    Swapping out stock Shimano 200 brakes with magura 4 piston front, 2 piston rear with 203/180. Ican Carbon wheels from my previous San Quentin 3. And a Marzocchi Z2 bomber 140mm. No muss no fuss, a basic lower/mid-level hardtail that could handle just about anything.

      That bike will rip! I love my R7 build- it’s my go to bike for local trails here in Texas - why did you leave the San Quentin 3? I made the change because I needed my HT to be a 29er and the Marin was 27.5 only

      Thanks ✊
      SQ3 is a solid performer going down the trail...👍 BUT....climbing and doing street trials, it's way too slack at 64 degrees. Also, I am swapping out the stock 29ers for 27.5s. I'm not a fan of the 29". Rode a few different brands, not my kind of feel. I like twitchy, quick steering bikes, plus the 29er is a bit too high up for my liking as well. @@TheMTB103

    This is great!
    I am headed to Angel Fire with my son in July. I've got a lot of people telling me the Roscoe 7 isn't enough bike for it. Guess I'll find out when I get there.

    • @TheMTB103
      @TheMTB103  Год назад +1

      @lexsumiify - Not sure if you are in the Roscoe owners forum on FB or not... someone messaged me about going to AF on the R7. The Shimano MT 200's won't hold up at AF, even on the greens. You will have to take lots of breaks to give them a fighting chance. If you have not yet upgraded the brakes, I would do so before AF. The shop there on site is really fast and reasonable pricing, but they could have your bike for half a day to swap our the brakes. Depending on your skill level, the stock R7 suspension will handle the blues and greens... but you will be pushing the Recon to it's limit for sure. Let me know how your trip goes!

    • @TheMTB103
      @TheMTB103  Год назад

      Also, expect a rain delay pretty much every day at AF in July. It's monsoon season there during July. Usually and hour break each day.. perfect to stop and eat lunch.

    Roscoe 7 is a bang for the buck. I guess mine is a 2024 Model currently on sale here at Trek Australia, Satin Black Olive in M/L to be exact. How's the feel of the short stem with a high riser bar? I'm planning to replace the cockpit next Month first and the rest just needs to be worn off all of the stocked Deore Parts and maybe I'll go with the SLX group set except for the shifter which I'm thinking of XT upgrade in the future. Currently, I'm running tyre inserts on my wheels because I'm still using the stocked Line 30 wheel sets and Stamp 2 pedals as an initial upgrade to those cheap pedals.

      Nice! The sales on all Trek bikes are crazy right now. I like the short stem and high rise bars… the M/L R7 has a longer reach than my other bikes so the shorter stem helps me make the bike a little more playful

    • @TheMTB103
      @TheMTB103  Год назад +1

      @kishencua a 170mm will not work on the Roscoe or on the Marin frame I purchased it for. It was an experiment I tried during Covid when parts were hard to find. I changed out the internals in the Yari to make it a 140mm and it’s perfect for the bike.

      I just prefer the look and feel of 35mm bars. Probably because I ride more gravity and not XC. Many viewers were upset I said the 31.8 bars sucked. IMO they just looked cheap especially when paired up with the XC style stem that came stock on the bike.
