toward each seam that separates the dash and panel you are removing. You can take that off and follow the wires to the main unit (brain) of the remote starter. From there, you can see whatsup and whats going on. Or if you wanna skip that, you can really get on your back and sorta have your head touching the brake pedal and look up into the guts of the dash. Same thing, follow them to a box with a ton of wires coming out. It should be a blue 2 pin connector. If its empty, the installer is an asshole and jipped you. Lmao. If its there, follow it from there and see where its hiding. If its empty, I have the link in the description for a new one.
I recently worked on 2014 Kia Sorento with an automate (DEI) Brand, Replaced the steering wheel lock housing. as soon as i connected the ground cable to the vehicles battery the vehicle started, with the keys in my pocket. The only wat to turn the vehicle back off is to crank the engine to the start position. Any ideas why this would be happening? Thanks.
Key start or push start?? And the older systems would do that. What happens is the remote start is probably set to see voltage when starting. So it thinks that the remote start shut off and it will start the car back up thinking it remote started, shut off, and then it tries to restart, thinking it shut off from remote start sequence. If it happened only one time and theres nothing moving forward. It was normal and dont worry about it. If you want to change it, run a wire to the fuel injectors and program the remote start to a tach signal, and then program the tach signal. That should remedy the voltage spike that it sees when battery terminal is removed and replaced. I think thats the correct answer with what you described. But I might need more details like does it happen all the time or just the one time? The crank the engine comment is theowing me off.
I have the 3 button version of this on my great aunt’s 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis. I’ve checked the toggle switch and it’s in the ON position. But the commands from the remote aren’t being recognized and for the life of me I cannot find that black button to reprogram. But thanks for the video so I know exactly what I am looking for. (This system worked perfectly not that long ago.)
Hey Travis. So back in the day, no one really left that black button in because it was for the installer to change the settings and such in the remote starter. People would mess things up and then come back and we would have to redo what they messed up. With that being said, it probably isn't in the vehicle. You might need to bring it to someone who would have that button. They do not need to give it to you, but just to reprogram the remote, BUT, those 3 buttons are just that, old. It might have taken a dump on you, it happens, its electronics. The good thing, is that the new ones are very similar in wiring, so installation should not be that bad if it were to come down to it. I would bring it to someone if you are scratching your head over it. You do not want to do any more damage in the worse case scenario.
2001 Toyota Corolla, have this exact remote start. Problem I’m having is that I double click to start it and it’ll act like it’s going to start but then won’t. It does it 2-3 times and then nothing. Any clue what could be happening?
Well the 2001 year did not have a chip key, so it should not be that. Could be a couple things still. Maybe someone ran a wire under the hood and the wire either broke or corroded because of a bad connection. But if it is not even cranking, then maybe the output went bad on the unit. So the remote start never sees the voltage change and it tries 3 times and then stops if there is no succession. I think a pro should look at it.
Nice video- what would cause the remote start to not work - follow the remote procedure then turn the ignition off , the engine stops? - where it shold stay on until i exit and arm?
Does it remote start without the key in ignition? What you are refering to is "pitstop". Your saying when the car is running, you pull up to a store and remote start, you turn ign off and the vehicle shuts down rather than stay running?? Thats called pitstop if I am understanding what your saying. If so, does it start without vehicle running??
@@richideates remote start, now the engine runs when ignition key removed, but shuts down very shortly after- get a message valet engine shutdown over voice unit
@itolond voice over? Sheesh. What kind and how old? I havent seen a voice unit in forever. But at least its telling you what the problem is. Its in valet. You will have to do some digging and see what kind of unit and or where the button is to get it out of valet. How long has this been goig on? Can you remember taking it somewhere like a mechanic or oil change place? I bet they did it and did not take it back out of valet. I get that at least 3 times a year.
im wondering if its what my issue is. 1 day it just stopped remote starting and i still havent gotten it going. i have a newer viper remote start sys in a Sequioa so i feel this video will help. ill try in the morning. good stuff
Thanks for the kind words. I am glad to help. And yes, I have found my new path and sticking to it. May god or the happy aliens bless you as well. As far as loving you back, that would be taking it too far, you havent helped me like I helped you. 🤪🤪🤪🤣🤣🤣.
@richideates Hey man! Would you know how to make a Solace A1 model return to work? I had my car battery changed yesterday and noticed today that my remote starter stopped working. Only the lock / unlock buttons are working now. Thanks.
If lock and unlock work, then it might be in valet. I looked up Solace A1 and it looks like a brand I never heard of. See if you can get to the brain in the car and see if there is a different part number or model number on the brain. That might narrow things down. Is it even trying to start? Flashing lights maybe after a few seconds of not attempting to start? Or even sit in the vehicle and it will start clicking. ?
@ hey thanks for answering! Lights flash 7 times but that’s about it. No clicking nor any other sound. I checked a manual online on valet / service mode, and tried to disable it in the remote’s antenna as instructed but no change!
@henriquemoreno heres something else I have experienced..some mechanics LOVE to unplug the installed switch and plug in their own..then put it in valet..OR..did you see a switch to turn it off?? See if you can get to the main brain to confirm my guessing about them unplugging the valet switch..
Ques. My new remote “remote starts/runs” runs for 10-15 sec then cuts engine off when “RX” flashes on remote screen. Then starts again for 10-15 sec. My old remote starts runs without cutting off Any way I can fix my new remote from cutting off engine?
Wait. What now? First off, what kind of remote is this? Or system is this? Rx usually means "Receive". So when you hear or see rx/tx. That means receive and transmit. Irrelevant to your problem though but might be. Give some more details, I never seen a remote say start/run. Is this a 2 way remote? With a screen of some sort? What is the part number on the back of it? For example 7164V. V is for viper, L is for Avital, P is for Python and so forth. Do you happen to know the model number of the system itself? What kind of vehicle is this? Give me some more details so I can try to help.
Thanks for the video. I have the same remove start (Viper 160XV) installed on my 2002 Toyota Camry when I bought it brand new. The remote start worked well until about 3 years ago. Sometimes the car's engine would remote start, but sometimes the engine would try to start. I could get in the car and start it with the key with no problems. I know it's not the car battery, because it was replaced recently. It's not the starter, because it was replaced recently. It's not the battery in the remote transmitters, because the batteries have also been replaced. Any ideas?
User error..🤣🤣🤣..but foreal..when it goes to crank, it never actually kicksover right? So heres something you can do. If it is consistant of just cranking and not starting. Put the key in the ignition and then try it. Dont turn the key, just stick it in there. Sounds to me like you have a chip key and the module or whatever they installed to tell the car that its not being stolen, is acting up. I see it all the time. Modules are old and there is a chip in the key. So what happens is that the computer shuts off the fuel circuit, allowing the car to crank but no fuel. Try that next time it happens. I bet that theres a green light in the cluster, I believe it looks like a key. When you go crank it, it turns on for a split second, buy if you leave the ignition on, it stays on solid. Let me know.
Hmm..sounds you might have a "brain" issue..I have seen that before with the older ones. You should, I could be wrong these days. But we used to be able to send them out and get something in exchange for those. You will have to find an authorized Viper dealer to inquire. You can call them and ask. 1-800-753-0800. They have a prompt for end users such as yourself. You can ask the steps needed to see if you can get it warrantied. Good luck
Very informative video! Thank you for explaining things. I have one of these wired in an 86 Mustang, it appears one of the prev. owners cut the wires to the toggle switch though. I guess now I know what the switch was for! Lol
Well the older systems did not use the push button for valet feature. Only for alarms they were used. The newer remote starters eliminated the toggle and use only the push button for both.
I have a 2000 Jeep cherokee with this system I think. I have the gray auto mate fobs. I think the fobs are going bad because they only work half the time. The fact that is still works sometimes tells me the fobs are worn out, like bad battery connections or something. I think I found that same remote you have online and I think I can program that to my system, since all the serial numbers are the same. I have the silver switch and long antenna just like you but never knew about a programming button. Guess I'll have to go button hunting tomorrow, its gotta be somewhere! Seems like I got the same exact system as you
There is a link in the description for a button that should work. The problem is that nowadays, every install should have it installed with the system. So having spares is tough because it should be installed at initial installation. I hope the person installed it at initial install. Back then it was just for programming, nowadays it does both, valet mode and programming. So it sorta has to be installed.
@@richideates Thank you for that link! Took a quick glance under the steering wheel to see if I could find a button but no luck. I'll see if I can go in depth this weekend but good to know I can install a fresh one. I suppose I should just find the module and look for a wire that leads to a button.
Yes..but if it were from the manufacturer..it would have a blue end to it and a grey and black wire joined together and follow that to the button..but if you look and see and empty cavity at the blue plug..then you never had it installed
Look real close by where the ribg is for the keychain part. You will see a small indent that looks like you can put a knife in and turn it..a sharp knife..CAREFULLY and pry sideways..it will snap it open..that or if you have nails..you can take your two nails and pry outward..either way it is just a snap together
If the antenna is by an ezpass or garage door opener. It will mess with the range. Thats all I could tell you..lol. but some of the older stuff wasnt that good with range. But there is so much wireless things these days. You could never really point your finger at any of it. Other than the two things I mentioned.
Hey Iv got a Very similar set up to the one you’ve got there doesn’t say a brand name on any of the modules but the button and the switch do absolutely nothing at any point in time I can’t get anything to recognize the key and the button in the switch don’t turn off the vehicle any suggestions
On the back of the remote, it should say a part number, if not, then you might have to take it to a shop to figure out what you have. From there, you will have to figure out what you want yo do. I know it sounds like the obvious, but at this point, it is.
Hi,I a had remote start installed by a pro, it work flawless for 2 season then my started die and I replaced for a new one, from there I began to have issues on my remote start it would try to start my car 2 to 3 times and would finally start after the 2nd or 3rd time, called the dealer who installed it for me, they reprogrammed to crank just a bit longer for it to start. I thought this was the issue then the next morning when I try to remote start my car the problem was still there, took it back to the dealer and the guy told me the started was the culprit (even though my car would manually start with no issues)… So 2 days ago I replace my started once again but for a good Denso brand and the problem is still there ( I have to add that the problem only happens in the morning, specially when we have cold weather, after the car has been use it will start within the first try) I’m so confuse now, I don’t know wth is the problem, I just hate having this issue, I don’t want wear out my new started so fast because of this issue. My remote start is an avital installed in a 2005 Crv. Please help :(
I am betting you that there is a wire under the hood and it is connected to the wrong wire. Hondas, especially the older ones, you could not go to the coil pack, you had to go to the fuel injector for getting a tach signal. Try this, in the morning when you KNOW it will not start by remote starter. Start it with the key and wait until it is running, then remote start it, wait again, for about 3 seconds, and then pull the key out. See if it stays running. If it does, then yes, there is something wrong with the remote starter. BUT, here is another way for you to answer my question. When it remote starts, look at the parking lights. It will flash one time confirming that you sent the signal. It will start, AFTER it starts, how long does it take to have the parking lights flash or come on steady. is it immediately after it starts, or is it 10 seconds after it starts. It is one or the other. So AFTER initial remote start sequence, how long does it take before the lights come on. 1 instantly after start, or about 10 seconds. Let me know, and I will have a better understanding of how they wired it up. Is the the truck a 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder?
@@richideates thank you so much for replying, funny that today morning it was about 45 degrees outside and the car start in the first try (I guess weather was warmer) but when is below 40 degrees it takes about 2 to 3 cycles for the car to start with the remote start. And to answer your question, yes every time I press the remote start button the signal light flashes one time after a second of pressing the button of my remote start, then it goes off, and then tries to start my car, and after the car has finally turn on it takes about 10 seconds for the signal lights to come on steady. Like I’ve said after I had this remote start professionally install it work great for 2 season in cold and hot weather, never had this issues, until my car starter went out and I replaced for a cheap one from Amazon. And Since then this issues started to show up and that’s the reason the installer got to the conclusion it was the car starter issue, but this past weekend I replaced my car starter for a good Denso brand and the problem is still there, very frustrating :(
So to keep adding to this issue. It seems this only happens in the winter on every morning when I first try to remote start the car. After the car has been use and if I try again to remote start it will start with no problem.
Tell them to connect the tach wire up and all of your problems will go away. It is a blue wire at the fusebox. Lt green 8 pin plug, pin 5. Solid Blue wire. Or they can run a wire to a fuel injector, not the coil. Its not the starter. They have it set for a preset time to crank, obviously that time isnt long enough in the cold. Which is why its not starting the first time around. In the cold, vehicles take longer to start. By running this wire and changing the way the remote starter sees to start. All of your problems will go away. Then the lights will come on immediately after start. Thats why I asked about the lights. Thats an indicator of how its wired up. In your case, not wired up. I hope this helped. Thanks for watching and reaching out. I am certain that that is your issue. It was never the starter. Although it doesnt hurt to have new products, especially in an older vehicle. :)
I bought my car awhile ago with python installed. Not sure if it has remote start. When I use the start button * my alarm goes off, do you think that means I don’t have remote start? It’s a python I don’t know anything about it
No man..its was just an alarm..that button was just a trigger for the alarm..sort of like hitting the red button on a factory remote..its just a trigger
@@richideates actually played with it and looked into it more. I’m trying to find if I have a reset switch somewhere under my dash. Also found that I can press my * button but if I hold it my alarm goes off. I tried looking for the wiring but no luck yet. I’m kinda searching for something that’s not there just that I hope is you know? Lmao
If it is a 3 button, then the only way you can activate the remote start IFFF you have it, is to hit lock and unlock at the same time. Try that, if it does not work, then no remote starter add on has been installed.
The older ones like I said were hit lock and unlock at the same time..whether it be a 3 or 4 button which I did not mention or know. But when it had the star button, that usually meant an alarm and if they added the remote start, to trigger it, it would be the same process.
Oh man. I think they are 2032s..if you look closely in the seem, you will see a tiny notch for where you can slide a tiny flathead or carefully a knife and twist. It will crack open, I dont believe they had a screw as well. Its easier if you take it off the ring
I have a Viper 160XL (2003). I have ripped off the lower dash and have access to all the wiring. I can not find a valet button or a on/off cut out switch.. Can you tell me what color/gauge wiring the valet button is? 18 or 10 gauge what number of pins are in the block harness? Anything to identify the right one. I have replaced the heater core and radio having this dash ripped apart. I do not recall ever finding a mystery button. I bought this unit at best buy and had it installed in 2003. There was never any mention of a valet button.
I answered your other comment but to answer the valet button. The older systems did not use it like the newer ones. It was primarily used to do programming. So smart installers never left them in. Customers would start hitting them and ruining what we had it set on. So the programming button may not be there at all. As far as the shutdown switch, that would prevent the starter from responding, but still lock and unlock with no remote start. What is the reasoning of finding this button or switch? Is it not cranking? Do ignitions even come on? Are the lights responding? What kind of vehicle? You gota answer these questions to really have someone dignose it. That or you just like tinkering with your car. Lol
Question for you. I have the viper 560XV installed on a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. The remote start works fine, my issue is with arming/disarming the alarm. It locks/ unlocks but there is no visual parking light flash. It does still have the audible chirp but no parking lights. I have checked all the fuses I can find(3) and they are all ok. If it’s in valet mode it wouldn’t make the audible chirp either would it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
White wire with a red fuse should be the one your looking for off the brain of the 560. Thats the output when you use any command. I have seen the outputs go bad over the years, that brain is an oldie but goodie. You might be able to have an authorized dealer send it out for warranty if you cant seem to figure out the problem. Oh and trace the white wire to the wire in the truck, make sure its a good connection
What about a valet model 552t on a 94 silverado i just bought a key fob for the system and i cant seem to figure out on how to program it (it doesnt have a switch just the the push button and i cant seem to find the light to indicate its connected also my horn doesnt work and it has a siren but i havent heard it but ive heard the system click a few times) i turn it on to ignition and hear a click and everything is under the dash except the siren its under the hood
Sorry, been sick. It should be door open, if it is an alarm. But it should be key on and leave it on, tap button one time and then hold it. If the horn or siren are hooked up or working, it will chirp indicating it is in programming. Then just hit the lock button on whichever new remote you have or want to program. It should chirp/ honk if it is hooked up and successful. When finished, it will chirp again, meaning it is exiting programming when done. I hope it works if you did not get it yet. This was a reply to Taylor Stephens. Youre truck and or method is still the same. Try it, even though the horn is not hooked up or siren broken, the method is still the same. It does not stop the remote being learned.
I have followed everyones reset procedures for my remote start and all i am getting now is a red light blinking 7 times. Any suggestions? I have a 2010 Mazda 6 standard key start. This system was working up to me needing to reprogram the keys to the car. Since then nothing but a red flashing light.
Wait?? Do you know what system you have?? 7 flashes on a newer type system is turbo timer mode..that usually is triggered after you hit the remote start mode..you need to bring me more details I think..does this happen when you remote start the car in the morning?? Give a little bit more details..if thats possible..a red light flashing shouldnt be associated with a remote start..unless its an alarm and remote start..
@@richideates it was installed years ago so I have lost the documentation for it and the module has no label. I'll look to see if the other box has a label on it later today. However if I was to make a guess based on the FlashLogic web site it is a FLCAN. The remote start buttons on the fobs don't do anything but light up the blue light on the fob.
Where is the red light flashing? Car instrument cluster or the bypass?? It sounds like when you got the keys reprogrammed, the module also needs to be reprogrammed.
Sorry for the delayed response. Life. Okay, so the flashing light is on the bypass box. HOWEVER, as I was cleaning up the garage I came across the owner's manual for my Viper remote start. The model is: 4105V.
So lets get something straight. Bypass box should be about the size of a pack of cigarettes. Remote start is 3 times the size, more like an old game boy console if you know how big that is or was. If you see red on the bypass, you need to count them and when. So for example, initial start, what does it do and how many times. Obviously the car wont start, then count again. But it sounds to me like you need to reprogram the module. How many working genuine keys do you have? Im pretty sure its on the Ford platform. What kind of bypass is it?
Hi, so I have the same remote for my 2003 Silverado. I’m trying to program a new remote to have as a spare and I’m looking for a little guidance. I’ve tried pushing and holding the valet button with the door open and everything ! Help please if you can ! Thank you!
Hey Andrew. So clear something up, what are you trying to reprogram? Push to starts work the same as a key, just dont step on the brake. If you press button once, it would go to accessory, second press, ignition, third press, off. Then it just repeats. Some cars turn on everything with one push. Same principle, just dont hit the brake.
Nah. I should make one though. You need to find the programming button. Key to the on position, tap button once, let go, then hold the button. Tap lock on new remote, release button, turn key off and try it. If horn was hooked up, it would beep a few times. When programmed, itll have a long beep to indicate fob has been programmed. Pretty simple, just have to find programming button.
I bought my car second hand and it came with a viper alarm system, probably an older one since I have no program button on the antenna. It came with two fobs, a two way one with the screen and an RPN 472 fob. However I can’t for the life of me program the second one. Any idea how? I have that black button under the dash but don’t know how many button presses it was originally programmed with. Thanks!
Well that is the right remote. Question in return, are you leaving the door open when you go and program the remote? It needs to be open for the alarm to know that you are you programming the new remote and not someone else with the door closed. Or something like that, who knows the reasoning lol, but have to have the door open and perform it within 15 seconds.
Hi Rich, I have a 2008 Honda Pilot. My DS4+ with the one way remote worked fine for about a year and a half then one morning it worked when I went to work. When leaving work later, it would go through the normal sequence of tail lights flash, doors unlock, then the unit attempts to start, it will go three crank attempts then disengage and lock the doors again. Battery is new, starter is new, the car turns on fine if I put my key in the ignition. Took it to the (Best Buy) installer and now its been a couple years but I think he said it may have been a fuse and they fixed it at the time. Went another 1.5 years and the same thing has happened again except now I don't have access to a store that installed it anymore. Do you have any recs? or if it is a fuse (its been so long I cant say for certain that that was the problem the first time)but, any idea where I would find the fuse in order to swap it out? The car is still recognizing the fob so it doesnt seem like a pairing issue but moreso an ignition sequence failure with the unit. Also the fob that the unit comes with is a pain in the ass, you think its worth getting the newer 2 way fobs with much further range?
No..I feel like you need a new unit my friend..DEI is good for failing and not recognizing the KEY procedure..not anything else..they love failing and I NEVER recommend them nor install them..just for that reason..I have used I datalink for that reason..reliable..decently priced and last a lot longer than most..you need to watch the key symbol in the cluster You need to see if that is the problem during remote start, not a "fuse" .the "fuse" scenario is 100 percent bullshit..you need to watch the car and see what happens before claiming.."fuse"..thats an excuse for the "inside guys"..
Find the black programming button. Door open and leave it open in case you have an alarm. If no alarm, you can leave it open or closed. Key on ignition, leave ignition on, tap black button once, let go, hit and hold, and then hit the lock button on new remote. If horn or siren is hooked up, it will respond with each command and then whistle when programmed. Let go, key off and try it.
I have the same exact remote start same controller everything (2004 Cadillac DeVille) it literally just worked 2 times tonight after not working for years after I took the ac to get recharged. It stopped working when I had the keys in my pocket and walked away the taillights and the headlamps started flashing fast like a cop car and completely stopped working after that any input?
That could be anything. I would have someone double check the ground on the unit. OR, see if it is in valet mode, but it would not flash like a cop car. It would have the same number every time, indicating what the problem is. So for example, the newer ones are 9 flashes indicating that it is in valet. They would would flash consecutively when using the remote starter feature. If it does it on lock or unlock, then you have some major stuff going on and I can not diag without more info.
I should have mentioned it doesn't unlock or lock I never know if it'll start with the remote either way I'm getting it checked out by the original installer this week.
It should still flash the lights telling you whats going on or if its getting the commands..those should be able to be sent out and warrantied..those were the oldie but goodies..but I cant vouche for whoever is sending it or if the warranty still stands..they must call
The 556u only has the extra key in it to be used for remote starting. You need to look at the other box and see what number it shows in the corner. It might be an 160xv from the generation, but or something like it.
Is there a dash mounted blue or red led? It should be an indicator for programming..process should be..key in on position and left on..locate black push button and have new remotes in hand..while key still on..tap button once..let go..and then hold..if horn or siren is hooked up..itll chirp but not needed to program..while holding button..tap the lock button on each remote separately one after the other not at the same time..turn key off and test..if its not working..some guys used to lock the brain from learning new remotes..if thats the case..need to be serviced by a professional..good luck
Very informative! Just picked up a used Nissan Skyline and found out it had remote start. However it takes about 2-3 cycles for it to start on its own. Is there a way to program the DEI to crank just a little bit longer for it to start up the first time?
Yes. But you need the correct part number. Will need to squeeze under the dash and grab the brain model number. Then find the programming manual for such unit. Which I might have, but need that number
Hello. I'm hoping you can help me. I have a 2009 Honda Fit with a Directed Electronics 543T Ext Alarm Atenna installed and a viper 473V remote configured to it. I bought the car like that. How do I find and use remote start?
If, IF, you have it, it would be holding down the aux button. It is meant for the trunk if you had it, but couldve been rewired for a remote start. Holding it for about 3-4 seconds would be the way it wouldve been installed. Thats from DEI tech support
Great video. Thanks. I have an older Viper with a two button remote. I'd like to program a new remote I've purchased and nothing seems to work from what I've found and tried, using the little black button. You seem to understand the old viper starters. Any idea on how to program a new remote??
Are you referring to that black rounded corner rectangular remote? If so, those are a hit or miss depending on what generation it is. Some were so old that you had to scratch the board on the inside. Some looked the same but were capable of having the newer style remote programmed to them. Check on the back of the remote and hopefully you can see what model number it is and do some homework online. If it is too worn out, you need to get to the brain under the dashboard.
I can not for the life of me find a valet button. There is not a remote on/off switch either. I have a 160XV brain box from 2003. I am trying to trace the wires out from the brain. Have my lower dash board off with access to all the wiring. Can you give me any ideas as to what color are the valet wires? Or number if pins in the block/what gauge wire the 18 or 10????.
How do you know its in valet? If my memory serves me correctly, it should still be a blue 2 pin plug thats on the side of the power plug. It should be a grey and black wire attached together. You can trace that if its there. If it is not, then you need to plug one in. As far as the switch shutdown. That depended on the installer, they couldve grounded the grey hood pin wire or the normal install calls for the black with a white trace as the neutral safety wire.
Is it even going to crank sequence? I would point my finger at the starter circuit first. Most alarms are easy to disable. Just pull the fuses and make sure the starter wire is put back together. That is what prevents the vehicle from being stolen. If the starter wire is cut, how can it start to be stolen? So just trace that back. If it is older toyoda, then it is a black wire white a white trace. Black/white wire at the steering column, or trace it down to where they caught it and cut it to put it back together. That allows you to have it to where there is no more alarm. I hope that helps.
Insert the key in ignition but do not turn it on. Remote start it. If it starts and stays running, all you need is a new bypass or a relay with the key that might be in the vehicle. The old school way is to take a key and hide it. Nowadays you pay to keep your key. If it does not start, could be a wire under the hood is not making good connection or professional help to see what the problem is. Either way you need help but at least you would know before they try to oversell. Its always best to get new, but depends on funds. A bypass would be at least half a whole new setup.
Interesting. Ok just did that. It started engine but then it stop the engine but the lights on dash stayed on then flashed a key symbol on the dash. If this makes sense.
Cant seem to find it on my 03 expedition any suggestions on where it might be I honestly do not know what kind of remote start it is all I know is my remote control is a clifford 904100 the controller stopped working but I found out the controller still send a signal so that is why I'm trynna figure out where the starter might be to see if it need to be replaced
Well what is it doing when you hit any of the buttons? Lock should flash the light one time, unlock, two times and remote start once, turn off and then stay on when actually started. BUT, if it is not starting then sit in the truck and see what is going on. Ford should have a little bulb on top of the dash that glows red and stays solid if the chip in the key is good. That year might be in the cluster with a lock/car icon, dont remember, but pretty sure its on the top of the dash. Either way, the same result, flash if no good chip, solid if it is good. IF, you press the remote start and it turns the ignitions on, then the red bulb starts flashing, then the bypass or however they bypassed it, the truck is not reading. Start there and let me know what you come up with. Start with the good key, as if your starting it normally to get an idea of what to look for.
Hi, I have the same viper remote and my car stopped responding to it a few months ago. The remote blinks green when I press it but nothing happens. I can't program either of my remotes to the car and the alarm goes off by itself at random times. Could I replace the batteries, the remote or just have the alarm removed?
Hey. So I have seen them go bad, rare but those are real old but were rock solid. It sounds to me like you need to have it wareantied. Not sure if theyre still warrantying those but I would really try to get it warrantied by a dealer or maybe even contact DEI and see if you can get it warrantied as a consumer. But if you have replaced the batteries and both remotes are not responding, then all signs point toward the unit. Good luck.

I have a old viper the one in video when I start I have to step on brake to take off all Light and then manually start with key if I don't do that the light will be on dashboard how to fix
My car will recieve command when u hit the start(i could tell because the parking light would blink and the radio will turn on) but it wont start, any clue?
Ok..so as far as I know, the canadian model santa fes have the chip. The problem you explained with the radio turning on, usually is a bypass problem. So as the remote start sequence begins, the radio first, then ignitions, then crank. BUT, the car wants to see the chip key if present, right before crank. So, to really see if you have a chip. Insert key in cylinder, do not turn on, just insert. Then remote start, see if it starts, if it does, you have a chip and bypass went bad or power to bypass got lost, maybe a blown fuse. If it still does not start, but radio and ignitions turn on, then there is a bigger problem and a professional should check it out. But to my knowledge, MOST common brands, will not even go to radio turning on, they will just click indicating that it is in valet. But I also do not know the brand, on the back of the remote, there is a p/n or something similar, what it is it, if he above did not help. Let me know
@@richideates we have a 98 Chrysler town and country but I think I figured it out. I started car with remote put my foot on brake than tried key and it worked. I think it's a safety feature so car doesnt get stolen? So far my son said key worked when he went to work.
Might be in valet. Just need to know which one it is to know how to get out if valet. Car should flash or click nine times indicating so. But the older ones did not. All depends on which one it is
I have an Auto Start system as in www.autostart.ca I’m guessing you’ve never heard of them but they go under the names, Auto Start, Polar Start, Command Start or Orbit.
Yes, I have heard of them. They are also owned by the same company as Viper and all the others (Directed). I would assume that the way to use and program them would be similar. I cant imagine that they would reconfigure a whole line of stuff when its the same manufacturer on the back end. I thought that they were international labeled ( i.e. Canada) . If you have the model number, I can double check on how to do it.
@@richideates Yeah so the unit number is AS170 www.directeddealers.com/manuals/OG/Autostart/1W-AM-5B-A-M-HD_AS-1780_ug_uni_h60s60_ME20120821.pdf So anyway I couldn’t get it to start I thought it was in valet mode because the remote worked and it locked and unlock but wouldn’t start. Anyway I think I’m figuring out what’s wrong, when I hit the start button, I have to turn the park lights on from the indicator stalk, then it’ll start. Also for some reason my running lights don’t come on unless I lock or unlock the car not to indicate it’s received a start signal from remote, either that or my bypass is screwed up.
@@richideates I recently did a code scan. Two codes came up that were anti theft for the engine + transmission. I thought it was something to do with the Remote start. I had cleared all of my codes and I was fixing other things. So when my automatic start stopped working after I cleared the codes, I figured I f***ed up hard. But in reality, I’m really dumb. I accidentally hit the switch when I was working on it, as mine is mounted on a panel next to my OBDII. But this cleared it up real quick. After spending $500 on parts to install them myself, this was a relief.
I am happy to be of help. Thanks for the comment.
Only been 18 months I haven't figured it out and totally working again! Thank you
Thats great to hear. Thanks for watching

@@richideates Ok, thanks a lot.
@@richideates thanks again for your reply. Unfortunately I don’t know how to reach to the main brain.
@henriquemoreno what kind of car is this??
Ques. My new remote “remote starts/runs” runs for 10-15 sec then cuts engine off when “RX” flashes on remote screen. Then starts again for 10-15 sec.
My old remote starts runs without cutting off
Any way I can fix my new remote from cutting off engine?
Wait.
@@richideates Sometimes it starts and sometimes it attempts to start.

Lol
Glad to be of assistance..thanks for watching
I've been trying to find that black button but can't. I only found the switch
Hi can you tell me how to replace the battery in this remote?
Look real close by where the ribg is for the keychain part. You will see a small indent that looks like you can put a knife in and turn it..a sharp knife..CAREFULLY and pry sideways..it will snap it open..that or if you have nails..you can take your two nails and pry outward..either way it is just a snap together
@@richideates thank you! It also seems like the range on this remote start is super short 😑
If the antenna is by an ezpass or garage door opener. It will mess with the range. Thats all I could tell you..lol. but some of the older stuff wasnt that good with range. But there is so much wireless things these days. You could never really point your finger at any of it. Other than the two things I mentioned.
How to reprogrammed the same viper remote starter light have go off when turn the key on I have to switch off and restart to get light off.
Sounds like it might be in valet.
Great video. Mine is not turning on. Turn switch push button and nothing. 😢
Whats it doing? Flashing lights? Do you happen to know the generation? Or date of manufacturer?

On the back of the remote, it should say a part number, if not, then you might have to take it to a shop to figure out what you have. From there, you will have to figure out what you want yo do. I know it sounds like the obvious, but at this point, it is.
After remote start, I have to step on brake
to clear dashboard light and manual start again how to fix please.
What kind of vehicle?
@@richideates it’s got 4 buttons. Lock, unlock, aux and the * button. Thanks for your reply!! I’m going to look into it more when I have time
The older ones like I said were hit lock and unlock at the same time..whether it be a 3 or 4 button which I did not mention or know. But when it had the star button, that usually meant an alarm and if they added the remote start, to trigger it, it would be the same process.
thanks for the video this really helped . can you tell me what type of replacement battery I will need? it is time to change mine.
Oh man. I think they are 2032s..if you look closely in the seem, you will see a tiny notch for where you can slide a tiny flathead or carefully a knife and twist. It will crack open, I dont believe they had a screw as well. Its easier if you take it off the ring
Mine when i changed the battery, wont set alarm on or off...😢
Does it even respond by locking or unlocking?

It does not stop the remote being learned.
hey did you convert your tundra sequoia into a 4wd?
Thank you!

If the horn or siren are hooked up or working, it will chirp indicating it is in programming. Then just hit the lock button on whichever new remote you have or want to program. My car has a push button start how do I reprogram the avital without a key ignition?
Hey Andrew. So clear something up, what are you trying to reprogram? Push to starts work the same as a key, just dont step on the brake. If you press button once, it would go to accessory, second press, ignition, third press, off. Then it just repeats. Some cars turn on everything with one push. Same principle, just dont hit the brake.
So you have a video on reprogramming the remote. Avital website downloads are inaccessible.
No..I feel like you need a new unit my friend..DEI is good for failing and not recognizing the KEY procedure..not anything else..they love failing and I NEVER recommend them nor install them..just for that reason..I have used I datalink for that reason..reliable..decently priced and last a lot longer than most..you need to watch the key symbol in the cluster
You need to see if that is the problem during remote start, not a "fuse"
.the "fuse" scenario is 100 percent bullshit..you need to watch the car and see what happens before claiming.."fuse"..thats an excuse for the "inside guys"..
How do I program a viper controller like urs on my Chevy astro
Hey man I just got a 2004 sequoia it has a viper box an the box with the key 556uw in it what remote do I need to buy an how do I program it thank you
The 556u only has the extra key in it to be used for remote starting. You need to look at the other box and see what number it shows in the corner. It might be an 160xv from the generation, but or something like it.
Yes 160xv
I just got new fobs yesterday can not get them to program
Is there a dash mounted blue or red led? It should be an indicator for programming..process should be..key in on position and left on..locate black push button and have new remotes in hand..while key still on..tap button once..let go..and then hold..if horn or siren is hooked up..itll chirp but not needed to program..while holding button..tap the lock button on each remote separately one after the other not at the same time..turn key off and test..if its not working..some guys used to lock the brain from learning new remotes..if thats the case..need to be serviced by a professional..good luck
@@richideates it had a blue light but now I can’t get any light
Very informative!
Just picked up a used Nissan Skyline and found out it had remote start. However it takes about 2-3 cycles for it to start on its own.
Is there a way to program the DEI to crank just a little bit longer for it to start up the first time?
Yes. But you need the correct part number. Will need to squeeze under the dash and grab the brain model number. Then find the programming manual for such unit. Which I might have, but need that number
Inside your house yeah, it’s too cold
My key won’t turn on the car and I can’t figure out why. I have a 94 Toyota Land Cruiser.
Hmm..thats tough..I am only assuming you dont have a chip key..that might lead to an alarm that is preventing starting..do you have an alarm??
@@richideates Yes, I have the exact alarm that you have in this video
Is it even going to crank sequence? I would point my finger at the starter circuit first. Most alarms are easy to disable. Just pull the fuses and make sure the starter wire is put back together. That is what prevents the vehicle from being stolen. If the starter wire is cut, how can it start to be stolen? So just trace that back. If it is older toyoda, then it is a black wire white a white trace. Black/white wire at the steering column, or trace it down to where they caught it and cut it to put it back together. That allows you to have it to where there is no more alarm. I hope that helps.
Hi I have an Automate starter. But it seemingly fails. Like the engine will start. Then it turns off.
What kind of vehicle?
Depends on the car
2007 Honda CrV
Thanks in advance
Mine turns over but doesn’t start. 2000 silverado
Start the truck with the key. Remote start it..wait a few seconds and turn the key "off" and see if the truck stays running..
Good luck.

Light and then manually start with key if I don't do that the light will be on dashboard how to fix
Good info Rich. Thanks!
My car will recieve command when u hit the start(i could tell because the parking light would blink and the radio will turn on) but it wont start, any clue?
What kind of car and what year?
I have a 2008 hyundai santa fe. I feel like its on vallet mode but i dont know how to escape from it.
Let me know
Mine one when I switch it to on it cranks over and over
What kind of car? Yr?
My car starts and shut off any clue?
What kind of car is it and what year? It sounds like a bypass issue.
And how long before it shuts off??

Might be in valet. Just need to know which one it is to know how to get out if valet. Car should flash or click nine times indicating so. But the older ones did not. All depends on which one it is
You sure about that ? Kill switch . Heard thiefs can disconnect it. You have it in a spot that they can find.
Your views
I don't hear clicks
Some of the older ones had led's on the brain or somewhere else that will go solid or shut off when in and out of valet
Got any examples of this with the Auto Start units?? I love how you say dint forget your mask haha that’s how I knew this was made recently.
Right..lol..what do you mean about other auto start units? What system do you have?
I have an Auto Start system as in www.autostart.ca I’m guessing you’ve never heard of them but they go under the names, Auto Start, Polar Start, Command Start or Orbit.
Yes, I have heard of them. They are also owned by the same company as Viper and all the others (Directed). I would assume that the way to use and program them would be similar. I cant imagine that they would reconfigure a whole line of stuff when its the same manufacturer on the back end. I thought that they were international labeled ( i.e. Canada) . If you have the model number, I can double check on how to do it.
@@richideates Yeah so the unit number is AS170 www.directeddealers.com/manuals/OG/Autostart/1W-AM-5B-A-M-HD_AS-1780_ug_uni_h60s60_ME20120821.pdf
So anyway I couldn’t get it to start I thought it was in valet mode because the remote worked and it locked and unlock but wouldn’t start.
What kind of vehicle is this? Is it a newer Ford? Yr? Make? Model?
Huh. So that’s what that switch is for
Depends on which switch, yes, its aftermarket, but some alarms also used both styles. But yes, you finally figured it out. Lol. Thanks for watching
Ha, thats funny. We all have run into terrible coincidental situations. Glad I could help.
