I think these cables were originally included with a Nyko Nintendo Wii power play kit along with a charging station with rechargeable batteries for the Wiimotes and wireless sensor bar.
I now understood that the grey cable with the red and white top are for the sound and matches with there color. But the problem is when i plug the blue my screen becomes black and same when i plug the red with the grey cable. If i plug the green one the image appears but its black and white. Im talking about video only... audio is working fine when i plug in the green one... but its in black and white.
These are the cables I use for my Wii. Fantastic & looks great on my 47" Samsung LED HDTV and they also make 480P Gamecube games like Wind Waker look great!
cool. Just hooked up my nephew's wii to my brother's HDTV via standard component cables and it looked ok but everything like you said did look a bit blurry and the blacks were definitely off.
@AlexDC93 from what i read is that you can change the definition in the wii menu, and then the basic colors rendered will have their own respectives wires, instead combining them just into one.
Yes I agree. Composite is leaps and bounds better than coaxial. I have had a satisfying experience with the composite cables that came with the Wii with a widescreen tv. I do agree that you should go with the component cables for better picture.
I bought one at a garage sale for $1 yesterday Would be nice to see a picture difference FYI HDMI is just a smaller/compact version of component audio/video so you can run 1080p if the system allows though..
@AlexDC93 In the wii system menu theres an option that allow you to change the definition, either 480p EDTV HDTV or 480i for Standard TV. So i guess that the wii changes the video signal so it looks better.
There is component cables available for the ps2, but i really wish there was component cables for the pre-wii consoles since they all had the same cable.
@DoubleAIV it's not about the output, try moving your sensor bar closer to you, preferably on top of the TV and faced to where you're playing, also try not to make sudden moves since most of the times the Wii Remote might confuse tour moves.
I got the Mad Catz component cable. Got to go with quality when using HD cables. Wish I had gotten the Nyko one's instead, though. I like the differently colored audio cables and that blue grippy thing too.
That's true, however I use my HDTV as a monitor to display things like streaming my computer, HD games and Blu-Ray player. I rarely watch broadcast TV with it.
I had those wires once. They worked great, except it would not display the picture when I played Virtual Console games. As a result I eventually replaced it with the official Nintendo component cables.
I play my Wii on a slightly older, big, bulky tv that we've had for years. Nintendo did right by shipping the Wii with composite cables, because it shipped all around the world, in places where not everybody has flatscreen LCD tvs. Thanks for the video about this though, I'll keep it in mind if we ever get an LCD tv.
It would be nice to see the video output quality of the cables compared side by side. I'm curious myself. I wonder if the difference would be noticeable after the review video is compressed for youtube, though.
It's not really a song and it might not have a name. It's from a stock music collection for video production, i forgot which one, but i could try to dig it out.
Another significant difference is that games that support 16:9 widescreen will display in the proper ratio on a widescreen TV (instead of the 4:3 picture stretched out you get with composite).
Nice job on the vid. Clear video, clear audio, and you know what you are talking about. Thanks for showing the cables in detail. well done thanks for a proper video review of a product. What is the length?
my tv only goes 480p so i could only play my 360 up to that but the luckily the 360 came with component cables when i bought it im think of getting that universal cable for a 3 systems but im not sure cause im not a fan of getting third party accesories
Xbox360 Elite supports both HDMI and Component HD video through different cables. The component cable isn't expensive. You can disconnect and open up your plasma TV. Most likely the fault is in power supply unit. Look for black smoke marks on components and for capacitors which have gotten domes (they must be flat), those that have released some liquid or where break lines don't line up perfectly. It is most likely a 10$ repair.
well quality will obviously be better, if you want to make a comparision take a home DVD with component outputs first connect it with the yellow one and then with the component ones, there's a lot of difference.
I ordered a black Wii from Japan 2 days ago and they're still waiting to get the official component cables in stock. They have the black wii in stock, though. If they have official component cables for the Wii in the US, like they do in Japan, why not review those too?
You mention HDMI for Xbox 360, but my system (apparently a rare one) is from launch that does not have the HDMI output. Instead I output through component at 1080i resolution. Yes, I have a working launch Xbox 360 pro system :)
@mariogioco That does not make it fake. It's a 3rd market cable that is perfectly legal to be produced. It's not a fake as it does not claim to be the official Nintendo Wii component cable.
Hey man, i have a standard TV (non lcd or plasma, i hope you understand what i'm talking about xD) and it's component compatible. If i use that cable, i am going to feel the difference? oh, and does those nyko work the same as nintendo's? Thanks!
Worth knowing there is also an (official) Wii RGB cable, which is on par with component in quality and may be more convenient (or not) depending on your setup..
@@gamecubeplayer It doesn't support progressive scan; the picture quality is however on par with component video. PAL Wii users ought to be aware of it especially since CRT TVs that are good for gaming often have SCART input in Europe and are unlikely to display progressive scan.
@@samhamer6588 yes pal wii rgb scart on a 15khz sdtv rgb pal crt looks amazing (if the 15khz sdtv rgb pal crt supports 60hz then it's the cheapest best way to play the pal wii)
I have the Nintendo official component cables for the wii and it definitely makes a difference. Though, on my hdtv the wii video output looks best when using the component cables set to 480i instead of 480p. 480p on my tv looks a bit sharper but grainy, while the 480i setting has a softer but more pleasing look to it. Either way, its much better than the basic composite cables that come with the Wii. Gotta love HDMI though... only 1 simple small cable for hd video and audio. Awesome.
@AlexDC93 The component cable unscrambles and displays MUCH more colours, sharpness and tint a lot better than Composite. Lets try this example lets just cram all the colour, sharp, tint and pixels into ONE source lets say lets just cram it into a tight small box yea its just blotched and smashed not great at all. Component helps the TV to use its full potential if you do have 480p/Progressive Scan
I know i was off with the beginning sentence but the rest of the paragraph clarifies the little booboo I made. composite only does 240i (alternating between even and odd scanlines) while the component does 480p (no need to alternate).
@jcnba28 i think the problem is that their games are made for SD and so any higher on some games and alot of old ones it just makes them look more dated ( not saying new super mario bros is dated)
component is good for 480p but nintendo should make a special adapter for the wii that has a HDMI output so you can use an HDMI cable and be able to upconvert wii games to 1080p.
I did know that newer Xbox 360's have HDMI output, when I said that mine might be rare, it was more a reference to it being a working launch system. Thanks for the info anyway.
I bought that same cable and I noticed that on an LCD screen it looked sharp and clear, but on my crt, though it looked very sharp, it looked dark as hell idk why. In dark sections of a game it's impossible to see for how dark it looked, and increasing brightness settings from the TV didn't help, it made it worse because now everything looks awfully blue shaded.
0:44-0:52 Isn't coaxial the worst quality? It's still arguably modern because many devices and services (i.e. the cable tv provided at my college dorm) still utilize it. I'm not an electronics guy, so I can't be sure, but I do know coaxial is far older than composite, and older, within the realm of electronics, typically = inferior, doesn't it?
@yoshibacon12 if you have google chrome then go to settings>tools>extensions. then press get more extensions if u already have some. then type in the search bar to search extensions. " adblock plus" you'll never see those ads again
The cables do not determine the quality of the video signal. The wii's max output is 640x480 pixels (commonly known as 480p). That's it. Even if you were to get an HDMI converter it would just be an upscale of the 480p and not HDMI. If you want a true 1080p signal you: 1. Get a WiiU (has an HDMI cable) and will play your wii games in 1080p 2. If the specs of your computer are good enough you can get dolphin emulator and play your wii games on the computer in any resolution you desire.
Component will get you 480p on games that support it. Also, if you use your Wii for playing Gamecube games, Component out on a Wii is about 1/3 the price of buying Component cables for your GC, and the GC games will play in 480p for those who support it.
@jdigitalseven I know...BTW When you look on HDMI,it looks great,but they REALLY talk s*** about those tv's sometimes.I mean,if you don't have DTV,signal will look like *fart*...
@CyanProductions yea it does compared to other wii. And yea intendo has a decent approach to games this time around. besides nintendo already had the best graphics 2 and half times so i think to focus graphics on sony and microsoft
It is important to some. Also the increased computing power in the ps3 and 360 effect more than graphics. It also effects gameplay and AI and other technological factors. The wii's going to get compared to the Ps3 and 360 because they're all from the same Hardware Generation. Justl ike the 3DO, Saturn, Ps1 and N64 are all going to be compared to eachother. Or the Dreamcast, ps2, Gamecube and Xbox...despite all being vastly differnet with different audiences...they're all from the same gen.
I'm perplexed that Nintendo didn't give the Wii HDMI.
But the Wii U did get one.
motion detectin bar that uses magic.
***** I laughed harder to this than I should have. It came out so funny. XD
The motion detection bar thing that uses magic is the sensor bar.
I think these cables were originally included with a Nyko Nintendo Wii power play kit along with a charging station with rechargeable batteries for the Wiimotes and wireless sensor bar.
Love the mexican restaurant music in the background

Recently bought a component cable for the Wii and the difference is huge (it cost me about 4$) and the upgrade is totally worth it

In 2020 Wind Waker still looks awesome. I play it on a CRT TV and the game looks beautiful as always
Only CGR can make a cable review fun to watch haha. =)
cool. Just hooked up my nephew's wii to my brother's HDTV via standard component cables and it looked ok but everything like you said did look a bit blurry and the blacks were definitely off.
@xkillaz18x yeah, they are still being made, you just have to order them on ebay or amazon, as for the usb to ethernet cable i'm not sure?
@AlexDC93 from what i read is that you can change the definition in the wii menu, and then the basic colors rendered will have their own respectives wires, instead combining them just into one.

Very informative!! I'll definitely keep these cables in mind!! Thanks!!
I hope you did. There’s no better way to play the Wii!
and here i am still using coax! nice review, as always :)
you used RF on wii 10 years ago? wow
a 5 minute review on video cables. awesome.
There is component cables available for the ps2, but i really wish there was component cables for the pre-wii consoles since they all had the same cable.
I always wondered what all those other plugs were for on the back the my TV. Now I know. I think I will have to look into buying some of those cables.

also, are there other reviews about different manufactures cables? are there differences between different brands of component cables?
I got the Mad Catz component cable. Got to go with quality when using HD cables. Wish I had gotten the Nyko one's instead, though. I like the differently colored audio cables and that blue grippy thing too.
The SNES, N64 and G-Cube all used the same plug for video/audio, but I think they use a different plug for the Wii
Correct me if I'm wrong though
...You did a Wii-related review without duct tape or beer? I'm stunned.
There were other component video brands too. There were also the official Nintendo brand cables, Monster brand cables, and a few other various brands.
That's true, however I use my HDTV as a monitor to display things like streaming my computer, HD games and Blu-Ray player. I rarely watch broadcast TV with it.
@CoolDudeClem Wii can only output SD content @ 480p, using component will output it at 480p.
I had those wires once. They worked great, except it would not display the picture when I played Virtual Console games.
As a result I eventually replaced it with the official Nintendo component cables.
when are they going to come out with coax for the wii? that would make the picture quality 10 times better

just bought one of these and are totally awesome!
these works fine even with my favorite gamecube game f-zero gx
Component video can be full 1080 HD resolution, but I don't know what the maximum resolution of th Wii is tho.
Kinda wish they had at least used a cable with composite AND s-video wen they shipped the wii.
Objectified Cross Yeah, like how the initial standard Xbox 360 bundle comes with a composite/component combo cable
TheMamaluigi300 can we agree that the original 360 cable is the greatest av cable ever shipped?
I ordered a black Wii from Japan 2 days ago and they're still waiting to get the official component cables in stock.
They have the black wii in stock, though.

There is a thing that u can get that u plug it into the back of your wii, and its a big adapter for and HDMI cable.

@Itsmattylol yes, all nintendo a/v cables and systems are compatible, except for the NES.
can't wait to get that component cable for my wii!
@MAX981001 first thign you should buy after getting a wii is a second controller, then a game
You could have done a demonstration comparing both cables.
I loved the ending. AAAAAA a wire monster is unleashing its fury on us!
@uwright22 No. The best cable that you can get the the N64 is S-Video cable.

This is a must-have for the 2D shooters, it really makes a difference.
SSBB looks amazing with this cable.

nice man you are very good at explaining things
@jcnba28 i think the problem is that their games are made for SD and so any higher on some games and alot of old ones it just makes them look more dated ( not saying new super mario bros is dated)
did you buy seperate HD cables? i cant seem to find mine, if there were any.
the Rocketfish brand cables aren't too bad either, mine does a decent job
component is good for 480p but nintendo should make a special adapter for the wii that has a HDMI output so you can use an HDMI cable and be able to upconvert wii games to 1080p.
So how do you connect it to the tv because they’re different colors from the ones in the tv
I did know that newer Xbox 360's have HDMI output, when I said that mine might be rare, it was more a reference to it being a working launch system.

Nyko HD-Link Component Cables or Official Nintendo Component Cables?
