The consistency of the 300mm beating the 200mm, is clear. It might be due to increased confidence, but not bouncing around as much might be key as well. Seeing what you are doing makes me want to brush off by mullet BigHit and give it a go once more.
Back in the olden days, we called this monster trucking down a trail. Just blasting through everything, not across everything lol. A friend had a Karpiel Disco Volante with a Shiver that would give us this feeling. Never got to try the Super Monster. Wish I could have.
That's a cool comparison. It would be interesting for you to include your friends in this also and let them experience the 300 on film and see which one they feel more comfortable with etc
@@JordanBoostmaster You could get a custom frame done pretty cheaply by Marino (few hundred bucks I think?), so it could be designed specifically for that fork
yeah man, old school rules! Love this series. I`ve built 2002 Specialized Enduro with same decade components and smashing it the whole season in different bikeparks. It still alive and so far is my favorite bike (I have 7 of them)
I love pre 07 marzocchi. Anytime I see then in good condition for sale I scoop them up. Glad to see that monster in good hands. I'm also not surprised to see the Boost monster out performe the Maiden
I wonder if just 50mm extra travel would've sufficed. 12 inches of travel is quite a bit, it would be interesting to test 1-inch at a time between 8 and 12 inches of travel to figure out what's truly optimal. Also, frame sizes of 120, 135, and 150 are referencing wheelbase in CM, right? If so, do you think getting a long 150cm wheelbase on the boostmonster would make it feel "less tall" and more like the Maiden but with more travel? Another thing I wonder is if different amounts of travel front and rear would have benefits similar to the staggered wheel diameter "mullet" bikes.
Jordy ma man, you realy got your hand around this 3K suspensions prototip.. It is wild to watch when the fork goes all the way down.. Keep it RAD man 🤠
I think this comparison shows the Boostmonster's edge. Just a sweet Old Skool rig, shredding it. Excellent looking trails as well. You BC lads are spoiled for choice!! Cheers, mate!
Awesome! The line choices that 300mm opened up must be considered on timing too! Also, high center of gravity means more stability, since it's harder to tip you out. Imagine trying to balance a broom with the palm of your hand, instead of a pencil. It also makes it harder to turn in, since you need to start the movement sooner. You really should put some money on a custom steel bike with modern geometry and 300mm of travel. Even if someone just made the Bosstmonster longer and slacker on the likes of Mondrake's. Cheers!
I wondered if the smaller wheel size would translate into poorer traction in corners? There oughta be more tread on the ground with the bigger wheel size. Awesome video - love to see old bikes being kept alive!! I wonder if your experience might warrant brands building "super DH" bikes with 300mm travel? That extra travel preserves rims, frames... riders lol. With the huge features out there I think it makes sense.
I don’t think the amount of tread matters as much since it’s about the same but I think the difference would be because the smaller wheel gets bumped around by stuff more

It's good to see you don't need anything like new to have a fun effective bike (if you know what you're doing) and there's the satisfaction that you made this rather than an off the shelf bike.
It probaby wouldn't be possible to make the geometry modern without making the bike very, very weird but it'd be possible to make something close to what'd be considered modern

id love to see you compare it to your maiden with a 29" set up, or at least a mullet with a 29" up front. I think that would change the results a lot. really cool video
Cool vid, I have a modern 29 enduro off of a 06 Giant DH as my last bike so I love these vids. I havnt ridden the DH in 3 years now I want to after watching this. On strictly rough DH there is something about a heavier bike that I kinda like, it smooths out stuff you would deflect off on a light bike, you basically just smash it 😂😂
I'd love to see a modern huck monster. A lighter more modern geo boostmonster or something like the evil imperial which is essentially a hardtail dirt jumper with downhill forks. They probably wouldn't be any good for competition but for freeride and park fun, they'd be sick. Maybe I should put my dh forks on my honzo ESD? Love the work Jordan.
What do you suppose it would require to reduce the weight on the Norco? Do you think there could be anyone out there to machine thinner lighter forks which could accept the Marzochi inserts for example? Maybe a custom air shock for the rear, probably you could save a small amount of weight with the cranks those cranks kinda looked middle of the road at a glance...?
Dream outcome would be to have custom, modern geo frame made for the fork and rear suspension. I mean, keep the linkages and shock, but in a longer, slacker package.
I'm blown away how much faster the Boostmonster was in some of those sections! Damn that bike is sick :D Sun Peaks always looks like a great time too! Cheers buddy, YEEWWW!!!! 😃👊🤘
Gotta wonder how much is psychological too. Knowing you have endless travel is a confidence booster. You should do a comparison to show how many times you surpassed 200mm of travel on that fork!
I kinda wanna know like. yeah it can go faster. But does it feel "Or is it" safer? Cause going faster and crashing doesn't really result in "faster" overall. I guess technically I don't think a few seconds here and there is gonna matter when just going out to ride for fun. But if we are talking about DH racing. Does bigger mean faster WITH less chances of falling over. I really wish you could get a nice slack bike with those on it. Just to see. Maybe find a shocks sponsor and have them make a custom 300+mm fork on a newer bike xD

I think a full 29er dh bike may well negate the extra 100mm travel on the boostmonster due to better role over and not getting hung up on square edge hits as easily. Would be a cool comparison
It would be sick to partner with a frame builder and get a custom Ti or steel frame made to adapt the 300mm fork to modern geo to drop the CoG and and lose some weight. Then you could have more coil shock options if you can define the clearance. Then while you're at it, throw a Pinion gearbox in there :D
I wish someone would build a frame just for these forks! Modern geometry but with 300mm on the back and corrected angles to suit those forks. That would be quite some bike!
The high speed rebound issue could actually help you. Like say it’s you do a big huck into a rock garden. The suspension will decompress quite fast, which bends you arms more, and then the suspension can take big hits; While still in a big compression.
Put the boostmonster in the maiden please! Yes, the rear doesn't have 300mm, but getting a custom frame will be a lot more expensive and will take a lot longer. That being said, it still would be awesome! Did you ever think about contacting Pinkbike (Grimmdonut like project) or Alutech (german bike maufacturer that build their own grimm donut version because pinkebikes took so damm long) to get a modern low and long frame manufactured for a 300mm fork?
