Hi! I'm want to make sweaters as gifts for next Christmas so this is a great start. Thank you! However, I'd like to make them with different stitches. For instance, I want to make one with a waffle stitch on the front and a grit stitch on the back and arms. Should I just count the stitches and adjust the stitch pattern to fit the initial sweater pattern/count? Both stitches are two-stitch counts but I worry about the waffle stitch. But, wouldn't that make a great sweater?
This is a great tutorial. I really enjoyed this. I appreciate how you explain the shaping of the sweater. I learn something from you every time I watch a video. Kitty is adorable.
i've made this twice now! once for my bestie and once for myself! amazing stuff. i'm a woman btw. love the pattern and you made it so easy with this video! i'm a beginner btw.
I really love the idea of chaining one then making a half double crochet! I never thought of that! I wish I knew what yarn you were using because it's really colorful and pretty! I also love the idea of doing the "easy" part first.
I'm actually following the yarnspirations skull sweater (with a different design on the front) but used this tutorial to figure out how to put it all together! very clear instructions, thank you!
Hi from UK I love your channel your so cute and funny, and I will be making this for my son. I'm obsessed with crochet, I'm retired so can crochet all day if I want and it makes me so happy. Thank you for the tutorial.
Hi, I see he crochet the product with 2 strands of yarn, does that match the amount of yarn in the pattern or do I need buy double the number of balls?
Thank you for the video! I have such a hard time following the written instructions. Also your humor is so refreshing 😊 looking forward to finishing this project
super grateful for this video, I was using the written pattern as is my preference, but the instructions completely fall apart at the end and there's no guides for the construction of the sweater. If I had gone off the written pattern alone, I would have assembled my sleeves wrong and I wouldn't have known. Also the instructions for how they want you to add the collar was SO confusing to me. I read it and thought, why wouldn't I just sew the whole piece together and *then* add the collar? Which is what you did in the video so thank you for the validation! This is my first shaped sweater and I would have been totally heartbroken if I assembled it wrong due to not understanding the writing
I thought I recognized that yarn! 😁I’m working on my own sweater design with the Red Heart Roll With It Melange in the Hollywood color way. Just have the sleeves to go (waiting on yarn week at Hobby Lobby to get more yarn). Mine is crochet moss stitch, just a single strand, but wow, it makes a cuddly sweater that still drapes very well. I wasn’t in need of a thicker sweater this time, so the single strand was perfect for me. I’m thrilled to see your videos this morning! 😊 I’ve never constructed a sweater in the flat, open way like you did, and it looks like it simplifies the assembly with squared set in sleeves!
Great tutorial and pattern!! My dad has been asking me to make him a sweater since I started knitting/crocheting so I'll be making this as a surprise for him :D!!
Thank you for making this tutorial! I have never made a garment. I found this lateen many years ago but have never had nerve to try and make it. I’ll be looking through my stash sometime to plan this project. Thank you!!
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation of the pattern and the whole tutorial, Mike! The jumper definitely looks great. I will try making one for my partner. Have a wonderful week!💖✌🏻
Aw man I wish I saw this before I started working on this sweater but it’s ok bc I wanted to make it stripped and I didn’t so I’m going to restart and follow this video 😊
Thank you! I have no idea how I missed this when you first posted it, but it's going into my WIPs right now! I love the pattern and am looking forward to trying it. Hi, I see you crochet the product with 2 strands of yarn, does that match the amount of yarn in the pattern or do I need buy double the number of balls? thanks
Hi Mickie, ok so ive tried 1other mans sweater & it was a disaster! So i hope this one works out Im on shape Armholes OMG so far so good! Ty for the amazing tutorial 😊
Hi first of all I love your work, the patterns and your explanation are clear and easy to follow❤ I just a have one question, I'm a beginner and a want to crochet this sweather for my boyfriend's birthday. I choose to use a yarn that have light weight (2) how can I make this pattern work for my yarn? Sorry for my english 😊
I just saw your video today and I am going to try and make a sweater for my father. I love the colors of your sweater. Can you tell me what yarns you used? It looks like you used to different balls at the same time. This will be the first time I try to make this type of sweater I usually make granny square sweaters.
I have a question about the sleeves. I’m making an extra large so my stitch count after 17 more times is 67 hdc. Then I know I skip the next step, it’s only for smaller sizes. Then where I’m confused is the next row the stitch count is confusing, 49 (57-61)hdc I thought they were for the smaller sizes but then after the “next 3 rows” the stitch count is 57 (61-63)hdc! It makes no sense to me. I first number increases by 8sts, then the next 4 and the last only 2. Can you please explain. Thanks!!
is there a typo with the sleeves? because for the small size shouldn’t the stitch count be 55 rather than 57 after increasing 3 times after a stitch count of 49? i’m soo close to finishing my first sweater using the pattern and this video and everything has gone so well up until now! i really appreciate u making this video!! its been incredibly helpful!
@@wendylcm7643 Thank you!!! I read the post instructions. He did use Red Heart Melange, 8 balls in total-4 of the colour Curtain Call and 4 of Paparrazi. The finished sweater was just so cheerful, even for a winter item. Great job, Mikey!
I could use some advice- if I increase the size of my larger hook (according to the gauge check), do I also need to increase the size of my smaller hook to match? This pattern only has the sizing for a gauge check of the larger hook, and I really don't want to end up with too-small ribbing! For me, the larger hook had to be sized up to 7mm to meet the required measurements. Should I use a 6.5mm as my smaller hook, instead of the 5.5? I've tried looking online and can't find any answers.
Thank you for this tutorial! It’s saving me atm. I’m stuck on the sleeves foundation row though, it says chain 33 then start dc from 4th chain from hook, wouldn’t that mean 30dc, not 31?
I'm an intermediate lvl crocheter (been crocheting for almost 2 years now nonstop) I've read a lot of patterns and this is by far one of the most confusing ones I've done. I just can't get it right! I have the front and back panels done and I'm working on the sleeve. It's looking right, but the assembly is what's messing me up!
Thanks so much for a great pattern. I am working on the sleeves. Can I just clarify - I am making an XL. Once I have repeated rows 3 and 4 17 times, do I jump straight to the penultimate line of the new instructions?
You can ignore! I realised it is much clearer with the colour coding on the pattern. I had printed the instructions in black and white hence my confusion! One more sleeve to go before I piece this bad boy together!!
So I discovered this video later on but like I hadn't started much of my project yet.It did help me in some way but I'm not sure why my back portion has started to look like wings even though the stitches are the same. Either my stitches keep decreasing or even without increasing it starts to broaden.
This pattern is so good🖤🤍thank you so much for this....am actually making one for a friend and am done with the body,,,,,but stuck with the sleeves😩💔I followed your pattern but the sleeves looks smaller than the part am supposed to attach it too......I need help ASAP 😭
Not sure if this has been answered before but this video shows working double stranded. Would this be holding two worsted together or two smaller weights together?
I notice you are using 2 strands held together of the Red Heart Roll With It, and I looked it up and saw it is a category 4 yarn, is there a reason you are doing this? Also, are you using more than one color of the Red Heart? It looks so good!
He answers that in the link available in the description. Under the heading MIKEY'S SWEATER MARLED VERSION He explains why he did that and how much yarn he used for the size he made himself 😊
@@ChickOnRadio it’s in the article between the section “sleeves rewrite” and the photo of his sweater in process of being stitched together. It is right before his personal photos If you aren’t finding the link - it is in the video’s description and he also made a comment with the link that he pinned to the top of the comment section. Am I seeing things? The ribbing was done smaller grey hook then bony started with larger red then about 18:43 reading of video hooks switched to grey smaller again I noticed cause I have exact same hooks😊
Mikey, I will be making this for a friend who is 6 ft 2 in and thinking of proportions, may I ask how tall you are? I want to also make the L size, but with the pattern measurements, I need to know where the length this is going to end up on hip placement. Thank you! I love this pattern 🥰
Why not crocheting in round? The reason why I would crochet a sweater rather than knit is the ability to be able to wear and see if it fits or need to unravel a couple of stitches, whereas knitting on two needles dont let you to do this unless you put the whole work on cast which is a pan in the ***
It’ll come with time, and remember your first garment WILL be a bitch to make no matter what. It’s a “learn as you go” process for sure, committing to seeing it that way might help. Biggest advice I have is to use granny squares and small amigurumi flowers/critters until you’re comfortable reading patterns and know a variety of stitches. Then maybe move on to a blanket, they’re so much more forgiving when it comes to practicing sewing/joining pieces Just take it slow and remember crochet isn’t as much of a beast as knitting, mistakes can easily be undone and corrected! And it should be fun! No pressure, if it gets to be stressful, take a step back. But mind not to promise anyone a sweater as a gift while still a beginner like I did 😂
Mikey, I love this sweater. It looks great on you!! 🤗Thanks for always going the extra mile to show us how to make any pattern easier to understand & accomplish🌞❤️
why is this sweater gendered? all sorts of human beings would love to wear it :) also, your hat is amazing! Love the colorway. Thanks for your videos, they are super helpful.
Probably because men and women genetically have different body shapes. Which is why men's pants won't fit the same as a woman's pair even if you get the same measurements in the waist. But anyone could wear this sweater just cause it's tailored more for men's typical shape doesn't mean women couldn't rock it. I personally love men's hoodies because they are more roomy in the arms than what I tend to find in the women's

Mikey, I will be making this for a friend who is 6 ft 2 in and thinking of proportions, may I ask how tall you are? I want to also make the L size, but with the pattern measurements, I need to know where the length this is going to end up on hip placement. Thank you! I love this pattern 🥰
i can’t say for L, but i’m making an XL and it’s a little over 26 inches from shoulder to bottom ribbing!
@@deigratiaro Thank you!
What is the difference between to fit chest measurement and finished chest?
LOVE Kitty!!! :D
Why not crocheting in round? The reason why I would crochet a sweater rather than knit is the ability to be able to wear and see if it fits or need to unravel a couple of stitches, whereas knitting on two needles dont let you to do this unless you put the whole work on cast which is a pan in the ***
You would need to find a pattern than can do that. Iot's all about the upper yoke area.
The cuff is back and front post but on pattern its just HDC?
Follow instructions for ribbing
why did you skip showing how to do the sleeves?
❤❤❤
My count was off too 😭😭 no clue why
🙂🙂
I wish i saw this before i made a whole hat wrong
i am even more confused clearly this is beyond my ability
It’ll come with time, and remember your first garment WILL be a bitch to make no matter what. It’s a “learn as you go” process for sure, committing to seeing it that way might help. Biggest advice I have is to use granny squares and small amigurumi flowers/critters until you’re comfortable reading patterns and know a variety of stitches. Then maybe move on to a blanket, they’re so much more forgiving when it comes to practicing sewing/joining pieces
Just take it slow and remember crochet isn’t as much of a beast as knitting, mistakes can easily be undone and corrected! And it should be fun! No pressure, if it gets to be stressful, take a step back. But mind not to promise anyone a sweater as a gift while still a beginner like I did 😂
And i am egiht name kennedi
So confusing.
