The whole point of Jayne being so scared of Reavers is to emphasize how terrifying they are. That the big, bad, strong, soldier-guy who isn't afraid of anything is afraid of the Reavers, so they must be really, really horrible.
its fun watching him become so invested so fast. like in the beginning of the first one he was talking about how skeptical he was and maybe he'd do the next episode and by the end of that one how excited he was.
My favorite moment in this episode is when they are hiding outside of the ship. There is no place for them in the whole Universe if it wasn't for Mal who decides to help them. That really got me. Helping others even if it is difficult...
Great reactions, thank you. According to IMDB, "The Alliance's full title is the 'Anglo-Sino Alliance' Joss Whedon intended for it to be the merger of USA and china, the last of the world's superpowers." Also, you can check but I believe Whedon intended for an Asian linguistic influence on the future Earth, with the cowboy theme I feel like it's a "East-meets-West" thing.
Summer Glau was my first TV crush, i saw her once, she smiled and said hello at a convention. i was sort of stuttering and getting my words messed up. she smiled and hugged me. i told her it was one thing i could tell my friends that they would never believe me
It's such a intense sensation. I can see how girls got high on that alone and became screaming beatles fans. I referenced the beatles being swarmed because it's still well known. Boys hit the mosh pits. Just the stereotypes, I couldn't think of more current pop culture examples. 😁
Love these videos on Firefly. I have been deep into this world, but now it was some time since the last re-watch. Have seen the series more than ten times. Refreshing to see it through your eyes again. Love it. Very interesting comments. I wish these videos were unedited, the full length of the show’s episodes. 👌🙏🥰
Everyone holds out hope another couple of seasons materialize from the either. Interestingly, most of the cast, although several are mega stars now, have stated interest in continuing the show.
@@enlightendbel i think its possible from a writing standpoint set it years later the chaos from the movie has made it easier for mal and the crew to be left alone, maybe with zoe having been pregnant at the end to tie in her and wash's conversation in the series and maybe kaylee and the doc having kids to show the ages of the crew. there are so many ways to make it make sense why the crew is so much older.
@@vyseling9575 There's comics to go on that show what happens years after the movie. Just like with Buffy the material is there we just need someone with enough money to make it a thing, but I'm not holding my breath. Hopefully media synthesis AI will get sufficient enough in my lifetime to use those as blueprints to make more.
Has anyone mentioned the Firefly cast all appeared in episodes of "Castle" ? And, some of the asian-esque language, lots of taglines, etc. show up too. Castle even wears his Space Cowboy costume on Halloween. Gotta love a good cross-over.
You often have this with "groups" of actors that appear in the same shows. Some make it big and they stay friends and get others roles. With Firefly, half the cast made it pretty big, the others have regular guest appearances and support roles in the series people like Nathan do.
What you said about Inara around 1:20 Very interesting that you note that. Another reviewer watching it made a good observation that she really is like that with just about everyone in one way or another (other than Jayne), and that it must be natural due to her Companion training. To whomever she's talking to, she is interested, thoughtful, encouraging, insightful, and so well-spoken and polite--not to mention at all times the living embodiment of elegance and gracefulness.
Something I really enjoyed about this show was that we got to see them screw with each other...well mostly Simon thus far, haha...like Mal telling him Kaylee's dead and then laughing with the rest of the crew about it, and here with the suit. Just funny. Like that can be kinda serious at times, but funny, and not stupid type humor. Good show. I felt the same when watching...sad that only 14 eps! FYI - it's worth finding the clip of Alan Tudyk just going and going during that scene where he's talking about his wife, it's like a blooper take thing, it's funny. :)
Did you notice the Two By Two Hands of Blue at the end of the last one? I see a lot of kids dressed like them at comic con's. Very economic choice too. ;-)
Really enjoying the reaction. I've been a fan since forever. I am really liking pausing and looking at what's on the shelf. Based on what I see, we would be fast friends and have a fantastic chat over a beer :D
I love, love, love this series. I was soooooo angry that it was cancelled, still angry. They cancel good shows like this, and put on more crap “reality” and garbage TV.
My husband told me something that made a lot of sense. Reality shows are the least expensive to make. So even if they don't have as big a viewership, they are more profitable. It's not about quality television, it's about the almighty dollar. 😣
Spoilers for the movie Serenity. You have been warned. Theory, maybe the drug that made the people go crazy and become Reavers is in there blood and can effect a small amount of people when they get like bitten or something. I dunno I always felt the psychosis explanation for how new Reavers come around was a little meh.
So yu may have noticed this episode was written and directed by Tim Minear, who now works on American Horror Story. I think this episode was more like an AHS episode, a kind of beginning of some the ideas and techniques for that show.
I don't think the Commander was corrupt. He is an honest cop - but he is new to the outer regions, and his idea of Reavers is pretty much the same as Simon's in the pilot episode - campfire stories. Given that Serenity crew came off rather shady from the beginning (they had this illegally salvaged cargo, at least), it is quite understandable that he thinks they are responsible, rather than a boogeyman. He admits his mistake after seeing hard evidence, and he even takes Mal's advice, destroying the derelict ship. But it doesn't change the fact that the cargo is a property of the government now. He even bends the rules somewhat by allowing Serenity to go. So, a reasonable guy, a bit out of his depth, but willing and capable of learning.
about the Chinese influence. As Whedon says it. When Earth was used up and left, there were two super powers left. Merica and China. they essentially merged over time and everyone basically takes influence from both cultures. Also fun fact: Whedon was planning on having Spike from Buffy show up and connect the universes.
What got me about this episode is that the Alliance are supposed to be the centre of technology and yadda yadda, and their marines are cutting about with L85A1's. I almost feel sorry for them.
You missed your chance at an old joke. "...that time I paid off a cop in Tijuana. That never happened. " should have been followed by "It was in Mexicali."
The whole point of Jayne being so scared of Reavers is to emphasize how terrifying they are. That the big, bad, strong, soldier-guy who isn't afraid of anything is afraid of the Reavers, so they must be really, really horrible.
Yeah, it's the Worf effect.

Jane is the yard stick by which we as the audience should be scared. Jane is terrified of Revers and so should we.

Always looking forward to another Firefly reaction. Glad you can see the potential character story arcs already beginning.

Haha I like how it says “season 1” before the episode number as if they had to specify. 😂 still sad about that one.
Everyone holds out hope another couple of seasons materialize from the either.

enlightendbel that’s what I’ve heard! I would love more seasons, this show honestly made me so happy.

To get how the Reavers work, you have to watch the movie :)
The show never got time to explain.
Ambush to lay in wait. Bushwacked to be attacked by someone laying in wait.

The list of open story arcs for each of the characters grows.

There are not enough of firefly reactions are there, and I really like yours, keep it up!
Skipped my favorite line from this episode “Losing side maybe still not convinced it was the wrong one.”
you might want to watch "Passion of the Nerd"s deep dives into the philosophy and craft of Firefly.
Did you notice the Two By Two Hands of Blue at the end of the last one? I see a lot of kids dressed like them at comic con's. Very economic choice too. ;-)
That is actually supposed to be an IT reference. I had to have it pointed out to me.
Note the uniforms the Alliance troops are wearing . They should look familiar if you have seen Starship Troopers .
Firefly flying over the wild horses is what hooked me when they were promoting the show, plus Joss Whedon's name.
Man I've gotta bust out my DVDs and rewatch this series
3:55 Because Thanos; that would be an awesome crossover, the Firefly crew running into the guardian’s of the galaxy!
I like how you did the volume for the show and for you, I hate it when videos are quite and comments are loud..
This show needs a reboot
Uh, UH!...not a reboot, a restart. Keep the same cast and production....no FOX involvement.
Really enjoying the reaction. I've been a fan since forever. I am really liking pausing and looking at what's on the shelf. Based on what I see, we would be fast friends and have a fantastic chat over a beer :D
Bushwacked is one of the two episodes I usually skip in the season. Still one of my favorite shows.

The dumbing down of the US, reality TV.

Is the ball possibly from Dark Star? The alien they have aboard ship.

I think Jayne's scared because he's not in denial.
Make sure when you're done the episodes to make time to see the movie, maybe in pieces
How reavers work is shown in the movie
Play Firefly the Game!
Zoic studios did the visuals....same folk as are responsible for Battlestar Galactica.

I guess sounding like you're flirting all the time is an occupational hazard for Companions. :)
Probably my least-favorite episode, but still a good one.
"Probably cause Thanos showed up" lol
I think this just ends in mid-stream.? It was getting good though
You missed your chance at an old joke. "...that time I paid off a cop in Tijuana. That never happened. " should have been followed by "It was in Mexicali."
This show is overrated........2 episodes later-I want to binge
This is my least favorite episode. It's not bad per se, but I'm not a big fan of horror/spooky stuff. Thankfully this is about as spooky as it gets.
I hate Reivers episodes. Bad as Weeping Angels.
don't know what bushwhacked means ?
Ambush to lay in wait to attack.
Bushwhacked to be attacked by someone laying wait.
You lay in a bush, and when somebody goes by - you whack them.
