Thank you for this detailed tutorial! I just made this sweater for my mom as a Christmas present. It fits her like a glove and she loves the sweater alot. ❤ 🧶
Been crochetting for like 3 months as a self taught man. Started with smaller things and my friends kid has been acting as my 3yr old geunie pig😂 This has been my first sized sweater - which the whole ides was, to make my own - and I loved the challenge of figuring out the stitch, but now I'm almost at joining for the bottom halves, and I'm almost blind stitching. Really GREAT video and tutorial! Thank you!
Congrats, keep on! I taught myself to knit and crochet when I was in my 20s and have come back to it recently. And you can take it anywhere. I remember when my mother was waiting to do various school activities that she sit in the car and would crochet waiting for us. Or at a Dr office, or beach or anywhere . Viva your yarn fun!!!1🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I just bought this pattern, my first pattern purchase ever, to make for a Christmas gift for my husband. I will refer to this video to make sure I’m doing it right
I have just made this jumper for my husband and it turned out great! Thank you for this wonderful pattern and tutorial video. I’m still very new to crochet but this pattern has boosted my confidence to trying out more garments. For anyone wanting to substitute yarn - I used 100% wool that matched the weight/ply specified on the pattern and did a gauge swatch. I had to go up 1 hook size to meet gauge for the larger and smaller hooks. The fit was really good, I only needed to lengthen the arms. I live in New Zealand so I have to substitute yarns as we only get limited varieties here.
Thanks for this pattern and the tutorial. I was able to complete my sweater with very little difficulty (and minimal unravelling)! And the Mary Maxim Natural Alpaca is perfect for this project.
I can't wait to make this! I've purchased your pattern....but I haven't finished my last MJ's project yet.....but I see this as xmas gifts for this year!!!! THANK YOU!
This is so wonderful! Just what I was looking for - a textured but not too complicated pattern. Thank you SO MUCH for this well explained tutorial! 👌🏻💝💝💝
Lovely pattern, thank you, I can't wait to make it! 😊 Quick query -after we use the 4.0mm hook to make the 4 chains for each armhole do we change back to the 4.5mm hook to complete the body before the bottom ribbing?
I read that your daughter just moved out? MJ!! You are not old enough to be the Mother of a person that old!😳🤯‼️ The young man in the photo is also your Son? No. Way. (I’m literally stunned at how young you look!🩷)
@@mjsoffthehook I’m just blown away! You are so talented and beautiful. I hope you are able to continue doing what you love. I can remember when I first learned about you and now you have grown so much and are sharing so many wonderful crochet designs. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future. (I think this video is the first one I’ve commented on. I’m not one who comments much but I did want to let you know how much I appreciate your hard work and designs. You are extremely talented!)
MJ! I was so excited to see your newsletter in my email this morning! I’d wondered what happened. Technology can be our best friend but sometimes it rears its ugly head! What a beautiful sweater you have designed and I cannot wait to hook it! Your models shown in the intro of this video & your email (you included) look fantastic in your design. I’m really looking forward to this! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this fabulous pattern and tutorial. I have made the body of the jumper in an adult size and have now started on the first sleeve. Where you say to do 3 rounds before every decrease I’m wondering whether that also applies for an adult size? I would really like to decrease as I go but this is my first go at making a jumper and I’m unfamiliar with how that works without guidance. Is it 3 rounds no matter what size, or is it size dependant? Thank you.
Love the pattern! Think I might make this for my dad. I have nothing against people using acrylic, but I think it's kinda wild a company can call their yarn "natural alpaca" when it's 77% acrylic and 20% alpace.
I love this pattern and the yarn is gorgeous, however for future tutorials could you please prioritize solid yarns? It was so hard to see the stitches because of the flecks in the yarn 😢
This sweater is so pretty. Could you please recommend a different yarn to make it in?? I can't wear anything in alpaca or wool anymore. Thanks MJ!! 👸💜🐈
Hi the aran/worsted weight yarn I've bought says to use a size 5mm hook, I've used the 4mm on the collar as said in the video but its really tight so do I go up a hook size or do I loosen my tension?
I have been searching for a pattern that would work for my husband and this is perfect! Approximately how long did it take you to complete? Seeing if I can manage to finish by mid-february lol.
Hi MJ! How much yarn did it take to make this sweater? I am very intimidated to attempt this one. It is so gorgeous. I definitely understand the stitches but I am worried about the increasing and decreasing. And the lengths.
Hi I'm making this right now and loving it so far. Just got to where you close up under the armpits but you didn't say what we do when we finish a round. Is it slip stitch, and chain 2? Mine is looking wonky :(
when you list the crochet hooks what is the 6 and 7 beside the hook sizes G and G+? Not sure why my rib is so thick and tight. Wondering if I should use bigger hook sizes? I made the girls granny stitch cardigans and they came out perfect! I appreciate your tutorials, thank you for posting them.
I used a 4mm and a 4.5mm crochet hook. I do not go by the letters since different crochet hook companies label them differently. The G/6 if just from a standard chart conversion sheet I do not know what the numbers stand for.
I want to make this for my son but he wants a looser fit around the chest and hands. How do I do that? He is a size Small, I am thinking of sizing up to a Medium would that be enough?
I’m currently making this for myself and I’m wondering after connecting the arms and we get to the end of round 2 do we slip stitch in the chain 1 from the previous row or the post stitch?
In your pic wearing this gorgeous sweater it looks a little large on you. What size do you typically wear? Love, love, love it, have the Brava Tweed yarn and just starting it!!
Can you use single crochet instead of double if you want less gaping so it’s not see through? Would it change the stitch count too or just the height and take longer to finish?
Hi MJ. I made this crochet sweater for my son (1st time crocheting a sweater). The sweater is complete but with a slight glitch. ...... it's too big!! My son's size is medium but I ended up making an extra large. It's too big from the sleeves, armpits and torso down. How do I fix this?? Someone suggested shrinking it in the washing machine but I'm too afraid to do that in case it shortens the length 😕. Please help
i had this same issue: the rest of the sweater fits perfect but the collar is massive on my boyfriend. i’m not sure how she got her collar to fit normally. i’m going to try blocking it to see if it makes any difference.
I've begun this amazing sweater for a friend. Could I ask what size you made for your husband? I'm debating between large/extra large - I believe they are similar sized. Thank you!!
its 28 rounds for mens size large. if you go to MJ off the hook blog page the written pattern is there for size female and Male xs to 5x I follow both the video and the written pattern and it is turning out really well .( making mens size large for my husband )
Hola buenos días quisiera tejer el suéter es para mi hijo se me hace un poco difícil en la parte donde van las v cuando hay que hacer nuevos cordones como puedo comprar el patrón
Can you please show a slower paced video version of doing the connecting stitches ( the V stitches). I’m a novice that bought the pattern and not familiar with making clothing. This will be a holiday gift so I want to be sure I do this right. Edit to add, I tried slowing the video down to .25 but it was difficult to see the stitches you were working on. Second edit. The written instructions specify that in every V stitch ( I’m on Round 2), there needs to be a V stitch. I think this is where I’m messing up. Since the V stitches are hard to see, noting there should be 4 V stitches in that round would help people remember to not forget those.
She’s definitely not going to answer this question because she doesn’t want you to figure out your own measurements. She wants you to purchase her over priced written pattern 🙄
Yes, I ran into this also. I even drew the 16 stitches on paper, marking 2 for dc and 2 for fpdc and still came up with ending on 2 fpdc before the next v stitch. Did you figure it out, or just go with it? Looking at photos from other's, it looks like they just went with it as written in the pattern vs the tutorial.
I figured it out! Went back and slowed the video down to .25 and you can see where she pushes the 2nd stitch of the v stitch aside to put the hook in the first loop of the 2nd dc v stitch of the first row. As I resumed the video, she does make note of this after the 2nd v stitch when going into the first section of 32 stitches.

This is my first crochet sweater, its been so easy to follow and quick to finish, I am almost there! Highly recommended 🙌 thank you Michelle 🫶

To myself- Welp I need to go yarn shopping tonight so I can make this
If you think you have enough yarn, you don't.
That's the number one rule in my household.

Alpaca is more expensive but redheart has one very similar is called Aran Fleck.

Hi i would love to make this sweater for 9-10 year old could you tell me what size hooks to use thanks
Hi, Im a beginner. For checking gauge for body, just crocheting dc with 4.5mm hook would enough?
What if we need to crochet a large size please give instructions

This may be a silly question but when counting stitches how many does the “v” stitch count as? 1, 2 or 3?
I would also like to know the answer to this question
Stupendo
Hi MJ . If I do not have this yarn what is a good substitute?
Beautiful!
Thank you!
