  • Peter, Paul & Mary singing their classic hit, "Puff the Magic Dragon."
    Lyrics:
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Little Jackie paper loved that rascal puff,
And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. oh
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.
Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on puffs gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow whenever they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flag when puff roared out his name. oh!
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.
A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie paper came no more
And puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave,
So puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. oh!
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

      Roccospencer,,
I am with you on this..
      God loves you..
I am constantly looking and making new friends that are younger then me, cause people that are older, they keep having medical issues & passing on.. ya it sucks, but God loves me.
I keep being me, spreading the love within me to others..
This is all we can do..
      There is a saying,,,
If you can't be who you are, , then you won't be..
So friend, seek God and His kingdom and all that He has for you.
We as people need to get out and talk to others, even at the store..
From one older guy to another, keep moving,, decide to make changes, even small changes, don't keep doing the same ole thing..
Living and dieing is part of life.
Don't let what others do or don't do, drag you down...
😊 I care about people and I care about you and I am a stranger..
Find things to do and keep your mind busy..
Start going fishing, talk to other fisherman, make friends. Keep moving,..
Talk to God, Read your Bible, Pray about all things and bring all your requests to God the Father,, in Jesus name..
      You are not alone..
Most other people have lost family members along the way of life..
I hope I have encouraged you to keep moving and keeping your mind busy with the NOW THINGS in life..
The past is past, we can't change that,
The future we can't change or predict & tomorrow is not promised.
All we have is NOW, TODAY, THIS MINUTE, so know there are others that need a friend too,, not just you..
Get out there, enjoy the life we have Today not yesterday's life..
Today and Now is all we have..
Remember God loves you and so do I... From
      brother Harvey
      ✝️😊😊

I remember my father telling me that the day I first went to primary school he was driving me there in my new uniform. At the time I was obsessed with puff the magic dragon and was singing this song on my way there. As he drove his kid to their first day of school I sang “a dragon lives forever, but not so little boys”. 7 year old me had no idea, but my father told me years later as I finished high-school, that he bawled his eyes out on his way home. Beautiful but haunting song.

The song is sadly touching in ways that all of us can understand. Puff is the embodiment of the innocence of youth and the ease of youthful friendships and play. When this song brings a tear to the eye, we not only cry for Puff the Magic Dragon, we cry for our own abandoned youth and its lazy sun filled days and fantastic adventures. Our tears pay homage to a simpler past that we envision sadly slipping into the cave along with the lonely dragon.

In 1993 I travelled to Denmark and with a fellow Italian we met some really pretty danish girls. We hanged around with them for a week or so. My friend didn't know a word of english. I did as I knew how to sing in english. This danish girl played the guitar and we both sang this song. For the life of me I can't remember how we chose this song. Singing this song with her deepened our bond. Nope, we didn't become a couple in the end. It just deepened our bond for the short time I spent in Denmark. Now whenever I hear this song I think of a beautiful blonde blue eyed girl from Fredericia and how we shared a beautiful few days together.

@Kerrie Tapp Peter Yarrow's roommate at Cornell, Leonard Lipton, wrote the words after he read Ogden Nash's poem "Custard the Dragon" and thought he could write a better poem. Yarrow found it on the typewriter and realized he could put music to it. I think it's pretty clearly based on English folklore. Yarrow always said it was about the loss of innocence. Puff is really a toy and a figment of a little boy's imagination. Eventually, little boys grow up and quit playing with toy dragons.

5 I feel your pain. I just turned 55 in December and think more and more about my childhood. While most memories are good they bring tears to my eyes and it feels as though someone is squeezing or rather, ringing out my heart. I don't get it. Happy memories that don't make me "feel" happy. I'm often confused about this and have come to the conclusion that while the memories are great, I'm terribly sad that they, along with some of the family members and friends are forever gone. I know they live on in my heart and mind - blah blah blah but nonetheless I still feel sad. Ugh, if we could only help the way we "feel"........ P.S. love the spelling of Francis (I guess I'm Phrancis lol)

    • @Phrancis5
      @Phrancis5 2 года назад +1

@@maryfrancesbeckerhaggerty5353 Yes, Phrancis = Francis. A good Catholic name for sure, although I'm trying to accept the more Eastern mantra that everything is fleeting. Change is inevitable and we need to accept and even appreciate that nothing lasts forever and to live more in the moment - to cherish the present. I suppose good memories would not be so special if we were immortal. Just like the lyrics in the Pink Floyd song "Time", I'm trying to accept the seemingly uneven passage of time and my current age. Aging is hard, since we tend to have an existential crisis and see our eventual end. I grew up in a family of scientists and not very religious, but I'm comforted in the fact that we all return to the elements which all new life is built from and our energy dissipates into the universe. Energy and matter can not be created or destroyed, just transformed from one state to another. Carl Sagan did say we are all "star dust". We are all part of the universe. - Sorry, I'm rambling, but hope you feel better and still cherish the special moments, even if they are just memories.

Loved this song when I first heard it in High School. All of my friends thought it was about drugs but to me it it was about a little boy growing up and leaving his imaginary dragon behind as well as his childhood. A song with great meaning to me as a teenager as I too was leaving behind my childhood. As with all my friends we were all in love with Mary, how could you not be!

Not about drugs but they got great mileage out of the rumor!

    • @charlesflannery4610
      @charlesflannery4610 2 года назад

The drugs was a big conspiracy theory and probably still is. Around the 80s they tried to make everyone think certain songs referenced drugs. There was even people who thought Rocky Mountain High was about drugs. Just because it has the word high? Maybe it started with Puff like smoking.

    • @rachdarastrix5251
      @rachdarastrix5251 Год назад +1

Funny thing about that, you hear that theory, then you listen to the lyrics of the song again.
1: You realize whoever came up with that theory was mentally ill.
2: But you do now want to know if after Puff's human friend died of old age, and he became depressed, did Puff ever get over it?

    Jackie has
grown up now, he has a little boy. He searched his trunk of long lost stuff,
    and found his favorite toy.
    He put
back all the scales, that fell like drops of rain. Puff, the mighty dragon
    again roared out his name.
    He climbed
into his cave, and jumped out Christmas day. Puff that mighty dragon had found
    someone to play.
    Noble
Kings and princes, would bow again this day, for Puff the mighty dragon, was
    back again to stay.
    Repeat

I remember being in first grade, and they would occasionally put on a CD of "children's songs." I mean, it sounded kinda like other children's songs at first, so I don't blame the overworked teachers from not noticing, but I remember being the only one who actually paid attention to the lyrics. I felt vaguely uncomfortable that literally nobody realized just how sad the song was.
