Jordan is the best on the Internet talking about this. Most other videos are so convoluted that I can't make heads or tails of them. Jordan's clear, calm delivery is a breath of fresh air. Thank you, sir!
Best instruction video ever! I just bought my first 6 channel mixer and powered speaker combo. I know nothing about PA systems. Your instruction was clear and highly educational. Thanks
Thanks for helping me get sound from my MG10 to a Powered Speaker using my phone!! Now I need to know how to get sound from a laptop instead of a phone.
Hey Jordan. Just wanted to let you know that you helped me in successfully connecting my Scarlett 2i2 to my studio monitor (where I was struggling to get the darn thing working). I must admit, I’m not very good when it comes to audio connections. But your video was quite easy to understand. So, “keep on keeping”! More power to you👍
Very nicely explained. Well structured, easy to understand and follow, even by novices and the uninitiated to the exciting field of acoustic/sound engineering. Thank you.
Great video Jordan. I did a couple of events setting up lighting and sound systems and everything you said was on point. I wanted to learn about using the mixer and you explained it very well. I would add bringing enough black tape to tape over any cables exposed to walking areas. Last thing you want is guests tripping over cables and them blaming the audio/video guy. Cheers
Before I really knew what I was doing when it came to mixer boards, I always related "GAIN" to volume, but later realized its actually "Signal" and not volume. Explains alot when your trying to fix feedback lol ;)
i wish i'd seen this video many years ago. this is clear, concise, instructive and i can barely wait 'til i apply what i've learned to my setup. thank you!
probably the best instructional video I have seen. Having said that i would massively appreciate some clarity on volume/frequency bands use on active speaker/mixing desk
Well done video. Instead of using an extension cord to determine if you have power, get an outlet tester for about $10. Then you will know that you also have ground. Very important for a sound system. When discussing volume and gain, you recommend using the volume until you can't get any more, then adding gain to compensate. I would suggest setting the gain to achieve unity level before turning the volume up at all. If your mixer has a pfl switch, enact that and use the meters to see what your incoming level is. Set that as close as possible to unity, then (and only then) set your volume to an appropriate level.
Thanks for this very informative video! I have a question. We just purchased a Yamaha MG16XU for my church. The mixer will be in the back room and we want to connect our stereo digital piano from the front of the room into the mixer (about 25-30 feet). What would be the best way to do that?
Jordan!!! Thank you!! This is an amazing video and super easy to understand! I show this video to beginners looking to learn how to setup events. I went and bought the same audio mixer since you did such an amazing job explaining everything! Thank you!
Very well explained 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Very thorough explanation and informative👍🏼 I’VE LEARNED A LOT FROM THIS VIDEO👍🏼. THANKS YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS. I’M FOLLOWING ALL YOUR VIDEOS😉. ALL THE BEST BRO👍🏼
Great video especially for a newbie mixer user. How would I play music through a single monitor but still hear the music through my wired earbuds? In other words both working at the same time.
Great video. I have the 10/2 some quite some time. I want to use this mixer with a Mac Book and a powered mixer, if possible, a dj controller and 2 300 watt speaker, for maybe a small venue. A lot of this technical side is foreign to me. Hopefully, afyer I replay this video several times, i will get the hang of it.
i cannot seem to find anywhere that tells me which cables to use (speaker cables or instrument cables) when I am going from my mixer (just like the one in the video) to a power amp using 1/4 inch jacks...meaning that I am NOT going directly to powered speakers.
Thank you so much after following your instructions how to connect my iPhone to mg10xu to speakers....now I got beautiful musics sound and louder I want too .
Bro very knowledgeable love this... bumped into your channel to figure out how to simply connect a tapco 6306 with a dj mixer and microphones, I believe I get the concept here but if there are any tips you can send my way I'd greatly appreciate it!!!
Thank you 🙏 I’m just starting out Dj-ing. I have three speakers one wired mic 🎤 and just ordered four wireless mics and four lapel wireless mics . I assume getting a mixer for this connection will help in making sure everything can connect.
Thank you very much for the teaching. I’ve been struggling to connect my mixer main output to the iPhone mic input, working with resistors and a capacitor, but I’m still not happy with the results. I got it to stop clipping, but the sound quality is not perfect. Is the DI box adequate for this purpose?
Hi great video. What about the volume gain on the powered speaker? Do we turn up all the way and then subtract a quarter as you did on the main volume like on your mixer? And on a wireless. Mic set up, what if the wireless mic has a volume gain? What is the recommended level to be used? Thanks again, 😊👋
Thank you for the video, this is very helpful as I am trying to learn how to set up my mixer for my band for small venues. I play electronic drums using a MG16XU mixer, do I need a DI box from the drum module if the board is more than 10ft away or is the Roland signal balanced? Also, I watched your video on raising the USB volume output, I plug my drum module into the stereo channel that does not have a gain knob, the drums are always too low in the recording, how can I increase volume without a gain knob? TIA
Great video; really appreciate it. Would love to know (as an electric guitarist) whether I should or should not use a DI box. I have been under the impression that just switching a mixer channel to Hi-Z would take care of problems; presuming my guitar is plugged into a pedal board, plugged into my amp. Any thoughts would be great. I will read the other comments to see if this topic is discussed.
As no one has ever taken the time to answer this question, I gladly throw my two cents in. The easiest solution to get your guitar sound into a mixing desk is to put a microphone in front of your amp and send the signal of the microphone to your amp. In fact, this is the solution that is used in big concerts, too. You might ask what all the other speakercabinets that are on stage are doing. The answer to that is that in most cases they do nothing as they are completely empty and just are there to look pretty. One notable exception is AC/DC guitarist Angus Young. He refuses to use monitors and has working speakercabinets left and right on stage to make sure he can here the band play. To prevent feedback he daisychains amps and uses a microphone on an amp that is placed off stage.
I was wondering how to hook up wireless IEM's if you are a solo performer with a PA and a Yamaha MG 10xu. The wireless iems are 3DME by sensaphonics with Bluetooth.
Hi I enjoyed your video and learned a lot I have active speakers you say make sure the switch is on line and not mic but when I put the switch on on line it won’t work only works on mic there LD Speakers can you give me advice what a brilliant presentation Thank you Regards Pat
Nice video very clear. Question: In our church we are using a Fender Venue Passport PA system. Using this kind of an external mixer will work? If will work. then what will be the connections, the proper cables to use. Thanks!
Very Helpful. Would like to see a video on Virtual DJ (Software) of a Laptop for Music of course with a 3.5mm out to RCA in on any Mixer, Then RCA out to RCA in on an Amp. Please.
Great tutorial videos. Just ordered the Yamaha MG10XUF Question... Why was the signal meter on the mixer not lighting up when you were talking on the mics/playing music? Thanks
I really love these videos, thank you so much! Is it possible you could do one on how to set up this mixer with a controller, 2 powered speakers and a sub? I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to do it. I have QSC K12s and a QSC K sub. Any input or advice would be greatly welcomed. Thank you!
We'd love to see a photo of your sound system. Tag us @kettnercreative on TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc..

What mixer did you get?
Your are a good teacher, in fact the best I’ve seen on RUclips so far
Thank you for the kind comment.
and he was great in the movie "Split".
@@kettnercreative Do i have to turn the line and master of the speaker to maximum and control the volume by the master fader???
I agree!
I agree
This is actually the mixer I own....I finally understand it better now
I needed this haha same mixer I got yesterday
I'd love to see a similar video that includes the use of an audio interface and a headphone amp while recording.
Jordan is a dynamic teacher! You are so thorough for just a simple audio mixer hookup. Thank you!
Great teacher! Really organized and easy-to-follow presentation. Thank you!
Thanks for helping me get sound from my MG10 to a Powered Speaker using my phone!! Now I need to know how to get sound from a laptop instead of a phone.
This is an very well explained video.
As an experienced musician I picked up some really useful tips - thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Jordan for this calm , instructive lesson. Just got this mixer and was unsure of some things. Much appreciated !
first time I've seen a decent demonstration of the difference between dynamic and condenser mics...great video..subbed !
Although I am living in Germany, I understood everything. Really very helpful video and thanks to you for your effort.
So simply and clearly explained. Thanks, Doug!
Glad it was helpful!

Great job explaining in detail the finer points in setting up a sound system.

Great video for a beginner to understand how the sound system is connected!!! Thank you ⭐️
