  • In this Range Report I get the opportunity to shoot and review a rare South African clone of the Beretta 92. This is the Vektor SP1. This is a full sized 9mm pistol designed as an improvement of the Beretta 92. It has a closed slide design and frame mounted safety. How does it compare to a real Beretta? This video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences with this pistol. Yours may vary.

I am South African, and have had it from 1991, many rounds through it, no mechanical failure.

It really seems to be an amazing pistol and very well built.

@@thetexasgunvault Littleton Engineering was a part of ARMSCO, before ARMSCOR became DENEL. They manufactured all our weapons, that required barrels. They built the:
      - South African FN under license.
      - R4 Assault rifle, under License from Israel, as the R4 was the South African Galil.
      - The G5 Howitzer, years ahead of it's time, and still a leader in range.
      - The G6 Rhino, mobilised, mine proofed Howitzer, to name a few.

I noticed one the first time in a series set in South Africa and kept an eye open. They appeared regulalrly on Gun Broker where i got mine in near-mint condition some years ago.
When they do appear, the prices are usually very high. A large quantity vendor had a crateful of used ones some years ago and was selling them off for around four hundred - a steal if you ask me.
    They are very nice pieces.
According to your serial #, your piece is also 49 guns away from mine.

Very cool! I’ve never seen that one before. Try to get your hands on a Vektor CP1. Pretty awesome. Thank you for the video!

Hi there im from south africa. I own a vektor sp1 and the vektor z88 (beretta clone) i was issued the SP1 when i joined the military police in the south african defence force back in 1993. It was taken away from us a few months later and we got issued the z88. When i left the army and joined the south african police service i was issued a z88 again while friends of mine were issued the sp1 while in the metro police. I always wanted to get a sp1 but never got one at a good price or if you did see them they where used AF....a friend of mine left south africa emigrated to the USA and in his safe was a brand new sp1 that he bought over 20 years ago when he left the south african police.....he gifted me the new sp1 and it is 100% my safe queen ....i have the z88 and the sp1 in my safe because they are true south african iconic firearms.......i will never let them go.....so much history in both of the guns lives.....than you for your channel keep up the awesome reviews

From South Africa these are used a fair bit in competition over hear. They have an exelent reputation. I've shot one before and in my opinion it shoots smoother than the Beretta but recoils just slightly heavier if that makes sense. There are also a few in police service.

Look at the little brother, the Vector CP1.

Safety lever is very taurus-like. Of course that makes sense considering the lineage of both guns

Another difference, is the fact that the barrel is not grooved but hexhoigal.

Take a look at a Llama Omni from 1984. I think that's the look they were copying.

It's nice collectible, but i think the Beretta is a more elegant design.

I agree about the looks, but this one shot great for me. I guess it is a form over function thing.
