Some people say that "bust a nut" is a reference to specific New York slang meaning to punch someone in the head - but that's just what I've heard. He also mentions teaching her to "hold heat" alongside saying people usually just treat her poorly and beat on her.
my favourite activity these days is opening up a reaction video from you on the background and listening to it while working. and you have made me work more efficiently bob so thank you. i yelled out "let's goooooo" when i saw the notification i hope my roommate doesn't think i'm weird

just discovered your channel while i was looking for someone reacting to DOOM you have really good reactions and i love how you go back to read the lyrics
I fucking love your videos man, they make me relive my favourite albums again, while at the same time showing me your perspective which never disappoints.
Kookies was done dirty. The new beat was fine, but the original beat used on the initial releases of the album sampled Sesame Street and is probably my favorite MF Doom beat of all time.
Once Christmas rolls around, I highly suggest adding the DOOM Christmas Album into your holiday rotations lol. It's unofficial, but Cookinsouls, a dj on RUclips mixed the lyrics with some Christmas inspired songs. One of my favorite things to ever come from RUclips. DOOM mixes are consistently great, dude's flow is so awkward it fits on nearly every beat. No one quite like the Villain.
That mix is absolutely flawless, probably listened to it 30-40 times each year around christmas since 2018, every single track is in my opinion better than the originals (Naughty or Nutz and Wonderfull especially). Such an amazing vibe all the way through and so well mixed together
Best mash up ever. It’s amazing. But Cookin Soul isn’t a “DJ on youtube.” He’s a legitimate producer from Spain with tons of releases on Bandcamp and on vinyl.
There are some good tapes out there, but contrary to what you say it's painfullty clear that his flow doesn't just fit any beats due to his"awkward" flow. There are many remixes going around where te lyrics are dropped totally wrong.
The ruby line in beef rap is him saying he smokes up and the disappears to the lab to work where he’s getting drunk and coming up with good shit like a Buddha monk, and people wouldn’t have guessed he’s in there getting lit while working so “who’d a thunk it” hahaha love this shit
If you enjoy the production, he has a series of instrumental releases called Special Herbs. There's 9 releases I think. The DB Cooper reference is a bit deeper in hindsight since he would have people perform shows as him, so if you went to an MF Doom show you couldn't be sure it was him. Really an enigma. I'd be interested in seeing your take on Dalek, specifically their album "Absence". They bring in a lot of sounds that are atypical for hiphop.
@@AreamtheGreat all amrikkkan badass is his best from a songwriting pov, b4da$$ is his overall best lyrically, and 1999 is the one most love the most, summer knights was good and 95 till infinity is one of his best songs but as a whole its not his best work.
Love your channel Bro, I'm a long time DOOM fan but listening to you break down the lyrics in your videos from your perspective, makes me appreciate them all over again, like I'm hearing it for the first time, mad respect to you sir!
DOOM has so many great albums and some are realeased under different aliases that are incredible. Vaudeville Villian by Viktor Vaughn and Take Me to Your Leader by King Gheedorah are both DOOM under different aliases. Special Herbs and Spices with MF Grimm, Black Basterds by KMD, and Operation Doomsday are must listens as well. Thank you for loving DOOM as much as you do.
This just came to mind upon seeing you react to "One Beer": If one day you get to "Champion Sound" by J Dilla and Madlib (which I hope to rather be sooner than later), you should not listen to the version available on streaming services as of right now. Get a copy of the original release instead. Two crucial tracks had to be changed for later releases due to sample clearing issues. I seriously urge you to keep this in mind. You'd be missing out on two amazing tracks.
I love your channel. I like how you really dig into the meaning of the lyrics. With that being said, have you done "Food and Liquor" by Lupe fiasco? His lyricism would definitely send you down some rabbit holes lol.
This album truly made me a fan of “found audio” incorporated into music. The hours of time DOOM spent splicing all those cartoon clips, and making tell its own story is crazy. Other artists try (Earl, Ye, JPEG, Westside Gunn) but the only one to be on his level with sample digging is Madlib.
I think the flat production of Beef Rap is on purpose, because it uses comic book cartoon sounds as part of the beat. It's supposed to sound old, crackle, and melodramatic like the old movies and cartoons he samples for the beginning. Essentially saying you're now in the realm of superheroes and supervillains.
Do not forget this is his most easy album to follow. Born Like This is on a whole other level of lyricism. That to me is where DOOM flexes his lyrical capability the most.
“Shoulda deaded it from genesis instead of hitting the gunniesses” is her saying she should have killed it from the start instead drinking to numb the pain she felt to get through it. From the track Guinnesses
Let’s freaking go!!! Love this album so so so much!! I’m 32 and I still listen to this album I first heard it when I was 15. I can remember exactly what I was doing and where I was in my life.
One of my favourite albums of all time. I have almost every sample and skit memorized. Can't wait. This and madvillainy came out 2004. Mm food in March and madvillainy in November. Vaudeville Villain came out in September of 2003 too. That's his most productive period. Also, it's lower priority but before the mask he was KMD with his brother in the nineties. Great conscious rap. The villain was his revival/return
Strangely feels like a TV show. I never noticed that until now. He adds his own spin after or before each song to show samples from shows. In between these songs are commercials that involve some sort of eating/hip-hop enthusiasm. Really cool concept that i didn’t even know about until now lol.
The thing you were saying starting at 28:56 reminded me of an interview Danny Brown did talking about his favorite rappers/albums, Madvilliany being one of them. He said, "I never knew you could make an entire album without hooks and have it sound that good. DOOM broke the rules of songwriting. Madvilliany broke rules to me. I'm all about that."
Amazing reaction, MM..FOOD is such a great album in DOOM's catalogue. One other album I'd recommend checking out is under his King Geedorah alias, "Take Me To Your Leader". It's not so much a DOOM-centric album as it's mostly guest features, but it's an excellent showcase of his production abilities and is one of my personal favorite albums that he's created. A full reaction would be a dream but it's worth a listen even casually.
Fig leaf yeah you hit the nail on the head. The way he makes music and beats in particular is fine so meticulously and each piece is found, mixed and matched to make an amazing dish or beat at the end. It’s not like a beat off a production line. The best producers make beats that no one other than them can make. Unique
spot on analysis of his character's motivations. he starts off his first album as MF DOOM with a verse that goes "bound to go three plat, he came to destroy rap"
This was so good! I also love Potholderz and personally an absolute favorite beat of mine from any producer. Idk anything about music theory but the beat sounds unresolved at the end of each loop, which matches the vocals.
I’m at the very beginning of this video, but I ADORE this album and I’m so fucking excited because I’m so bad at picking up lines in music so I’m here and I’m ready to learn!
Man I been listening to DOOM for many years now. What I love is every time I listen I hear something new. It's impossible to know what he means all the time especially if you don't have a firm grasp of NY slang and the references he uses based on shows, comics, and other sources.
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. So I was super happy when I saw the notification that you decided to do a reaction to it, I love your analysis so I can’t wait to see what you think of the storytelling along with the production. DOOM has some of the most unique sampling and beats in all of hip-hop to me.
32:45 "A herb got caught with four and five", meaning that a herb (a loser) took the 4th and 5th beers from the six-pack...that bar had nothing to do with weed (although I'm sure DOOM smoked some when he wrote it).
I know this is over a year old, but I really need you to know that Rap Snitches are Knishes because they're hard on the outside but soft on the inside.
@@royalwarlord2342 no clue where you’d be seeing that. There’s a reason why this is the second DOOM album he’s reacting as most people requested this after madvillainy

one of my favourite albums of all time. so happy to see you really dig in and appreciate the record. can’t wait for whatever next DOOM project you get into, even if it’s another couple months down the line. easily has one of the best discographies in rap in my opinion. whether you go to his other aliases next like Viktor Vaughn or King Geedorah, or finish the other albums under the DOOM moniker like Operation Doomsday and Born Like This. really no wrong way to go.
Glad to see you checking out DOOM again! A lot of people don't realize that MM.. FOOD was also accompanied by a large food drive where people seeing DOOM on tour were encouraged to bring canned food which was donated to various shelters. Thus, he "got the only tape that come with a free hot plate". As he puts it "Never forgot when I was very broke, took the Henny straight couldn't afford to cop the cherry coke", DOOM is constantly reflective of the time he spent, as he would describe it, nearly homeless (though most would just call homeless). Kon Karne is really just a song reflecting on his past, talking about how he is giving back, and dedicating the song to his brother. Before donning the mask, DOOM was in KMD which was largely a religious rap focusing on activism and black issues. While a part of KMD, DOOM organized community events giving back even as a teen/young adult, leading to a street in his neighborhood to be named after him. I feel like "There's a lot going on behind the surface" is a perfect way to summarize DOOM. When watching the original Madvilliainy, I had felt somewhat annoyed at you initially brushing off the lyrics but seeing the afterthoughts softened me up a bit more and seeing it number 1 on your year end list was pretty cool. (also I've never seen anyone say anything about the "It's a fued so don't be in no tv mood, every week mystery meat, seaweed stewed" is a body disposal reference) edit: prob should've watched further in but Mr. Hood by KMD is 100% checking out especially if you enjoy samples being worked into the music. originally the group got the idea from the album from a english learning tape with a bunch of weird phrases. Not sure if its popular enough to watch on the channel but would love to hear your thoughts on it!
The guitar sample throughout Rapp Snitch Knishes is from David Matthews' (Original) Dune soundtrack. Specifically the Space Oddity cover. Check it out!
You might want to check out Viktor Vaughn Vaudeville Villain, even just like offline. It's one of his aliases and my fav of all his non Doom albums. Very very good.
i don't see many people recommending his album under the alter ego king ghidorah, "take me to your leader". that and vaudeville villain are two perfect pairs. vaudeville villain is an amazing show of DOOM's lyrical talent, while take me to your leader is a spectacular showcase of his talent for production. definitely should be your next two DOOM reactions, followed by operation doomsday
Bruh, thanks 4 reviewing this. It's pretty cool to see other perspectives on the album... Also, on a side note, DOOM was never homeless. That's just a rumor that spread because he was a lot of time on the streets, but he lived at Kurious house at that time.
Respect for really diggin into those lyrics. MF (RIP) had to be one of the most unique rappers out there. The talking in third person, the numerous obscure pop culture references, the story within a story rhymes, and many people forget, but he is also a comedian with the bars. Glad you pick up on the fun factor of his bars.
I have a suspicion that the sample outro on Deep Fried Frenz is referring to DOOM while he was known as Zev Love X in KMD, and the "friend" was the group's record label which dropped them after the unfortunate passing of DOOM's brother. A young, optimistic DOOM learned the reality of fake connections and being backstabbed. Fast forward to 1999, and he returns, under a new name (or "face") with Operation: Doomsday, and he obviously went on an insane run in the early 2000s. Not sure if thats the intention, but I love this fucking album lol. Great reaction as always!
The reason you click the annotation and dont read it is because you are forcing your mind to think and you will have it no other way....its also a complex too
Genuinely been looking forward to this all day! I know there’s a million albums on your list but you should definitely check out Czarface - Every Hero Needs a Villain at some point.
Yo Bob have you ever considered reacting to a chance the rapper project? Acid rap is one of the most critically acclaimed mixtapes of the 2010s and I think you may like it. 10 day and coloring book are good projects too. Also excited to see you react to donuts. J dilla and madlib were basically musical brothers so a lot of the things you like about madlib also carry on to j dilla (especially on donuts specifically).
This and madvillainy were both 2004. Madvillainy was in march and FOOD was in november, one beer was a scrapped madvillainy song, which was later put on FOOD
Fun fact: Kookies originally didn’t have that bassline as the only thing behind the drums, originally it had a Sesame Street sample! I think you can find the original Sesame Street version floating around on RUclips.
You need to listen to Vaudeville villain by doom's alter ego Viktor Vaughn. IMO it's my favorite of his and extremely underrated. Beats are amazing on there and it feels like a movie in the same way as madvilliany
In the vid u were talking about how you liked how DOOM was incorporating the samples into his lyrics. I strongly suggest Blu and exile’s 2007 album Below the Heavens. It’s a masterpiece and the rapper Blu incorporates the samples beautifully into his songs

Some people say that "bust a nut" is a reference to specific New York slang meaning to punch someone in the head - but that's just what I've heard. He also mentions teaching her to "hold heat" alongside saying people usually just treat her poorly and beat on her.

Yes! DOOM has such a great flow, incredible rhyming schemes and is genuinely laugh-out-loud funny. He's sorely missed.
What i love about DOOM is that he actually has a great sense of humour, beef rap had me weak on 1st reaction
The mysterious thing about DOOM is that you don’t know if he’s talking about his true self or the character he’s created
my favourite activity these days is opening up a reaction video from you on the background and listening to it while working. and you have made me work more efficiently bob so thank you. i yelled out "let's goooooo" when i saw the notification i hope my roommate doesn't think i'm weird

@@rey4304 honestly i straight up bottled it man
He says there’s nothing much to the cover but didn’t realise that the guy at the table isn’t doom but it’s actually an imposter, doom is actually sat under the table in the bottom right.
DOOM is not about goofy lines man! your will to reasearch is a blessed one. every line is complex and worth studying.
just discovered your channel while i was looking for someone reacting to DOOM you have really good reactions and i love how you go back to read the lyrics
I've been waiting for this reaction for so long, i'm glad it's finally here. Now i wait for A Tribe Called Quest.
I fucking love your videos man, they make me relive my favourite albums again, while at the same time showing me your perspective which never disappoints.
your analysis is so interesting and helped me find so many lines i missed before, love it
Kookies was done dirty.
THIS. That thing is on constant replay in November-December for me. Magic.
@@thevinyltruffle it's two dudes but yeah they're legit, also collab'd a bunch with Curren$y
I'd be interested in seeing your take on
Dalek, specifically their album "Absence".
They bring in a lot of sounds that are atypical for hiphop.
Especially cause he's a rock/metalhead. Dalek are awesome. Absence is a masterpiece.
the special herbs is hella underrated. my go to study music

Also, Metal Fingerz is DOOM’s alias that he’s goes by when he produces. So any production by Metal Fingerz is actually just DOOM himself.
A crime to not mention born like this
BORN LIKE THIS...
Hoe Cakes beat box and "Super" sample are from J.J. Fad - Supersonic
Just found my complete "backup copy". DM if needed.
Seeing you dive into the lyrics of swimming and circles makes me excited to see you do faces because lyrically it’s soooo much more lol
There is this thing I've heard about the cover and since then i can't unsee it, it's the 3rd eye between the hoodie and above the metal face mask
I love your channel. I like how you really dig into the meaning of the lyrics. With that being said, have you done "Food and Liquor" by Lupe fiasco? His lyricism would definitely send you down some rabbit holes lol.
Love your reactions, you got me into lyrics 😍
His wife wanting to make him the foods for each track wholesome af
there is an another album called vaudeville villian by his another persona called viktor vaughn its pretty great as well
Let’s freaking go!!!
Weave the kicks and snares, tryna dodge these hooks
just here to say this is my fav album lol. Thanks for reviewing, you're great at it!
It's good to pay attention to the skits, they always link to the songs or themes of the work
Amazing reaction, MM..FOOD is such a great album in DOOM's catalogue.
This is definitely my favourite DOOM project and I finally got it on vinyl a couple months ago!
Fig leaf yeah you hit the nail on the head. The way he makes music and beats in particular is fine so meticulously and each piece is found, mixed and matched to make an amazing dish or beat at the end. It’s not like a beat off a production line. The best producers make beats that no one other than them can make. Unique
Seeing you discover the fact that his skits are basically DOOM speaking his mind through samples was very satisfying 🔥
spot on analysis of his character's motivations. he starts off his first album as MF DOOM with a verse that goes "bound to go three plat, he came to destroy rap"
"I've been waiting for this album for 2 to 3 months"
Hob: MM... ROOKIE NUMBERS
32:45 "A herb got caught with four and five", meaning that a herb (a loser) took the 4th and 5th beers from the six-pack...that bar had nothing to do with weed (although I'm sure DOOM smoked some when he wrote it).
you should definitely listen to “vaudeville villain” by viktor vaughn (one of DOOM’s alter ego’s) another incredibly fascinating piece of work
The guitarr sample on Rapp Snitch Knishes is honestly the best guitarr of any rap song ever, kinda orgasmic
4th Chamber would like to have a chat with you... lol
I know this is over a year old, but I really need you to know that Rap Snitches are Knishes because they're hard on the outside but soft on the inside.
One Beer is one of my favorite songs of all time so it’s so cool to watch you listen to this
One of the most underrated hip hop albums of all time and this is fact!
I wouldn’t say maybe to people who just listen to the radio but for people who are actually into hip hop, many put this as a top tier album

Bob, I am so happy you took your time with DOOMs verses. I watched every second of this.... Its always dope to watch people experience his genius. Peace.
one of my favourite albums of all time. so happy to see you really dig in and appreciate the record. can’t wait for whatever next DOOM project you get into, even if it’s another couple months down the line. easily has one of the best discographies in rap in my opinion. whether you go to his other aliases next like Viktor Vaughn or King Geedorah, or finish the other albums under the DOOM moniker like Operation Doomsday and Born Like This. really no wrong way to go.
(also I've never seen anyone say anything about the "It's a fued so don't be in no tv mood, every week mystery meat, seaweed stewed" is a body disposal reference)
edit: prob should've watched further in but Mr. Hood by KMD is 100% checking out especially if you enjoy samples being worked into the music. originally the group got the idea from the album from a english learning tape with a bunch of weird phrases. Not sure if its popular enough to watch on the channel but would love to hear your thoughts on it!
I didn't know about the food drive thing. I thought he was basically calling his music soul food.
I have been waiting sooooo damn long
The guitar sample throughout Rapp Snitch Knishes is from David Matthews' (Original) Dune soundtrack. Specifically the Space Oddity cover. Check it out!
You might want to check out Viktor Vaughn Vaudeville Villain, even just like offline. It's one of his aliases and my fav of all his non Doom albums. Very very good.
He should
i don't see many people recommending his album under the alter ego king ghidorah, "take me to your leader". that and vaudeville villain are two perfect pairs. vaudeville villain is an amazing show of DOOM's lyrical talent, while take me to your leader is a spectacular showcase of his talent for production. definitely should be your next two DOOM reactions, followed by operation doomsday
Glad you pick up on the fun factor of his bars.
in One Beer when he mentions "there's only 1 left the pack comes in six" he's loosely referencing D12
The reason you click the annotation and dont read it is because you are forcing your mind to think and you will have it no other way....its also a complex too
The bass line on Con Queso pushes the beat so well. I love it.

Yeah, I'd some to see him listen to Sound Ancestors by Madlib and also Untrue by Burial.
Acid Rap is incredibly influential. I really really like Coloring Book as well. Chance has some misses, but his highs are so good!
Acid rap please
He would LOVE Acid Rap, hope it's on the list
coloring book please !
The flatness you're hearing on Beef Rapp is due to the main sample being the music from an episode of the 1981 Spiderman cartoon.
I like to think the 3 track skits in the middle of the album are supposed to be like TV commercials. It's so good hahah.
