  • The Vektor SP1 was the South African company's upgraded version of their previous Beretta 92FS clone, the Z88. The General's Model is compact and ideal for defensive use, while the Target variant is an excellent range gun, featuring an SAO trigger and extreme accuracy due to a clever bushing system.

    What a nice touch they glued their logos to the grip. Gives you a special value kind of feeling when the Vektor logo just falls off during shooting. lol

    So it's basically the pistol the US military asked for from beretta but beretta refused to make with the 92a3 as they kept the open slide design.

    • @GunFunZS
      @GunFunZS 8 лет назад +3

      +ehy Open slide is better. In case of a bulged barrel, it still runs and can be disassembled. Lighter too.

    • @MavHunter20XX
      @MavHunter20XX 8 лет назад +16

      +GunFun ZS wait....that's not how it works. If the barrel were to increase in diameter to where the front of the slide would interface w/ it, it would jam more than a browning type because the 92 does not have the tilting barrel while the browning tilting barrel is cut so it can accommodate the barrel angle when it unlocks. So the open slide does NOT make it more reliable in that respect. As a matter of fact, it allows for the shooter to get burned on contact during extended shooting if he/she were to accidentally touch the barrel. Also the open design allow the cams to be exposed to dirt/debris, while all other designs are more enclosed.

    • @GunFunZS
      @GunFunZS 8 лет назад +1

      MavHunter20XX You are completely incorrect. I have actually dealt with 4 pistol bulged barrels. Two were berretta type and still cycled flawlessly. The two browning types were hopelessly seized and couldn't even be opened enough to chamber check without the use of a vice, brass punch and hammer. - One was salvageable with a new barrel and the other was toast, due to frame damage. And that was at the risk of damaging the slide and frame. I nearly had to saw the barrel in half on one to get it through the opening at the end of the slide.

    • @MavHunter20XX
      @MavHunter20XX 8 лет назад +10

      GunFun ZS
      First of all, what are you doing to get the barrels to become bulged?

    • @ehyyyyyy
      @ehyyyyyy 8 лет назад +10

      GunFun ZS
      Bulged barrels are an excuse.Bulged barrels are the symptom of a different issue. if the barrel is bulged it is probably from being fired in training and needs to be replaced like any other part. The reason open slide designs are bad is it allows dust and dirt to get into the gun.

    I own a 15+1 capacity Vektor SP1 since 1992 and have extensively utilized it during bank robbery encounters and Grant hunting at night within 70-80 yards using 115gr blazer catrige. Very effective and reliable performer. Have not changed any part since 1992 despite over 1,200 catriges of 115gr - 124gr varieties fired so far. Only blue colour of Vektor logo has faded since. My right decision to buy on the recommendation of an experienced South African firearms dealer
    It is a bit large handgun for consealed-carrying though but I guess there are options.

      +LifeSizePotato That's because most of your original viewers know you from your videos on rarer guns. But when you make a top 10 then you need to expect the plebs to go furious with not seeing their run of the mill Glocks and CZs.

However, if a narrow intelligent topic somehow picks up a lot of general traffic, the comments are extra special, since the subject matter is over their heads.

    Beretta 92 "Stock" and "Combat" have accurising conical bushings (attached to barrels using threads). Zero play and barrel is centered every time, but dis-/reassembly requires a tool.

    There seems to be a lot of pistols based on the 92 frame. I got a Taurus 911 not to long ago. Also based on the 92 frame, but a different lock-up. It uses more of a Browning style tilting barrel. One major problem though is I can not find magazines for it.

    Definitely one of the more underrated modern hand-guns, (well, technically the design isn't all that "modern", but it still undoubtedly stacks up well to the newer and more modern pistols on the market). I have the Target model, and it's a fantastic all around gun. That said, there are still plenty of pistols that i like better. Now whether these guns have a whole lot better performance is another story, seeing as how most major pistols perform pretty damn comparably to one another, whether your talking 9mm or .45. Guns like the HK Mark 23, the HK-P30L, the Sig X5 and X6, the baseline Sig P226, the Sig P320, the HK USP-9mm/.45, the TTI STI Combat-Master 2011 - (by far the best 1911/2011 that has ever been made imo, with the fact that it's ridiculously expensive being the only major drawback), the HK-VP9, the CZ Shadow 2, the baseline CZ-75, and the Baikal MP-446C Viking - (which is pretty much a clone of the badass MP-443 Gratch, which you can't buy in the US), are all a bit better imo, though I can't think of any others off the top of my head that i think are. Not to mention the fact that, as i stated earlier, the amount to which they are "better" is pretty negligible and a whole lot of it comes down to person preference in the end.

    Awesome video, however I do believe the SP1 Target is actually double action. There are two set screws in the frame. One for the trigger and the other, if removed will make it double action.
    Parts for these gun are becoming scarce. Do you know of anyone making barrels for it? The threads are super fine on the barrel.

      +M92Brigadier import from south africa? the exchange rate is very favorable for everyone outside of south africa , our gun prices have stayed steady with a worsening exchange rate , so even with import costs , they are pretty cheap . 5500 south african rands (currency) buys your the compact model (generals model) and its currently 16 to 1 for the USD. so the gun costs you less than $350. can not be double that to import. the target model he speaks of, almost impossible to find , collectors have them all locked away.

    Vektor was taken over by Denel and Truvelo if I remember correctly.

    • @Jarrow13
      @Jarrow13 8 лет назад +1

      Vektor was owned by LIW, a Division of Denel Land systems. Truvelo is a different company in South Africa and is 100% private owned. Denel was semi private and semi state owned and produced these handguns due to the worldwide boycotts against SA in that time. Denel that was formerly known as LIW (Lyttelton "Ingeneurs" Werke" first started producing the R1 rifle that was a FN Fal built under licence in the 60's and later on they started manufacturing the R4 that was a Galil under license in the 80's, later on the R5 (carbine version version of the R4) was manufactured. In the mid and late 1980's sanctions and boycotts against South Africa became very intense and handgun imports literally came to a halt, so LIW started a division that was dedicated to only manufacturing handguns for the military, police and civilians and this division was named Vektor, that would later on became the manufacturer of all semi auto rifles, handguns and special purpose weapons, the Z88 was their first design in 1988 by T.D Zeederberg who was an Engineer at LIW. The first prototypes of the Z88's had issues with slides "cracking" off of the frames, direct reason for this was due to problems of casting high enough quality frames (SA has never been good at casting pistol frames). So the solution was to CNC the frame as SA were at that time some of the best in CNC machining. In 1989 the first Z88's came into production (still under the name LiW for reasons I don't know). Later on the SP 1 series came out that was initially designed and made for the traffic department as the Z88 was a bit heavy to carry for traffic cops who were on motor cycles, the SP1 is based on the 92 platform as it has an Alloy frame and instead of the open barrel system, it's a closed system like the Taurus 911. In 1996, Vektor came out with the polymer frame gas operated CP1, unfortunately the CP1 never had the chance to be improved due to the new government that came into power in 1994 (the ANC) as Vektor was then mismanaged by the new government and by 1999 Vektor led to bankruptcy. These firearms are a reminder of what SA was as a Nationalist State before Zionists destroyed it.

    • @tengu190
      @tengu190 8 лет назад +1

      +Jannie van Niekerk I know that some later assault rifles and pistols were built by Truvelo but none took off. They seemed to have dropped the various shotguns from their website and are concentrating on their sniper systems.

    • @Jarrow13
      @Jarrow13 8 лет назад

      tengu190 you are absolutely correct, they did build their own version assault rifle that pretty much was based on a Galil/R4 but had all the "goodies" like picitini rails etc. the SA task force did use them for a while. I think their real objective was to get these rifles into the African market, but in Africa the AK 47 is king and it would have never succeeded as in Africa the AK's can be obtained for much cheaper like the Norinco's. So they stopped production, they did manufactur a polymer framed gas operated pistol (the ADP), that didn't sell very well. They had a nice little 4/10 tactical semi auto shotgun that was the size of an smg and had a boxfed magazine. Now it's only the Neostead shotgun that they are selling and they still produce sniper rifle. The 50 cal is their most popular one that mainly gets sold in Africa, Asia and I do believe to some middle Eastern armies. But Truvelo these days have rather invested their time into radars and speeding cameras for the trafic department and that is where their main income lies these days.

    • @tengu190
      @tengu190 8 лет назад

      +Jannie van Niekerk Wilson combat for a while was selling the ADP Mk 2.

    • @Jarrow13
      @Jarrow13 8 лет назад

      tengu190 yes, Alex Du Plessis took his design over the USA with the hopes to have more success there with the ADP, as the ADP wasn't the success he wished for in SA. Unfortunately when it comes to gas operated pistols, it becomes a different ball game. The Gas operated system in handguns are absolute a nightmare to make it work reliably. Very few manufacturers get the GO system to be relaible, even Walther are struggling with the current CCP. The HK p7 is a true testiment of what HK are capable of.

    Would have loved the decocker instead of the useless safety. Very cool gun otherwise.

    Those pistols are horrible--you should sell both (to me) immediately. You and BAC are my heroes. I'm chasing you both but I'm years and thousands of dollars behind.

      +mrsquishyboots You might be thinking of the Fusion model. This one's the Billennium, which is really only about $25-3000 usually.

    They are Llama 82 and Llama 87 clones, more than Beretta copies.

    Build quality is NOT the same as QUALITY CONTROL. Remember, it's from South Africa and it's not a even a Taurus PT92 or some other good clone.

      Vektor guns are made very well. These are superior to the Taurus guns.
