I did a Trestle run on a mostly stock R7 this summer. I've since upgraded the fork to Manitou Mezzer Expert dialed in at 150mm. Protaper A38 handlebars, as well as Protaper Stem. I've been taking the R7 to Spider Mountain on a weekly basis since October, and handles much more differently after the upgrades. My son and I built out an SQ3 not too long ago. I used this to run my first down hill race in at Spider Mountain. If anything, this was the bike that made me second guess my purchasing the R7.
@lexsumiify I had a 2022 Marin SQ 3 and sold it to get my R7. I swapped over all the upgraded parts to the R7 so I never rode the R7 stock. Did you run the stock Shimano MT200 brakes at Trestle? There is now way they would hold up for me at AF, the stock rotors can’t even handle metal pads. The NEW Marin SQ 3 29er is a killer bike and I probably would have got that over the Roscoe if it was available at the time. I needed my HT to be a 29er so I can swap wheel sets around. Thank you for watching and the comments!
@@TheMTB103 I upgraded from the MT200 to BR-M6120, and changed rotors to SM-RT64. Aside from that and the pedals, nothing else changed. To be honest, I had some cheap Amazon pedals that were more for aesthetics than performance so they didn't help much up there. I've since upgraded those as well to PNW Range composite. I think I'm done upgrading....for the time being of course. AF is on my bucket list for next summer, as is Bentonville.
With the brake upgrade the R7 is safe for a bike park! A good rider can overcome the suspension shortcomings. If you have questions on AF of Bentonville we ride there several times a year. Bentonville is only 5 hours from us and 2 of our friends own houses there now. It really is the mountain bike capital. They will have a chair lift bike park in the next 3 years.
Nice summary, I have a similar bike (Slade Trail) and it is the bike I ride the most. Mainly because I fitted a Photon to it, it can go absolutely anywhere.
I bought a R7 during June for my birthday, since then I've upgraded the brakes to the BR-M6120, Deore XT MT800 centerlock rotors, PNW stem and bars (35mm width, 780mm lenght for the bars and 40mm long for the stem), PNW dropper lever, Deore XT shifter, Specialized bennies pedals, Ergon Enduro SM Comp saddle, and the cherry on top would be the 140mm Fox 36 Factory GRIP 2 that I found on Pinkbike. I'm loving the bike so far but I want to upgrade the derrailleur pulleys to XT, add a chain guide/bash guard and set the supension to 150mm to handle the rougher terrain here in Alberta, Canada. It's my only bike for now and I feel that it will be like that at least for a couple years.
Serious upgrades! I will share the link of what I have done to my R7. If I didn’t have the parts already in my garage I would have purchased an R9 for sure
I totally agree! I didn't have the budget for the 9 at the time so going for the base spec and throwing upgrades over the time was the best route for me. Yours is amazing!@@TheMTB103
Trek has some of the best component offers for complete bikes right now. If you think you may only be riding gravel type roads and not really getting into MTB trails then look at the Trek Marlin line up, that will save you a little bit of money.
Hey man. So I have a new Roscoe 7, what do I need to do to it to make it a monster?! I couldn’t afford the 9. I already trout the spank oozy trail handlebars on it and new Shimano 4 pot brakes. Overtime, What should I add to make it more DH.enduro compatible? I’m really wanting that all around do it all bike. Again I couldn’t afford a full suspension and I got an absolutely killer deal on this Roscoe 7. This is my first MTB
Hell yeah! Glad you love the bike… the big things you need to upgrade on the R7 would be the suspension and the brakes. Other than that all other parts are just your preference- bars, grips, pedals, stem. Save up for a quality fork and brakes and you are set. Feel free to check the video I made with my upgrades - Tyson
@adinee88 yes! I lead a group ride every Friday morning and once a month on a Saturday with Trek. I post all my rides in DORBA and Mountain Biking in DFW FACEBOOK pages- join in sometime!
@@TheMTB103 I'm going to check you guys out!! Right now, I'm just researching and checking the DFW area FB for medium sized bikes I may be able to scoop up. I miss MTB'ng!
@@TheMTB103 Thanks Brother! I'm Looking at this Scott Genius 950, Medium size, it's a 2020 model. I don't mind because the price is right. I know for what I want and within my budget range, I would NOT be able to get into the cockpit of a Trek. I'm really okay with it. Our DFW FB Marketplace has some solid picks. Trail style bikes.👍🏽
One good thing about the paint scheme… black nail polish fixes all scratches lol - we did a video on ebike ownership over thanksgiving in Bentonville… will be out soon
Of course, a pro rider can ride a wal mart bike down a black tech trail with no problems. The stock R7 is not capable for an enduro or bike park right off the rack for the majority of MTB riders. I wouldn’t even recommend it to new riders who will be moving at slow speeds. The R9 is capable right off the rack from Trek.
Take a shot every time Tyson says, "it was a blast" 😂
Awesome video! Definitely still riding my Roscoe 9!
@mattyaxtive thank you! We both got our 1st Roscoes at the same time years ago, been great to watch your channel grow.

Riding Roscoe's blind is the best. Give it a go!
Don’t get too Bucky riding blind
How does it fare on normal rough road with zero elevation ? Anything you suggest within 500 dollars ?
