    Hey Evan, I’m sure you may have heard this. But the only thing with the shock is that it doesn’t have a piggy back, the piggy back is idea for enduro bikes because it is able to hold more oil and therefore stays cooler and working better longer on big DH days. So if you notice on any longer DH days that your shock is having some issues that could be the reason. Thanks for the content and keep it up!

    I agree the SX is a bit overbiked for the trails you're generally riding on, but hey, it's a sick bike and handles amazingly, the FC/RC balance is so good, Commencal nailed it. I also built one up as a bike that I can just beat on that can handle anything and it is definitely that. You should definitely take it on a trip to a bike park or somewhere with some serious steep rocky tech, you'll be blown away at how much of a beating that thing can take. I have tried to overwhelm mine and its able to handle pretty much anything you throw at it. The SX loves steep sketchy trails.

    If there's one thing my enduro bike taught me, it's that I have to trust the shitload of money I spent on it. 🤣
    My previous Marin Attack Trail had the whole 9 yards; a piggyback, 170mm fork, 203mm rotors front and rear, everything. It felt so slow and cumbersome on flat ground, but when I let go of the brakes and pump it downhill, it just floats over boulders and monster trucks everything while tracking straight.
    The frame has since cracked since it's an 8yo bike that's been with many hard-charging owners throughout its life and I miss it dearly. So I wish nothing for you but the best with your Meta SX!

    Mountain bikes don't have to be fragile at all, you just have to use the right components. Not too long ago we were all climbing hills on freeride bikes that weighed a light 42 pounds and nothing would break or pop when hucking ourselves off stair gaps or retaining walls at the local mall. I would suggest finding a true downhill bike to sample. If you have access to the right trails, something with a dual-crown fork and 200mm travel front and rear will change your world. Cheers!

    That shock is perfectly fine. In Bentonville you certainly don’t need a piggyback since the descents aren’t too long. Rockshox even says on their website that the Deluxe is no different than the enduro-rated Superdeluxe in terms of performance

    • @njshift
      @njshift Год назад +3

      Agreed. If an upgrade is absolutely needed for Bentonville trails, Evan will see more improvement with a MegNeg added to his existing shock vs a remote reservoir style unit.

    • @njshift
      @njshift Год назад +3

      Increasing negative air volume on a frame with geometry designed around a progressive shock will NOT make it worse. Adding a MegNeg allows more tunability, increasing small bump sensitivity and resistance to bottoming out. If Evan decides to upgrade to the piggyback reservoir Super Deluxe Ultimate he can also use the MegNeg with that shock as well.

  • @jaredrude431
    @jaredrude431 Год назад +2

    The SX is a great bike, good choice. If you watch Commencals website, historically in the component section, they in the past would fire sale the left over production inventory after models discontinue. The SX uses the 62.5 shock while the newer bikes from other mfgs seem to use the 65 shock, so likely Commencal will go to 65 on the next design (I'm speculating). New design is out in 2023 according to rumor. Thats a place to watch / track to save money, but honestly with your channel viewership you could probably get a free shock from somewhere. This is all assuming you actually want a shock upgrade, what you have will be fine in Bentonville but once you start putting in 8-10 hour days with 30-40 miles of actual descending (no including the lifts) at the bike parks, that shock is not going to live long. My only real advice here is, Double Down rear tire, or equivalent from other mfg. The cushcore won't save the Exo tread or sidewalls once you start to carry speed through the rocks in DH parks.

Definitely exciting to try another cycling discipline. Sounds like you have some experience, so thanks again!

      Yep, I've ridden much worse on my 120mm norco fluid fs1, its actually surprised me a lot, I used to think more travel equals better, but now I realize its quality of travel that matters more, not quantity, I have a revelation fork with the motion control damper (which isn't supposed to be very good) yet I've changed to 2.5w damper oil and now its great, its at least as good and even slightly more plush than the lyrik with the charger damper that was on my old 2017 trek slash 9.8

      @@CinimodMG My personal experience owning a 150/160 trek slash, the long travel soaks up all the small trail features making tracks that aren't super steep and rough a bit boring, its just like a monster truck steam rolling over everything, so I sold the slash and brought the norco fluid, and it was so much more fun, its super easy to get a rebound pop just by compressing the suspension a bit, it made all the more xc/trail tracks fun again, plus it still handles the steep double blacks just fine too.

    As far as the (non-piggyback) shock, I think it's just different from what we're used to seeing, especially in combination with a super burly fork like the Zeb. I feel like its a USA thing to say a bike is too much for a trail. All the people I know in europe I know have an enduro bike or a solid trail bike just because it so versatile. U could ride park, trail, flow or tech on it. Doesn't matter if u could do it on an xc bike or dh bike. Enduro goes for everything here.
