Honda Civic Si - How To Change the Coolant / Antifreeze Drain And Fill
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 авг 2024
- This is the procedure that is in the Honda shop manual. I will show you how to drain and fill the radiator. The car in the video is a 2007 Civic Si with about 168,000 miles. It is recommended that you use genuine Honda Type 2 antifreeze/coolant on your Honda automobile. You are replacing about 1.19 gallons of coolant. Honda states that the coolant is good for up to 10 years or 120,000 miles. BUT I replace the coolant every 3-5 years.

I was so scared that the fans weren’t gonna turn on but they did and I love you for this 😘😘😘
Thank you so much for your video !!!! May God bless your kind heart !!!!
Thanks, was about to take it to the shop but I'll go ahead and do it myself. Thanks again for the video.
It is pretty easy. Save yourself a few bucks....
Perfect video for 8th gen Civic Si
I have extra pure mishimoto coolant that's good for all engines so I'll be using about .6 of a gallon of water mixed with .6 of this coolant. It's made to decrease warm up time and keep the engine cooler! I'll be doing that this weekend 🙌
Great details. Thanks!🎉
great video 👏
Thank you.
Thanks for the tips
Glad to help...
thanks for the video
Glad I found this. The reservoir is located in the most inconvenient place. I'm having trouble pulling it out & am afraid I'll break something if I pull too hard.
You don't have to disconnect the battery but you can unbolt the battery tie down so you can shift the battery to the side a little. That will give you a little more room. The first time you take off OR put back the reservoir will be a little difficult. You can't really break anything. Let me know if that tip helps...
Shit, try it out on the 9th gen Si, I can’t even tell if there’s any in it or not by looking, but not terrible to remove
@@outofmind9222 yeah can’t see, I took it the shop, my 9th gen, they didn’t have the coolant but I did. I just poured a very tiny bit in there till I can take it the shop. I got the car from car max so it should be fairly new but the guy at the shop said it was low. So like I said I just put some in the reservoir till I can take it to the shop and have them do it. If your draining and refilling, you’d probably wanna follow these steps to a T but most cars you just pour and go.

Hi should I use only honda brand coolent for my honda civic or can I use anyone els aswell please guide thanks
thank you !
good video
Thanks.
U shine bro thx
Glad to help. Thanks for the positive comment.
6 years old and it’s the best video i’ve found for civic coolant flush 👏
thanks for the compliment!
At no point in the video was the system flushed...
wow honda wants to charge me a bill to do this. thanks bro !!
yeah, it is easy to do.
nice video! i have a civic si 8th fa5... but you know another brand for the coolant? maybe go to be more cheapper (sorry for my bad inglish)
It is ok to use other brands. Just make sure it is BLUE. Do NOT use the yellow or green.
Love your aftermarket radio. What brand is it ?
Alpine INA-W910. I bought it in 2011.
Thanks man.
Great video thanks a lot. Do you need to bleed the system out for air? Because I added coolant like you did in the video, but as the car was running the coolant kept running up the radiator cap? I have an 8th gen Si also. Thanks
The coolant is running up because it is still "burping". Once the radiator fan runs twice, you are done. Check the coolant after a few days and add coolant if needed.
@@OEMEangg got it I’ll try it again thank you so much
You need the easy fill funnel, so you wont have any leaks
I have a question did you put the same coolant in the reservoir and the radiator? Or do I need different coolants for the two?
it is the same coolant.
oem Eangg thanks for answering my question, I just picked up a 2010 Honda Civic and the guy left the radiator including the reservoir completely empty along with the radiator cap broke and I have no knowledge of this vehicle so your answer helped a ton thank you so much!
no prob.
Can I add coolant from the rad cap? I feel like my coolant level is a bit low.
You can add it from the cap BUT make sure the engine is cold. Coolant was spray if the engine is hot. I never have to add or top off my coolant. Is there a leak in the cooling system?
Hi How much fluid did you put in your resevoir exactly to be inbetween max and minimum? only because I can’t see down into my type r , I am using a pump to suck it out, many thanks
Fill in between min and max. Then after you have driven for a little while check again and fill to the middle if needed.
@@OEMEangg do u know exactly how much as I need to remove my battery and really cannot be bothered so I’m just going to suck it out then pump in new coolant so need to know the exact amount please
@@dickjackson25 I do not think you can suck out the coolant from the top of the radiator or resevoir/overflow tank. You are replacing about 1.19 gallons.
Coolant reservoir should only be filled between min and max? Not fully?
I have always filled it up between min and max. But I have a friend who fills his to max. I check the coolant level often, but if you don't check it very often, it is probably better to fill it to max. It is probably better to have more coolant than less.
When I did a coolant flush on my s2000 I filled the res halfway. Checked it everytime I put gas in and a few times had to fill it up a little. Air that’s trapped inside the system will burp out from driving so the coolant level will drop. Also when using the heater air that’s trapped in the heater core will burp out.
Axl Po the manual says to the MAX
Escusame a what temparature turn on the ventilator?
set it to MAX.
Does it have to be level, on a flat surface ?
Some people say they go on a ramp and have the front end of the car higher. Personally, just have the car level.
What gauge is that you have in the car? (below the radio)
ScanGuage 2
I did this and a lot of coolant was Coming out. So I turned off the car. Then once I turned it on again and left it running it over heated. The fan doesn’t turn on
You MAY have two issues. The thermostat may be stuck which would cause the car to overheat. They fan switch or relay may be faulty.
Was the fan air con fan switch still turned off when you started the car to bleed the air for 10 minutes
yes, you leave the fan off. when the car warms up, it will turn the fan on by itself.
@@OEMEangg what can are you talking about the blower inside the car ?
@@kiran-wh9wg Yes, leave the blower fan off.
Hi, is this process really necessary for the car, if so, what for?
You need to replace the coolant because as the coolant age, it becomes acidic. Also there maybe corrosion in the system.
oem Eangg Thanks, for your response.
eom Eangg. 7:00 And, what if the car overheats while waiting for the fan to come on ?????
Well, the reason the fan comes on is to prevent the car from overheating. If the fan doesn't come on, it is either... temp sensor is faulty, fan is faulty, bad fuse...
Wait , so do u add coolant while the car is on while u wait for the fans to turn on twice ?
Yes, keep topping off the coolant.
@@OEMEangg gotcha thank you
@white9th193 I tried adding coolant while the car was on and it shot straight out of the radiator lol
@@souloho3900 hahaha... that means there was a lot of air in the system.
this will still leave the coolant in the engine block and heater core unchanged, which is about half the coolant!
That is correct. You are replacing about 1.19 gallons. The whole system takes 1.80 gallons.
how do u just check it? i can never tell if i have enough coolant
Everett blue the reservoir tank I believe. Should be between min and max
@@aaronbaggest2029 Yeah, I just make sure the reservoir is between min and max also.
How much coolant does it take
it takes a little more than one gallon.
How often do you need to change your Antifreeze Coolant?
CHRISTIAN MEJIA every 5 years.
Some people recommend every 30000 miles too
Why not do a flush?
Honda does not recommend flush. They say just drain and fill.
oem Eangg I did read that.
Wat if the fan doesnt come on?
U must be Canadian
Just remember, it takes a long time before the fan comes on. It may take a while since it will not come on until the engine is warm.
@ 2:59 IT WASN'T EVEN DONE DRAINING THE ANTIFREEZE
its called a draincock.its not a plug
If you’re confused then don’t don’t work on your car
My car won’t burp and reason why is that?
How old is the thermostat? Is the thermostat working properly?
