For us normies, it helps you understand like, if someone's autistic or something you're recognizing what that is so you know how to handle it. But for a pro baller like Timmy, he probably saw what types of behaviors guys would do when they're trying to get going and just put a stop to it and get them out of sorts. If a dude gets rolling by starting a dialogue with you, you don't say a word. A young player thinks he's intimidating you, you take over the game and laugh at him. It also probably helped him recognize patterns and take the content of what coaches were saying in instead of just how they were saying it

      @@ATLMike94 never said that he was a bum. What I meant was he was never a great trash talker because he could never back his talk lots of times. He was okay but never great. Like Garnett said, if you talk trash, you must always back it up like Bird, Jordan, Garnett, Payton etc. Him saying he was top 5/10 was comical and untrue.

    The most important thing I got from this is the Spurs star player had the coach coming down on him just like every other player. Part of that is because Tim had the kind of personality that he would allow it and use it to make the entire team better. Stephen Jackson said it "Man if Tim is taking it from Pop then I gotta take it." If your star is a Prima Dona then things get dicey.

    If you know and loved Basketball over the last 30 years this is fascinating stuff. particularly the defensive tips from GP to KG and Kobe. I remember a time early on when Kobe was questionable defensively and then soon thereafter very quickly developed into a 1st team all-NBA defender. Good stuff!

    I always said this about Tim Duncan. He would get the quietest dub-dub or trip-dub out of nowhere. You'd see his stat line after the games and be like when the hell he do all that? Truly one of the greatest of all time.

      Tayshawn Wilson he wasn’t even boring. I never understood that narrative. He was fun to watch to me. Very calculated and cerebral. Never rushed. And absolutely lethal in the clutch. He didn’t wow u with dunks all the time but just watching him master his craft and go to work was great to me. And that’s coming from someone who HAAAAATED the spurs back then.
