I just got the nokta legend and found a gold ring from a grassy patch outside my home. I've been over it loads using several detectors.
I have a Whites XLT and a laser Hawkeye.
I'm from the UK and been detecting since around 1975.
I chose The Legend because you get much better value with the pro pack.
I kept looking at the Equinox 800 but thought I would need to then buy a better shaft and a part to strengthen the coil lugs plus buy a 6" coil.
    So no brainer choice really.
I've seen videos bashing the Hawkeye but it still works well for me and if the display says you hit a £1 coin believe me it's £1 or £2 coin 🤠
It's rubbish on the beach though lol

I've used the 800, deus 1 and now deus 2(although only less than 15 hours so far) and I'm a fan of all of them. I have places that I love using my 800, and yet others were I love using the XP detectors. Site conditions are a huge factor in what detector I use on site that day. All great machines. I can't speak about the legend since I haven't used it though.

I think the best detector is the detector each individual feels comfortable with and understands.
Also each of our grounds or beaches we detect are made of different soils. Fresh water/salt water.
    So i would say.......
    "EACH THERE OWN"
    AND "SOMETIMES MANY" 👍💞👍
thanks for sharing and sharing yr experiences with all of these wounderfull machines✌, it helps people see some differences in the machines. Also depends on how indepth each person wants to get. Ive seen some people start out and get the most expensive , million button machines, and get turned "off" to the hobby because they had a machine that they were "overwhelmed" with. I feel the more a person learns tones, learned thier settings, learned thier soil in each area and progress from there with thier machines. Some people feel more comfortable with "simple".
    And it dosent overwhelm them.
There are just soooo many factors and soo many individuals to pair up.
Start out at yr comfort level and progress from there👍💞💞💞💞👍

I wholeheartedly agree! It’s tough for me to step away from the equinox because I have spent so much time mastering it. Starting fresh is difficult and disheartening at times. But I guess I spend so much time focusing on the ground that I have a curiosity about ceiling. A user who masters their machine is most formidable, but what is the capacity of the given machine. I do believe there are so many great objects left to be pulled even in public parks but they are down or they are congested. My audience has blessed me with a small pay check each month from video ads. It makes most sense to reinvest and try to answer the burning question in my head! I hope that makes sense!

In my opinion, the durability of the Nox needs to be rated lower. Broken ears, holes in the shaft which can fill with sand/dirt over time, making the detector heavier, flooded control box, wobbly coils due to the "spongy" washers wearing thin... IMO the detector works well, but it breaks far too easily.

    • @meinereiner8137
      @meinereiner8137 2 года назад

I think the same.. Because my nox is now 2 years old. Had broken coil ears after 1,5 years, the shaft is wobeling after a half year , had to buy one from Detecd Ed, the arm cuff is broken also. The headphones also breaks. New ones cost's 180 Euro but there are on amazon the same without the minelab logo and other brand name but the hardware is the same for around 50 - 70 Euro.. Exactly the same.
Only the Control Box is the same. But I don't think it wills last more then 3 or 4 years. 1000 Euro here in Germany + Detect Ed stem 150 Euro. New coil 300 Euro. And All the other little bits and pieces. It's alsmost the same prize of the deus 2.
Iron separation is also not the best.
I think it depends on the ground conditions but my hunting places are littered with iron the last 2000 years. And the nox is struggling on those places The old Deus 1 doing much better on such fields.
Also my field have very sandy soil. If the field is fresh ploud, you can't go searching with the nox because there are no good signals, always broken. This got better after 2 months when all the ground settled down. In this cases I use all ways the old deus.
Not misunderstanding. I like the nox because I had many good finds with this maschine also my first gold coin but the overall build quality is very bad.. The 250 Euro simplex had better build quality then the 1000 euro nox 🥴

your sense of humour is off the charts haha. Really like your channel. I'm currently looking to upgrade from the simplex to one of these 3 detectors. I'm edging towards the nox. i think the Deus is going to be too much of a jump from my current simplex with a price tag which as you say may not be worth it for me as a novice. the nox seems to fit not far below the deus at a better price and as you say its hugely capable.

I'm a total noob & picked up a Nokta Legend, its been a steep learning curve to say the least (My first detector & I've had it less than a week). I live in Western Australia where the Nox 800 has much less of a premium, and initially it was my first choice, but despite my attempt to look after equipment I find I can be a bit rough unintentionally, so I was looking for a tank, which I think the Legend is. If the build quality of the Minelab would have been comparable I'd have gone for the nox. I'm loving the Legend so far & its built like a brick out house, and functionality seems too close to call.

Its true to a certain point but not every detector are equal. Knowing your machine and the experience plays a big role yeah but the machine itself has its limits and even if its ran by really experimented detectorist, it will still limit its user. There are better and more suitable machines than other but I agree with you that "the best" detector is a personnal and relative topic.

There is a best, but it’s not an all time best. Some detectors function better in certain circumstances, however there has to be one who’s newer tech is superior. It’s just evolution, and we already know some people have a problem with science. So no point arguing with data/ and real world experience. Just have fun and find stuff with whatever ya have( but ya will have better results with better technology

I'm a wet saltwater beach hunter and I'm favoring the Equinox 800 to replace my AT PRO. Waiting to see Legend's saltwater update first. If they don't get it right I'm going for the Equinox. Deus II like you said isn't that much better to justify the much higher expense. Plus don't like all the wireless stuff and multiple batteries to replace periodically. Probably expensive to have repair people change them out.

I don’t own neither detector but according to all the videos I’ve seen on RUclips so far I think the Nox is king even with a high price point , value should matter of you want the best detector , that’s just my opinion, I’m in the market for a new detector and I’m leaning towards the 800 , but I’ll continue to watch more videos till I decide but as off now I still think the Nox remains king

    • @midnightcoil

600 the 800 is a cash grab with the same functions. Gold feature is already included on the 600 multi, the 2 extra notches of swing speed on the 800 are only useful if you over swing your unit. Average swing speed is captured under swing speed 3 on the 600. Save your money.. it's not worth 150 more for the 8.

It IS worth money for the 800 because along with the added capabilites it also gives you some pretty decent low-latency wireless headphones and a 250 dollar value wifi adapter for your fav corded phones(nice wireless backup!) like gray ghost or whatever you have. or earbuds. And the added capabilities list is longer and more in depth, even Merrill says in one of his videos it's worth the extra.

Cheers for your advice - I rate you as a good faith "tester" in my opinion :-)
    However -
You rate the Legend as "OK" on 'Saltwater Beach' - Really? With all the noise and falsing? - This Score and Comment should reflect reality. Even if you find the falsing "acceptable" in your opinion - NONE of your other top rated detectors are marked differently to show them superior in this area - even though the other top three detectors DO NOT "FALSE" on wet sand. ??
I do indeed see the Legend as GREAT VALUE - but I would mark it as BELOW AVERAGE on wet sand, because that is the truth. IMO.
    Any comment ??

The stability setting takes away the chatter. We had the chatter in this video, but it went away with the adjustment. ruclips.net/video/9beKA-9VrhQ/видео.html . We took a deeper dive in this video ruclips.net/video/F7I0ugBrVoQ/видео.html and although there were issues with the pinpoint, iron and the target ID, we wound up pulling some great stuff. I have several more videos shot that are not released yet. Keep in mind there are other detectors that I have rated higher in the wet sand but the Legend is indeed capable if not quirky. Thanks for the kind words!

Thank you for taking the time to reply :-)
      Most Kind.
In the future - & At your convenience if possible -
If able to do so, would you be able to test what exactly the "stability" does ? Or maybe get a comment from Nokta?
It may be that the "stability" is a type of electronic filter/processing that is not required on any other detector as it is already "Inbuilt" on the others? - If so, then there is no need to worry about any negatives.
But - is it an "extra limit/filter" which would make the legend "less" effective in say depth / discrimination etc than other detectors that do not have this setting?
      Just a thought.
Thank you again for the info and the reply :-)

Someone got me a metal detecting nyc sticker that peeled off since I heavily use that machine. The legend is not bad at all although I don’t think it makes sense for you if you have an equinox and a Deus 2. If you notice I have the legend rated highest but that is largely dependent on value. The saltwater problems are workable with the “stability” setting. As I see it right now and this could change the Legend is 97% of an equinox and the Equinox is 98% of a Deus 2. Where I have not tested the Deus 2 yet is trashy parks and New York has plenty of those lol! That is where the equinox shines brightest! And at 635 dollars The Legend BLOWS BOTH AWAY in value!

Take the Deus to a field with mostly iron trash and run deep hc however u like and there’s no comparison. I can tell you the main thing I like more is that,as you know with the nox 80% of the time when you get a high tone blip it’s a false signal. Wether it be deep iron or ground. So I’m stopping constantly to check these ghost signals. I’d say the Deus does that so much less it’s not worth comparing and from what I understand the legend doesn’t really do that so much either. I know for you, since you’re mostly in heavy modern trash the nox still makes sense. I’m still personally better with it in modern stuff but in fields or old trash it’s crazy how many more signals. Not just a little better. That being said I don’t know if it’ll ever be better in the modern because it’s so sensitive it will pick 1/4 pieces of 14 gauge wire. (Which I actually found at 4”) Long story, if you go back to that field where you had the Deus one in a recent video that you were digging a ton of iron. Try deep hc with mid to high audio response. I’ve found 5 tone and a 5 AR is working amazingly.

As far as heavier iron Deus 2 9” coil should get 15 out of 10.
Ergo- Deus 2 should get 12 out of 10.
    All could find the dose.
Some could find some other won’t.

It IS all an opinion. There are no triple blind peer reviews in metal detecting. I do try to keep it as much data driven as possible. And I’m committing to using all of these detectors extensively over the next few months. The bottom line is the one that you see me using after this period is what I truly think is best. Although I can imagine a scenario where best is site specific (iron, trash, etc.).

A friend who surfs there said one day while surfing he collected three watches so stuff gets lost there. I walk around all the time, i ground balance (which I don't know if I'm doing properly), I set recovery level to 1 and that feels weird, I keep getting loud sounds with every swing...I'm trying to get extra depth because it's a surfing beach so I figure waves smash everything down deep. I'm just wondering if you can help because right now I hate ny equinox 800 every time I visit this beach I feel like it's broken and I should smash it on the rocks.

Found thousand of gold objects with my nox 800/600...i don´t really care which is the best metal detector in the world. Tomorrow i can hunt with a Safari or another old Minelab MD and i know that i will find some gold....easier. The durability? Never broken a coil ear. Never broken the shaft (but my friend broke the simplex+ shaft clasp at the second day) never flooded the unit (the second generation has a hole at the terminal shaft). The nox is one of the most seller MD, so you can imagine that defects could rise consistently....like the Apple for the smartphones. I´m waiting for a new Minelab MD, because i think that the games are not changed yet, and there is no reason for me to use a "surrogate" like The Legend or a complicated and overloaded machine like XPD2. See you later...;)

So who died and made you a RUclips Metal Detector Expert and the voice of the All on High?.... Oops!!! Did I forget to mention that you own 20 metal detectors 🤔?
A Monitized RUclips channel and a subconscious need to be a "Somebody"?...😒. "Here's MY opinion" on the latest This and the latest That" ( Even if I look like a squirrel chasing every nut that falls out of an acorn tree when the wind blows!!!🐿️😝)....Yeah Buddy, Words have consequences (Just ask Chris Rock).... Folks, be careful what you buy based on who you listen to. Or YOU might be having bought 20 metal detectors... 😆. Looking at the bright side.... You'll become a "Expert" Metal Detector Buyer" worthy of giving opinions!!!!😒

@@drinkely8235 😝 You're commenting on something that was said a year ago??? 🙄!!!!
Just so you know, Merrill and I get along just fine and have a lot of respect for each other 🧐.
So I'll utilize a little of my 1st Amendment Rights and politely suggest you go pound sand 😡!!!
