"And in that one moment, I took everything that was dear to me and transformed it, into nothing more than a memory." Those were the most powerful words throughout this scene. Just hearing those words as your watching young Bruce with those sad eyes looking at his mom with her hand on her on chest crawling out was really depressing. That's why I say this is the best Hulk movie out of every one because the storyline was magnificent. I can't stand it when certain people say is that they didn't like the CGI into how they made the hulk. Well what more the hell could you expect, that was the technology back then. Hate it or love it but I wish that they would have never replaced Eric Bana. His version and him as a actor alone should have been in the Avengers.
The scene where she gets stabbed is the one thing I remember from that movie...it almost makes me cry because of how real it felt and you could see the love she had for her son
This scene gives me so much nostalgia. The music is so fitting and towards the end the music really connects. I remember this movie for its music and its deep story that it has.
Watching this movie at almost 18 compared to a child, it hit me hard and got me to tear up. This scene gives me the goose bumbs everytime i watch it and it amazes me everytime
This one scene sticks out for me for the entire film. The screenwriting, the score, Nick Nolte’s acting…say what you want to about the film, but this scene here was pure beauty.
One of the comments got it right. It gives you that weird nostalgic feeling when you were a child. They hit it right. When I watched this when I was a kid it made me feel weird then. Brilliant
David Banner tested the radiactive regenerating stuff on himself, getting it into his DNA. He was horrified to learn that his wife was pregnant, knowing that he would be "different". So he felt he either had to use him, to make him godlike, or completely destroy him out of fear.
Yet out of all that chaos. There was nothing but the screaming agony of a Father forcing himself to kill his only son. Fearing him to bare the weight of a monster. When in his sons eyes, even if he didn’t admit it. He was the monster
David was obsessed with finding answers to advancement beyond natures intent that he lost his grasp on what life really means. The effort to love and struggle. He loved bruce at the start, and while he was aware that he may have distorted his family dream, it still made him hopeful. He didn't want to believe the extent of his sons tainted DNA. He became desperate trying to overturn his mistake so much and couldnt keep his focus any longer on anything except an end. And when his last hope of taking back his regret was lost, he surrendered his own sense of morality. And was completely willing to destroy everything that tethered his humanity just to save the future from suffering the consequences of his failure... He stopped being Bruce's father that day. And instead became a vengeful world purging maniac, who wanted to use the unintentional mistake of power he gave to his own son to do it.
He tried to cure him, knowing eventually Bruce would be a danger to all humanity if he was raised even a tiny bit incorrectly. Ross stopped David from being able to cure him of the biological changes Bruce had in his DNA. David as far as he knew was choosing his son or saving humanity kind. He chose to try to save the world by killing his son. It only brought him pain. He had no idea that the thing that would kickstart Bruce’s genetic mutations would be gamma radiation. As far as he knew, he killed his wife for nothing. That raises the question though, can you blame him for his line of thinking? Had Bruce one day got a chip on his shoulder, or even just went insane, and he could transform without gamma radiation needed for the Hulk, what kind of damage could he do if he was in complete control of that power and used it for evil? He’d basically have force the government to nuke a city, and as we see at the end of this film, a giant gamma ray blast, which is far more powerful than a nuke, wasn’t enough.
I have a feeling that this might be based it off of the ultimates, Because David banner creating a genetic bioweapon for the government, Bruce Banner experimenting with Nanites powered by gamma radiation, it all kind of sounds like when Bruce Banner created a very Ethan of the super soldier serum in ultimates. Then again I kind of feel like part of marvel comics good writing comes from the ultimate line as well as newer, Better writers and illustrators for the comics Like Brian Michael Bendis And Mark Millar Who also worked on some of the mainstream comics, the TV series, movies And video games based off of the modern comics and influence the comics even more And maybe just maybe the blade movie all had some part play in the modernization and cinematic storytelling of the modern marvel comics and movies. Such an emotional and powerful scene played brilliantly by Nick Nolte and one of his finest moments. Brings a lump to ones throat. Ang Lee deserves a lot of credit for this film. The best Hulk in my opinion.
The actor who played this hulk should have been in all of the Hulk movies, including the Avengers. That would've completed my childhood. Same goes for Toby McGuire as Spiderman
The 2008 movie was meant to be a sequel, which is why it starts in South America. Eric Bana didn’t even think about doing another film during the first so he said no. Also, Hulk was apparently received poorly at the time, and the MCU didn’t exist yet. Probably seemed like a waste of time with what might’ve been another dud.
Mad respect to Edith Banner here. Even though dying from a stab wound, she still tried to save her son by letting him escape, and also warn everyone of the upcoming explosion, even if by then it was too late. Bruce may have his father's darkness in him , but also has his mother's compassion as a counterbalance.

I always found this scene shocking when I watched it as a kid. I still find it shocking but I appreciate what it explores e.g. emotions and relationships (thank goodness it's only a film and not real life too). I just don't understand why there was a green explosion as Bruce's mother ran into the desert. According to the hulk wiki hulk.wikia.com/wiki/Hulk_(2003_film) it's because Bruce trnasformed into the hulk when he was a child and stopped his father from harming him, the green explosion represented his rage and the hulk being released. Still if anyone has their own explanation or the director's intended explanation, that'd be great to hear.
When Ross informs David that he is off the project due to his disregard for protocol, David sets a thirty-minute timer for gamma decontamination. That was what it was, in a literal, narrative sense, but I think it's an excellent for what has happened to Bruce internally, destruction of the family design and his innocence.

The real reason why David went evil He realized his son had radioactive blood & also his body system even when he was infant He didn't notice before he did that Then when Thaddeus Ross ruined his lab caused the father to get triggered
Betty Ross should've not left the secret base. If she hadn't, she could've tried to stop Glenn Talbot from abusing him to get a piece of his alter-ego, the Hulk, for his own gain which is revenge against Bruce whom he had the grudge against since before Bruce became the Hulk from an accidental overdose of Gamma Rays in the lab while he was saving a man's life there earlier and then injuring Talbot for abusing Bruce in his own home.
Can someone list me all the movies/TV series from 2004 onwards where characters (only kids, young and adult men/women) are tied in water tanks like Bruce in Hulk?
This is a great scene, Nick Nailed it. But how the Hell did Hulk's Origin go from Banner Saving some guy from a field experience into Daddy Banner (if you notice Nick is using the Name from the 70s TV show, David Banner) passing on the genes into his baby and then he feels the need to murder him before he grows up... instead he kills the woman he loves. Now that is just sick.
David Banner tested the radiactive regenerating stuff on himself, getting it into his DNA. He was horrified to learn that his wife was pregnant, knowing that he would be "different". So he felt he either had to use him, to make him godlike, or completely destroy him out of fear

The worst fear is that of disappointment
Good look
I love it
Once I found out Bruce's mom is wills mom from stranger things I had to look this up. She looks soooo different
How david break in betty house?
Back when marvel was as dark and serious as DC
Can someone list me all the movies/TV series from 2004 onwards where characters (only kids, young and adult men/women) are tied in water tanks like Bruce in Hulk?
🤨
In the 70’s series, it was Hulk/Dr. Bruce Banner.
Hulk walked so Logan can run.
The voices
The whole movie was based on the moms death
Joel P because in the comics the hulks rage was based on him seeing his father murder his mother as a child
Absolutely the darkest story of all time
Does anyone know the music at 3.40 during mother death?
So Bruce's Dad was going to kill Bruce because of the DNA he put in him
Poor Bruce he was Tramitized at that moment I can tell by the look on his face after when his Dad comes bursting out the room
no, they took away his chance to cure his son because Ross fired him for testing human blood in the lab. After that he snapped.
Why is there no blood on the knife?
censorship
Mark Rubis fun fact if they showed blood or didn't censor her shoulder this moment alone would have got the film an R rating
Because it's PG
@@lucianoosorio4272 Spider-Man 4 is rated PG-13
@@lucianoosorio4272 the movie had jumpscare because of the director nature
Green Goblin jumpscare his transformation
Doc Ock jumpscare hospital
Venom jumpscare mirror but not shown
Spider-Man 4 old version
Carnage would probably have a screamer
Spider-Man 4 final version
Nothing it didn't have a jumpscare
But the movie was rated PG-13 & it had controversial stuff that it was going to be R but it's toned down
How come they didn't make this movie part of MCU? They made the sequel, The Incredible Hulk, part of MCU, but not this? Why?
2008 not a sequel
She and knife merged? Isn't that how stabbing works?
DAMN
Can someone explain to me why Bruce can't remember this I couldn't figure out why he has no childhood memories
Repressed memories.
Amost all the time people mention this movie all I hear is *It sucks*
Then I found out something quite interesting. Although this movie was released in 2003, it had been in development since 1990 and by 2000 the script had already been modified or rewritten by 12 different people. What we saw in 2003 was Ang lee and James Schamus work. It was amazing if not perfect but it could have also been a complete flop after all those years and all those people got involved.
I get it now
Why did the lady put her hand
Preventing the father
I feel bad for you
I feel bad for you
And he's listening to to you u too
In a film of otherwise Room levels of awkwardness and unintentional hilarity, this stands out as a good and genuinely dramatic scene.
I don't get what's so pretentious about that quote. It shows how degraded his mind has become. And, the whole scene is supposed to have a dream-like quality about it.
David Banner tested the radiactive regenerating stuff on himself, getting it into his DNA. He was horrified to learn that his wife was pregnant, knowing that he would be "different". So he felt he either had to use him, to make him godlike, or completely destroy him out of fear
Just like me
I don't know why Talbot wants bruce/hulks blood?
To weaponize it for military purposes and make a profit for himself
@@ArkhamKnight-uj6wwEven General Ryker did almost the exact same thing in the 2003 game. He try to capture the Hulk to do research and acquire the Gamma Orb in order to weaponize it. But because Crawford (Ravage) took it
Mercyhulk
Why this scene tries to make us feel bad for Brian if he doesn't give a shit about his son? It's all about his experiment.
Trying to to see his point of view maybe?
Does anyone know the soundtrack for this clip of the movie?
@Black Erron thank you very much
Wait, I thought Bruce killed his mother??
no that wasen't bruce it was david bruce's father he murdered his own wife
David's A Beatnik😡
