While all you’re saying is true, the reason why you’d want a component cable isn’t because of its ability to send progressive signal but the fact the three components of the video signal (Y, Pb, Pr) are all separated over three different cables and connector, thus there can’t be interference between each component, creating a much sharper and faithful image.
I got these cables and it makes a huge difference
I started hacking my wii a couple years ago, and my dad was so smart to buy component cables when he bought it.
gg on that, I want a wii badly but can't find one in my budget so rip
@@Kxnii they're like 30$
@@Kxnii what's your budget buddy, I'll sell you one cheap
@@pushytub not interested as much in it anymore, anything fully functional and with ac adapter thats under $50
My Wii came with the typical AV cables. Locked at 480i all my life. I ordered component cables so they should be coming today.
and how was it? i'm thinking in buying it, because of the gamecube games over all
Component's colors are better than composite, too.
@@nicolasg6983 They're cheap
Good info but would love to see a half/half screen video comparing both types of cables.
That would have been a very good idea! I wish I'd have thought of it at the time.

Thank you so much for your videos. We're always learning something new every day and you taught me several things I didn't know before. Like the difference between P and I. Made sense. I've heard of the letters, but didn't know the difference until now. I found your video because I have the original Wii and haven't played it in a while. We bought a new Samsung 4K Ultra HDTV for Christmas and I've been occupied with other tasks and chores and I said I really wanna just take a break from housework and play some games. Go back to childhood when nothing else mattered except the game I was playing. 80's Atari and NES fan here. The cables with my Wii are the 3 RCA's. The new Samsung we bought which does not have any RCA jacks on the back and I understand why. It's older technology. It came with RCA adapters to plug into a 3.5mm jack. When I had set up our new TV, I remember seeing those adapters and said you gotta be kidding me? Wonder how the Wii will look on these little guys. Looks and sounds like a downgrade to me. Well today is the day I finally got around to finding out. I plugged in my Wii with the 3 RCA's with those tiny little 3.5mm jack adapters and the sound is normal, the format on my TV is normal, but it's all in black and white, no color and it's grainy. It looks like someone mixed up a video cable or something isn't connected good. I double checked everything. Everything was right. So that's when I started looking around online for a fix. I discovered that that little secret box of that Wii2HDMI converter adapter was the trick but I'm reading 50/50 reviews on Amazon and other places. For under $5 and free shipping on eBay, I'll give it a try, but I'm better reading and seeing videos (yours included) that the cables that have the 5 RCA's are a better long term answer to playing the original Wii on the new 4K Ultra HDTV's if that cheap made in China chipboard says 1080P and you're not the only one with the opinion saying it's false. I'm not Prime anymore. I could tell you a funny story about Prime, but that's a story for another day. So earlier today I had ordered a couple of things I needed and qualified for the free shipping. I placed my order right before I decided to hook up my Wii. Dang it, I could have added that nifty little adapter gadget to my order. So I'll try the little magic box and see how it goes, but I foresee buying the cable soon. Sorry my comment is long. Really enjoy your videos. New subscriber here. Keep up the great work.
GaDawgsFan19 hey same, just bought a samsung 4k TV and my wii looks sooo horrible on the original composite cables, almost to the point where i cant bear playing anymore. currently looking for original component cables (yes there are, wanted to answer the guy’s question) and will see the difference.
Go dawgs 🖤❤️
I want this guy to have good RUclips career. Don't know why.
keth in I agree! He seems genuine, and personable! I do hope he does succeed!
Cuz he's awesome
in PAL territories it is actually a really good idea to use component or RGB SCART (which is fairly common here)
on a Wii with composite cables (which were the default, you got a SCART adaptor that didn't improve the image) you could only use 576i (standard PAL interlaced resolution) at 50Hz. it's not too bad i mean, the Wii's composite image isn't that bad.
BUT if you want to play certain virtual console games (like chrono trigger which was never released here on SNES) which require 60Hz you NEED to set the console to 480p and 60 Hz.
i remember getting component cables, 10 euros. the inherent improvement in terms of sharpness was a revelation to me.
That's not true. You can also use 480i 60Hz in PAL regions with the composite cable. Some games will even notify you about about that if you have it set to 50Hz.
wow dude, a revelation, i should have ordered the calbe before
Does the SCART work on an NTSC wii?
Like in case i go to Europe idk.
Also are there TVs in America that use SCART?
@@LennyQUMFIF not sure about question 1. I i don’t see why not. But for question 2. I think ours being phased out in favour of HDMI. But you’d still find one or two ports in mid range or not top of the line 4k tv’s.
@@LennyQUMFIFif you have the money buy a PVM and a SCART to BNC adapter, also don't buy any cheap SCART cable look for fully shielded SCART cables
I've recived the cable today...definitely worth it!
yes, there are official nintendo component cables, which were sold separately.
But there expensive for like 24 or 25 bucks and the only way to get Wii component cables in a cheaper way is to buy random 3rd Party, Fake or Knock-Off Component Cables which is either recommend or not recommend cause it was made by any random companies and you’ll might or not might get a chance for the best component video quality.
@@PinoyBowlerGS92 Honestly even a cheapest component (provided it actually works) is probably better than the standard composite
@@PinoyBowlerGS92 $20-30 isn't really that expensive, I just ordered a set off eBay a few days ago after using third party ones for a few years. I had a wakeup call when I saw that I got more vibrant colors on a CRT using composite than I do on my modern TV with component, so I'm hoping the official cables will make a difference.
How does compare to a Wii 2 hdmi adapter?
For some reason the color is not working so the blue a green are mixed up and I made sure to put the cables in the right spot. Some one help me
Just swap the blue and green cables..
Will the gamecube games play in 480p on the wii?
Great question! If the games themselves support 480p (I _think_ only some do, though I may be entirely wrong about that) then yes!
Yes. Some games like Super Smash Bros Melee looks awesome at 480p via Wii!
Yeah
You can get 720p and 1080p out of the Wii with a HDMI adapter. Look up LKV6000 mini.
I've got an adapter similar to those. It isn't truly drawing HD out of the console, though. It's just upscaling the 480p image.
480p* (not trying to be mean)
Oops, you are correct AquaBlast. I fixed the typo :)
Does this work on Tv's without HDMI
Jarrah White No you don't,you only get 480p and 480i via hdmi, the resolution is the same
Doesn't Component provide better color? Or so I've heard
The color signal is separate from the brightness signal, which prevents interference between the two like you would get with composite. Also, it has more color bandwidth, so the resolution of the color is generally better.
I have a 4k Panasonic TV with component in the TV. Would these cables work?
Should work fine, yes!
If your TV has input for Component, it should work
I plugged the audio red into the video red and video into audio.... MY EARS (full volume)
Oh yikes! That must’ve been extremely unpleasant 😂 hope it didn’t mess anything up.
the screaming of a device doing another devices job and vice versa
Aren’t the component cables at the same placement? Also my tv is HDTV and can fit component cables, and my question is for GameCube games on Wii, what’s better, component or Wii 2 HDTV
Theoretically hdmi vs component on wii would be equal, as 480p is the top quality image the wii is capable of putting out
Component are required for NOT64 to work on the Wii. Screen is too dark without them. Use Doom64 as a test. That game is dark.
Nintendo did have some official Component Cables for the Wii
They did, and while they aren't rare, they aren't as easy to come by as these less expensive cables.
I got some rocket fish ones I believe they’re the 2nd party who made them for Nintendo. Got lucky and found them for $5 at the flea market
What do I do if I got these exact cables and it only shows a black screen (my Wii is jailbroken but my Wii u doesn't work either but my Wii u is stock and isn't softmodded, so it can't be bricked)
Hey do you know if this component cable for the wii will work with the gamecube.
Unfortunately, I believe that the plug on the Wii is different than the plug on the GameCube, so these cables would not be compatible.
How do you get rid of the ghost lines with the component to hdmi converter and the component cables?
Can these be used on a standard crt tv? If its 2 cables for sound and 3 for picture thats too many for an old tv with seemingly only 3 ports? (2 audio 1 visual)
Only more decent sets had component inputs (sony trinitrons). Your set only has composite.
Thank you man! Well done video!
Thanks! Happy to hear you found it useful!
Howdy Folks!
I got the cables a few weeks ago. It sure was worth it. Especially the diference in color is huge.
Hey you got the same case as me, had this one for about 7 years alrdy I think
My Wii is about to hit 10 years this Christmas :D
I bought some 3rd party cables and let me tell u Super Mario Bros & Donkey kong look great should I be concerned that the Component Cables Don't day Nintendo but yeah the display is mush clear and the sound I think is also improved
Great to hear that's working out for ya!
Got a $12.99 component cable kit for my Wii.
*noice*
if me using this compenent cable can i play in HD?
Not quite. The most these cables can support is 480p. You can buy HDMI adapters that will upscale the image, but all they really do is expand the image to fit a 720p/1080p TV. So they won't really increase the quality. Sadly, the Wii just isn't powerful enough to produce an HD image.
Should I leave the screen at 4:3 or 16:9 if using these component cables?
16:9 in most cases unless you are using an old crt tv.
my tv has only hdmi ports and i use an av to hdmi converter to connect, will these cables work on my converter?
On my tv I have an av switch so I can plug in multiple av devices in, is it possible to put the audio cables in my switcher and the video in the tv? I only have to red and blue component on my tv I don't have the green will it's still work?
Ok if we can play Gamecube games on the Wii via Component why overpay for a component Gamecube cable?
No reason, unless you REALLY want to play on original hardware.
@@HowdyFolks There is a big reason, the wii signal is taken from the only port on the console wich is analogue, the gamecube component signal is taken from the digital port on the gamecube so it outputs a stronger signal..
A more fair comparason would be gamecube rgb scart vs wii component but ive seen videos online where gamecube rgb beats it hands down.
Only plus to the wii is better framerate in some titles.
GCN's component cable has a chip that makes it look vastly better, but it'll cost you $100+ while the official Wii component cable is very affordable.
I'd never recommend anyone to buy a third party / unbranded Wii component cable as the quality is a mixed-bag.
@@WingmanLive i agree that the official Nintendo RGB cable looks best. Looks better than any cable so far i have seen/used
@@superbn0va have you got any usa/jap games to run over the gamecube RGB cable?.. how's it do?
Change your setting to 4:3 and it looks more better
But the black bars just seem ugly
I'm looking to get the best video quality for my wii/gamecube games. Which would be better, the wii component cables or the wii2HDMI?
Quality should be identical. Only different you _might_ notice is input lag. If your TV has a slow analogue to digital converter, the Wii2HDMI might produce less noticeable input lag.
plz do some more review about Wii.And that is 32 inch TV?in the video?
What do the blue and green cords mean? Is that eqaul to a normal red audi output which colors mean what. Ibhsve a blue green red red and white. Which ones are audio and which ones are video???
Trying to hook up my wii and it has 5 cords with blue green red red and white. How do i plug this in to my normal red yellow and white output?
@@johnpowers3994 you can't you need a component output on your TV
When l changed to component on ps2 the difference was huge. But in this wii it did not change but framerates are better l like it! What is the difference between cheaper component cable vs expensive cable?
Great question! Because analogue signals can be effected (affected?) by cable quality, it is theoretically possible to get poorer quality cables that wash out the colors or introduce noise/artifacts into your visuals - something you wouldn't usually see with a digital standard like HDMI or DisplayPort. BUT, in practice, I haven't noticed those problems with this particular component cable.
I have a set of composite cables coming after a decade finally, with a couple controllers in NES and SNES styles for retro feel.
For the price, the Wii has potential to be a complete badass. You just gotta take 1 hour to fully teach it Karate.
Does the cable work with Wii Mini ?
The wii mini only supports composite video sadly. So no :/
Is there any difference with the 3rd party cables than the licensed one?
Yea some way worse, some are way better. You get what you pay for
Yes there is a difference
How you connect the TV to the console is the most important thing about the whole setup. Everything from shielding to connections relies on quality cables. Something inferior brands do not provide.
Heck you pay for a TV you pay for a Wii. Why then would you try to connect them the cheapest way possible?
It's the same thing with people spending thousands on stereo equipment and then hook it all together with speaker wire like dental floss. They wonder why it sounds horrible.
great video! subbed
Thanks so much! Welcome to the channel ☺️
I dont think all gamegube games can output 480p anyways
Just sayin
They are dirt cheap on ebay. I say yes it is.
can you play 480i over this component cable on the Wii? (I use a tube TV which is only 480i capable. But I still want to use component)
good question when I first plugged mi component cable the wii was still in 480i resolution and I had to choose the 480p on settings, but my tv supports up to 1080p so I have to test it on an old tv that supports component input.
I use a hdmi adapter does the same except it's a hdmi out.
Only reason I what them is cuz my hdtv doesn’t even support av
Hi I hope you still answer to comments because I have a bit of a problem :(
I recently bought the HDMI converter, but then it still wouldn't display it on my monitor. I then saw that I first had to make sure the Wii settings were set to 480p otherwise it wouldn't display.
So I plugged it into an old TV that has Scart input with the standard left/right audio and video output. It displayed it, but everything was grey. I then checked the settings and saw that it was set to 480i instead of 480p but the 480p option is greyed out.
So do I need to order these component cables to be able to get it to work with HDMI? Because I want to display it on my MSI monitor but it only has HDMI and Displayport as video output.
nintemdo made them, but they like 50 euro
Makes video about wii 480p
Doesn't show any gameplay
What
The best I would've been able to show you at the time was camera pointed at TV, and I was worried that would be worse than just explaining it 😂
I have the Wii U and I use it to play Wii games. It has an HDMI port. :b
I've got a Wii U, too! I use it for Mario games on the game pad :b
Why won't you use it to play your Wii games? Nintendo has made a software to transfer your saves etc.
Evill I did, but then I got my brothers old Wii. Now I play Wii games on that and play Wii U games on the gamepad in my bedroom.
Oh.
Why do you have only 660 subs? :(
EDTV or HDeDeDe...TeFehe
Barely shows any footage.
Good luck finding a TV with component inputs nowadays! Gotta buy a cheap HDMI converter that amazon sells. It's under $10 and gives you the 480p signal via HDMI cable. Component inputs were so 10 years ago.
I've got a hd smart TV that has the component cables which is good cause ps4 and PC games are so bad
3rd day delivery shipping 2 dollars ROTFLMFAO Try 8 dollars lol 😆
no they never shipped with the wii. nintendo is greedy and would always make it an accessory.
???
Is the wii worth it in the first place! :p
+Snowy Hmm 🤔 When your brother gives you one for free? Heck yes! 😂
If you want to play GameCube games I would say yes. Component cables for the GameCube cost a lot but the Wii component cables are cheap. I have a Wii but only use it to play my old GameCube games, I play my Wii games on my Wii U.
Shame about those GameCube component cables. You'd think someone would make some 3rd party cables on the cheap, but no one has.
It's because they can't. The console itself doesn't do the decoding for the component video. There is a DAC (Digital to analog converter) chip inside the cable. Nintendo owns the patents to the chip in that cable. So no 3rd party company can legally make a component cable for the GameCube.
Wii is fun too bad Wii shop is closed for good...
