Koi No Yokan is a underrated masterpiece. It sounds so modern, so fresh until this day. Ty Steph, Ty Deftones. It is a gift to overcome this situation together. I really feel the company. Hope he play some from Deftones Self Titled, another beautiful underrated masterpiece, my favorite album
Not "underrated" at all, it has a 86/100 score at meracritic based on 18 reviews, and also recieved the "Album of the Year" at the Revolver Golden Gods Award Show.
@@fredrikolsson3730 All deftones records are amazing. But you see ... Gore has excellent scores, he was in excellent positions when came out, but the truth is: by the fans, is underrated. Many of they are continually claiming that they must sound the same as 20 years ago. And KNY presented a very fresh sound, a new energy, a resounding change, just like Gore in 2016 and just like Deftones ST in 2003, that album is BEAUTIFUL, and so underrated...
@@fredrikolsson3730 What 18 people say about the album does not influence anything, especially the millions of people who have followed them for two decades. All the records were well positioned when they came out, because they are the fucking deftones. I mean undervalued by people who do not understand that changes are not always in your favor. For me they are records that needed and deserved more attention.
The way he weaves a song as a spider weaves his traps out of silk. He's not a soloist or a showoff. He's a rock-solid player who created feeling, much like Keith Richards or Kevin Shields.
Those videos make me realise how simple - almost minimalist - are Steph Capenter's guitars in the Deftones. I mean, any real guitarist can play those songs. Though, the songs sound great and unique. It's all about songwriting, and the band dynamic.
i was watching a video about deftones , don t know if it is truth , but they put a statement , like being from stephen , and he was answering a question exactly about this , about his minimalistic playing , he said that abe is a good but not an expert Drummer , that he doenst pratce double kick in drums and more advanced stuff , he said that he would love to write more advanced riffs for the band , like going more for the trash metal side , but abe would not keep up
I start my day here in Malaysia at 7 am. Feed my newborn daughter with her bottled milk. Watch Stephen playing this modern classic. It's going to be a good day for me and my daughter
I’m really liking these. Hoping these stay as a Friday norm, at least for a little while. And yeah, I would really love to see Abe jamming out on his set. That would be just awesome
I love the way this song breaks into the verse changes

Stephen is one of the most inspiring guitarrists to me. Is just the simplicity, the beauty, the perfect tone, just the line for every song. Amazing guy.
This may be obvious, but watching you play is incredibly helpful for me. I am learning Deftones songs on my guitar, and I can find tabs usually, but seeing the technique is extremely valuable to learning. Thanks so much Stef!
I have followed these tunes for most of my life and i'm 43 now born on June 20th, the same birthday as Chino. To see those cords being played makes me see all the reactions i've made at shows slamming into all the beautiful people from all over i've met along the way through the journey. much love and respect to the whole Deftones band and RIP Chi
After watching all of these playthroughs, can I just say how impressed I am by his economy of movement? I know Deftones music isn't the most complex stuff in the world, but his precision and the lack of anything he doesn't need to do is mindblowing to me.
Loving these play throughs. My favorite band of all time. People want to say simple or whatever. Bottom line is their shit is tight as eff. Cant really be touched. And if you actually listen close enough there is a lot more than simple going on. Don’t focus on what any one person is playing. Focus on the machine at work. Tight. Another funny thing...over the years I have had read so many call outs on self titled and Saturday Night Wrist. Both beautiful records. I had the privilege of them playing Minerva live about 50 feet from my face when that record launched. I challenge you to hear a more beautiful sound. So simple. SMH!
I pay guitar in a Deftones cover band and this song is so fun to play. It’s such an awesome riff that Steph wrote. It’s hot this cool off time power chord single string picking pattern thingy that just makes the coolest eerie dark toned sound and really sets the mood and gives the listener in a certain vibe feeling. Just another Deftones song that the listener can feel instead of just hear.
It's so hard to pick a favorite or best for me. I first heard deftones when i was 14 or 15 and I'm about to double that and they've all been my favorites and one particular time or another. Adrenaline and White Pony were my favorites for-e-ver. I was sick and traveling and lost touch with music really altogether and my bff of 2 decades puts Koi in my car's xd player lol but didn't tell me and when i turned the key and started to get onto the highway i got chills and started damn sobbing like can't breathe crying lol bc i had not heard how progressive and experimental they had become. It's one of the most beautiful pieces of art I've ever and will ever experience. I fkng LOVE LOVE deftones. They didn't fall to the man and sell out like Korn and limp bizkit and so on. Deftones are the only band i have ever fallen for upon just an initial reaction and love every single aspect of...and don't ever get tired of them. R.I.P. Chi Cheng
I really would love to witness the creative process that lead to this kinda of "end result". Who wrote the first chords? Who build around who? Did the producing changed the initial music until the final stage of recording? How lucky are we to have the exact players....playing together. Without any of them it would be 'it'.
i went thru a similar thing and i'm truly ashamed to say i couldn't wrap my head around White Pony when it came out and i kinda checked out on them for a long time. i still wanted it hard and fast. i was a teenager. now i look back and can truly appreciate how dope the later albums were. Koi No Yokan is incredible
Just let him do the whole discography at this point
+ lessons on how each is played 🤣
😏
Facts lol
lol... we can only hope
100%
I'm loving these playthorughs! I'd love to see Abe and Sergio too
Bella Daniè
Tra l’altro mi ricordo che sto riff ti faceva cagare insieme a quello di Swerve City ahahahah

Or even chino!
Koi No Yokan is such an incredible album
There aren't many that were not incredible.

@@andrewphippsphillips1455 Agreed. I could listen to the entire catalogue back to back.

Sergio too
Look forward to check once it comes out. The best drummer inthe game
"When girls telephone boys" has one of the most chaotic, tense and yet beautiful sequence of chords i've heard! Please do this one!

That's when Steph actually used to play guitar. He's a shadow of his former self, now.

They just make it all work so well, although Steph does seem to be more of the rhythm guitarist on 80% of the songs now.

Nothing out of place or unnecessary. Pure mastery in riffing construction.
Indeed. No unnecessary ego wankery.
Except for that 8th string. I didn't see much utilization of that. All in all, Steph really is a boss riff master.
From now on, there should be a listening party virtual or otherwise every time Deftones releases a new video.
LOL
I wish these series never end.
Please do entire Koi No Yokan or Self-Titled
Tempest for sure or Bloody Cape
Please don’t stop these! The video hasn’t even premiered but I want more already 🔥🔥🔥

Deftones saved my live in my darkest time. God bless you all and your familys!
