That third Instant Bargain...I think Jay was having some Let's Make A Deal flashbacks. And that laugh from Barb was a total tell.

One of the unseen fee plugs was for Nat Robbins Lip Prime. Ward Johnston was either for Johnston's Pie Crust, Oh Henry, Bit O Honey, or Chunky bars.

I noticed the "Triple self portrait" was one of the prizes you already won on your initial _$ale_ appearance.

HIs run on the Challengers, at least the TofC he was in, is on RUclips. His games of Jeopardy! in 2000 are on J-archive.

Hi Mort! I have one more question for you.... Why has there not been a speed round? I know the round went from 3 questions to 60 seconds, but I've never seen a show prior with no questions. Again thanks so much for these videos, what a rare treat to any sale of the century fan. I was a year old when your episodes originally aired, in the past few years I've come to appreciate 80's game shows first on Game Show Network and now RUclips. Sale of the Century is easily my favorite :)

I guess they didn't introduce the speed round until later. I'm sure a lot of the commenters know the details.

Barbara Phillips was the First Player to Win All the Prizes, Plus the Cash Jackpot.

Wasn’t she the only one to do that during the first year or so of the show cause the cash jackpot was offered as a separate prize and generally people stopped once they reached that level

This episode aired on October 28, 1983 then. On that very day, but not all stations aired TTD's 1000th episode, but according to Thomas Schofield, KHJ-TV in Los Angeles aired TTD's 1000th episode on October 28, 1983.

Jim said at the end of the show that the next semi-final week will be in three weeks, and he said at the beginning this was the first week of the semi-finals. The finals week is known to have aired from 11/15-11/18 and 11/21/ 1983(Tue-Mon instead of MOn-Fri) due to a 10/25 preemption for the US invasion of Grenada. An episode from the third week of the semi-finals aired on 11/9/1983 and is on David Downs' page. So the second semi-finals week aired, at the latest, 11/1 to 11/4 and 11/7/1983, Ergo, the latest this episode could have aired is 10/7/1983.

18:14 - One of the occasional hazards of television: keeping the children occupied while Jim tells you all the things you've won. I take it your son didn't go to Italy with you, Mort.

The third semi week of the TofC aired from 11/8-11/11 and 11/14, 1983 with the finals airing 11/15-11/18 and 11/21, 1983. THis would have aired October 7, 1983 at the latest, as the second semi week would have been at the latest three weeks after that, or 11/1-11/4 and 11/7, 1983. NBC preempted $ale on 10/25 due to coverage of the US invasion of Grenada, and the next month or more of episodes were delayed by one day.

Kind of odd that at this point, the second and third place players didn't have a chance at anything except a few odds and ends on the Fame Game. Those Money Cards were the worst thing Richard could have picked.
