Built from spare parts, apart from the 2k frame 2k in parts oh and some spare parts ....... 🤷♀️ baited
Hey Geoffrey sorry about that. When I first posted the video I had a 90 seconds intro detailing the parts I sold from older builds to obtain the budget, but I cut it after posting because RUclips kinda tanked the video a few days ago.
@@EvansMTBSaga tbh that would be interesting to see, post that as a 2 part short maybe?
@@EvansMTBSaga 😅
How can you count the frame when it’s from parts not all silly
@@EvansMTBSagahi
You should definitly swap the rear shock for a super Deluxe or fox float X / DP X2. The Deluxe is made for cheap xc bike, not enduro !
Yeah, that RS deluxe is garbage... It's really the lowest end, brand name shock on the market. I know he's trying to build on a budget and I get that, I did the same but the Marzocchi Bomber CR coil is crazy cheap and a huge step up from that entry level RockShox shock
@@pwn3d_d1rt yeah, that's true
It'll give him some content if the shock blows up or fails anyways
@@_Zane__ yes but I think it won't fail, it will only really bad perform on the trails
@@germainvandenbossche487 still will be content for him lol
I personally think you will be missing out with that shock. I will never run a non-piggyback shock again after I switched to the fox float x.
i agree, non pippyback for light xc bikes. Otherwise just get the piggyback they ride way better for the increased weight
I always recommend putting one headset cup in at a time, means all of your attention can be focused on one rather than both and its easier to spot something so good job on that - the top cup going in crooked which would contribute to the difficulty during installation
I always install them using a press that sits on the outside of the cup, pressing in a bearing cup on a bearing is justa nono, so easy to damage the bearing or pop through the seat..
especially carbon, aluminum you may get away with it
Super stoked on how these shots came out. Showcases the bike/ your work very well. Now it’s time to SEND ERRRRR!
The upper head set cup was pressed in crooket as hell🫣🫣also the DUB Bottom bracket wasn't really spinning as free as it should, I think the spacers were not correct, also I would double check that chainline, I may be wrong but on the video it looks weird.
Also please press any bearing by the outer bearing race, as far as I could see in the video you did every bearing with the wrong adapter and just gave it some ugga dugga on the inner race. That's how you wear our/ destroy new bearings extra fast.
True, probably should sort that all out properly one day
Love the build and the Channel! Pro mechanic advice: get a correct size dropper as soon as you can. Those require that they reach past the seat tube-top tube intersection. You risk cracking the frame at that junction because the top of the seat tube is supporting all your weight.
Again, love the channel and have been a subscriber for awhile, keep it up!
Awesome! My only somewhat negative comment is that shock! You'll regret that sooner than later but at least it gets you on the trail but seriously, I highly recommend the Marzocchi Bomber CR coil shock for any budget bike that will actually get put through some gnar.
Dpx2 or super deluxe can are great for sends too.
My favourite enduro shocks
Love the vid and bike choice, altho i’d recommend getting a beefier shock, as this one is made for light trail riding and xc, and about that headset cup, i think your main issue was that you didn’t press it in straight
To me it looks like bad head tube tolerances resulting in the cup being pressed in further on one side due to head tube being closer to spec on that side and too tight on the other side.
Sadly issues with head tube and bottom bracket tolerances are common. It's unacceptable. one of the reason I went for Nicolai/Geometron is I know how they make their bikes and they use proper manufacturing process, and have a great reputation. I am happy with my G1, the head set install went smoothly. I've not heard any complaints about the head tubes or BB shells. But Commencal has a bad rep with DHH frames snapping, the Meta frames having issues with bearings getting pushed out, if left too long that will damage the bearing bores and make the linkages rub. Also the internal cable routing is not for me. But it would be interesting to see an expert use a roundness gauge on the head tube bores. Check out Hambini on RUclips, he does that.
Great build vid! It's fun watching somebody put together their dream bike.
For CushCore, it looks like you did the install dry. I did my first install a couple weeks ago and found the most important thing for me was to use some sort of lubricant on the tire. I used a little spray of the general purpose cleaner I use for cleaning my bike, that was just enough to make things go from almost impossible to no problem at all.
I have loved my Commencal Meta HT. Their customer service was excellent too. I bought during a holiday weekend so they called me before they shipped it out to confirm my order and address. The bike has been super comfy as well. I bet that your experience with your bike will be just as good.
That bike will be awesome with a rockshox coil on or a super deluxe ultimate air. that shock won't do the bike justice
Great episode. I love watching bikes being out together. I had a similar issue with my Chris King headset on my Geometron G16. My mechanic put the headset cups in the freezer for a few hours, quick removal, and they went in easily. I guess the freezing made a fraction of a mm difference, but it was enough.
I must say this may be my favorite video since you first started the channel, I'm not sure but it feels more authentic, keep it up
Thanks Jane! I'm trying to chill out on the talking and stuff. I kind of developed an insecurity by making the videos so fast paced in fear of people exiting the video. Two years ago that was the big talking point for RUclips growth - "retention".
I agree !! Best video he did so far!
Good to see somebody also has to work on budget. That is one thing I have always liked about this channel. You show the challenges of having bikes & making videos.
Dude regularly rides 8K bikes, he's barely on a budget mate.
And that’s how you install a permanent headset bearing
Amen! Haha
@@EvansMTBSaga Thats one way to ovalise the head tube. Just make sure if its going in wonky, you straighten it before pressing it in further with anything. Even if its a gentle hammer tap to make it line up, will make it go in much more easily and save you any issues with damaging head tube.
Also its worth noting that using the tapered pieces of metal that sit on the inner race of the bearing, will have no support apart from the inside bearings itself and can sometimes damage the internals. I saw the BB seemed quite tight, spinning once fitted, and that could be because of that. In cases like this, if you don't have the proper fitting metal "guide", its better to use the bigger flat opposite side of the guide and press the bearing in by the outer edge of the cup, whether thats BB or HS, NOT the bearing itself. If you have to press the bearing in with the race, use the outer race as that doesn't press on the bearings themselves interally. All radial bearings, compared to angular contact bearings, have nothing but a fragile internal if you push from the inside.
As a professional mechanic over the last ten years with many workshops around the UK it really is impressive what you have learnt and get up to on these videos.
I really enjoy watching your content, especially the high low bikes and the fix the public bike.
Really loving your builds. You jave a good eye for aesthetics too, really like the color details in this one. Nice job!
If u lined the top headset up properly it would have probable just gone in
Thats amazing! I just ordered mine a week ago and cant wait to get it! I looked at commencal bikes for a long time and thought that the meta sx was a happy medium between the Clash and the meta TR
Grease all mating surfaces is correct..no creaking , no seizing.
Looks nice . Gonna like seeing this thing in action .
If your lower headtube measurement was actually 43.5mm, the headtube would be designed for an EC44 lower headset (even though specs say ZS56). Hopefully the ZS Chris King still holds up well.
I kinda messed up my talking there. The upper was 43.5 and lower was 56
@@EvansMTBSaga I would have returned the frame as the headtube does not seem to be to spec, it should have went in smooth. Check out my review of the headset. I have a vid showing installation of it.
@@mtbboy1993 It would've gone in smooth if he pressed it in straight and not kept going after it went in wonky
@@ollierichards6508 it was straight at the start but went in skewed, then he kept going. if headtube tolerances were good it would have went in straight from the start.
@@mtbboy1993 nah it wasn't fully straight at the start, also whether it's ec or zs doesn't matter that just defines if the bearings are internal or external
Sweet bike! Can't wait to see you rip it around the trails!
Really nice build but I can see you finding the limits of that shock very quickly. A nice super deluxe coil shock would suit that really well.
Sounds like it paves the way for another upgrade video 🤔

I feel your pain - I just sold my Stumpjumper and did not get nearly what I hoped I would. But, new bike day was worth it!
Your channel is easily becoming my favorite. Fantastic grease placement and dropper clamping technique 🤣
Man i would love to just build bikes like you do, i just have too many hobbies and not enough time. So I'll just have to live vicariously through you good sir, keep it up!
Welcome to the Meta Gang! I have a TR in Gun Metal. Commencal makes awesome, durable frames!! Enjoy!!
I love bike build videos with voiceover so much! Thanks!
Sick!! But you should've put the AXS on the new rig plus those high powered brakes you sold!!
He said in a previous video he didn't like the feel of either of them
the trickstuff maxima brakes really arent worth it, and properly set up wired shifting is just as good as wireless. I only use gx axs because the cables get covered in mud during british winter
Stoked you got the bike built up!! Enduros are where it’s at🤙🏼
This bike is sick!!! I wish you great rides on this thing!
Congrats on getting a sponsor, brother! Keep up the good work!
Wow, that is a sweet looking bike! I also just built up a new enduro bike with the same nukeproof wheels!
This is a great video - beautifully shot, the content is detailed and comprehensive, and he's ever-so sincere in his assessment(s) of each step of the build. This guy's easily on his way to half a million + subscribers.
I agree with other people on replacing shock. I put a marzochi bomber coil on my evil offering. Had it custom tuned for my weight and riding style and what characteristics I was after. Made a night and day difference. Avalanche racing does amazing the owner called me to recommend a shock when I was acquiring about a shock
The suspenseful music is excellent. 😂😂 Beautiful bike! I want one, BAD!
Evan i just want to say congratulations. This period when you moved actually had a great impact on you and i can feel it. You just didn't like the previous place that you lived or your previous bike. Some comments said that you made mistakes etc with the yeti but we all make mistakes. Instead of giving up you learned from your mistakes and became better. Im in the sport for around 7 months and I'm riding with my dad who bikes for around 9-10 years and you were the first channel i have ever watched about mtb. Thanks for all the work you are putting on your videos. Keep up the good work
Thanks Bill, that was a really nice comment. Everything about the move was better, especially getting out of the toxic medical job. And for buying wrong bikes and parts, it was a good learning experience 😂
All I have to say is Shigura for the win!!!!
bro I got sooooooooooo happy when you said you would but Seths stuff on
As others have already said: bearings in the freezer and on an alloy frame you can carefully heat up the frame with a heat gun. Makes a huge difference. Also once you get down to really small measurements, those cheap plastic calipers aren't great.
New calipers are on my Christmas list 😁
Cheers for the new rig my dude! Awesome build!
Looking good in the new Fly Gear. That helmet is badass. I would like to say again that I think you made the right choice with the frame finish, it looks great. Next time you struggle getting bearings in, put them in the freezer for 1hr before install. I think I am incapable of getting my bars straight. Every time I ride I look down and think it’s off by a hair. The bike looks fantastic all assembled. I’m digging the blue grips and red levers and it’s a little lighter than you thought it would be. 170/160… nice!
Oh and the Christmas lights look good!
See ya at 5
Thanks for the comment Todd! I will try that out next time, I love learning tips from everyone. I think I have the BB spacer issue figured out for the Canyon. Should be a fun time!!
Finally you got to Commencal! I'm looking forward to a review on it, on the advantages and disadvantages!
I am actively following this brand and on November 29 they have to make anlns of a new frame!
Best bike I have ever seen
Great looking bike! Looking at either the nuke rims or some DT Swiss so be nice to see how they hold up!
I can vouch pretty well for the nukeproofs, for the price genuinely I don’t think there is a better stock wheel set, I used To go through multiple brands of wheels and rims and I’ve had horizons for 18months now and I’ve barely had to maintain them and still running true
Buy Dt Swiss. I bought the horizons and ended up having to swap both rims with a couple months of riding. DT Swiss EX511 or FR541 is the way to go
Wow, this is a nice solid build! And WOW you really had to cram that headset in there lol. Can't wait to watch it being ridden!
i used the same exact shock on my latest turbo levo build. it works pretty well tbh
Awesome to hear! Some people are really upset about my shock choice 🤣
@@EvansMTBSaga i wouldnt be to worried about them. its your bike at the end of the day after all 🤷♂️😂
18:41 You should test it with the chain in the biggest cog and deflated shock. This way you know for sure, this bike does not have a rear ward axle path, but some do, so then the chain will have to be longer, and different suspension designs have the widest part a different part of the travel. So it's best to cycle it trough the whole travel and look to know for sure. But yours starts with level chain stay and axle path pivots to the front so the wheelbase shortens, but with a rear ward axle path like on heigh pivot bikes the bike gets longer further in you are in the travel, so you get more chain growth.
I rode a high pivot bike once and I hate the feeling of the wheelbase growing as the suspension compressed. Felt like I was being pushed forward
@@EvansMTBSaga Interesting, I've not heard that before. I've never tried it.
I know it's an old video, but your issue with the headset top cup was you were going in crooked. You can see on the video it's not straight. I'm a mechanic by profession and install all types of press fit bearings. When you get it started, take a hammer and lightly tap the high side to level, than press in. Love your videos and just subscribed.
I put a ZEB (same gen as yours) on my Turbo Levo back in June. I wanted a similar-class shock and couldn't find one, so I went with a mid-level Fox DPS Performance and it's AWESOME. I definitely think you need something a bit better than what you put on it... the bike deserves better. :)
Keep up the good work brotha
Great video Evan. Always nice to see content that’s budget minded. I have to admit, I’m jealous of the Zeb deal you got. Nice 👍 can’t wait to see what you think of the Cush Cores. Hope you had a great thanksgiving. Now it’s time to send it!!
If something don't fits, just put this thing in refrigerator, and heat think where to put. Metal by heating is expands, and shrinks by cooling. After it will return to normal size
bruh the hedset and bottom bracket kills my soul
It was fine I just think the footage was out of focus 😂
I picked up the horizon as well ! Can't wait to try them when the snow is gone. Lets us know what you think about them !
Evan your quality of your videos have improved over the year I’ve been watching your videos. Keep up the amazing work, but remember to take care of yourself and your family 😎
The background music is so serene
About 25 years ago I pressed some bottom bracket bearing cups into a brand new aluminum Haro Group 1 Elite cruiser frame, and they went in about as tight as the top headset bearing cup in this video. The frame cracked at the bottom bracket after riding it a few times. It shouldn't be more than a few thousandth's oversize (maybe .003" max?) for an interference fit. Otherwise it would stress the aluminum too much, and it could eventually fail. As soon as it started going in crooked I would have stopped right there. They say that some lessons cost more than others, and the good ones are very expensive. ;)
Evan I wish I had your skills. I’m afraid to do anything on my bike. Could you make a video showing how you know what fits on your bike and what doesn’t. I wanna get upgrades but I don’t know if they fit my bike or not
The question is what you want to fit on your bike. There are too many variables to learn or teach them all at once. If you tell me what you want to do, maybe I could help you... I work as a bike mechanic so I know a few things... But I too think it would be nice if Evan posted a few tutorial videos for stuff like that.
Love the new rig Evan! I was expecting to see a set of Title Chrome bars on that bike but I guess the Seth Bike Hacks bars will do. 😃 Enjoy!
I'm trying to keep the costs to a minimum, but the Oneup bars are my absolute favorite bars. I was gonna do the San Quentin with chrome bars but that plan has changed
@@EvansMTBSaga I feel ya. This sport can get ridiculously expensive. I'm way overdue for a gear sale.

Ouch that poor Chris King. Should have reamed the head tube with a flap wheel. Check Hambini to see it being done on a BB shell. Cheers
I need to buy tools like that! Reamers, taps, etc. Very pricey but worthy investment
@@EvansMTBSaga Flap wheels cost pennies. They are just like sandpaper and attatch to your drill. Easy and cheap. Check Hambini RUclips channel. He's famous for fixing pressfit BB shells on bikes. Cheers
@@EvansMTBSaga If the head tube was made to spec it would not be needed, shame Commencal did messed this up too. I will not be getting a Commencal bike nor recommend it to anyone, I've seen issues before but this is just another addition to the list. This is unacceptable. Consumer should not have to repair, if I were you I would have returned it, asked for a refund, I think this frame is a mistake.
I couldn’t help but notice that your upper headset bearing was badly cocked when you forced it in, that was probably the source of your troubles.

Headset bearing as said before.
Tightening the rotor bolts one by one, and not going in a criss cross pattern, applying more torque with each round.
And one thing that would be a good practise, is keeping the motion of the torque wrench even, What I mean by that, is when you wrench, and feel that you are somewhat close to the expected value, dont slow down the movement. This leads to overtightening (and possibly stripping the bolt), as there is enough force to move the bolt, but not enough to make the wrench click.
Just my 2 cents :)
To add to that other comment, torque wrench only needs a singular click, any more and you're still tightening the bolt. Grease on the brake post mount seemed a bit odd to me too. Can see that just attracting grit and stuff
Sheeesh what a good bike there sir evans wish i had more money to buy that kind of frame 😢
The top cup was pressed in crooked, but more importantly I believe your crown race is upside down.
The crown race is the correct way, it can clearly be seen at 10:48 This crown race has a downward taper and is thicker than most. But the inner section that should touch the inner race of the bearing is on top.
Looks great love the polished AL

I love fly racing been bmx racing since 2005 and they were great starting gear
I know right! Do you still race?
@@EvansMTBSaga I’ll go to practices but I haven’t in a while, but I want to race enduro
2:03 I am curious why you had issues with the chain falling off, I have the 11 spd HG versions.
are you using a boost chainring? if so that might be the reason, you should avoid using a boost/3mm offset chainring, cus the chain line will be bad, it will wear the chain and cassette more, and will reduce performance. Just one ride with a boost chainring and I noticed the chain scratched the cassette, the chain dropped on the 50T cog if I just shook or hit the rear tyre just right, so when I backpedaled it dropped. If your frame has the clearance for a 6mm offset/non boost chainring use that. Keep in mind the biggest the chainring the smaller the cassette less secure the chain is, but of course the tooth profile, the chain used, the wear, the bb drop, all play a role in how much the chain wraps around the biggest cog. Hub used can effect the chain line too.
But keep in mind the cassette will wear and cause the chain to be less secure so it might drop when backpedaling at insane speed in the repair stand, which is happening now, but under actual use it does not happen. I currently use a Absolute Black 32T oval chainring with 6mm offset/non boost, chai stay is 453mm long, -32 mm BB drop, DT Swiss 350 Boost rear hub.
love the vids Evan keep up the hard work!
Merry Christmas!!!

They sent me that too but I wasn't sure what it was for 😅
@@EvansMTBSaga it’s soooooo good! Love The videos to man.
this is my dream bike
9:32 If the head tube was to spec and head set cup was the correct size it would have went in smoothly and evenly, it did on my Geometron G1.
You need to make sure the size is correct, and put it on evenly, gently press it, if it goes in skewed it's a sign of bad tolerances in the head tube.
Chris King has great tolerances, so it will be a struggle to get it into a head tube that is oversized, ovalized, and generally just bad tolerances. If the frame head tube is undersized, it might be possible to ream and face it to get it to spec, but if it's oversized then you are screwed.
This was a really Good video specially cool how you transition from a very traditional Bike build video to your kind of style of a more in-depth explanation into how to build. Also I really wouldn’t recommend using a shim for the seat post that is a good way to snap the seat.
Evan you built really beauty bike
You finally got a bottom bracket to work
True! I think I can make the canyon BB work, check back on the Livestream again tonight!
the first time you tried to push the headset in you lined it up wrong but then you back out the pressed and tried again so that's why it went in smoother.
2:33 Add a MegNeg to that Deluxe Select and it'll feel So much better. It's about an $80 upgrade.
Thanks I think I will order that now!
YAY YOU FINALY BUILT IT NICE LAHHH
You get what you pay for. If you're looking for a "good deal" you'll end up with a Deluxe. You should really consider getting a Rockshox Super Deluxe or a Float X2. The deluxe is a entry-level shock.
You should get a super deluxe, the deluxe is an all-out xc shock and your trail bike a beefier shock which is funny
That gap in the fork tube could really be problems in the long run. Dirt and grime could get stuck there and scratch the bearing and the frame.
i barely made it to the premier ended 5 seconds later
