Thanks for checking out the VideoMic NTG!
Thanks for sending it my way for testing! Loving it so far!
LINK amazon please
Where can I find this mic? Send no one has it in stock
anyone know how to eliminate the hisssss i plug directly to a6400
Try updating the firmware, when I first got it, it was there too but that helped.
Came here from Becki and Chris and am HYPED on the quality of your stuff my dude!
Thanks for coming over!! I’m glad that you’re digging my stuff!
0:09 DUNNA DIRTY DID IT! The red light 😂 I can’t wait to dive into this mic more! Sounds great!
Just out here educating the people on microphone reproduction. 🤪
Your stuff is crispy dude! Honestly I didn’t know about your channel until you commented on my video, so stoked on your content man!
Thanks so much man! You can thank Dave maze for pushing me in your direction! Thanks for swinging over and checking out my stuff!
thank you for the video! what's the difference between engaging only the safety channel and engaging both safety channel and -20DB? isn't safety channel already including a channel with -20DB?
The ability to use the Rode with my Mac via USB C made this a no brainer decision for me. Well worth the extra $50 in my opinion. Thanks for helping me decide.
Such a handy feature!!
I was super curious about this mic. Awesome review man! Perfect length and info here.
Thanks dude! Glad you hear it hit the spot for you!
The update you suggested (which I didn't even know existed) fixed my white noise/hissing problem - thank you!
Glad to hear that!
Thanks Dunna, I always wondered where new little microphones came from...😉 I’m stoked to hear that the microphone is working out and the firmware fixed the issue. I’m in the market for a powered mic and seems cool that this one can wear a few different hats so I don’t have to buy multiple mics. Yay! Always a good way to start the week!
I know some parents don't like having the talk so I'm just trying to help out haha. Glad you got some info from the video! Cheers!
Thank you for all you do. I love your accurate distance measurement of "hang loose and half a finger." priceless.
It’s important to be scientific in my tests!
Just got the Rode as an on camera mic and back-up to wireless Lav's and I'm very impressed with sound. It's a very useful bit of kit. Thanks for the video.
My pleasure!
Can someone please tell me what is that adapter used to connect with NTG to a Boom Arm at 3:46 I see a little adapter but I don't know what size to what size. Does anyone know?
Thank you for the VideoMic NTG
Firmware Updater information! I couldn't figure it out why i was hearing so low.
Glad to help!!
Thanks for this info! I am looking to upgrade my audio from a Rode Lavalier GO Lapel Mic. I create talking-head RUclips videos in a fairly well-treated room and plan to upgrade to a boom mic above my head. I would like to find the best mic that I can plug straight into camera (Fuji XT3), so I don’t have to sync audio in post.
I’m considering the Rode VideoMic NTG , NTG2, NGT4+, and Sennheiser MKE 600. Which of these mics do you think would be better for my application? I have heard the MKE 600 has better audio quality (Although I would not be powering the MKE 600 via XLR), but I wonder if the difference would justify getting that over the Rode- which has a power system that I can more easily charge, is cheaper, and seems to sound great. The Rode also has a gain knob on the mic so I could avoid using the camera’s gain. My RUclips channel is called Hope Through Prophecy in case you would like to see my current setup. Thanks for any help!
Had mine for a few months now and I absolutely LOVE it!
Thanks for this handy video, Dunna. I was looking for good reviews about the NTG, because I'm in the process of buying it. Good to know: now I'm going to buy :)
Excellent! Happy to help!
How do you charger that type of microphone help please thanks :(
Great intro! Humor, fun music, great subtle camera movement. Good stuff
Thanks so much Michael!
Nice one dude! You're freaking hilarious!
Haha thanks bud!
Love your content man, Saludos desde México 🇲🇽
Thanks for watching!
The D3 Pro is the best mic I've ever used on a camera, but that NTG does sound pretty damn good. Might have to try and get my hands on one. No such thing as too many mics, amiright?
NEVER TOO MANY!
Nice! I like that I can now monitor my audio if I need too. I've sometimes had poor audio (older mic) and didn't realize it until I was doing post editing work. Great feature..Also, love that this mic powers ON/OFF with the camera. I've forgotten to turn my MIC off so many times in the past.
Thanx for the special infos and fantastic video👍👍 I am buying this videomic Ngt and I would like to know if sounds better connecting it via USB direct in the pc, or with his 3,5 jack in the camera (sony alpha 6400)..
Thanx!
Paolo Michetti (italy)
To my ear they’re pretty much the same as long as you set your levels right!
Dunna Did It really thanx! Great channel, great person!🙏
Dang it! Bought the NTG4+ a while ago. I would have bought this one for sure if it would have been out back then. Great video! Hope you had wonderful holidays! 🥳
Anja Moerk same with me. I’m going to sell it now.
Happy Holidays Anja! Sorry I didn't get this out in time for you lol.
Haha omg, that wasn’t supposed to come across that way! 😂 Sorry Dunna!
Literally my fav mic btw dope video
Thanks for watching!
Been lookin at this mic since the day it came out. Thanks great review with clean sound
Thanks a ton! Glad you liked it!
@@dunnadidit Quick question before I do buy one. Audio level: Does it gain pretty good with the volume level knob? I've got Canon DSLRs so you probably know the audio on those is pretty crappy with a lot of hiss. I'm using RODE videomics (the ones with the 9v batt) and they are ok at best. Guess that with the NTG capsule it should be much better.
Your thoughts?
It’s definitely a good loud mic. I do notice it has a bit of a noise floor going on but it’s nothing crazy. I only have the older videomic pro to compare to and it’s definitely better.
So many creative moments in this video well done Dunna!
Thanks dude!
should talk about Rode NTG more. I love it
To me, the extra features of the NTG make it a winner over the Deity. I currently have the D3 but will soon be getting the NTG. Good Review, Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Just the video I needed!
Niccceeee!
I was just about to start research good mic's for multible purposes. hot damn, your video had good timing. thanks a lot for all that infomation. and Happy New Year Dunna!!
Haha great to hear man! Hopefully it was helpful! Happy new year!
Just what I was looking for!
Thank you, great review!
An awesome review and video, Dunna. 😁 👌
Cheers mate! 🍻
Thanks so much! Cheers!
Great video! Thanks for the info.
Thanks this was awesomel. I'm new to everything and have had to guess and check so much with the NTG mic. Now I understand more of the symbols and what they do which is realllly helpful! Thanks!
Okay, I've decided I'll get the NTG for my nature videos! ☺️
I just bought this for my smart phone. Good review. Would’ve liked to know other details such as, how do I manually turn the microphone on and off ?and what you would suggest the average gain (number )would be shooting normally at 24 frames a second indoors. Other than that keep up the great work
how would it compare tot he NT3?
Hi! So, I’m a complete sound-rookie and was hoping you could help me understand the real differences between XLR and 3.5mm microphones. From what I’ve been able to learn, the basic differences are: 1. XLR cables are balanced and a safer way to do long connections without having interferences; and 2. XLR mics need phantom power to work. But other than that, do XLR microphones output better sound quality compared to a good 3.5mm microphone? If the only real advance of XLR only comes with their cables… Wouldn't it be better to use a 3.5mm microphone (which tends to be more versatile, like the Rode Video NTG) and use and 3.5mm-to-XLR converter when you need to do a long connection to continue using the more trusted XLR cables?
You have a pretty great understanding of it really! XLR is basically just a more robust and secure connection but in the end they’re doing very similar things. 3.5mm is more likely to have issues with interference but cheap XLR cables can too. Also, not all XLR mics need phantom power but XLR cables allow for the possibility of phantom power. Honestly... it’s very much less about the microphone and more about the cable.
@@dunnadidit thank you so much for taking the time to reply! Yess, that’s what i was trying to get at: if the microphones aren’t really better or worse and the real advantage is the cable connection... If I was trying to avoid buying extra mics, I could in theory just buy a 3.5mm mic and, if i needed to do a long connection, I could use an XLR cable with an XLR to 3.5mm adapter... right? 🤔 (sorry in advance for all the rumbling)
Yeah as long as everything was compatible, you should be able to do that!
Great video can’t help to notice the resemblance of Peter McKinnon
Great Quality content! I enjoy the small comedy bits. Just Bought the videomic NTG and found your channel. Definitely Sub and Bell notifications! Greetings from Guatemala!
Thanks for this video.
Whew... that was a good'n. Thanks fer the tips!
Hi, how do you cut the breathing sound when on livestream ? Also, which gaining nob number is best ? Thanks
What mic do you think is better? I had the Rode NTG videomic but it was defected so I just returned the microphone just to find out that there are NO Rode NTG videomic’s in the USA!🤦🏻♂️ I am in need of a good microphone for my selftapes. Is the Deity d3 pro as good on the sound as the rode NTG?
Deity d3pro is fantastic!
I am now deciding between the Sony ECM B1 and this Rode NTG. The cons and that worries me with the Sony are the pin. Once it's crooked you're done. But it's so damn good. This Rode NTG is universal and once you decide to sell it. It is not exclusive to Sony users only. So wireless Sony or with cables Rode NTG?
I still prefer the deity, but man it’s like throwing a dart. They both sound pretty good. I like a little less low end so I go deity
I hear you, I end up pulling out some low end on both most of the time anyway. You're in good hands with both... i'd say its more about features at this point.
Dunna Did It I would agree if you want to use it for podcasting it with a USB cable perfect if you don’t really need those extra features or the Recording back up feature save the money and get the Deity...... The only thing that the deity has over the rode is it can record balanced audio with their adapter.
Wow I was stuck between the rode go and the pro.. Now this deity has me thinking
Great review! Super useful!
Excellent Video.. I want to make ASMR videos, so Can I buy Rode videomic NTG or Rode videomic Pro plus? could you please advice. Thank you!
I’d go with the NTG
@@dunnadidit Thank you!!
@@dunnadidit Thank you so much!! One more question. NTG has inbuilt battery and that can't be replaced by user, will it become an issue few years later of using this microphone? your views on this please.
Thank you!
Great video! Thanks for the valuable information! Question for anyone that may be in the know. I recently purchased the Videomic NTG hybrid to use atop my Canon M50 for vlogging and for boom placement for talking head video. The NTG works great atop the camera with the supplied Rode SC10 patch cable.
B&H (multiple reps) ensured me the Rode SC1 extension cable would work to connect the NTG to the M50 for boom application (since the NTG can accept both TRS or TRRS cables). The SC1 does not work. Read online that others had a similar experience. However I have not been able to find info on what cable would work to connect the Videomic NTG to the M50 for boom application. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Good luck to all!
Anyone know how to replace the shockmount? mine broke and I can't figure out how ot get a replacement
I only use a cheap on-camera mic to use as a scratch track for sync ... The Diety and Rode mics are really nice. I am seriously considering the D3 ... good review
Nice!
That new end screen is fire
Thanks!
on the list once I need to up the game, Thanks Dunna
BAM! Thanks for watching!
Does it capture well spoken dialogues by a distance of about 8 feet? I’d like to use it for the recording of a NY speech with 4 collegues. We all need to be in the image at all times so stay at a respectable distance of the camera…
Informative video, Dunna. Thank you. However, I sincerely would like to know how this mic works with the iPhone 15 Pro Max using its USB-C port. While I can use the 3.5mm jack with an adapter, I would prefer to use this mic with its direct USB-C connection with my iPhone 15 Pro max. Many users have complained of awful noise, clipping and awful audio with this mic and the iPhone 15 Pro models. I want to know, do you experience this? If you do, are there any settings which you’ve successfully used to adjust your audio? Can you inform me please? Thanks.
That mic is dope I could really use one of those , I currently use the videomicro , it’s better than onboard camera mic... but lacking a lot
This would be a solid upgrade for sure!
@@dunnadidit oh yeah definitely
Hi, thanks for the review, how can I mount this mic on the Sony Alpha 6400? Do I need some extra equipment?
If you want to move the mic so it doesn’t cover the flip screen, smallrig makes a cold shoe mover
Can the mic used to be a boom mic with a boom pole? Sorry for my bad English
Dunna, great video! Still hoping to maybe see a diagram to see if the VideoMic NTG has a polar pattern and smooth off-axis response when boomed just above me in my home studio. The Røde NTG5 for example is a Super-Cardioid Mic, so leaning a little bit off-axis is okay. Thanks again, brother.
I believe this is also a super-cardioid! I think rode has the specs on their site now!
Great review. Bought it
Sounds great and tempting the rode ntg is but i got the d3 pro for 156dollars. d3 pro still and planning for the d3 in the future for compact and portability purposes. or might just buy a bigger bag. great vid dunna! Happy New Year!
I find myself grabbing the d3 a lot actually just for its smaller size. But I do love those mics. This one is right in between those two size wise.
How did you mount it above your head? Which microphone stand do you use?
Awesome video :) thanks!
Hi Dunna! Thanks for your video. I am wondering how you attached the microphone to your switchpod. What equipment did you use?
Generally I attach the mic to the camera, but you can use a friction arm to attach it to a switchpod.
I film my regular videos in my apartment and have to deal with an air exchange/heat pump hum in the background which feeds my upstairs neighbour, but is located in the basement where my apartment is. I can't turn it off, so that hum in the background is always there and quite annoying. I'm forced to use a Procaster XLR mic fed into a mixer which then feeds the camera. I assume this mic still wouldn't meet my need of cutting out that much hum I have in the background, because I also have the Videomic Pro and it's unusable, there is just too much hum.
If were you to compare this mic with the Videomic pro you have, how do you feel the NTG does cutting out white noise or background noise vs the Videomic pro?
I still have to turn off my fridge when I record lol so I don't think this will fix the problem. I found both those mics to be similar in their ability to block out the noise off axis.
LINK amazon?
Can it work with the OnePlus 6 Smartphone? (for live streams)? Great reviews here! 😊
Hey, will this microphone be able to mount directly onto a regular tripod, or does one need an adapter? Thanks in advance..great video!
The shock mount has a normal 1/4” 20 thread on the bottom (with the small adapter in it) so you can attach to a tripod!
@@dunnadidit awesome, thank you.
i have the NTG and it is amazing
It's pretty solid!
Ahh the RODE on the road, love child ✌🧡
lol.
Is it good for a distance of 13 feet?
So should I buy D3 Pro or NTG???
Like all the features of the Rode but can't justify the price for not much difference in quality over my Deity D3. Love Rode products though. I own three of their mics. Love seeing these companies compete. It's a win win for the consumer
I totally hear you. The quality is nearly identical to my ear. They both sound great.
That is cool. I have one that should be arriving today.
Awesome!
Thank you so much for this insightful review! Currently debating between these two mics. Which one would be a preferable choice for singing? (Need a versatile mic that I can use for both talking and music!) thank you!
How close are you planning on being to the mic when you’re singing??
@@dunnadidit thanks so much for your response! About 6 inches, a little further if I am belting!
@@NikkiSamonteMusic Hmm, I probably wouldn’t use something like this as an actual vocal microphone. You’re better off with something like a large diaphragm condenser for that.
@@dunnadidit gotcha! Thanks so much!! :)
What lense are you using here? Guessing this is a7iii
Would the Rode VideoMic NTG work well with the Arri Alexa Mini as long as you have the proper adapters to plug it in? The Alexa Mini doesn't have a built-in preamp, but this mic claims to have infinitely variable gain that can output at mic or line level, so in theory a preamp shouldn't be needed. Also, this would just be for scratch audio purposes.
Hello, could you tell me if the Rode VideoMic NTG will work with the SR-AX100 audio mixer, the Deity needs plug in power to operate, thanks.
I am fairly new to photography and shoot with the Canon M50 Mirrorless. I want to video nature like ocean sounds and mountain rivers. Is the NTG over kill for me? Should I go for the Rode VideoMic instead?
I think you’d be better to look into something stereo. Maybe an external recorder like the zoom h1.
Cool review man. Do you use it on your 6600? Would be nice to see this run‘n‘gun set-up😉👌
I do! It’s great for that, sounds basically the same as when I have it booked out! M sure you’ll hear it in upcoming videos!
Yeah I'm def getting this
dope!
fantastico NTG, sarà il mio prossimo mic
What the pro of going with an XLR shotgun?
More robust connection, generally better preamps.
Hey? Which extension cable should I use for my ntg to mount on my boom pole for my canon 90D? I got the rode VC1 10 inch cable but it keeps cutting out and I hear static. Which extension cable should I buy or what can I use to extend the cable?
How do I upgrade the firmware on the ntg? You didn’t post it on the description
Thanks for the video! Does anyone know if you can slide the shock mount all the way off that sliding cold shoe mount? Also, if you can do this, are you able to turn the mic 90 degrees and slide it back on? Would be really useful to know this for my rig. I know some cold shoe mounts can only slide on one direction whereas others are square and can slide on left ways or right ways as well as forward and back 👍 Thanks to anyone who can help me with this question! 😃🙌
is the USB cable to connect to a Computer a USB-C or USB A?
I used Rode on the first time can u tell me about the way I set on the mic Rode ?
How does the Sony 16-55 G master compare to the Trio in your opinion? Would give up your sigmas for a 2 in 1 like the G master 16-55 2.8?
Just answered you on another video lol. I'd say that if you can afford it, having the sony zoom would be a great alternative.
Your lut ad was promising :)
What audio interface are you using with the Rode Videomic NTG?
For the part where it was plugged into my computer, I just used a usb cable. It can act as its own interface.
@@dunnadidit wow that's pretty darn impressive! I've read that using Videomic NTG with camera (im using Sony A6600) will have a low hissing noise, is the audio interface really necessary for that?
Try upgrading the firmware. I had a hiss to start with too but the firmware update fixed it
What happens if something goes wrong with the battery? Like if you're using it in a really cold outdoor environment, lithium batteries tend not to hold a charge for very long. Can you supplement the power using an external source? Or can you replace the battery at all if it dies?
You can use it plugged into usbc power. You can’t remove the battery tho
OK Dunna, this new NTG or the Rode wireless go if you had to pick only one?
NTG. I don't like lav mics lol.
@@dunnadidit Time for me to dip into my wallet!
Great video! For me, both are great mic's but the Rode NTG has the better sound quality. 👍
what do you use to mount the microphone into the tripod please? I have been searching for it yesterday but couldn't find exactly what the keyword that one is called
at 5.06 i can still hear buzzing background. Is that normal? i have Mic Go and is disappointed with the buzzing background. Can i just rectify the issue in post processing? so I don't have to buy a new mic
are you experiencing any hissing noises with this mic? Just started using it, and found that there's pretty bad noise at just 4 and the camera setting at a quarter on the eos R.
just troubleshooted this thing for a few hours and finally got it dialed, what a pain in da a$s
Hey! Yes I was, the trick was that it needed a firmware upgrade. Some of the early shipped units had that issue for some reason but they fixed it quick.
I cant find a ball head mount from 1/4 inch female to a cold shoe!!! Any help appreciated!
What microphone do you recommend for daily vlogs shot on iPhone?
Check out the rode videomic me (i believe thats what its called.)
