      @@ytmike100those lowers still have a good bit of clearance I bet you could squeeze a 27.5 wheel in there. But the axle to crown is already so long so trying to get a proper head tube angle without a crazy high bb height would be tough and a bigger wheel would make that even trickier!

      80's to 2000's was a massive change but 2005 to now 2023 is not even worth mentioning weve peaked. everything has stagnated / got pushed in the wrong direction...f1 cars where peak in 2004 - 2005 , Josh Benders 2000 karpiel 14'' bike is pretty much the peak of what drop bikes will ever achieve still 23yrs later .
      you could swap between a 2007 norco and a 2023 giant or santa Cruz etc and barely even notice the difference because the fundamental things haven't changed. you lads make it sound like its 1950's tech vs 23' tech 💀🤣.

    • @MarvinWestmaas
      @MarvinWestmaas Год назад

      That's not entirely true, but it greatly depends on what terrain people are riding.
      Where I live, you're fine with 2 decade old xc bikes. Since most of the trails are still the same ( pancake country ).
      But just looking at the xc races, two decades ago you still had hardtails because they were 'fine' for the course. Now xc races are ridden with full squish bikes exclusively, because the courses have gotten more demanding on the equipment ( bikes ).
      Ofc there are other innovations which I do look forward to, seeing they are already there in high end bikes now but haven't trickled down the market really. Things like SRAM Eagle transmissions, or heck I would love to try something with an internal gearbox.
      Suspension wise / geometry wise, I am not in need of the latest and greatest since I don't ride the terrain those innovations are tailored to. That being said, if I ever do go full squish because I can get it cheap and I have a place to ride where it benefits from it, I will go straight to high pivot and skip the older frames from a while back.
      It's not that bikes have peaked already, it's more that most people riding them do not need what the marketing tells them they need. And the few who do are acutely aware, because they ride the places where the new stuff shines.
      Which is perfectly visible here in this video, since the less slack and shorter geometry do make these big drops a bit more challenging.
      On the other hand, 99% of people can push their own skills a lot before actually needing a 'better bike'.

      @MarvinWestmaas Год назад

      Guess we're both a bit right then :)
      Though even the DH bikes have changed in geometry ( I been told.. I mean I never actually ridden an actual DH bike.. I mean the highest elevation here is like... 60m? and then you go down again... and up again.. and down again.. and up again.. not something really suited for a DH bike ).
