The stereotyping of scooters for use in town is so off the mark. I am a big bike rider and tour every year on big bikes until my touring buddy had a life changing crash on his zzr1400. He lost use of his left leg and could only ride a step through vespa. So i bought a bmw c400gt and we did a tour from north wales to norway and it was the most enjoyable tour i have ever done. Relaxing, still able to have fun on twisties, cruised at 70-75mpg on fast roads, 80mpg, found we stopped more at view points as easier to jump on and off. Super comfortable, great storage, bmw integrated satnav is brilliant. So i just wish people would stop calling maxi scooters town machines! Sorry, hit a nerve, love your channel and normally in tune with you.
Love my c400 gt. I daily ride it nearly 30,000kms hasn't missed a beat.
Yes I completely get that and should have made that point - I try and review a bike in it’s given environment and in the main scooters are intended as urban transport of course…
I rarely take big bike out now. So relaxing on scooter and weather protection is great this time of year, and heated seat and grips make recent cold weather rideable. Off to picos (spain) in may on it. Made me realise that biking isnt all about hp, the enjoyment is about being outdoors in the elements, on windy roads, cafe stops, scenery, mateship. Thanks to TMF for doing a scooter review even if he didnt talk up the potential beyond town riding.
So true! They’re great for touring. Combo of great weather protection, ease and comfort ticks lots of boxes
Looks great to me
As others have said while great in town, you can happily tour on a Tmax or any of the big maxi scooters. For me, belt drive, under seat storage and CVT make the maxi scooter a more practical touring machine than the majority of regular motorcycles.
Agreed!
After 45 years on motorcycles of all sizes and types, spine problems made getting on and off motorcycles an awkward and painful act. So I was "forced" to buy a Honda SH300i (pizza delivery) style scooter. Took a few miles to get used to, but now I wonder why didn't I get one sooner. Light (big bonus with a bad back), cheap to insure, 90+ mpg and can sit at 70mph with the wife on the back with plenty left in reserve. CVT transmission is brilliant on tight twisty roads. Around town or long trips it's surprisingly capable.
This could have been written by me! After a accident with me GSA 1150, I bought a SH300i. And I love it!
I think you’ve undersold it Andy, this bike also excels in the non-urban environment. It’s a shame it’s so expensive.
Yes you are of course dead right - I should have shown it out on faster roads too....
I've travelled in the autumn of 2022 from the UK to Cyprus on Vespa GTS 300 and it has been fantastic.
I am heading off now through Turkey, Georgia and Russia to Azerbaijan.
Any bike can do anything and don't get sucked into the advertising hype of the manufacturers.
Bingo !
Passed my bike test in 1981 and ridden lots of different bikes but only last month rode my first scooter a Honda Adv 350 don’t know why it took me so long. It was excellent so practical and so easy to ride.
Thanks for sharing - fun aren't they!
These larger high end scooters will do it all believe me. High speed cruising, tour beautifully, handle and stop well oh and yes also commute….. thanks for the review Mr TMF. I believe Mark Pulling also reviewed this model some months back so worth watching also if your interested in such.
Well said! ....and my pleasure!
Had a T-Max for four years, and they are absolutely fantastic. Go like the clappers, very comfortable and handle superbly. I would buy another in a heartbeat.
Good to know!
Own a burgman 400, limited edition. Now with 14,000 miles, 2010 model. Got shot of my Yamaha tracer, as I never ever get num bum on my burgman, and much prefer an automatic, than gears. Now I’ve got scooters in my blood, and I do fancy a tmax 560, but wandering if I’ll make the correct move, as the burgman is at a fraction of the price. But hey, you only get one life. Watch this space.🥳🏴
Agree with the previous comment reference a town scooter....whilst it is good in town if you are a solo rider they make awesome touring bikes.....Heated seat on,screen fully up,cruise control on at 80 ISH.....tunes in the ear.....bliss.....A hugely underrated automatic motorcycle 🙏
Normally ride a gs 1200 but bought a 2007 Honda silver wing to experience a different ride. Really impressed with it. The 600cc engine is very peppy and going on major roads or motorways is no problem. I still hold onto my GS but maxi scooters have their place.
I ran 3 tmax models in a row from about 2012-2020, and did about 75,000km over that time. I have had many bikes and scooters, even a diavel. The tmax was my transport for everything during that time, and it is the best bike I have owned of them all. Even wen I had a few bikes, the one I would choose to ride was tmax. The only gripe I had, it just needs a wee bit more power, maybe a 650-750 motor.
Thanks for that! Appreciate you stopping by!
Great review thanks TMF. I discovered the TMax about 10 years ago and I have never been without one since. I now have the grey TechMax like your test bike. I have ridden her from the UK down to Italy in 2 days and wowowow she is an amazing bike. Fast, comfortable and fairly good on fuel too JUST as much fun as my FJR1300 really and much less heavy when you push her on or off the centrestand or into a parking space. This one replaced a 530DX which was also very good but the TechMax handles even better and the electronics are fantastic!!
Yes, very expensive but I think that you get what you pay for.
There are two types of people in this world, those that like TMF and those that are yet to discover him!
Another great video on a type of bike that I never considered before. Thank you.
I can assure you there is a third category!!!
I have a Honda Forza 350 for nearly 2 years. Great for a 4 mile trip to the train station. And great for a 65 mile commute into London on dual carriage ways and motor ways. Maxi Scooters are great
I agree with others. Definitely not just for town, it’d be great to have a review on rural/open roads 🛵
Yes - should have done that, my bad….
I like the idea of the centre stand being locked into place when you move away from it, good security feature to stop people wheeling it away.
Yes I agree…
Living in London I would be worried all the time owing a t max. These bike thief’s are after this beautiful machine. I ride an xmax 300 instead. Thank you for the review!
Back in 2016, I rode my 110cc Yamaha scooter for over 650km in a single day (taking breaks at intervals), and I am so glad I did so, took my mind off things.
Only felt the need for more power on empty highway stretches, where couldn't go beyond 80km/h.
The Yamaha being reviewed now is way more powerful and advanced with adequate wind protection to be restricted for city rides imho.
Well said! - sadly I didn't have a chance to do one of my "in depth" reviews on the bike - maybe I should ask Yamaha if I can have another go and try it in a few other scenarios
I have ridden bikes for over 30 years and have a lot of time for scooters. Easy to ride, practical and plenty of storage. Only thing that stops me from owning one is their attraction to thieves. I owned a PCX 125 along with my Shadow 1100, which I used for day to day commuting. In just over 12 months there were 3 attempts made to steal it before it was taken from me at traffic lights. That experience has put me off owning a scooter again.
Given the many comments about the capabilities of the tmax (and other larger scooters) maybe a part two out of town episode? With it's specification and price most buyers would want to do a lot more with it.
Yes sadly I recorded this last summer (hence the trees being in full leaf) and didn't have a chance to do one of my "in depth" reviews on it - maybe I should ask Yamaha if I can have another go!
@@TheMissendenFlyer That would be great if you get the chance, as I get older I find the thought of one quite attractive. Neglected to say I enjoyed the vid!
Thanks for the review! as a late starter (I'm 40 now and started riding at 38) I don't think I will move out the scooter segment, and finding neat, serious reviews like this is hard because most bike reviewers will only review vespas in a city and won't take it seriously. Now do a scooter touring video.
38 isn’t late . I started at 62 and love my Honda forza 350, enjoy your scooter.
I just started. I'm 59 🎉
Good review. Just to augment some of the other comments about the bikes natural habitat. I have been the owner of a Burgman 650 for 15 years. All tricked out for touring with 52litre sidecases, top box and of course the standard 52 litre under seat storage. All I have ever done on the bike is tour, U.K. and Europe - two up, mostly one week tours but often two weekers (hence maxing out storage). A few years back I had a mid life crisis and seriously considered swapping horses to a Gold Wing, after much agonising my head (rather than my heart) ruled that out - capital cost, less storage and no real world advantage in terms of performance (for me) as I exclusively travel or the roads less travelled and avoid motorways and dual carriageways wherever possible. So yes scooters and maxi scooters are great urban warriors but a maxi scooter has great touring potential that should not be prejudicially dismissed.😀👍
Yes agreed 100% - I should have made that clear...
Alongside the "proper" bikes I've got a 2004 500cc Tmax which supplements the car for shopping trips in the summer, with a top box and the underseat storage its so practical, keeps the worst of the weather off you and is always free and easy to park vs the car :) Another great review but would be great to see you stretch the legs of this model out of town, would love to upgrade mine but 12 grand is a lot of money for a big scoot!!
Nice to see these reviewed Andy. Whenever I'm in Europe, and see so many of these, I always ponder why they arent as popular here in UK... But then I don't have one either!!
I think it’s primarily down to stigma and then our weather….
I love a good scooter. My first powered 2 wheel vehicle was a scooter. Love it. So much fun and so easy to ride.
The 2022 TMax blurs the lines in the scooters v motorcycles argument. I've just bought one after having a BMW K1600 and wouldn't go back. It has all the toys you need and is much easier to handle and dare I say it more comfortable. It's natural home is not the urban environment though Andy, it's all roads. This thing will tour, scratch and commute with equal aplomb. Thanks for a great video as usual.
I am 66 in a few months, and before I committed to buy a Yamaha TMAX tech Max 560, ... in August 2020 I was going to buy a Yamaha fjr1300, however I was basically Persuaded by a good friend, who had part exchanged his Yamaha tracer 900 for a Yamaha TMAX tech Max 560,
He is an ex motorcycle trainer, and he also Owned an FJR 1300,which he said was a great bike but a bit on the heavy side.....( and there are days when you just don't feel like it)lol. he told me straight ..that I had no idea just how brilliant the TMAX was, I didn't believe it myself, until I had a go,
And I thanked him for pointing me in the right direction, these bikes/ maxi scooters are NOT just for riding around town, it is a fantastic capable machine, a lovely pillion seat for my wife, and backrest as I have top box, so the wife regularly comes with me on trips, and loves it...the TMAX not only has the agility, economy, comfortability, practicality, filterability,Toysability, lol
It also has the looks, and great weather protection it sticks to the road like glue, and is a great bike for touring ..mine is a 2020 model, I've already done 36,000 miles on it, no problem whatsoever, I use the motorway 6 times a week, and I can easily get up to 100 mph just on the slip road before I have even joined the motorway!, i have taking it to its top speed of 115 mph, but it certainly loves cruising at 90, for very long periods,it does 0 to 60 in under 5 seconds, a very nice place to sit and stretch your legs and relax, and enjoy the ride, like my friend told me..... I have no idea!!... many motorcyclists out there scorn scooters, but I can tell you, this is more like a motorcycle.... and just like I was!.... they have ....no idea!.Check. Cager on two wheels... and Mark Pulling, they also do a cracking review on this bike... personally I haven't looked back,.. and the only other bike I would fancy buying, is a Honda Goldwing... great review Andy,👌🏽but you did miss out on taking it on the Open Roads!👍🏽😊💙 it really is a refined, and linear bit of kit.
Yes my bad - should have shown it on the motorway for sure....sorry!
I changed from a bike to a Honda xadv and can't be more pleased that I did, its an awesome bit of kit 😃👍🏻
Normally tide a 1200rtlc been every where from the nordkap to southern Italy etc.
I recently bought a 21 plate 350 Honda forza, is absolutely brilliant 80/90 mpg will cruise at 70/80 mph and 2 up barely affects it and its very comfortable. Love it.
Hi Mark I’m about to choose between used T Max or new Forza 350, any advice, thanks in advance.
My wife had the quarter pounder burgman 400 for ages and would constantly make fun of how much cheaper it was back then to the super low. Fast forward to now and the Tmax is the only big scooter around. For the hefty price they still sell well with the ubiquitous apartment dwellers who have dropped their cars for an all purpose machine. They are not small and have presence. I would have one if I could afford it myself.
Apartment dweller? Leave it parked in the road overnight and it'll vanish in a week.
@@TomBartram-b1cwe have underground secure parking like in the shopping mall. I have two spaces I paid for the extra space when I purchased the apartment. I previously owned a big house with a big garage and yard but as I got older and capacity decreased I decided to move and downsize
@@Simon-RucknRideAUD Prob should mention we don't like in the UK. Australia and police have firearms, and we have lots of this that can kill you. People don't generally steel scooters here. Most apartment building here have security, a offices, gym, pool, cafe kind of big. Ours is 170 floors (if you include 4 levels in the basement) Because the cost of housing is so hight every one just gets 1 bedroom apartments
After riding 1000s and 600s for years I finally realised how far scooters had moved on and bought an Xmax 400. That was promptly stolen (😡) so I replaced it with an Forza 300 which is a fantastic machine. Loads of storage (more than the Tmax), so relaxing to ride and I'm currently getting nearly 90 MPG out of it. Although I have taken it on a 200 mile day trip, more power on motorways and cruise control would be really helpful on longer trips so I have been looking really closely at the TMAX. As others have said it's a real shame this review didn't include bigger roads - a rare omission from your usual excellent vids Mr. flyer. One final thing that others don't seem to mentioned here and which I find surprising is that unlike standard bikes, there is no messing around on your knees with oily chains or a scotoiler with a scooter! That is a massive benefit as far as I'm concerned. Bizarrely Honda have stuck a chain on their Forza 750 which is the main reason I wouldn't buy it - it's quite a bit cheaper than the Tmax and has more power. Thanks for the video anyway and do another one on bigger roads please :-)
Yes many have asked for the same - next time!
Hi Andy, firstly enjoyed the review, yes the T max isn't cheap, but what a good machine, never ever considered a scooter with what I perceive as balance issues with smallish wheels. But watching you it handled perfectly on our pothole strewn roads, with all the equipment of a high spec motorcycle I can certainly see the attraction, and as you so rightly say you can tour on any bike, and the T max being no exception from that rule. Thank you for a very eye opening review.
Glad you enjoyed it Stephen!
I do love a scooter 🤩 all the versatility and performance you need, or maybe I'm getting old!! Thanks for the excellent review Andy 👍
My pleasure!
That big scooter seems like a really practical choice for older rider because it is not super heavy plus it has a very low center of gravity. It also has more than enough power to cruise at higher speeds.
Never had a scoot be interested how it performed with Mrs Flyer excellent review as always thank you!
My pleasure!
A a great pity that stigmatization against scooters puts many off, especially here in North America. This Yamaha has an impressive spec and array of tech features only seen on the most expensive bikes. The braking spec is quite remarkable. Great review!
Yes I agree….
Very nice! I'm so glad you did a large scooter review. I am considering a bike like this. They look comfortable and fun to ride. Too bad you didn't take it through some twisties and countryside roads just see more in depth on how the bike handles and performs. I really like this bike so far. I hope you can do a honda silver wing review if you haven't done so already. Thank you. 🤙
Yes sadly I recorded this last summer (hence the trees being in full leaf) and didn't have a chance to do one of my "in depth" reviews on it - maybe I should ask Yamaha if I can have another go and try it on faster roads, touring, etc!
Check out Mark Pullings review if your interested in one of these.
The Honda Forza 750 is a worthy alternative
Thank you for the review. Just sold my GS1250. Before the GS I had a BMW GT400. Really good for commuting and Touring (Norway, West Coast) I’am looking forward to the Cruise control, for me it’s an huge advantage.
I’ve ridden a Piaggio 350 and a 150cc scooter and I loved them. Then I had a 2006 Harley Softail and now a 2019 Harley Street Glide. So I’m a Harley girl, but I absolutely loved my scooters💕
The top speed will be way higher than 100 mph. I owned a T-Max 500 for some years and I, being 6 foot 4 tall and weighing in at a whopping 120 kg, could comfortably cruise at 100 mph with it. Top speed? Unknown, as the speedometer "only" reached 180 kph and the T-Max 500 effortlessly pushed way past that.
As to the balancing of the engine, the T-Max has the two pistons mounted parallel to each other on the same crankshaft tap, so they move exactly the same. The balance comes from a huge counterbalance "dummy" piston, that's mounted on an opposing crankshaft tap, therefore moving at 180 degrees offset of the two pistons, eliminating their momentum almost completely.
Scooters are the killer transport app! Cheap running costs, park anywhere, carry anything, etc. I was fortunate to own a TMax 530 a few years ago and loved riding it every chance I had (everyday in fact).
But your review does not serve justice! Yamaha threw a lot of tech and innovation that you neglected to highlight. When it was first introduced, it quickly gained attention and market share of the maxi-scooter segment. Today, few ppl are willing to spend $20k on a ‘scooter’, especially in the USA, so no more T Max 560s or X-ADV 750, for that matter, are available here.
Firstly, technically the T Max 560 is a 3 cyl engine, 2 combustion cylinders (linked; both up/down in synchronous order) and a third opposing balancing cylinder that does double-duty as an oil pump. This engine alone is a feat of engineering and found on no other machines. It rips like a 2 stroke in the higher revs and pulls away from stops faster then many motorcycles. Secondly, the T Max uses two different clutch systems: a wet plate internal clutch and a CVT scooter clutch. This gives the bike predicable engagement (notice the subtle hash mark at 2000 rpms) that other scooters equipped with just the CV transmissions do not have. There are YT videos of ppl popping wheelies with T Maxs because of the twin clutch set up (not to be confused with Honda’s magical dual clutch transmission/DCT). This also allows the use of a drive belt (instead of a chain) that reduces noise, eliminates the needs of fussy maintenance (oily chains sling oil onto the pavement and the machine), and has a long service-life (T Max forums report 50 to 75,000 mile replacement interval).
Lastly, the T Max frame is an aluminum molded box girder that does not twist, flex, bend, or give under load in any direction. In other words, it is incredibly stiff and allows the T Max to feel securely planted when riding rough roads under heavy loads. No other bikes are built like it. The T Max makes the BMW GT650 feel like a cheap asian knock-off!
Legendary king of scooters! I would own it again, but now I’m in love with my Honda NM4.
But if Yamaha releases a T-Max 560 ADV-spec in the States, I will be among the first in line to obtain one!
Thanks for that - a fascinating read!
I'm always interested in these modern scooters, having commuted to work on 250cc and 600cc scooters for several years. Honestly the smaller (single-cylinder 250cc) scooter was the more convenient in town, with a better power/weight ratio for cutting through traffic or getting away at the lights, and being much lighter for wheeling around or squeezing into parking spaces. There was no difference between them in storage capacity. I expect that you'll be doing a follow-up review including some out-of-town riding: that is when it's worth having the larger bike, which is more than capable of long inter-city trips in comfort and at speed.
Yes I'd love to do an in-depth review at some point - and agree, the small cap scooters are excellent in town....
One thing I've noticed when riding my T max not many other bikers nod or wave, then again I'm used to that I had a BMW GS before 😅😅
The BMW 3 of Tel Aviv 😎 All proper lads got them there 😆
I’ve got a zx6r and a aprilia SR200 gt and honestly love the scooter it’s easy to ride quick enough round town and commute I’m thinking of selling both next year and getting a bigger scooter 👍
Just bought a 2018 Kymco AK 550, many plans for weekends away and trips abroad. I've liked the look of maxi scooters for a long time and after a disappointing 2 years with a retro 900 I committed to one. I've only had it two weeks and not done many miles yet but I've jumped on it for quick blasts out more than any other bike for a long time. Loving riding again !
Glad to hear that!
Great wrok. I'm riding the AK 550's little cousin, the Downtown 300 (I've actually got the Kawasaki J300, but it's the same machine basically). I've loved every minute of riding it, but I can't wait to upgrade. I would like the Tmax but it's just due to the price of them I'll probably get an AK 550. While the 300 is great, I do want the bit more power. I'm pushing 60,000 km on the J300 and it runs like new still. Never misses a beat. I'll run it to 80,000 km, assuming it continues to be trouble free, and then upgrade.
Always liked the T max for a big scooter and wouldn't mind one at all. Good review Andy.
Bought one a month ago to replace a Forza 350. Superb machine and is a scooter in name only, handles like a bike with decent performance. No way is this a town machine, take it out on fast and/or twisty roads and it is excellent. Will be doing touring on mine. The T mode is Touring by the way, Sport mode has more throttle response and acceleration, but T mode great for cruising. Its worthy of a longer review if you can 👍
Couldn't agree more!
I too have a Forza 350 and have my sights on one of these. How do they compare away from the lights and filtering?
@@kevinperree7764 quicker away from lights and keeps going. Lot more go than the Forza. Filtering is ok, it is a tad wider, but not significant. There is more weight, but you only notice at a standstill, but ok. Really nice step up from the Forza, which was great, but Tmax different class 👍
Price point forza 350 eat this one easy. No brain buy 2x
First timer here....liked the review, love the Tmax
Welcome along...
Cruise control is the big one for me, Scooters are awesome and you can tour on them, so cruise is a great thing.
I totally agree!
I wanted to add that my former employer now has a small fleet of these, they dropped all the fleet cars, cheaper to run, don’t pay parking charges, road tolls I was informed can hold a backpack with iPad mini and full social worker kit including open face helmet. 😮
Cool!
Yes I noticed this the other day, in town all either EV Cards or Scooters, I think the old days of leasing a fleet kind of crap now. Plus you don't park parking or tolls on a scooter, a co worker the other went to Sydney for a work meetings and said it cost him $35 in parking and toll charges to use the tunnels going from office to office. (insane)
...many forget to mention...no constantly using gear lever & clutch at low speeds in town. Fab
its a TMF Scooter ...Too Much Fun 😃
Neevsey from MCN says its His
Favourite Bike..perhaps you should
Have Taken The T Max out at

Nice review. I haven't quite come to terms with scooters yet tbh but as far as they go, this is clearly a very nice one. Never say never I guess.
Great review - I was worried watching this as I ended up purchasing the Xmax 300 after you did your video on that years ago…
I wonder whether a bike this big and powerful is really best suited in town? My Xmax 300 feels more than you need in town, and feels better suited to A and B roads - I wonder if the T-Max is better for motorways/ munching miles - given its speed, comfort, storage and cruise control?
I had a 2012 T-Max 530. An outstanding bike, whether you call it a scooter or motorcycle. It replaced a 2017 Honda CB 500F. The T-Max is a much better motorcycle, in every way, than the CB500. I'd absolutely have another if they were still sold in Canada. Yes, they are expensive, but they are superb bikes. And one minor curiosity; of all the bikes I've had, this was the only one my wife felt comfortable on. (Yes, a very minor point).
Thanks for the ride. Nice to see the new T-Max on the road.
Thanks for watching and for stopping by!
You and I both love our Gold Wing DCTs and I really wish that this particular scooter to come to the United States but there's no plans for that ever happen and that makes me sad
another great view
happy you liked it
best to you, always
Cheers Greg!
I've been riding bikes now for 45 year's recently traded one 1 of my bike's, Ducati 1100 Scrambler Special for the younger brother of that Scoot, the X Max 300. I absolutely love it, it has more space under the seat than the Tmax, 45 litres, so two full face helmets. And will go,with a lump like me on it 120kmh! (10klm's over the national limit.) Still getting 2.5liters to 100klms, and a range of 550ish klms. 😃 Still like my big Super Tenere for longer fast rides with my ride group, but the Xmax 300 will do all the same stuff almost as well. That TMax though if it wasn't so expensive I'd trade the Tenere for it, may still do that if a good second hand one comes up. 🥰
Yes they are fun aren’t they…we miss out in this country because we’re pre programmed to think scooters aren’t somehow real motorbikes….in Mediterranean countries they’re considered cool!
@@TheMissendenFlyer yea there not cool here either, the Aussies I ride with just looked, me strangely, puzzled that I would bye one, let alone of traded a Ducati. 😐😂
Don't think the US has any scooter culture either.....strange, we in the wetern world (bar the Meds) are missing out!
Thanks, thoroughly enjoyed your review of the bike, I was eager to hear more until you mentioned the price! at that point my interest diminished a tad, Thoroughly appreciate it has all the bells and whistles.
Thanks for an excellent quick insight to this lovely package.
My pleasure as ever Andrew!
I had the T Max 500 a few years ago, it was a fantastic scooter and gave a very enjoyable ride in the country twisties as well. It was fast out on the road. I once caught up with a group of bikers and overtook them, only to be overtaken by one of them and he stopped further on, just to check that they had indeed been overtaken by a scooter !!
Great stuff!
No problem riding this scooter over from Weymouth to Cologne in Germany. It’s perfectly OK for touring, and indeed I prefer it to a Goldwing any day.
Fair enough! ….and yes great for touring as well as urban work for sure…
I rode a Honda Silver wing 650 for a while. Man was it ever handy. Carry a load and roll on down the highway in comfort. Not bad.
I would say that a 560 twin auto engine would be ideal for almost any type of travelling not just town commuting. A 50/125 is perfect for town. Surely a bike Like this is perfect for highway cruising and long distance
Another quality review, thank you Andy. I'd be keen, as would many I think, if you could find a Honda ADV350 to review...
I'm in the process of buying its smaller brother the Xmax 300, can't wait!
Cool!
I have a techmax 560. Some important thing that you might want to try/consider. 1. Two up at low speed, the bike is, in my opinion, is very unstable. I suspect too much weight over too small a wheel diameter. 2. Unless you are well over six feet in height you seriously run the risk of dropping the bike whilst trying to heave it on to the centre stand. Or even getting your feet flat on the floor. I am 5’ 11” and am on tiptoes most of the time. Never the less a great bike!
I was recently in Barcelona, there was a bucket of these. I can see the attraction for city transport.
My 21 plate X-ADV is the best bike I've ever owned.
Average 77mpg and 10bhp more than the T-Max. Brilliant, simply brilliant.
I cannot recommend super scoots enough. I broke my hand racing an enduro and so bought a little forza 300. Such a delightful little machine, so much fun. Its actually changed my stable, its so practical I dont need another 'proper' practical bike so got a silly sunday bike instead. An interesting thing to note is that when Ive spoken to some bikers about them the response is often....yeah yeah...but I wouldnt be seen dead on one!!! and it is they that are missing out. Most amusing of all is that many bikers dont nod back at me on the scoot, prompting the question, are they waving and nodding at the bikes....or the rider?
Very good point! I always nod at scooters personally (they seldom nod back, especially the pizza delivery ones….)
I keep looking at Gold Wing DCTs, but then I keep thinking all I really need is a TMax!
Here here… just changing my Forza 350 for an X ADV750, the scooter concept is passed by with a lot of people until you ride one…. Still have a big bike, but its the scoot that gets out more now.
I bought a Burgman 650 “beluga whale” after your review. It’s not the best looking bike but I absolutely love riding it. I wish all my bikes had that automatic transmission because it’s so easy and enjoyable to ride. Only thing I’m nervous about is any major mechanical failure that will cost more to repair than it’s worth. Love your videos👍
These are CVT and easy to maintain
Great to hear!
I think that’s proper smart really like the colour 👍
I bought one of these last month & still running it in, Rides Great and much better than the C400GT although not as comfortable but does have better suspension. The satnav setup is a nightmare, have subscribed but use google maps on my phone as I can't get the Garmin / Yamaha app to work. Can't wait to finish running it in and may decide to sell my S1000XR
Yes those nav apps are a right pain to get going aren’t they….
@@TheMissendenFlyer you would have thought for the price of the Techmax, it’s Tech would be there
Yes great point!
yep know those roads travelled very well, marlow hill , down Amasham hill into town center. view is memory lane again, for me.. ahha. nice scooter, I used to have the 600 burgman for a while, 105mph and was an out that, funky machine. WOW. I cant how bad the roads have got over there.
My dad used to pick me up from primary school on a scooter….Lambretta 150 with split seats and you had a grab handle in between. No helmet, it was the ‘60’s. There was a point in the rev range of this scooter where everything vibrated including your teeth and your eyeballs. Put me off ‘em for life! 😱
Yes my eyeballs vibrated on my mates Lambretta. Try a Vespa, they are like a Rolls Royces👍
Hehe - things have improved now!
@@simonhall5086 wish I’d still got the bloody thing. It’d be worth a fortune!
Interesting to do a comparison with the Kymco AK550 similar maxi scooter. Here in Australia, the 2023 AK550 is near $5,000 cheaper and has cornering ABS and Dunlop sticky rubber as standard.
As you said great around town , but, had one for six months and exchanged it because? It handles like a barn door on motorways, in light breezes in anything over 60 mph 😊😊
Thanks for sharing
The ultimate in practical biking…. It even has a proper front mudguard!! Hurrah 😃
I've been curious about this bike since Nevesy recently had it in his top 10 garage wish list!
Yes I saw that too....he knows a thing or two about bikes.
Hello sir,,, nice review.... I hope you can make more review about scooter..... Stay safe....
Stay tuned!
I nearly fell of my stool when you said £12700! Makes the Honda NC 750X DCT look cheap and the new Hornet a gift! Even the Honda Forza 750GT is over £2000 cheaper.
Well it's a high spec machine and why do we expect manufacturers to be able to build scooters like this for less than a comparable conventional motorcycle?
@@TheMissendenFlyer I agree with you fully with regards the comparison. But compared to the Honda Hornet at nearly half the price and actually more spec than the T Max. Value wise, it just doesn't make sense in my opinion. And when you see what else is available if you have £12k plus to spend, it looks very expensive and over priced to me.
Take a seat... the Yamahaha list price is £13,800!!!! 🤣😂😅🤣
Very cool scoot, But the price tag sux's. Excellent review none the less Andy. Cheers from Australia
Cheers!
Great video 👍🏻 Nice to have something a little bit different on the channel, and finally a ‘bike’ which suits a tft, I much prefer separate clocks on bikes to little tv screens 😂 They even did a turbo model; I bet that shifts 😮
I own the Yamaha 2022 XMAX 300 in Orange County NY I love it but am looking to one day step it up to this. I was wondering if it is available in the USA?
Maybe trying it on a faster road might have helped the people looking at them, over say a 250 scoot. Great review.
Thinking along the small bike lines, could you get a grom in for review ? You had a short go on a benelli 125 many years ago. It might help the younger riders, with a review from a trusted source.
What's it like on the open road Andy ? For urban commutes you'd buy a smaller, cheaper scooter, the big ones for longer journeys, including open roads.......at least that's my understanding.
Yes I should have shown a blast on the motorway - it’s excellent on faster roads by the way….a great all rounder
Hi tmf you should of took the Tmax on some b roads. That's where it really shines. The centre of gravity is so low that when you are in a bend it's effortless to go down, and when you hear the stand with the tarmac you realise you went down more than you should of without knowing. Tmax the best.
You should have hit the motorway fella, its more than capable but other than that, nice review!👍
I wish we still got the TMAX in the US. I have the XMAX 300, which is the largest variant we can get. They are excellent scoots.
I would love this bike to commute on in London so that I could keep my poor Blackbird a rest, but the price !🤥 Great vid 👌
Thanks for the review but a shame you didn't take it out for a short blast on the M40 and a few lanes. Folks ride these things across Europe! I became a bit of a convert to sports scoots having owned an XMax 300 for 2 years mainly for commuting but I was amazed how capable it was on 200 mile days as well. I've gone back onto a Tracer now but would certainly own another big scoot and am always surprised how few there are on the roads in the UK.
Next time!
Hi Andy , Good review, im currently a 125cc Maxi scooter owner,I regularly commute to work and arrange bike tours across the UK on my Maxi scoot. Im currently in training for my Mod1 and look forward to a larger engined scoot in the near future. Perhaps you could complete a 2nd review of the Tmax Tech Max on motorways and A roads along with a comparison with the Honda Forza 750, Kymco AK550, & SYM Maxsym TL508, ALL are Maxi Sports scooters worthy of consideration,
It would be nice to get Carol's opinion as a passenger.
If it doesn’t have a top box she won’t go on the back!
Hi does it have 2 seat heights it may be the reason you could'nt touch down fully
it does look well though.
Yamaha make 5he best machines and you get so much for your money unlike other manufacturers
I could have said almost all the same things about the BMW C650GT we owned. What wonderful machines! Alas, my wife just did not take to it, and I like my Super Tenere.
As a Vespa owner I totally appreciate the ease of use of a scooter. Never ridden one of the bigger engine varieties, but it looks good. Out of curiosity, when did you film this? My guess is early October. Always good to see the trees with leaves 👍. Roll on summer.
Yes it was filmed on October the 12th 2022 - as you rightly noted the trees were still in full leaf!
Tricky price point with the likes of the Honda XADV at similar cost - like the ability to rest your feet in different positions on a longer ride - great to see TC now on these bikes.
