Hey Evan! Just to let you know that you forgot to change the weight in kgs on 6:29 as 34.6lbs is 15.7kg. Im still giving a like to this video man, good work😄
Hey Evan, enduro racer here. IMO the biggest thing you can do to improve your riding if you're serious about training for racing is adding in 2-3 strength sessions per week (if you arent already). Focus on explosive movements and work on building your core. I promise you will feel a difference in your riding in a couple weeks.
I would lean more towards the 10 hrs a week side of things - im not sure 15 is necessary unless you're planning on doing XC especially with the family and all that. Obviously stick to mostly z2 but add some more intensity intervals one day as well.
Hey man! Thanks for the tips. I'm sure I'll try Enduro eventually, but those Enduro race speeds can be scary AF. So XC and cyclocross are what I'm eyeing. I have a gym membership so I will add that in. I'm really considering making daily videos of training for a second channel
So much this! I'm out with a broken leg, but weight training, endurance training, and ESPECIALLY stretching has made a monster difference. Evan looks like he's in good shape but for anyone that isn't, I'd add diet to that too ... Funny how the best way to be a better rider doesn't include actually riding your bike, but for enduro racing it's tried and proven!!
@@EvansMTBSagaI'd watch that, and if you ever need fitness tips specific to mtb there's a lot online or hit up your own subs. I ride mostly bike parks but what took me to that next level was working on strength and flexibility!!
strength training makes everything better! and bulking up and getting stronger can also improve your power to weight ratio, which means bigger/stronger guys can climb faster than smaller weak guys (unless you become a complete mass monster)
6:29 Wow your bike lost 4 pounds, but it didn't loose any kilograms. Incredible.
Taking about his bank account 😂
No more kg listing from here on out!
Came here to post the same thing...
@@EvansMTBSaga Or you could just use kilograms like a normal person
Please don't stop posting Kg, I'm furiously scrolling through comments to find someone has converted it for me! Lbs just don't make sense!
Those new brakes look so sick ... No doubt in my mind Evan will have a new "transmission" come Christmas!! Best MTB channel going right now, imo on par with Seth.
Colosus would look mint with transmission
Updurooooooo!!! Still mind blown how light the Collosus is now. 💪
Edit: low key love seeing myself lurking in the back. 🤣
Nice Cameo! 😁
Fun fact, the old Colossus n9 with the fs3 linkage only weight 13.8kg.
But it was also full carbon and cost 3k more than the current one in my country's currency lol. Or 2.2k USD.
I have a Colossus T8, the 140mm trail version. It's about the same weight as the n9 back then.
But like it's a Collosus, none of them ever feel near as heavy as they actually are.
I also have a 2017 Siskiu d7 that should be slightly lighter but it feels way heavier.
Trailduro
This is why I love enduro bikes, so versatile and much like Evan, I love tinkering with my bike (and buying completely unnecessary parts I really don't need ... At least he's got the excuse of his channel and could write it off)!!
agreed!
I am actually planning on doing some stuff to my 2016 Fuel EX8. Its started off as a 120mm front/120mm rear travel bike. I plan to over fork it too 140mm with a fox 34 or 36. May experiment and see if I can do something to get more travel out of the rear as well. Plus a new wheelset and drivetrain and a custom paint job. I can't afford a new bike but this should make it much more capable. You have inspired me to attempt to do more to my bike myself.
I love lighter faster tires on my bikes, particularly the rear. Adds a great snappiness. I'm planning to convert my 2023 Norco Optic mid-travel trail bike (with enduro geo) into a downcountry bike with 130 in the front and 120 in the rear, and I'm probably going to try out Vittoria Barzo front/Mezcal rear. It already has a Bontrager XR2 on the rear, which I picked randomly off the shelf at my local Trek when the stock Martello had a sidewall burst. I'm not a fan of Bontrager tires (I had three punctures that required replacement on the Bontrager GR1s for my Trek Checkpoint gravel bike within like three months, and then learned they don't have any anti-puncture tech), but the XR2 is one of my favorite tires. After the fiasco with the GR1s, I went to Vittoria Mezcal 44mm for my gravel bike, and they're easily my favorite tires ever.
That sixer suspension setup is impressive at 34 pounds it's starting to make sense for climbing, somewhat 😂
Tbh I'm jealous of this setup...
Calling this bike "Upduro", Enduro or whatever anyone else care to label it is kind of silly. The most important thing about any bike is that you have FUN riding it. I've grown to love riding so much in the past 3 years that I have only put just over 1000 (1035.8 )miles on my vehicle. I ride nearly everywhere now and I don't like anywhere near a bike friendly town like Bentonville! I have fun on each and every ride.
Nice setup! Plus 10mm less travel shouldn't feel much different if at all.
From Montreal Canada! This is my favorite MTB channel by far🎉
Thank you Alain!!
I really enjoy a lot the upgrades you make...the point is the weight. Mine is 14.5kgs 29er, frame/wheels aluminium , 140mm/120mm full suspension RockShox, Nx sram group set with 203/180 rotors 4 piston deore XT brakes, dropper post and 2.40 tubeless Maxxis tires, and when you say 17.5kg that sounds a truck to me including your dreaming BERD wheels, I would love to have those with an industry 9 hubs to get the 14kgr or less for sure... anyway... Cool videos as always
I think too many people get hung up on what class a bike fits in and they are way over biked. Hardtails will do 99.99999% of all trails in North America if driven right.
Who cares what kind of bike it is as long as it fits and feels good. Ride it!
For fitness, put a bunch of weight in a backpack, grab one of your “enduro” bikes, loosen the rebound all the way up and pedal that disaster train up a bunch of hills with long climbs and short descents. Do that 2 days a week and lift 2 days a week. It works.
all you need is a killer light weight wheel/tire set and a burly wheel tire set to have essentially two completely different bikes. Basically why I am considering the BERD Hawk 30s for my Yeti SB 5.5 that is currently set up for park/aggressive trail.
Berd spokes are a game changer! I'm working on getting a Berd wheelset for Enduro
my 160mm enduro bike with coil shock, dropper and nothing carbon exept the handlebar weights 14,6kg and rides amazing
The stock one is 17.5 and the upgraded is also 17.5? :D
I've been under-tiring bikes for years. Not as "polarized" as this experiment, but my go-to type of bike for years, has been a short-ish travel trailbike (around 130-140 mm), but in general I've fitted them with XC-tires (though not the absolute lightest kinds) + an insert.
We don't have much rock in Denmark where I live, so these super burly chunky tires are not that needed for grip I find. But the travel is good for forgiving mistakes on jumps, line choice and what not, when you learn to rider hard and more aggressive, as the lower weight and rolling resistance will allow you.
The travel is what is forgiving particularly for someone on the heavier side. The beefy wheels and tires is what keeps your bike from disintegrating when riding lots of chunk super aggressive. But if the trails are not particularly chunky, you don't really need that level of robustness I find.
It's all about supporting your weak sides in relation to the trails you ride, and cutting weight and stability where you have it in excess.
If you are looking for a really good enduro race close to home there will be a big mountain enduro in mt. Nebo Arkansas in 2024 I think it is in may.
Thanks for the comment. I don't think I want to race Enduro. One day I'll try it, but I prefer to race bar to bar with people
Try the Hunt Trail Wide wheels on the polygon! They’re relatively cheap, lightweight, good engagement and durable.
I'll check into that! thanks!!
Just chill man. That's going to be my quote of the day. Love it.
Pretty amazed you were able to drop that much weight
All-mountain category just made a comeback with this video
We use a Mountain Tyler 5gal system. They pick up empty bottles & leave full ones. Always COLD or Hot spring water. Nice Polygon 🤟🏻
@EvansMTBSageBike 🤣🤣🤣
In the meantime I also think an enduro with trail parts is nearly what current trail bikes are. Their frames are nearly enduro like built and weight . So having an enduro and making it fast for daily riding sounds more versatile then a Trailbike
So Pinkbike was right, influencers just wish they could be racers but since they can't, they just record themselves bumbling down trails 😉😉
I know you're joking around, I saw the video from Loam Ranger. But I've been a racer since I was a kid. Gonna start with structured training to get super fit, but only if it's fun. Once super fit I can see if I want to race.
Love me some short travel trail bikes (aka down country). Bentonville is similar terrain to where i ride and a full blown Enduro bike is heavy and over biked. All personal taste but sometimes less is more. 120mm hardtails also great 👍👍👍
It is lighter but also the xc tires make it easy to climb too
upduro is a race format where they dont time the downhill but they will time your climbs
Do what you got to do. XC parts on an Enduro build? Cool. I have a new RM Element with a 150mm Domain, 2.6 Tires, and proper brakes (but that starts life as an XC rig). Colossus looks great!!
Hey mate. I know you love the polygon. I have a Vitus sommet 297. It is also pretty cheap starting from 2500 or sth I guess. I got the crs version that retails for 3700 in the moment. I changed the tires to some with less casing and have my bike know at 15,7kg with steardy dt Swiss rims, i9 hubs and the same rockshox stuff that came with your polygon. Considering that my upgrades in terms of weightsaving where the tires and some carbon handlebars I think I made a pretty good deal with my bike. Maybe you should have a look at that bike :) it is one of the cheapest carbon frames out there and is available in mullet or 29“. And it is honestly the best bike I’ve ever ridden :) love your content btw. I am here since ur very early days and it has been nice seeing the Chanel grow :) greetings from germany
you could buy a reverse angle spacer for remaining the geometrie of the bike
at 6:28 you forgot to update the kg number. Love the videos! I'm thinking of doing something similar to this on my bike.
This made me want to ask is it Enduro or upduro, I'm looking to build a Enduro but going by manufacturer claim weight on parts with axs dropper it will be 11.4kg (about 22.88lb, I guessing best can, trying to convert weight in my head)
Is Upduro the new term for All Mountain?
I ride XC type tyres all the time on my short travel trail bike, my favorite being the vittoria syerra, 840g for a 29x2.4, rolls almost as fast as their barzo but with more edge grip than the agarro, on hardpack and loose over hard you don't need a big chunky heavy enduro tyre, they just make your bike feel sluggish, I ride with people on enduro bikes with enduro tyres all the time, and they're not any faster, unless you ride in a area with lots of sharp rocks then you may need a dual ply tyre.
I was thinking something a little more aggressive for the front. I had a Syerra and Ardent in my attic. Compared them side by side with Ground Control and all 3 have identical tread (maybe 99% the same). Syerra is definitely a good one!
@@EvansMTBSaga I haven't tried the others but you can run the syerra at quite low pressures, I'm about 73kg and run the front at 17 to 18psi, Vittoria tyres seem to last for ages too, I got 2 years out of a barzo on the rear, it still had a few mm of tread left when I replaced it too.
You should try to make a slopeduro bike, just like the meta ht but with a full suspension trail bike, i feelike it could work pretty well for bentonville
please build a slopeduro and test it on a slopestyle course. Btw the weight which you wrote on the screen was both 17.5kg. ❤
Wow that is a huge weight savings! I put lightweight tires on my new hardtail… feels so much faster having less rolling weight 👍 almost too fast on jumps now 😅 great video!
Love it!
Nice set up Evan! Enjoyed this video :)
I added 2.4 scorpions on my Commencal Tempo. It’s now blazing fast… I was surprised about the grip.
Oh heck yeah! I've wanted to try those tires. Most people really don't need the super aggressive tread
you've inspired me to make a new video today and post by the end of the day!!! Thanks my dude!!!!
For sure man! Get after it!
You should put a grippier front tire. Maybe a Specialized Slaughter or Butcher 2.5. Would still get some of the nice efficient rear end with that combo.
Ive ordered a Eliminator and a Purgatory (black Friday $30 a piece)
@@EvansMTBSaga Legit, I hope we can get some tire reviews in the process too.
A budget enduro bike, the bike "yeah I'm only nearly 20kgs gotta problem"
Hey look.. it’s Jared. If it’s your bike, make it what you want if it gets you outside and having fun doing it.
Anyone in the comments know where to buy a Colossus in Canada? As far as I know the only Polygon dealer is MEC and they don't carry it and will not order one for me :/
Conversion shows you went from 17.5kg down to 17.5kg
6:28 you have a typo
Wouldn’t a upduro just be a longer travel trail bike
all nice but the final weight in kg is the same as the stock

Hey Evan! I have a question, I am looking for a bike to race xc and ride bike park and a budget under 2500, do you have any recommendations, thanks! Love your videos ❤
Not sure if you are aware of this but most serious mountain bikers do not adhere to the category of “boxes” that you described. You may purchase an enduro bike but that does not mean you need to ride “enduro”. Most people buy a bike that suits the trails they mostly ride. Then go a step further to change some components to really suit those specific trails.
I watch a lot of your videos and you often get hung up on categories within the broader sport of biking. Didn’t you just say we are all just riding bikes? My $10K bike certainly does not make me better than anyone in the sport. At the same time it does not require me to live up to any standard that other people have decided in their minds based on the price of a bicycle.
Build your bike the way you like and ride the trails that make you happy.
Good words of wisdom! I appreciate it!
Weighed the droppers with different seats tho
Hey Evan. I hope you read this. I'm looking at a Commencal Meta TR V4 or a Polygon Siskiu T8 and I can't make up my mind for the life of me which bike I want.
I know you've ridden both Commencal and Polygon, so you have first-hand experience. I live in Indiana so I don't have many technical trails or jump lines near me. However, my brother lives in Colorado and I plan on traveling more this year to ride more technical trails. I used to ride BMX and want a bike that can handle anything I throw at it around 2k. Please help!
Hey man!! I'm a former bmxer myself so I think the polygon is the better option. It's a bit more agile whereas the Commencal is made for super chunk. I hope you enjoy it!!
@EvansMTBSaga dude thanks! The commencal is a gorgeous looking bike and I feel like that's what keeps drawing me back to it. But fox suspension on the polygon also stands out. I'll get the siskiu T8
Nice video Evan keep up the great content!!
Does it compete with my flatduro? I'm confused maybe it's more like my mountainduro?
🤔
Haha love it!
There are still unexplored possibilities with the categories... at least name wise. Dirt country, Cross jumper, Dutchduro...
Haha I love it! Gonna use that next video
@@EvansMTBSaga Just matter of how ridiculous you'd wish to go. For example we know how cross country bike looks like, but what about cross hip hop or cross metal bikes? Around hill bikes? There are road bikes, gravel bikes, mountain bikes, but no grass bikes... yet 😁
I think you should race for fun and vlog it 🤙

I've been on the drivetrain bandwagon for a while. I love the button on the derailleur to hold the cage open to take the wheel off haha.
@@EvansMTBSaga I've never tried it, but I'll take your word for it! Hopefully one day I, a 13 year old mountain biker, will be able to afford a groupset.
16% and most people walk it? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha 🤣
i love doing stuff like this actually, i put a 2.25 rear Ardent on my norco fluid FS, put a 34 performance cause it's lighter, but I have an assegai 2.50 on the front. what ended up happening is a very light trail bike with a lot of grip on the front, but not as much rolling resistance in the rear so you can kinda drift it easily annd the rear end is kinda twitchy, which I like. the 34 was a big upgrade form the 35 silver it came with. where I dont ever go "light" is brakes, 4 pot deores all round with 203 front and 180 rear. and that's why I have a bigger tire in the front gotta stop fast if you wanna go fast. I believe in my opinion for all round riding 130/120 is the perfect travel, you can do some decent jumps if you land them correctly but you can pedal up quite easily. and for single track it's just ideal.
BTW Evan, if you even plan on visitin Latin America I would be happy to show you some incredible trails in Costa Rica! Would make for a ton of fun and some great content.
Upduro = All Mountain ? 😂
I would throw shorter evo suspension on there
When this dude says "budget", I always think he's in the low $1200ish range for parts, but nope, lol.
Its the cheapest Enduro bike on the market with great suspension. Budget has a different number figure for everyone

I really enjoy the Colossus frame, the linkage design, and the geometry. Feels great

Les go
17.5 kg to 17.5 kg
10:15 if you have to take it easy it already ruined the fun IMO, the whole point of an enduro is to be fairly balanced while remaining absurdly robust. "Upduro" sounds the same like a more heavyduty trail bike, so it seems pointless to me. Unless you're looking for specific geometric characteristics that trail bikes don't have i honestly see no need to do this.
Good point. I do have some nobl TR41 for this build, just been slacking on building them with Berd spokes (February likely haha). So the wheels I used was strictly for the proof of concept
Bottom line is you buy/use a bike that suits 90% of your acutqally riding terrain...so if this is what you ride why would you ride a downhill bike or enduro bike?
Evan why have you gotten so aggressive when building up bikes? I mean literally hammered in those cranks. It just seems unnecessary and you risk damaging the parts.
I always hammer in cranks with a rubber mallet. As for the aggression, I am doing it on purpose because it makes editing it easier
@@EvansMTBSaga ahh ok, thank you for the explanation
