Kain is pretty crap in FF4. He got better in After Years atleast. The way he insults Edge all the time considering his traitor schemes of being a puppet, i hated the character in FF4 alot. In After Years he atleast is practical so he is alright in that one. But Edge rules!

He also stupidly gave his weakness “The frozen winds of hell’s ninth circle could not penetrate this cloak of flame I wear”, like no shit dude cause using Ice while you’re not showing your skinny legs fucking heals you.
He has a fun mechanic IMO. Hit him when the cape is open. Heal when it's closed. If you hit him with shiva he casts blizzara on himself. And best of all: if you cast fire on him healing him for about 400 he casts raise on your entire party. Good way to recover from an inferno.
Edge's steal makes him close his cloak. He becomes immune to all elements but doesn't cast Inferno. It's a good tactic if you prefer a defensive strategy.

He maintains his decency in Opera Omnia, Edge even returns the favor of healing him before they have a scrap and he holds a BIG respect for Neon......fitting.
Keep in mind the reason you never saw the depth in battle for the original US release was because they thought the game was too hard for American audiences. The version we got in America back in 92 was called "Final Fantasy 4 Easytype" in Japan.
The reason why we got Edge playable instead of Golbez in the original Final Fantasy IV is because people were fascinated with ninjas in video games back in the day so Fusoya became the last playable character instead of Golbez. Unfortunately, remakes follow this.

If Lugae screwed up Edge's parents, then how did they look like their normal selves when he first saw them there? Couldn't they have continued to maintain their appearances if they wanted to?
They mentioned something about madness. I'm gonna guess that Lugae put in some kind of condition that not only makes them lose grip on their sanity, but also transforms them into their real, monstrous forms.

I feel like I did something wrong. 2 turns into the battle he used inferno and one shot my team except cecil. after that I played catch up trying to revive people but I could only effectively keep cecil and beat him almost solo with cecil. my team was lvl 38-41 too which is way weaker than in the video...
I know this comment is a year old, but I feel like answering it anyway. Edge using "Steal" on Rubicante will cause him to close his cloak. Inferno will only cast while his cloak is open. Levels don't matter as much as strategy does, and the easiest strategy is just to prevent Inferno from happening.
This version was made much harder than the original SNES and GBA versions. IIRC Inferno still dealt 2000+ damage in the originals, but at only one characters, where in this game, Inferno was buffed to deal similar damag to the entire party instead. And with Edge and Rydia's piss poor HP, it didn't take long for him to take your team out.
NeoArashi, this is probably based of FF 4 Hard Type, originally released on the SFC in Japan, westerners got FF 4 Easy Type. The PS1 version was the first release of Hard Type in the west, this one looks to also be based off of that same version, perhaps even the PSP version is also based off FF 4 Hard Type.
Is there a way to make 'jump' Kain's first command? With no cursor memory I am constantly cycling down through the battle menus..it sucks!! Oh and you still have to cast float on every level of the sylvan cave....no...that's not annoying at all..
Can you still beat edges parents by being passive and letting them come to there senses before they kill themselves in this version? Or do they force you to fight them.
I dont get what happened to square enix in terms of voice acting, FF12 and this had amazing voice acting...then FF13 came out and it was like it had regressed (not as bad as ff10 but not as good)

My strategy- let edge die. He's worthless anyway. Make Kain the sole attacker. Then everyone else defends and heals. Try to revive edge toward the end of the fight
FF4 DS is a mixed bag of difficulty lol. Some bosses are not a big deal while others like the final battle being as difficult (or even more difficult) than the OG version.
Just want to remind everyone that Edge is pushing 30, Kain is the only other party member that can legally buy booze, and both the girls are underaged. You're welcome.
