Mort Kamins

DOUBLE DARE 1977
I'm posting this because I recently discovered it--a mere 46 years after it was (poorly) recorded. It's embarrassing on so many levels--hair, clothes, general dorkiness--but especially all the things I didn't know that seem so obvious to me now. Bonus: me with young Alex Trebek.

My second appearance. This aired on January 1, 1991. Luckily, nothing else was on television that day so the ratings must have been through the roof.

My rule is to only post shows where I won. This one breaks the rule. It's unique in format, and it was a great experience for me and my family traveling to and shooting in the UK. Mort Kamins (USA); Hayward Maberley (Australia); Chris Topham (UK); Brian McDonnell (New Zealand)

A beautiful family Mort! ❤
Thanks! 🥲
Is your third round available? Loved your episodes. 🎉
Thanks! I don't remember why I didn't post Episode 3. I assume there was something wrong with the recording. Now I'm going to have search it out to see if I'm right.
$249,000 in cash and Prizes that Mort won Wow!
Loved Watching Sale of the Century. This was an Awesome Game show of the 1980's.
Why does the tournament episodes cut off the speed round at the end
It wasn’t cut off. These early shows from 1983 did not yet have the speed round.
@0:26 when did the swirling "S" debut?
Was Mort the 1st lot winner?
@@nextbarker2702 I believe I was
@7:48, nice to hear Jim singing on that machine
I Wonder... Why Did SALE OF THE CENTURY Wait Until 1984 to Add the Speedround?
To be fair, Australia was the same way. It took them around the same time to add the Mad Minute or Fast Money...and that version had been on the air since 1980!
Crazy the judge a.k.a. Gary Johnson would be on Jeopardy
10:40 & 14:10 - Fame Game music that didn't last long, series wise.
I think being able to best Ben Stein is worth a lot more than $5,000
@@NeedlessExposition I like the way you think
Loved the 70s! Thanks for keeping in the vintage commercials.
🙏
Hi Mort, you’re IQ is impressive! I enjoyed watching the episodes you were on. I hope your wife and son appreciate you and the three of you enjoyed your booty!! It’s so hard to believe that so many years have passed. I hope that the years have been good to you and your family. God bless!!

Mort Kamins you did brilliant on your five day appearance what happened to the prizes that you won on your five days and one day I will go to Ireland 🇮🇪. 😀👍
Mort you did excellent on day 4.😀👍
Mort you did excellent on your second episode. 😀👍
Thanks-but I was incredibly lucky in the first episode.
@@mortkamins4943 your welcome. 😀👍
Mort you did excellent on your first appearance. 😀👍
So fun to watch this. I turned 16 that year. I was driving around in my parent's 1964 Buick Skylark. I kinda wished that the commercials had been left in the video; even those are now a part of historical TV.
That's Funny. I have an extremely high IQ and won a Trivia $10,000 GSN exhibition against 89 others in Phila once. And I can see Ben truly hated that Mort knew more answers than he. This happened to me a fair bit in life where persons thought themselves brilliant until they understood the abilities of genius or near genius upon encountering me. Even my older brother, full Ivy League ride, hated it as I grew upband he had to face someone was smarter. Not bragging, just relating life experience. I'm certain there's someone smarter than myself....haven't met them, though.
1:47
1:48 you have a long wait however
I sure miss game shows like this.
Yay for Mort !!

Thank You for the 16th Season of Jeopardy September 6, 1999 through July 21, 2000 see you on the 17th Season September 4, 2000 through July 20, 2001.
Mort can have a yard sale to get rid of the junk he wasted money on
Hey, anything left from 40 years ago almost qualifies as an antique. Maybe 20 or 30 years down the road we'll do a yard sale and clean up.
not great prizes in the name fame game
Mort passing up the money each time was more than he will win on the game. How many times HAVE WE SEEN SOMEONE COME BACK 5 TIMES ONLY TO LOSE, He could have made the money back too, thousands passed up for a few
Okay, next time I'll do it your way
Mort, congratulations! You seem very humble and appreciative. Obviously very intelligent, it was a pleasure to see you win. I especially enjoyed watching the first year when it first aired. Congratulations again.
🙏
Mort, you are so lucky to have been on game shows hosted by two of my all-time favourite hosts.
Agreed!
Mort was also a Jeopardy! champion in 2000
The only episode with a quarter million $250,000 up for grabs😊
you players need to listen to the questions before you answer...it'll save you points.
If you're playing against good players on Sale of the Century, waiting is a recipe for losers. You have to take chances, you have to anticipate, knowing that sometimes you're going to be wrong.
This was one of the last weeks in which the Cash Jackpot sign's lights were all-white, as well as one of the last weeks in which the cube/safe/cage of cash was used to represent said jackpot. By November 8, 1983 (the third ToC week), the sign would gain its familiar red/yellow/blue color scheme, and the glass suitcase would begin to be used to represent the jackpot (just as it had prior to the jackpot's debut to represent the amount of cash in the original $95,000 prize package).
Was this the highest amount ever won on this game show
I defer to the experts-I’m just the winning contestant, not a game show historian-but I believe it was the highest total amount.
For "periwinkle" I would have said, "a seashell".
Mort, do you have any advice for those (myself included) who want to appear on a game show as a contestant?
I don't think I have any special knowledge and, of course, most of my work in this field was done in a previous century. If it's not a new show, then when you try out, know the game in detail and bring an upbeat personality (not my natural state) and a few entertaining personal stories/anecdotes. You can even make them up or exaggerate them--who cares, it's show business.

Can't beat that on Sale of the Century.
Thanks for sharing! 👍
