Been living in Thailand for 17 years, 6 on Samui, 3 in Chiang Mai and the rest in Pattaya. It's a great place to live as long as you live on the east side where all the expats are (The Darkside), great bars, restaurants, schools, parks, markets etc. We only go into town to shop or have a mooch about. Looking at Pattaya city and Jomtien is a waste for people looking to live here long term, those areas are for tourists and oil workers that come and go on tourist visas, they don't represent Pattaya as whole by a long shot. I much prefer living here to Samui or Chiang Mai, everything I want is within 10 or 15 minutes reach, it's set up for western expats. Plus the air is way cleaner than CM all year round and we don't have to deal with quite so many elephant pant wearing pseudo-hippies. BTW, prices are way cheaper on the East side of town over the railway, bars, food, everything.
Yes mate, if I lived here I would move out in the suburbs of the city more. As long as your happy mate, we all like different things. I could probably live in Rayong or outskirts of Pattaya. Not sure about the better air all year round though mate. Cheers

Nothing wrong with Patts though, but it would do my head in after a few weeks. Living in Thailand is a bit different then a holiday though buddy. People do live in Pattaya and Jomtien on a budget. After living in Pattaya for 8 months I have moved to Jomtien. I much prefer Jomtien as it is quieter and still has plenty of action if you want it. 10 minutes on the baht bus and you are back into Pattaya anyway. Love the each life.
Glad to see you're starting to like Pattaya , it does take a bit of time to get used to it , the trouble was I never wanted to leave , Jomtiem really seems the place to chill . 😊
If you stay too long in Pattaya, you may find you need to leave for a few days😁 Koh Samet is a great place to clear the mind. Take a girl with you! They love it there. Dinner on the beach at night and a fire show. Great👍🏻
Yes Wayne, Jomtien much more chilled than Pattaya but still has its bars and if one wants to have a big one in nut house Pattaya it's a 10 baht bus trip away. Jomtien more the Expat place to live while Pattaya the sin city party place for those looking for the action. Cheers buddy.

A lot of people talk garbage about the area that have spent very little or no time there , the heart of Pattaya is full of tourists in party mode much like Patong , but outside there are some nice spots that are very well priced . Jomtien is a nice mix for me on a long stay with a nice condo and a pool , and south of there is a whole coastline of beaches and islands that escape the mainstream tourists .
Another nice video, glad you liked Jomtien. I cant believe you walked all the way to Pattaya... legend! If you go back to Jomtien, check out Thai food good taste restaurant. Lovely family serving amazing food and just off beach road near nirvana hotel. 😊

Nice blog, like Jomtien also better than Pattaya. I wonder what is your preference between Hua Hin and Jomtien. Regarding the mongering. no judgement here, but the thing is that in Pattaya the main activity for older men is mongering while in Chiang Mai it can be a night out in the bars here and there, that is not quite mongering.
Thanks! Yes, I wouldn't class myself as a full blown monger, but I do live in Chiang Mai and ofcourse I meet girls sometimes and date sometimes. Regarding Hua Hin, I would say Pattaya is much more of a monger paradise. Hua Hin is no slouch though, alot of bars and girls.
The vlog was worth it just the see the guy with the wig next to you on the songthaew to Jomtien! Pattaya really caters to all types. But, it is changing fast with the Indian & Chinese intake and probably not in a good way.
No baht bus from the beach and foot of Pratumnak Soi 5 up past the Big Buddha and down past the Pattaya City sign & park.Take about 40 minutes on foot.
The inn town hotel across the road has a roof top pool. It used to be the same owners as your ome. Go and ask if you can take a look. Great views up there too👍🏻
I stayed in Pattaya for a few months twice this year. It’s alot of fun in moderation. There are no offices, colleges, no industry. Just entertainment. For long term living I’d chose a “normal” city next time
Pattaya does not seem like the kind of place I could live but I do plan on visiting. Jomtien might be okay for a long term stay. Staying in Nana for the next couple nights so maybe i'll get a taste of Pattaya.
Good video, Wayne. Any idea on what kind of budget would be necessary for a week in Pattaya? I'm looking to travel to Thailand later in the year and trying to figure out my budget. My plan would be Bangkok for 3 days, then travel north for a week and then to Pattaya for a week. I don't drink or smoke. I would like to have a fun time, but no idea what kind of budget would be good there. I hear different numbers, ranging from 5,000 baht per day to 10,000 to 15,000 baht per day if you want a crazy time.
Cheers buddy! I'm probably not the best to ask about Pattaya budget mate. I've only been here a few days. The budgets here could range from all sorts. I'm sure a Pattaya regular will give some info on this comment. Cheers
I've never spent anything close to 35,000 in a week - I'd be disappointed to spend 20,000. But if you're one for the girls, luxury accommodation, posh eateries and taxis, it will be expensive.
If you’re not drinking, 5000THB is plenty to see you through a day - even with action! Drinks for the girls in their bars and shots etc is where it gets silly. Just keep your head about you. But if you’re not drinking I don’t see how you dent 5k/day pal
Walking in extreme heat is one of the best ways to lose weight. In just one month in Thailand, I lost 5 kg. Oh, also by eating clean, natural food. If it weren't for my 2 old ladies here, I'd be there in a sec.@@WalkAboutWayne
Another great walkabout thanks Wayne .there’s plenty more to see in Jomtien . Very brave walking back . Ear plugs are a good option with all noisy bikes 🚴
Love it in Jomtiem different world mate I love it there Wayne a nice few bars accommodation is 30 percent cheaper even food is cheaper but you have more happy hours there beer maybe cheaper in Pattaya
If you get a chance, jump the baht bus even further down Jomtien Beach. That area you got off around North Jomtien and Dongtan Beach is *okay*, but still a little like Pattaya-lite. You can head all the way south to Na Jomtien right at the end of the baht bus route and have 100 meter stretches of beach to yourself. And rip off prices, but....Tinnie's Pies in Jomtien are/is are phenomenal.....but the sausage rolls are ballsacks.
Minutes 3.25 You can take a baht bus from tree town, all the way to Jomtien bus stop (minutes 7.25) Then go all the way to Jomtien. Two buses total. Yes you don't need to rent a motorcycle or car. Outside Central Festival you can take a baht bus all the way to terminal 21. You can ask the Thai locals, they will know.
@@WalkAboutWayne I went to Chiang Mai 3 weeks ago. Bolt taxi app is better than songthaew imo. I went with gf, so had to pay for 2. If one person songthaew could be good. If 2 people 100 percent bolt. The best bet like you said, is to drive a motorcycle. If I was to stay Chiang Mai, I would learn to drive
Believe me you wouldn`t want to be getting baht buses from Jomtien to Pattaya or vice versa after early morning. They are packed and sweaty and can take up to an hour in the Pattaya direction because of the road works. A motorbike taxi would be 80 baht but worth the extra imo. They were great during covid though. You really should have stayed in Jomtien longer, your walk back was via Dongtan Beach and Pratumnak.
Nice one Wayne. The mystery of whether or not your arsh was alone last night in your room.... did you include an easter egg in the video? 00:14:15 has me wondering.... You're a bad bad man Wayne 😂😂😂 Take it easy.
@@WalkAboutWayne I hear ya. Plenty of relatively cheap condos with sea views 1-2 mins walk from the very decent beach, along with perhaps the most insane nightlife in the world a 5-10 min baht bus ride away... that's pretty special.
Thai people would say that a farang that lives in Chiang Mai is defo better than a farang that lives in Pattaya - Chiang Mai attracts long term, well behaved farang, Pattaya attracts 'cheap farang' (don't shoot the messenger, this is a quote from my Thai wife)
That's probably generally the Thai perception, but the beach and beach road at Jomtien are rather lovely, and the air quality is better. There's more of a holiday feel, whereas Chiang Mai has more of a steady living feel.
I agree with your thai wife. Pattaya people is what thai locals call westerners who I describe as just released from prison. They argue over 50 baht happy hour beers like they're broke bums.
You were staying soi honey hooker street. Up around soi 2 or 3 there are great places to stay. Way more relaxing and just a 5 min baht bus ride away from the action if want to have a good night out Nice walk back. Pattaya actually is a great place to keep fit if you have can avoid going on the beer and women all the time😅
Enjoy your videos.. But u didnt see a lot of Jomtien.. u walked to the right which u went into Pratumnak . If u went to the left all down there is Jomtien and na Jomtien where the beach goes on for a few km..
Move to Jomtien, don't stay in Pattaya (Central area). I will become depressed if having to stay in Pattaya Central, such crowded, noisy, and smelly area.
Yeah for sure. With 10 baht, 20 minute public transport it is way better to stay in the more laidback, quieter area and just head into "the city" to do shopping, buy kebabs and then escape.
@@WalkAboutWayne HAHAHA Waynee Poo. I'm a Aussie and I know some pommel slang, hahaha, I know what a syrup is mate. I'll never forget a syrup I have been unlucky enough to saw in Phuket many years ago. ' COP THE SYRUP ON THAT ' was the spouse roar. The bloke on the Baht Bus looked very SMART.

Your very perceptive observant . I noticed the rude farangs wont move a few inches walking down narrow walkways. They put a negative greedy vibe . It always takes me a few days to adjust to pattaya . Avoidance is the key.
also no shame in the game Wanye. You may be 50 but it doesn't matter. Don't let poeple judgment stop you getting what you want. Date who ever you want and if you are happy, you are winning.
To me, Chiang Mai is #1, and Jomtien is #2 because Chiang Mai just has more personality. Pattaya is exactly what you said about it. It only exists for 1 reason.
I shave my head but refuse to wear a hat as it keeps the heat in and I get way hotter. Just put on a ton of sunscreen so you won’t get a burn. Ditch the hat and you will be cooler.

Yes mate, I got the baht bus a few times. Took me a while to get to grips with it all though. It's a bit different up here in Chiang Mai.
8:09 Be safe and careful. Falling off or getting hurt is very bad. How far is it to go from Pattaya to Jomtien?
3 miles, maybe 4
Thanks! I was on the bus for about 5/10 minutes. Not far.
Yes, I did see a few buses packed to the rafters. I must of got lucky, it wasn't to bad for me.
You should go to Cafe Racer, my mate ownes it. Tell him Oz told you about it? He an old army buddy of mine!
Nice! Maybe next time mate.
How long was the ride on the baht bus from Pattaya to Jomtien?...and dare I ask how long it took to walk on the way back? lol.
Always 10 baht
About 10 minutes on the bus. It took me at least 30 to 40 minutes to walk back.
Nice one Wayne.
The mystery of whether or not your arsh was alone last night in your room.... did you include an easter egg in the video?
00:14:15 has me wondering.... You're a bad bad man Wayne 😂😂😂
Take it easy.
🤣🤣🤣 it's a mystery mate .
The dude with the bad hair 🤣.... Elvis is alive!!!😎
That guy is a celebrity now 🤣. He was so funny.
Imagine the sights that hotel room has seen though the years.
Replaced a few beds I reckon 🤣
Lived in Jomtien for 2 years much nicer than Pattaya. Enjoy.
Thanks buddy 👍
In Phuket loved to have met u ah well great work
I might be in Phuket one day mate. Thanks.
My first night in Chang Mai tonight
Nice one Colin, She's a special city, my girl. Look after her until I get back mate.
Okay! I see ya..you got your strut back!!mobbing down the street with that swag, son!
Or was it the birdie dazzler from last night that’s got you on Strut mode😂
No comment 🤣
Beautiful place
👍👍
Impressed by Jomtien, huh... Is the dyed in the wool Northerner having a rethink, Wayne?
Jomtien was more my style mate.Let's not get carried away though 🤣. It would need to be something really special to take me away from my North.
@@WalkAboutWayne I hear ya. Plenty of relatively cheap condos with sea views 1-2 mins walk from the very decent beach, along with perhaps the most insane nightlife in the world a 5-10 min baht bus ride away... that's pretty special.
@@gsomethingsomething2658 I've loved my time down around Pattaya / Jomtien though mate. I wouldn't rule it out. I'll defo be coming back.
@@WalkAboutWayne heres a question Hua Hin or Jomtien?
@@Zerinth That's a tough one, I've not spent enough time or seen all of Jomtien. Hua Hin would be more for me I think.
Yes, I think the average Thai person would say that .
I agree with your thai wife. Pattaya people is what thai locals call westerners who I describe as just released from prison. They argue over 50 baht happy hour beers like they're broke bums.
That 20 year old man behind you on the baht bus looks like he knows Pattaya well, and is a hit with the ladies.
He was a right Bobby Dazzler. Wish I interviewed him. 🤣
you mean a "shegxpat"😅or a bobbydazzipat ... nice beach take a dive and chill mate🏊♀it looks hot 🥵
Haha thanks . I'm a choir boy really .
8:50 😋
I know I had one leaving my room this morning 🫰
Good man 👍
Congrats on your honesty regarding mongering. So glad you admitted it head on.
Thanks! Probably not a full blown monger, but I'm no saint, I like Women. Best to be honest 👍
If it weren't for my GF, I'd be a full-blown monger.@@WalkAboutWayne
When is your Chiang Mai flight? LOL😆
Whenever I want , but not yet 👌
Good on ya mate.
Cheers John mate.
Also, what camera do you use?
GoPro 11 👌
Was that Benny Hill on the baht bus with you wearing a wig?
🤣🤣 He was such a character. Just kept staring 🤣
@WalkAboutWayne He actually looks like the actor Bob Todd from the Benny Hill show.
Go to Jomtien Night Market to get food!
Nice 👍
Don't get into the baht buses that are parked, you can just flag them down when they are driving by,, they will stop for you, no waiting that way...
Luckily I didn't have to wait for any, but yes, that's what I'll be doing next time.
👍😎
👌👌
Was your hotel "guest" friendly?
Yes. Stayed there many times
Yes 👍
Good job you are out of CM Wayne. The pollution levels have been crazy high. 😱
Yeah it's been pretty bad. I think they've had some rain overnight though.
@@WalkAboutWayne Nice one Wayne 🙂👍🏼
You were staying soi honey hooker street. Up around soi 2 or 3 there are great places to stay. Way more relaxing and just a 5 min baht bus ride away from the action if want to have a good night out
Nice walk back. Pattaya actually is a great place to keep fit if you have can avoid going on the beer and women all the time😅
It was an experience staying on Soi Honey, that's for sure 🤣
This is why Expats stay in Pattaya/ Jomtien area because everything is custom made for Expats life becomes very easy.
Yes, everything is set up for the westerner.
A proper room for 600 Bath in the center of sin city is a real bargain.
Yeah, it wasn't bad at all 👍
Jimmy Saville alive and kicking in jomtien 😂
That guy made the whole vlog, he was so funny.
Please get a baht bus and go to Soi 6 in the evening 😊
I went to Soi 6 mate 👍
Pattaya room no go, can’t even swing a cat in there. Heard that saying from a bloke. Lol 😂
Proper English saying that mate. No room to swing a cat 🤣
Soi baukhao, the most depressing street in Asia😂
It looked quite jolly 🤣
Enjoy your videos.. But u didnt see a lot of Jomtien.. u walked to the right which u went into Pratumnak . If u went to the left all down there is Jomtien and na Jomtien where the beach goes on for a few km..
Yep, flying visit. I'm sure there's lots more to see. 👍
@@WalkAboutWayne maybe next time 😁
3 days at Jomtien in February 2023. That was the smelliest/stinkiest beach I’ve ever been too. No way would I go in that water.
I'm not sure what the water is like, I thought the beaches in Pattaya and Jomtien, weren't too bad .
We all punters one way or the other if choice or opportunity appear
I guess so 👍
The only mongering on dongtien beach you can do is if you're looking for that special guy
🤣🤣🤣
How didn’t I clock into this. All week I’ve been going down there giving them some eye candy totally oblivious 😂😂😂
If I lived here, I think I would be in Jomtien 👍
Tommy Coopers replaced his Fez with a syrup
🤣🤣 What a character he was on the bus. Be was fascinated with the camera .
Wear your monger badge with pride matey.
👌👌👌
John Wayne @ 7:38
🤣🤣🤣
Good onya Waynee Poo. 😅😅😅
Cheers Wally 👌
@@WalkAboutWayne HAHAHA Waynee Poo. I'm a Aussie and I know some pommel slang, hahaha, I know what a syrup is mate. I'll never forget a syrup I have been unlucky enough to saw in Phuket many years ago. ' COP THE SYRUP ON THAT ' was the spouse roar. The bloke on the Baht Bus looked very SMART.
@@wallywombat164 Nice one mate, the Aussie and English lingo is pretty similar I think. Wayne Poo 🤣 My Mum use to call me that. Syrup is cockney slang. I would always say syrup haha. That bloke on the bus has become bit of a celebrity 🤣
@@WalkAboutWayne Hey Waynee, I'm not a Brit. I'm from Brasil mate.
@@WalkAboutWayne G'Day Waynee. Mate, I lived in Jomtien for quite a while. I still regard it as home. I had many friends to hang around with, most around old parts age like YA SEL. great daily friends and company.
Your very perceptive observant . I noticed the rude farangs wont move a few inches walking down narrow walkways. They put a negative greedy vibe . It always takes me a few days to adjust to pattaya . Avoidance is the key.
It's been different but I've had a good time.
Pro tip, dont put a blue light to the walls and bed anywhere in Pattaya, disturbing... 😮
🤣🤣🤣
Bet you’re glad to be out of Chiang Mai at the moment the pollution level
Has been 180 , Jomtien looks a place to be instead of Pattaya central.
I thinks it's been a lot higher than 180. Yes, good to be away for a while .
also no shame in the game Wanye. You may be 50 but it doesn't matter. Don't let poeple judgment stop you getting what you want. Date who ever you want and if you are happy, you are winning.
Happy Days mate 👍
Hey Wayne, get yourself a some Vaseline and rub it on your cracked heels and put a sock on it before bed. It works, wonder. Cheers!
It does work well mate, done it a lot. Always ruins my floor though.
To me, Chiang Mai is #1, and Jomtien is #2 because Chiang Mai just has more personality. Pattaya is exactly what you said about it. It only exists for 1 reason.
Nice! Chiang Mai is my place, but maybe I'll move to a nearby town in the future.
I shave my head but refuse to wear a hat as it keeps the heat in and I get way hotter. Just put on a ton of sunscreen so you won’t get a burn. Ditch the hat and you will be cooler.
God, I would be burnt to a crisp mate, even with Factor 50. Hats do heat you up though, I agree.
That’s known as Soi Honey that you on
Nice 👌👌
The Indian tourists come to Pattaya after they see an Indian movie name Thai Massage.
I've never seen that 👌
Behind Robin Hood the ave food court very cheap food 2 rd Try. Lk metro time bar 50 bahts beer all day and night Mike shopping mail for clothes
50 Baht beer sounds good! Thanks 👍
Na man, you not a monger/sexpat unless you only there for the boom boom .. I’m sure other aspects of 🇹🇭&CM come first 🤣
True mate,I'm probably mongering slating myself a bit too much in this vlog 🤣. I'm no saint, but I don't think I'm on the mongering scale of full blown mongers 🤣.
@@WalkAboutWayne totally, when you start rating or only travelling to locations based upon the price of girls then we’ll know you slipped into mongerdom 🤣🤣
Correct, mongering is a full time thing. A night in the town here and there is not mongering.
Chavs on tour.
Cool story Bro
